Happy Friday, beanies!! Hope you'll are having a awesome weekend.
I'm enjoying Thirty but seventeen when the world seems so serious and full Of upside down this drama is so funny, innocent, naive, Refreshing drama to lighten up my head. This makes me smile and exercise some muscles in my face because of those teen ages wholesomeness.
I'm enjoying My ID is Gangnam beauty too. I am proud of Mi Rae, I love how she stood her ground with the bully. I also love how her best friend rolled up on the bully like she was ready to handle business. There's no end to Soo-ah's nastiness. Eveytime she starts lying I want to make her stop. My eye muscles are tired from frequent eye rolling.

Hi Everyone! ...... I hope you are all doing well today!
This week:
Thirty But Seventeen - I'm still in the beginning episodes and everyone is getting used to each other. If Seo-ri's situation happened to anyone in real life, I can only imagine how disorienting and surreal the whole situation would be.
Mr. Sunshine - Wan-ik .... someone, anyone, please rid the world of this person ..... hurry! And that preview ---- oh no!
Your Honor - So I'm suddenly unsure about this one. I've never said this before about Yoon Si-yoon, but I'm not really liking the overacting on his part.
Let Me Introduce Her - So I decided to check this out with the intention of only watching the first episode. I was really curious how they would explain why a person who underwent facial reconstruction surgery ended up with amnesia. Three episodes later, I still don't know why because it was never explained. In the meantime, gangsters are looking high and low for the person who now has a new face and amnesia, the patient now lives with her plastic surgeon, he's getting interested and oh yeah, she may be married. Yeah, it's a weekend drama. *laughing*
That's all for now. ...... Take care everyone and have a great Friday!

haha I haven't seen Let Me Introduce Her, but your description reminded me of the amnesia trope (not to mention a new face :)) that has been prevalent in kdramas past. It's been a while, right?
I have to reluctantly agree about Your Honor. I have been supporting YSY's overacting as I think he does it well, but he seems to be over-overacting at times. Funny the PD wouldn't rein it in a bit, just a bit. Still, I'm going to hang on and give the bigger story a chance.
Have a great weekend!

I'm ready for anything to happen on Let Me Introduce Her. Heh! I think it may be one of those dramas where nothing can be considered out of the question.
Regarding Your Honor, your description is spot on! It is over-overacting! .... and it's unfortunate because the story seems to be pretty good. The over-overacting just seems so distracting because no one else is doing it, just him.
Have a great weekend also!

Agreed on Your Honor. Lately it seems like over acting has become more of a thing in k-dramas. I guess it is supposed to be funny, but I find it kind of dumb because nobody real would actually act that way.

Hellooo!! How is everyone? School's finally slowing down with assessments so I have room for some more dramas 😁. I've been really enjoying My ID is Gangnam Beauty. Even though all the cringe scenes from every romantic are in this drama, I can't help but really ship our main characters! I am also watching My House Helper and Mr. Sunshine. Does anyone have any dramas that they are really loving at the moment that they mind sharing. There are just too many to choose from!

30 but 17 has finally found its groove in my opinion. I didn't like the premise initially, but I didn't want to drop another YSJ drama. I really liked him in duel but unfortunately had to drop temperature of love. So I'm glad that I stuck with it.

great... you decided to stick with it...
i dint even like the setup initially when DB article came about a girl in coma for 13 years then acting as 17 years old.... but still gave it a try just for YSJ and i am so glad i did.
As we discussed on whatsapp... it has all cliche tropes, usual kdrama plots but everything is done so well and beautifully that you rarely find those things annoying while watching the episodes...

Really enjoying Life at the moment. I hate it when there are more than one good shows in a timeslot. I had to sacrifice Let's eat 3 this week for Life.
Well these two are the only shows that genuinely have my interest. I'll keep checking Mr. Sunshine for the cinematography maybe. The show isn't bad but I'm not impatient neither curious.
Won jin ah is slowly becoming my favorite 20sth actress. I want this writer to write a romance next because she writes subtle romances amazingly and probably cast Jang ki yong and Won jin ah.

