Jung Hae-in finds Love Next Door with Jung So-min

The promo train has taken off for tvN’s latest rom-com Love Next Door (previously Mom’s Friend’s Son), gathering our cast in stills from the first script reading led by our friends-to-lovers Jung-Jung pair, Jung Hae-in (D.P. 2) and Jung So-min (Alchemy of Souls).

Having lived in the same neighborhood of Hyereung-dong since their kindergarten days, Choi Seung-hyo (Jung Hae-in) and Bae Seok-ryu (Jung So-min) saw each other’s best and worst while growing up. And with their moms being friends, they were often pitted against each other as my parents are wont to do – comparing their child’s lacking ways with “my friend’s oh-so-perfect son/daughter.”

As adults, we meet Seung-hyo living a peaceful life, enjoying his successful career as an architect and company CEO. But that peace is soon disrupted when Cupid starts poking around, suddenly bringing Seok-ryu back to town – she’s been hoping for a life restart after encountering recent troubles.

In the second lead roles, fellow childhood friend Kim Ji-eun (Branding in Seongsu) plays the heroic paramedic Jung Mo-eum, who experiences her own neighborly ~love~ when Yoon Ji-on’s (My Lovely Liar) friendly journalist Kang Dan-ho moves in next door.

Filling out the streets of our rom-com’s Hyereung-dong world, the gruff Park Ji-young (The Matchmakers) and doting Jo Han-chul (Gyeongseong Creature) play Seok-ryu’s parents, alongside the charismatic Jang Young-nam (Captivating the King) and reserved Lee Seung-joon (Hierarchy) as Seung-hyo’s parents.

Supporting characters also include Jeon Suk-ho (Blood Free) playing Seung-hyo’s college sunbae and co-CEO, Mo-eum’s mom Kim Geum-soon (The Atypical Family), as well as Lee Seung-hyeop (Lovely Runner) in the role of Seok-ryu’s younger brother.

On the production side, directing for the rom-com is helmed by PD Yoo Je-won (Crash Course in Romance) in a second collaboration with writer Shin Ha-eun after Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. Premiering next month on August 17, tvN’s Love Next Door will be broadcasting on weekends following The Auditors.

Oh, I love the supporting cast especially both parents and Jeon Suk-ho. Can’t wait!

Would anyone know on which platform it will be shown?

I like both main actors and the supporting cast!

Not sure I will be interested in the second couple but I'm happy there won't be a love triangle.

Same! So relieved to be triangle-free. Also hopefully no trucks of doom, serial killers or abusively toxic parents.

I'm still stubbornly sulking about the loss of the evocative original title, even more because the new one is so insipid, but I like both the lead actors and the supporting cast looks fantastic. So many favorites!

Has Jung Hae-in ever been in a rom-com, either drama or movie?

There's a movie on Netflix called something like "Radio Romance," and he's in that. It's romcommy.

If that's Tune In for Love - I've seen it, and while it's got the rom, it's not com. It has a bittersweet/melo tone. I did enjoy it, especially the 90s nostalgia and the music.

Yes, that's it. That's probably the closest to a romcom that he's done, so yeah, I guess "Love Next Door With Mom's Friend's Son" will be his first real one.

No worries. I'll be referring to it as Mom's Friend's Son 😏 I refuse to accept lame titling.

He he as been in Pretty Noona who buys me Food/ Something in the Rain (with Son Ye-jin) which I think is excellent and One Spring Night that might be even better.

Yes - and although I'd have to disagree about SITR, which I hated with a burning passion shared by many beanies 😂, and enjoyed OSN, neither of those is a rom-com. Jung Hae-in was excellent in both. This looks like it really will bring the comedy element and I'm looking forward to it!

Not that I was zooming in or anything, but look at the salt-and-pepper on Jo Han-chul! Ah, it's a bear getting old. I may or may not be aging right with you, man.

I adore Jung So Min, but the fact that Jo Han Chul plays her father - This is icing on the cake.

I hope the script is as appealing as they are.

I'm actually really excited for this one! I love Jung "sadboi" Hae-in and Jung So-min, but it's even nicer to see Kim Ji-eun and Yoon Ji-on in something potentially *good* after the mess that was Seongsu and Liar.

“Mum’s friend’s son” was more Korean zeitgiesty as a title as it referenced the expression/alleged practice of torturing your kids by comparing them to your friend’s high achieving son if you were one of those mothers that KDs like to vilify.

Interesting take on the title/probable script.

But I must admit - all I know is that I cannot wait to see the incredible Jung So Min on my TV (thank you Netflix!) after two year absence.

Now give us a teaser! So excited for JSM's return to drama (it's been TWO whole years since Alchemy of Souls) after a movie and theater.

Jung So Min and Jung Hae In are both so very cute, I'm excited to see both of them together. Also love that there is no cursed love triangle and that the second leads have their own thing going. Amazing bonus of great sets of parent actors too, though imo Jang Young Nam is way too hot and young looking to play Jung Hae In's mom, but I love her so I look forward to seeing her anyway.

I loved crash course in romance, did not care for hometown cha cha at all, but hopefully somehow the director/writer combination will veer positive for this one given the fun premise and great lead and supporting cast.

JSM is my favoritest of all K-drama actresses and I am scheduling this into my iphone calendar right now.

Best of all (for me), I will be in South Korea when the drama is still airing and for at least ONE evening, our plans will revolve around watching real time/no subs. (It helps to know I will be able to re-watch on Netflix when we return😊)

My apologies for the future, but I will be doing my version of a fan-scream every time DB posts anything about this drama. 😎😊

I wasn't going to watch this because the writer was involved in The Drama That Shall Not Be Named #1 (you gotta do what you gotta do), and I'm the weirdo that doesn't like Jung So Min, but the premise is tempting me and it's so annoying 🤣.

How refreshing for Yoon Ji-on to have his own love line in two separate dramas. That's the way to play a secondary lead. You go boy!! 👍👏👏👏
