Beanie level: Errand boy

With so many samples I actually feel like a candy girl of k-dramaland 😅

Don’t all male K-actors have monolid eyes? Or 90% of them? Anyway, I just found the reason why I like some faces more than others HA! I have a thing for monolid eyes! What a revelation after 12 years of watching k-dramas 😄 How did I realise this just now? Gong Yoo, Park Seo Joon, Nam Joo Hyuk – faces that appealed to me the moment I saw them, even before I saw them acting. Now it makes sense.

I agree. I definitely find the actors with monolids more attractive. I think the double eyelids tend to detract from their natural looks.

    3

Yep. Agree. Then there’s sweet Yibo with half and half.

November 2019 – Nam Joo Hyuk and Ha Ji Min for High Cut special edition for Blue Dragon Film Awards previous year’s award recipients.

I can’t wait to watch their next film Josee (should be released in 2020) to see if their chemistry is still so captivating and strong as in Dazzling.

Watching Nam Joo Hyuk as two completely different characters in a span of two weeks made me appreciate his acting and talent. I won’t deny I thought he was terrible in β€œThe Bride of the Water God” (I dropped it after two episodes but I think his acting was the least of BOFWG problems). And I heard he was mediocre prior his performance in WFKBJ. I always thought he was just a pretty face, more a model than an actor but I think I have to eat my own words now. While he made me giddy as a boyfriend of the year in WFKBJ with his caring but somehow naughty personality (and his 8 pack), his emotional and touching performance in Dazzling moved me more. I don’t know how he conveyed so much sadness and vulnerability in his eyes but my whole body and soul ached for him and Ha Ji Min. I guess I’m growing really old if I enjoyed Dazzling more than WFKBJ, right?

It would be hard to choose between WLFKBJ and Dazzling. Both are favorites of mine, too!

Anybody still remember the struggle with watching k-dramas back in 2000s? 🤣🤣🤣

Before Netflix, Hulu, Viu, and Viki there were those shady places where you weren’t sure what you downloaded was the real deal HA 😂 I was going through my old stuff and found my beloved Coffee Prince CDs. So how many people can say they were obsessed with CP at this level? 😅

23
4

I didn’t burn drama CDs, I do remember going through hoops and loops to watch them. Back in the day, fansubs had their own rules how to watch the dramas with their subs and I was forced to learn and adapt to all of them!!! I still have the early dramas saved on my hard drives. They are a reminder of a time i worked so hard just to watch them!

    5
    1

Exactly! Finding the subs that fit with the video was tiring! I felt victorious just to have been able to find the right thing. Maybe that’s why we didn’t skip or drop dramas back then because of all the effort we put into finding subbed k-dramas.

      3
      1

Now that I think about it, you are right!! I barely ff and drop dramas back then! Even my most despised dramas, I finished them. The time and effort I put in just to watch those hated dramas definitely factored to finishing it

I remember it well! and still have tons of shows sitting around in piles of DVDs. And don’t forget all the downloading of OSTs, I spent hours on those 😁 That’s actually a very happy memory.

The Light In Your Eyes 11-12

Thank you, TLIYE cast and crew, for making this beautiful drama. The drama started as another time travelling rom-com but turned into a poignant human story. I was crying and sobbing during the entire episode 12. My eyes got so swollen that my employees thought something terrible happened to me. I felt so deeply for the characters I came to love that saying goodbyes to them was very painful. I hope everyone of them found peace in the end… Joon Ha and Hye Ja reuniting in the heaven while Hye Ja’s son and his wife mending their marriage. The time we’ve been given is too precious to waste.

Also who would have thought Nam Joo Hyuk and Ha Ji Min would make such a heartwarming couple despite their limited scenes together?

Is it just me or these two pretty much look identical? Before I watched their dramas I thought they were the same person as even their heights are the same.

Who is the one that’s not Nam Joo-hyuk?

    1
    1

His name’s Anh Hyo Seop, he was great as a second lead in 30 but 17, but I heard his first turn as a leading man in Abyss was catastrophic. But probably not (just) because of him.

Sometimes I see a photo of either of them and I’m still confused who’s who (though Nam Joo Hyuk is bit model-like prettier).

      1
      2

Hmmm. I think Ahn Hyo Seop is more pretty (by just a tiny bit). They do look similar depending on the photo.

        1
        0

This is the other thing that is quite similar between the two of them: they’ve both been great in one drama and pretty mediocre in the other ones I’ve seen them in

        2
        0

They could totally play brothers. I’m actually not sure who’s who in the pictures you posted 🙈 Upper left is AHS. Bottom right is NJH. But the other two???

The Light In Your Eyes Episode 10

I’m literally speechless.

The Light In Your Eyes – Episode 3

How can a single scene make me weep like a baby and then laugh crazily in a span of a few seconds? This is the show I’ve been waiting for. This show is all heart and more.

They managed to put together a phenomenal cast. I won’t be repeating what others said about Kim Hye Ja, the lady knows her business well. It’s a pleasure to watch someone so soulful, talented, and passionate onscreen. The supporting cast consists of all my favourite actors, especially Son Ho Joon is a scene stealer. I’ve loved him since Go Back Couple and he’s proving that you don’t have to to a leading man all the time for people to love you. Also I’m a sucker for dad/daughter loving relationship and I suspect how the whole situation will play out in the end and it makes my heart ache.

