Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

This scene was just intense! Great directing, great acting.

I am such a huge fan of Lee Sun Gyun! ❤️️

His reactions here were just amazing: the bewilderment, shock, confusion, anger, regret, devastation.. just wow.

Can’t wait for the next eps!

“His reactions here were just amazing: the bewilderment, shock, confusion, anger, regret, devastation.. just wow.”

you have perfectly analyzed his expressions and put in words so well…. all those reactions were so well acted by him that we could feel each n every of it with him.
i am eagerly looking forward to next episode what n how he will make his ownself understand why he reacted that way ?

Yes! How will he treat Ji-an moving forward? I’m also looking forward to how the show will determine what their relationship will be, now that Ji-an has confessed – which is still questionable in it’s authenticity since she saw the spy before acting out. Will she tell Dong-hoon she was just acting? Aaah, I can’t wait!

      2
      1

Yes absolutely. the next morning in the office is going to be very awkward.
I still feel JA was confessing her own true feelings but when she will be confronted she will mask it as an act to save him from getting caught.

and yes their dynamic going forward will have a difficult road ahead to get back to what it was normal until its clarified without any preconceived notion from either.

I thought I’d hate Yura too, and was confused as to what her role is. But like LollyPip mentioned in her recap, she has more layers as a character than it seemed at first. This scene was particularly surprising for the profoundness in her speech

And the brothers’ relationship is really admirable. I wonder whether there was something in the past that made them as close as they are, the way they prioritize each other even over their wives. I’m quite partial to Ki-hoon. Lol At first I even thought the monk was a 4th brother but it seems, like the other neighborhood ahjussis, they just regard themselves as extended family

This was soooo satisfying to watch! It was kinda sexy seeing him all angry and physical 😍

I really want him to stand up for himself more.

My Ahjussi is just hitting it out of the ballpark for me. Every scene with Ji-an and her grandma are just 💔

Then add Dong-hoon and its just 💗

That feeling when you’re watching an amazing drama and you have to decide whether to play the next episode or go to sleep cos its 4am and you still have work tomorrow. It’s almost physically painful not to! 😫

Playing catch-up with My Ahjussi and it is amazing! Just finished Ep 4 and I don’t know how much more I can love Lee Sun Kyun 😍 And I am so impressed with IU – she portrays Ji An with such fearless desperation, but with clever resourcefulness. From the first episode this drama has felt so organic that I feel I, as a viewer was dropped in the middle of the lives of characters actually living.

Now I’m thinking whether I should have kept my original plan of binge watching it when it ends. But the PD + LSK combo was just too much to resist!

Glad you are loving this drama as much we all are. I to started it with much apprehension but now happy that i did.
it gets better by each episode.. and everything is just perfect abt this drama. And you said so right we feel as if we are middle of their lives and seeing them living that way.

    1
    1

Exactly. I think it’s amazing directing! It’s played to great effect by the fact that the relationships between the characters are not shown – like Ji An and the kid; rather they’re mentioned in passing in their dialogue, not shown in flashbacks so it really does feel like these characters have been living their lives and we’re dropped in the middle and we’re learning their background stories are they are mentioned by the characters themselves.

This drama is my crack right now ♥

I’m loving Na PD’s Little Cabin in the Woods: it’s the show where his (and his crews’) masterful editing skills are showcased in all it’s glory.

The theme of happiness in minimalism is quite thought-provoking. I would love to be able to go off the grid once in a while like this! Watching the show though, makes me feel like I’m living vicariously through the 2 subjects’ experience ‘cos it’s just shot so gorgeously and the heightened sounds of nature are amazing! Plus I’ve always admired the choices of background music in all his shows 👍❤

I really want to check this out. I’m super intrigued by the premise and it looks beautiful. Plus Na PD.

Oh it is! I’m lucky our cable channel is showing it.