Re Familiar Wife, I wrote this in a comment already but here's what I think:
I’m not very keen on a love triangle (if that's where it's going) between Original Wife, Present Wife & Man. What really irks me is that so far all the decision making power lies with Ji Sung’s character. The story seems to only be asking for his character growth. It makes the Show quite boring to me. It may change later of course, and when it does – I might pick it up again if I like the sound of it.

So... I'm finally out of the silent readers and back commenting here again. Ever since Because This is My First Life ended, I was in a kdrama slump. I guess I was too disappointed in the ending (after what was a wonderful drama) and just dropped kdramas altogether :D
Which gave me time to really work on myself, on my physical and mental health. And, surprisingly, once I started feeling better I picked up kdramas again! After a couple of duds (e.g. About Time & The Undateables and, to an extent, Secretary Kim) I'm now really happy I started watching 30 but 17. Man, this little bundle of giddiness is just what I need! Also, in a turn of events I did not expect, I'm also kinda watching Man to Man, per my husband's request. I have no idea what to expect from it, but so far I like the romantic scenes between both male leads.

My annoyance with VIKI continues unabated and I have extended my (pointless and ineffectual) one-woman protest boycotting them by not watching them.
It started with a one-day boycott when they removed my happy drama Thirty But Seventeen overnight. After showing 12 episodes, they lost the license in the middle of the season. It must have happened quickly because they left the banner up ...
I was so annoyed by that banner, telling you that, viewer, you want to watch Thirty but Seventeen - yes, I know that viki: I want to but you WON'T LET ME. I really wanted them to take that banner down.
Well, I got what I wanted, they replaced that banner. Only they replaced it with Lovely Horribly. Now I'm no longer slightly peeved with VIKI, no, I'm full-scale pissed off. (If you're interested in why I hate having this shoved in my face every time I open VIKI, have a look at the comment section here http://www.dramabeans.com/2018/08/premiere-watch-lovely-horribly/)
That meant that I decided to extend my one-day boycott to a full week. The result is that I have been mainly watching stuff on Netflix.
The upside of this was that I watched an interesting jdrama called Switched which was a lot better than I expected. It's short and it's got both an interesting premise and an interesting message. Basically, the popular pretty girl gets her body stolen when the class outcasts figures out how to switch lives. Only changing the way you look doesn't necessarily change the way you are...

I actually did try, and as much as I don't want to pass judgment on the actor, I can't help but question the character - as a direct result of this casting. The script does seem to be so good -I loved W: Two Worlds & the few similar shows - but I was incapable of enjoying the Show. Park Shi Hoo is a Schroedinger's rapist in my mind now - and like most women, I respond with a 'better safe than sorry' approach even when it comes to watching the drama.

Life On Mars - Second OT Review - Comparison of the BV (BBC Version (2006-2007)) with the KV (Kdrama Version (2018))
Hi again @bugsbunny @linda-palapala @thequiet1 @newstory and everyone,
I only managed to watch a few more episodes this week, and have more to go before the finale. I still find that what I felt before holds true. Both the BV and the KV are worth the watch. I will say however that the BV is harder to watch. It could be because it was produced in 2006-2007 and was depicting the true state of 1973, but the lack of respect for people generally and for their rights was glaring and lasted longer in the series. Also troubling was the lack of knowledge or care for victims in terms of help for post traumatic stress.
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
On the whole I found the KV much 'sweeter' in tone and mood, warmer and more uplifting and more hopeful from earlier on in the series. In the BV, I felt that Sam gained a yard, but then lost a mile in the gaining of the understanding and respect of his workmates. It was frustrating. The tone, I felt, up to the point I watched, was more cynical.
I liked that in the KV, Tae Joo had (more) opportunities to demonstrate his abilities, that he had conversations with his younger self and had more occasions to meet with his parents. Of course I've yet to watch until the end to see whether Sam has other chances to change his own 'fate'.

