Beanie level: Entertainer-in-training

I just really loved episode 8 of When the phone rings. It is a show about FEEELLSSSSSS and it brings them every time.

I skipped some romantic scenes but if I consider only the thriller part, it was the best episode along with the first one.

I just started! But why on earth are they not sleeping in the same bed?!?! Ugh! These false chastity levels in kdramas kill me. Okay unpaused now and going back to it! Rant over

I had the same qn. You are a married couple in love for 3 years or more. And you kissed like you meant it. You came home and went separate ways??? WHYYYYY

      2
      1

Them staying in separate rooms is honestly less believable than the whole entire thing with the cliff 😂

I was going to wait to watch When the Phone Rings? tomorrow, but I can’t wait, lol

When the phone rings? will not air this weekend for obvious reasons. S.K needs to take care of itself, we shall await next week!!!

Not at all, not even 1 episode? (Wasn’t there a plan to only show 1 episode a week for a couple of weeks?) Wowie, I wondered if they would pull it altogether for at least a while.

    1
    1

Yeah, I know, but that means no skips in the upcoming weeks based on the nextflix schedule. So it is all good, plus anticipation seems apropo for this drama.

You’re right! Just a bit of delayed gratification for us, and Democracy for them 👍🏽

        3
        0

Oh man. But for Democracy, having to wait for new eps is ok.

    2
    1

I think they need distraction! It wasn’t a good reason 😭

    1
    1

They are showing some kind of news report at that time. Soompi has the information, but I get it, I was also looking forward to these episodes.

I LURVE When the phone Rings? So extra for absolutely no reason, 🫣😂

If needing therapy was a show = Trunk

So When the phone rings is a comedy right? The second episodw is hilarious, like two difderent dramas.

I’m glad I’m not the only one 😅 I laughed out loud a few times in ep. 2… everything is SO SERIOUS, but also kind of silly? I feel like I was watching a different drama than everyone else with 1 and 2, so I’m out 😂

    7
    2

P.S. in ep.2, it started to remind me of a less self-aware/more uptight Perfect Marriage Revenge

      5
      1

The genre whiplash is quite obvious. It leaned into makjang too.
Yeah, it takes a bit of getting used to. He is acting in a thriller and she is in a romcom.
But I am LOVING it 🙂 like you said, it did remind me of PMR.

        7
        2

“He is acting in a thriller and she is in a romcom” – that’s a really good description, Blue, and I think part of where I felt my disconnect! I’m glad you’re loving it and I’ll look forward to more of your gifs!!! 👍

          3
          2

That’s actually why I love it. He comes from a serious background and clearly takes everything too seriously. And is under immense pressure to perform. His life is kinda dark.
To think that he knows nothing about her and that she is the one who fooled him all along makes it an interesting watch for me.
So every time he finds something about her that he doesn’t know he is rattled. Eg when he saw her smile with the Sunbae. I bet he has never seen her smile. Ever.
So it gives me great pleasure to watch this man’s facade breakdown and to eventually see him come to ground to her world. We already have seen it during the wedding. He acts all bossy asking her to get up, and she doesn’t. And he goes down on a knee (for her) to put on the ring.
This is a man whose feelings clearly run deep but he also has an inflated sense of self so I can’t wait for him to completely shake up.
So many questions but I also think he didn’t marry her just for formality. There is more to it.
            Sorry, essay !!

I love your essays, @mayhemf! I like your description – it makes a lot of sense. I think I’ll drop it for now since I wasn’t connecting to it, and I may come back depending on how it ends. And this may just be one of those dramas that works better for me as a bingewatch!

            6
            0

Honestly if it gives me half the joy of PMR, I will be a happy girl. Right now I am loving it.

          5
          1

I’m sorry to hear that. It actually made me love the drama a little more because I was not expecting it at all.