It’s very different from Na PD’s other shows ‘cos it’s very documentary style, complete with a narrator and all

I was looking for a “light” drama to pass the time ‘cos I didn’t feel like starting anything that would engage my mind and heart so much, so I chose Chief Kim since I figured that the office and corporate premise would fit the bill. Plus, it had good reviews, so I thought it would still be very enjoyable.

Boy am I glad to be so wrong! This was such a funny and thoroughly enjoyable show full of heart and fist-pump moments. Despite the premise, there was never an episode I felt bored, and it’s a 20-ep show too!

Namgoong Min as always, plays wacky to a tee, and I have a newfound crush on Jun-ho cos he was just so hot being the snarky, gluttonous anti-hero. But it was Dong-ha as Myeong-suk who was the most memorable one for me: I lived for his facial reactions. 😂 And his journey from spoilt brat to an empathetic, mature person was so heartwarming! Shout-out too to Chief Kim and Mr Choo’s relationship. The female lead was OK but I loved Ga-eun more: she was just so passionate in whatever she was doing, it was fun to watch her. I was also shocked to see Je-hee as Gwang-sook! Lol

Thank you show! ❤️️

It really is a gem, I’ve added it to my fave list. ♥

I also love the execution of their plans – the drama did a good job in making it all clear so they never got convoluted and the viewer can follow along. They all seemed like bad-ass ingenious plans!

      1
      1

And the comedy was always upbeat and ingenious too! When Yul joined Chief Kim’s side and they strode into the company’s reception ready to take down corruption, JUST WOW! *slow claps*

            0

Oh, that was my problem before too! Lucky the beanies here are so helpful ^^

Write your post on a Word document or Notepad and when you’re done, just copy and paste it here – I use the mouse right click + paste option instead of the shortcut Ctrl + V cos that sometimes cuts the characters.

Just make sure you’re done ‘cos when you edit it here before clicking “POST” it will automatically get cut again

Namgoong Min had mad chemistry with all his male co-actors in this show lol, it really made the show.
And I was laughing so hard when he saluted the Danish flag in the first ep and said what sounded like “hygge” LOL

After having watched a few of Song Kang Ho’s films, I get it now. He BECOMES the character, not just an actor playing it. Amazing. 😲

This was a great movie. Ryu Jun Yeol was also ❤

It inspired me to read about the true events it was based on

I finally got around to finishing Because This Life and while I enjoyed it overall, I was disappointed with the ending. I’m gonna rant a little, so please excuse me. (Spoilers ahead)

I mean this show had my heart for the first half – I was so in love with it and I had the butterflies and all! But as the episodes wore on I found myself losing it. I thought it shined the most when the family was involved, especially Jiho’s mom but was disappointed that that was all there was. If the concept of marriage was gonna be the overall theme, the drama should have anchored it more on the couple’s parents to drive the point home better, not leave it on the last ep.

Also after the wedding I feel Se Hee and Jiho didn’t even spend that much time together to show how they’d fall in love. It took too long with the other stories and then before I knew it, I was already at Ep 14 and the separation was starting before their relationship even began. Like already? I wanted to be sad and cry for that separation, but there were hardly any moments of the 2 for me to be too sad about. And mostly I didn’t even understand the need for it. I stopped understanding Jiho too. Why did you have to do it? Was she disillusioned by the idea of marriage itself? Fine, she wanted love to be the priority. Then she wanted to leave also because she felt Se Hee is still not opening up to her. But then she found out how Se Hee felt and still left. Then what? Se Hee too didn’t tell her how he felt saying that she’ll keep it in her heart and I’m like, yes, exactly, so? And then she comes back just like that saying that she has realized stuff and I was like how did you come to that realization woman? I was echoing Se Hee’s dialogue in my head: I sold my apartment for you and you come waltzing in just like that?!

If at the beginning the two were all about openly communicating their thoughts, I couldn’t understand why they simply couldn’t do the same this time. Also, if I thought at first that the dialogue was the best thing about the drama, this is where I felt it was lacking. I had to fill-in the meaning behind the actions cos the characters weren’t explaining it for me. Maybe it tried to be too profound it ended up becoming too vague?