The only thing I’m a little worried about is how are they going to make a love story between Hye Ja and Joon Ha progress without it being icky.

Apparently oppa can do no wrong. I can’t wait to watch the film myself to see why it causes such a controversy.

Also I miss his stupid charming grin and his ridiculously endearing eye smile.

Thank you, Beanies, for the recommendation for 2019 dramas. In the end I decided to watch something completely different than you all recommended.

I finally decided to watch The Light In Your Eyes and I just finished the first episode. I’m loving it so far and I hope I chose wisely since I only have time to watch 2 dramas per month.

Ha Ji Min must have the best voice among female actresses, the more I watch her the more I appreciate her acting and charisma (I loved her in Familiar Wife as well). Nam Joo Hyuk bored me to death in Bride Of the Water God, I found him extremely boring and wooden there. How is it possible that he’s so charming in TLIYE? I only watched the first episode and I think I’m already falling for him LOL. I guess he’s the kind of actor who needs the strong script and directing.

watch han ji min in dr. jekyl and mr. hyde and you will be asking when did she improve as an actress πŸ˜›

    1
    1

I did. I watched her in Hyde and Jekyl as well as in Rooftop Prince and I wasn’t impressed. I didn’t understand her charms back then. That’s why I was so surprised when I liked her so much in Familiar Wife, she was perfect in that drama.

OMG DID YOU SEE THE ONE WHERE HE CALLED HER A MACARON? I HAD TO STOP AND THINK FOR A MOMENT THEN REALIZED A MACARON PRACTICALLY LOOK LIKE LIPS CUZ OF THE TWO COOKIES SANWICHED TOGETHER AND HE’S “EATING HER TOO MUCH” AND OMG I’M DYING.
    Sorry for the caps lock.

Beanies, if I should watch just one 2019 drama, what would you pick for me? I’ve been on a k-drama hiatus for 10 months and now I’m hungry (or maybe thirsty) 🤫

I’ve not watched tons of kdramas this year but out of the ones I’ve seen my favorite has been Search WWW. A close contender is Secret Life of my Secretary.

You would love SECRET LIFE OF MY SECRETARY! Kim Young Kwang is just adorable in this role. You know how much I like him!

Kdrama : Be Melodramatic/Melo is my nature/Melo suits me (it is one show, it just has several titles).
Taiwanese drama: Yong Jiu Grocery store (I know you didn’t ask for it but it’s a gem, also better than many kdramas, do give it a try).

Perfume. I will pick Perfume for you, since it’s my favourite of 2019 💜😊.

My favorite so far is the hilarious Pegasus Market, which incidentally is short (only 12 hours), so you could almost sort-of cheat and also sneak in one of my also-funny runners-up:

    My Fellow Citizens
    Last Empress
    Hotel del Luna

Be Melodramatic although www:search query was good too in terms of the females’ characters, if you can handle gore and scary things I recommend hell is other people , perfume is good too .

Nok-Du being flirty 🙈🙈🙈
How can a man dressing as a woman trying to be manly be so cute? And funny 🤣

It’s clear he has no experience with dating or woman. Haha. He is lucky Dong Joo already like him. Lol

This scene described everything that’s wrong with dramas having a tsundere male lead 😂

    1
    0

Unlike most of you I’ve been suspecting Yool Moo being the boss for two weeks now. I’ve been commenting under the recaps that his Prince Charming persona is definitely a facade. So I wasn’t surprised I was proved right.

BUT what I definitely didn’t expect was how deliciously bloodthirsty the writer made him. He bored me with his charming smiles and meek demeanour but I was excited to see his crazy eyes and all. Ha, I guess I looked like Minister Heo when Yool Moo revealed his identity 😂

10
7

I would much more prefer proper character development for him than this shock factor we got

    7
    1

For me the shock factor worked. I knew he must’ve be hiding something because no one can be that good and perfect. It’s not like Yool Moo only became The boss and was scheming when the drama started airing. No, he already established that way before the show started. Him killing the young prince or the minister didn’t come out of nowhere for me. He might’ve been scheming to become a king since he was a child. So he’s been in the game for a very long time and the Chef facade was just to hide the true devil underneath.

      5
      1

They should make sense of his fond of Dong Jo. Does it sincere?if it’s not sincere, ha has no reason to hide NokDu’s identity, unless he already know he is a long lost prince! I don’t think he is completely evil. But we will see!

        5
        1

So, our 2nd male lead is another prince mad with lust for the throne. One who is ruthless, well organized, and with his own power base. Oh, and PATIENT.

So, why his interest in Dongju? A king newly crowned after a coup d’etat would be looking to marriage shore up his power base: Dongju’s family/clan are all dead, as far as we know. Hard to believe he is still following up on his arranged marriage?

I thought the actor did a fine job playing the rich dilettante chef feeding Aengdu meat and then the ruthless prince going for the throne.

          4
          0

One giveaway was that he was able to call out the soldiers to stop the minister from taking Nokdu and Dongju. Minister was shocked. So he obviously had some kind of power or powerful backer.

    1. You’re smart.
    2. DELICIOUS! My interest in the show was to be very honest waning a little, but it just shot up to hitherto unforseen levels.

    2
    0

I mean just look at his face in that first one! Gives you the chills.

i like that they did this with his character, and from the last episode still in love with Dong Joo despite the fact. So nothing really is inconsistent from what he’s been showing us aside from the evil prince thing

    1

I’m not affected by his confident smirk in the slightest.
