Pretty Noona cast and crew may reunite for another warm melodrama

Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food’s PD Ahn Pan-seok and writer Kim Eun are beginning another project together called Spring Night. That’s not all—Sohn Ye-jin and Jung Hae-in, the lead couple from Pretty Noona are in the running to star! So far, it’s been reported that they’ve both received the script for this new project, and that they’re both reviewing it seriously.

The plot is about a couple that has been together for a long time. When the topic of marriage comes up, they begin to re-evaluate their relationship. All of that is complicated when potential new love interests appear, and they start to realize what their real feelings are.

The role that has been offered to Sohn Ye-jin is that of a research librarian, and Jung Hae-in has been offered the role of the young, hot man who has appeared in her life recently as a possible romantic partner. Hmm, I wouldn’t mind it if Jung Hae-in suddenly appeared in my life to sweep me away amongst a stack of books.

That being said, I haven’t seen Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food, so I can’t say if I’m excited for this pairing to happen again. However, I have heard that their chemistry was phenomenal from Beanies who have watched the drama, so maybe Spring Night will be a hit as well?

Wednesday-Thursday drama Spring Night is set to air on MBC, starting this May.

Honestly, I'm more disappointed in PD Ahn. I have so much respect for him and all his work, especially with Jung Sung-Joo.
Maybe I'm the one who didn't get "PRETTY NOONA" here? It got awards but I wanted to forget it lol.

I loved the first half and I did enjoy Ahn's signature styles but the writing just threw me off completely by the 2nd half of the show.

Here is hoping that she'd do a better job here.
If this was a reunion with writer Jung I'd jump for joy but I seriously don't care.

1

Why? The show was outstanding except for the last 2 episodes which was kind of a rush job but overall I never seen a show better than Something In The Rain so far. It will be my all time best drama I have ever watched.

Well, count me in.

I'm more disappointed with PD Ahn and Son Ye Jin, if she accepts. This duo deserve better writer. I'm pretty OK with Jung Hae In, but this reunion is too soon, and this will be Noona Part 2. Maybe, I will be fine if it is completely different genre. Besides, in the kdrama land's history, not all reunions will be as successful as the first one.

Huh, I heard Son Ye-jin was in the running, but it's bizarre that both of them might get on board! 😅
I'm not thrilled, to be honest, because I prefer exploring new pairings than reuniting old ones. Besides, it's hard to separate past characters from new ones too. They did have shocking chemistry, but this move just feels like one to rake in the money.

In this case, I definitely expect her to accept, but normally I wouldn't. That's why so many season two's lose their original cast. But seeing how Lee Jong-suk has worked with Park Hye-ryun three times, it could go either way! 😂

Exactly. The actors did have very nice chemistry in the early episodes, but the story dragged them down. So disappointing! So why would we want to see them again in a story from the same director and writer? Why would they themselves even consider it? Did they think it was a success?!

I think I bailed 5 episodes from the end. It just went on and on... I didn't think I was signing up for such a heavy melo. I thought it was going to be kind of light and fun but with the age gap hurdle. I didn't think there was going to be an insane and selfish mother making it a mess for everyone.

0

by the end, the mother wasn't even the worst, and the music was the least bad thing of all the things desperately wrong with that show, encapsulated in the most irredeemable lead character I have ever seen.

WHAAAT. Please no. I LOVED Pretty Noona who buys me Food aka Something in the Rain despite its flaws. Their chemistry was amazing. Acting was great. The music atrocious! Whatever they do, I'd watch but for the love of dramas get a new music director. And make them both orphans if I may be free...
But ugh, just give Sohn Ye-jin and Jun haein each a drama, it's kind of insulting to consider them again for a love story. I'd rather they make their own in reallife. Amirite. I'm imagining they simultaneously laughed at their considered casting and moved on.

I really loved Pretty Noona. It was one of the best 2018 drama and surely the best couple. But it's too soon to reunite them now. And it's a risk because there always is a comparaison with the first couple when two actors are reunited in a new story.
Jung Hae In filmed a romance with Kim Go Eun in a movie for 2019. So I would prefer to see him in another kind of drama/movie : thriller, SF, action, etc.

Pretty Noona was outstanding.
"it's a risk because there always is a comparaison with the first couple"
I think koreans see this actors differently, because I just watch dramas, but they see ads and more movies, entervews and vareity tv with these people, so they see the person more.
I think they can be more "independent" from the characters.
And "P. Noona" was my first Jung Hae In, later I watched "While you were sleeping" and it was fine.

It is extremely rare for k-drama leads to co-star together in their next project. I can see why a producer would want to keep them together because of the past buzz and Noona winning many awards, including best drama at last week's Asian Television Awards.

But it makes no career sense for either SYJ or JHI. SYJ came back to television after a long time doing movies, her preferred medium. There is renewed talk for her to do a sequel to "Pirates." JHI is currently shooting a movie. His agency would want him to be cast in different genres so he can have more long term success.

Production companies often leak who they sent scripts in order to generate buzz and project financing. It may entice other actors to inquire about the project.

I agree that Spring Night seems to be a thinly veiled remake of Noona. Success breeds copycats, but self-plagiarism seems weird.

Also the premise. If it was horrible to watch SYJ with at least two boyfriends apart from her OTP partner (a.k.a the gorgeous Jung Hae in), I cannot imagine what would it be to have her already married, even though the husband would agree they both should reconsider their relationship.

Hi David! It looks like you really loved Pretty Noona! I think you’ll enjoy our unofficial comment page recap of this show which we started when it live aired. Many of us couldn’t wait to talk about this drama that started off so differently than what we were used to and really felt like a lot of would imagine (and actually experience) about love and that physicality of it. I really thought this would be my favorite rom-com as well. Then it had to shoehorn in a toxic-emotionally-physically abusing mother and misogynistic business practices which left more than a bad taste in my mouth. The first 8-9 episodes were perfect in my book. The episode by episode comments start on the second page of the comments. ENJOY! 😉 http://www.dramabeans.com/2018/01/jung-hae-in-up-to-romance-sohn-ye-jin-in-pretty-noona-who-buys-me-food/comment-page-2/

I am torn.
I hated the ending of Pretty Noona almost as much as I loved the first 8.
I mean...what do you even do with this?
Do you watch it and hope that the end doest freaking suck this time? The the entire backhalf isnt painful and pointless and that it doesnt end with you scratching your head because no one learned anything.
The chemistry between the otp was amazing---but how is that going to translate in this new scenario?
You know what? If this horrible idea does come to pass (does it? have I missed more updates and everyone has said no?) Im going to need like...I dont know, a translated upload of the last few scripts to be assured that the ending isnt garbage.

No. That wont be enough.