      1

I dunno, I think I may have just been in a bad mood when I watched it!! I’m thinking I’ll come back to this later to see if I’m in a better mood to have fun with it 😂

        1
        1

Well we will certainly keep commenting, so that way you can decide based on that. At least you know we laugh at similar things. 😁🤣

          3
          1

OMG this is very tempting, I’ve been struggling not letting myself to watch the show until I complete the other dozens or so in my current watching list 😹 I think I can’t wait no more

    6
    1

I rarely laugh watching Romcom, but this 🤣🤣🤣🤣 so serious, yet funny. Love this. And THE TENSION

Ep 2 really leaned into the genre whiplash… Esp the meet-cute between 2FL and 2ML. I hope they realise they’re second couple at the earliest, rather than drag out the love square, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Also, I laughed so much at her selfie-taking. She sucks at it as much as I do.

    7
    1

Yes, I wish for this too. Their meet cute was so absurd because literally none of the surging girls touched him, while she was still flailing, lol.

      3
      1

lol. That scene was so OTT but also self aware of the romcom trope.
I like that they brought them together so soon. I want Paik Sa Eon to fume with jealousy yet also not want a love triangle. Because the OTT tension is giving me a weeks worth of Feels and I don’t want to be denied.

OMG Song Jae Rim has passed. 😢 This is so heartbreaking.

I dont want to open news pages any more

sad to say but it is autumn and dark and people are especially vulnerable so everyone should look out for each other

Does it bother anyone else that in Family by Choice, Hae Jun’s team only has like 6 players. Where is everyone else?

And where was the coach and bench during the big game? Did the boys self-coach? One foul was called.
I don’t like the way Joon-ho is being treated so shabbily by the siblings.

The basketball aspect is so bizarre, lol. It has bothered me since the beginning.

If meandering filler was a writer, ir would be Love next door. Unnecessarily long and no forward momentum, even if I did cry.

Blackout:

The Chief is DIABOLICAL, he said my son didn’t do it, who cares about the rest of these guys. Woof. Also the actor, TOP TIER. His face showed everything.

@miso2019, I really liked the first two episodes of Blackout. I didn’t expect to either. It reminds me a little bit of One Ordinary Day.

6
6

I did too! Initially was a bit taken aback by the large cast of characters and the pace of the background story in Ep. 1, but by Ep. 2, I was fully engrossed. Was starting to formulate theories about the culprit and looking at every character like 🧐.

I haven’t seen One Ordinary Day yet but I did see the British original and I agree there were definite similarities.

Where are you watching? I was so looking forward to this one but haven’t found it yet…

the darkside drama with a cool. I initially thought there wouldn’t be subs, but they both popped up the next day.

Yes, it also reminded me of that series.

The Auditors: My thought at the end is that, Numbers was better, lol.

Miss day & night: such a terrible last episode. The pacing is off and I thought this was billed as a partial romance. Why spend 90% of this episode on everything except the minimal romance. 😮‍💨😮‍💨

The cameo was the best part of this episode.

    2
    1

Yup the cameo saved the show! It’s the highlight of the ending and oh boy I’m glad I still patiently wait till the end or missed the only good part of it 🤭

Can I drop it now. Half way through 15.
Did they kiss?? A proper kiss?

    2
    2

Would you believe I can’t even remember??? I was so horrified by all the other things the writer made those actors say and do.

Down to the last shot of that last episode, I think I shouted, “OMG, WTF is HAPPENING???” like 5 times in the final hour.

      2
      2

Those last 10 min is what i signed up for.. the cuteness.. the smiles.. sigh..
May be ‘Bad memory eraser’ is what we need now… to erase whatever the heck this drama was.

ME too, I was mad. I was like What is happening? WHYYYYYY, WTF

The Good Partner: Slight spoiler

The way that poor woman has been gaslit her while marriage. The insane abuse he has put her through. This is enraging and terrifying. My God, this is disturbing.

6
1

I agree. Spousal abuse takes many more forms than just physical abuse. No wonder she has essentially gone insane.

Auditors: Is this lust, is this love, idk, but it has the good good I love. I’m only 20 mins in. 🥰🥰

Sweet Mobster: Ji Hwan’s sweater game is spectacular.

Red Swan: in between the eyeroll inducing nonsense, there is a story, but there is A LOT of nonsense. I will still watch though.

Midnight Romance: Min Ji for all that she was barely a character, I am sobbing. What a scene. You are are crying, no you are crying, I am crying.😅😭😭🥰