I mean it was so good when it was good, I was on a high. But that ending is a bit lacking. Still though, I never thought Lee Min Ki my kind of handsome til now

The last 2 episodes definitely ruined it for me. It’s still one of my favourites, but the last 2 episodes left a bad taste in my mouth. Like you, I didn’t understand her reasons for leaving. I think it was some sort of super intellectual reason that went over my head. And thus I couldn’t enjoy their reunion.

    4
    1

Yeah, same. It was so great and then..urgh.

I was watching the last 2 eps with a frown because I was trying to make sense of it all. As in literally exhausting my brain cells trying to make meaning out of all the chaos cos I was trying so hard to save it. Like it couldn’t end in this mess… but alas 😟

      1
      0

I said something here sometime back but don’t know which thread. The fact that Ji ho had to leave is her character to do that, like her mean side kinda her nature. She left to hurt Se Hee just like when he told her that their marriage is a contract, then the next morning she denied him breakfast….Just my thoughts though….

    1
    1

Yeah, true it was kinda mean. Still though I was hoping for some sort of character growth. Or just for me to understand why.

Sometimes when you’re watching characters you need not agree with their choices but good writing would make you understand the why. Thats what I was hoping for

      2
      1

I think the writer wanted to make the characters look like real life characters. In real life, we don’t always make good choices, right? and the choices we make, people don’t always agree with it and infact even we that make the choice, we wonder why the heck did I do that??
And sometimes people don’t just have character growth, there are people that still behave the way they have been with no change at all (at least in a positive way).
Over all, I think this is the writers way of saying, hey viewers they can be real life characters….

        1
        0

Totally agree. I didn’t like the ending 😕

    1
    0

Yes To all your points lol. The dialogue that turned vague and tried to hard, the characters that suddenly stopped talking, the sudden lack of focus on what the show was supposed to be about, the poor execution..

Hi! I watched this film a few weeks back and yesss, it is indeed amazing *o* the story-line is good and I definitely got carried away by the emotional scenes /ah, tears again/

    1

Yes! The story and the acting were amazing! Was sobbing so bad when I finished ❤

It was a touching and inspiring movie, it deserves all the awards it got esp for Na Moon Hee. Lee Je Hoon was lovely too, and him speaking English was so extra ^^

I will never look at the greeting How Are You? the same way again. The court scenes were just 😱😭💗

      1
      1

I did not expect that sudden turn of events, tbh. I didn’t read the whole summary so I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I watched the trailer but had no clue they’ll bring those scenes. I’m glad they did. It brought awareness to people. I read about the issue with the Japanese right after watching the drama and it’s just… heartbreaking.

But yes, the movie deserves all the awards! Na Moon Hee plays her grandma roles so well ;A; she gets me all the time D: and Lee Je Hoon was fun to watch as well. He was convincing playing his role.

        1
        1

I was also surprised by the seriousness of the issue the movie was about. Totally didn’t see it coming.

Suddenly the seeming lightness in Na Moon Hee’s character’s personality and life at the beginning became deeper and took on a different meaning. But it was done so well and it didn’t feel jarring.

Oh my, Woohoo Waikiki is something else! 😂 Bumped it up my to-watch-list ‘cos of all the pics and gifs shared on the beanies’ walls – just 2 episode in and I’m in love with it already 😍

I couldn’t believe Joon-ki is the hyung! And I was literally crying with laughter with Dong-gu’s run around the park, I had to pause it for a while to calm down. It’s wacky and slapstick, but I don’t find it exaggeratingly so nor does the humor feel forced cos the boys seem so natural and are just throwing all of themselves into their characters. I hope it stays this way through-out.

Kinda refreshing to watch a show where you just love the characters and not think too much of the plots and what things mean and just go along for the ride. I don’t think I’ve laughed this much for a drama before, this may go into my all-time fave list!

bring bogum as his brother 😛 dying in the fire.. and hyeri running to cover the news only to run into her sunabe gong hyo jin .. who is weepy because her ex might again be hallucinating about another boy 😛

ofcourse, in the background we have a captain looking on while on his way to meet the noona who would feed him and makes a call to his crush saying he has started witnessing deaths of other people in dreams too..

… and while the news airs.. we see a prison and a man under the blanket passing off his witty remarks on how they should have called ajumma first if its an arson case…cue to ajumma eating a pastry and finding a man in air force uniform smiling… while a really weird man in monkey fur coat walking up to the airforce guy and smacking him to not hate on the boyfriend of the girl he did not confess to…

the monkey man recalls his army friends and makes a call to Uruk so that humans can take care of it…
Uruk guy calls the fire station … finally lee kwang so and yumi run to the fire site.. only to find that the tenant above already has the situation under control.. and he reminds both fire fighters how inefficient they are while petting his cat.. but then a doctor team arrives.. and then everyone is fighting who gets to call this emergency their own – reporters? doctors? police? prosecutors? fire fighters? or team hodong

and if you were wondering what happened to the man in the burning room.. oh that!.. well.. one of Na PD’s helicam caught all of this and transported him to africa..

and song hye kyo read this script while director was trying to convince big star joonki for a cameo.. and well everything fell through.. leaving us with in sung with the firefighters.. because well he was out on a jog .. and PD just made him come down to office

        **ah!.. garbage spewing mode on*******

Finally got to catch Along With the Gods – The Two Worlds, and it was definitely a fun watch with a lot of heart. Great effects and fight scenes, plus the fantasy world was built so well that even if you land smack in the middle of everything, it still all made sense. The acting is of course, top-notch. I haven’t seen much of Cha Tae Hyun’s works, but now I understand how he is such a relatable “everyday-man” that you just can’t help rooting for. And although I’ve known him in more comedic roles he can so do drama to great effect too. I don’t think I need to say how awesome the other veteran cast were ❤️️ I’m glad though that there are 2 more sequels coming out so yey!

Although, I don’t know if it’s because I’m so used to dramas but sometimes Korean movies give me a feeling of constraint in the character/plot developments: like it feels rushed sometimes, obviously with the time constraint. If this was a drama in the hands of very a very capable writer and director with time to flesh out the very fascinating characters it has – man I would so love to see it!

Currently on Ep 6 of Because This Is and I’m in loooove! 😍😍😍 It took me until Ep 5 to go from liking to loving this and I get it now! ❤️️❤️️❤️️

The dialogue is amazing! They describe so well the moments and feelings in the simplest, clearest, most heartfelt way that makes an impact every time. I also love how the drama is showing how the characters (and even ME, the viewer) cannot remain as undetached as they expected to when going into the marriage.

I can’t wait for both feelings to start! I mean who can blame Ji Ho for falling first when Se Hee keeps doing swoony stuff. Everytime he says “Uri” I get as giddy as she does.

Picked up Hwayugi this weekend and just finished Ep 9. I’m really enjoying it BUT, I’m watching it with a sort of detached enjoyment. Idk, I just can’t get emotionally invested in the characters and the OTP. I love the main actors, but I feel Cha Seung Won is over-acting, like the humor feels forced. I’ve seen him do the same type of humor in Greatest Love, which is also Hong sisters so maybe it’s because it’s nothing new that I don’t find it as funny? And I find Oh Yeon Seo’s character a little dull cos I’ve seen her play brighter, more memorable characters to great effect (like in Come Back Ajhussi)

What I’m enjoying though is the whole fantasy/mythology plot which I find solid and interesting, the side characters (Frosty and the Summer Fairy 😍) and mostly Lee Seung Gi. I love him and have always found him a good-looking, good-natured guy but I have never really found him HOT until now. Cheeky and manly and sexy 🔥 🔥 🔥

Same, girl. Detached watching here too. I’m actually enjoying Lee Seung Gi in Master in the House more.