August 17, 2018 at 7:54 AM
Sadly I felt that in the BV, Sam was doing more sleuthing on his own, whereas in the KV, there was more getting back together with at least one other or the team, before long. I missed the camaraderie that the KV had. That he managed to have Annie on his side seemed like much more of a triumph, because the rest of the team was just not with him, and he was practically pulling out his hair in despair. Tae Joo appeared more stoic by comparison.
In the KV, there was more evidence of team work and bonding. Maybe it is also a cultural thing? In Britain with a flatter hierarchical structure that did not require the lower ranks to give much show of respect towards Sam, they appeared more downright rude, and even the character of Chris Skelton (Nam Shik's counterpart) was not on Sam's side.
The scary 'TV girl' was at times an embodiment of his self-doubt, and taunting him, which did not help his self confidence at all. I did not really understand why there had to be this 'scare' element in the show since the stress of trying to fit in, to make himself understood, to get back to his 'time' were already so ... welll ... STRESSFUL.
I agree with reviews that with the overall arc of hunting down the manicure murderer, the KV flowed better, projected a clearer sense of purpose for the series, and gave viewers a great degree of satisfaction in the resolution of that serial murder crime. Until I come to the end, I can't say if overall the degree of satisfaction will be more or less. However the inclusion of manicure murders even in 1988, gave the KV the added element of mystery or raised the tantalising question: did the murderer time travel and therefore did that mean that Tae Joo also time travelled? This sparked off more discussion and fun confusion (for us!) on top of the question of whether Tae Joo was alive or in a coma. This was not so evident with the BV.
Required fields are marked *
growingbeautifully
August 17, 2018 at 7:55 AM
In the KV, together with the added interest of manicure murders taking place in 1988, the incorporation of Na Young into the murder arc as almost victim or as possible victim in the white dress, amped up the suspense and brought the worry and fear for Na Young close to viewers, in a way that the BV run-through-the-woods scene failed to do. However, looking again at BV Ep 1, the scene of the walk in the woods was already introduced. I have to watch to find out if more comes of it, as at this stage, it has not amounted to much!! Or maybe someone who's watched the BV can tell me?
I guess even now, I already know that I have a warmer feeling towards the KV, but I'll try to watch the BV to the end to see if any of my 'feelings' change. I do however like the pop music of the past which brings more nostalgia into my cut and dried life. 😋 😆

Hello beanies! Happy Friday!
Not for me though. I just lost my job yesterday. So I am in a state of I don't know what.
Sometimes I think it was for the best because I was not getting the tasks I was hoping I would. Then again, it really hurts. I have lost my professional identity within a matter of hours.
The job was fun for the first six months then it went downhill. Now, it has been a year.
Apparently I was just listless in the house, so my mom told me to talk to other people and snap out of it.
Soooo, HERE I AM!
Thanks to dramabeans for letting me vent it out. (I am trying my best to not to get into a state of depression)

Good gosh. I'm so sorry to read this. Even if one doesn't like the job, losing it isn't much consolation. I wish things had worked out in a way that allowed you time to find a new one before you no longer have to go, but even if they didn't, it's quite okay! In the end it's "Good riddance!" anyway! Something better will come along. Hope it doesn't take too long.

Watching drama is great to relieve stress but in your situation it's better to limit yourself.
Listening to podcasts or reading books can be a better choice for entertainment. Also don't forget to work out, even if you don't like it. Exercise will keep you off from the risk of depression.
I second Greenfields, I believe you'll get something better in the future. Good luck!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's not fun when you start to feel not enjoying your work, after all it's part of your day in life, so on the flip side, it's a blessing in disguise..
I'm glad your mom got your back during this tough time.
I don't know how to give comforting words, but in the meantime, rest properly, do whatever you want to do that you couldn't before because of that job, or perhaps learn/ develop new hobby/ skills.
I hope you'll be okay soon. It takes time but everything's gonna be fine. 💐

You're not alone, there's us with all our ups and downs in work. Sometimes I wonder if I should just stop working.
While it helps to keep talking and letting out the stress, do so without letting the emotion get the better of you. There's this human thing where re-living an unhappy event by talking about it, can actually worsen the pain or heighten the anger/resentment. 😐 All the best and may this be (in the words of Seo Ri of 30 But 17 / Still 17) merely an intermission before you encounter your next and even better job!

I am sorry to read about this, and I really hope you find a better job soon! I agree with what most beanies said, now is the time to do whatever you can’t do while working. I also strongly agree with what Ally said about personal identity being more important.
I personally struggled with my value in this world as an unemployed person for a while, and it was after I took a break from job hunting to spend more time on the people and things I loved and really mattered that I rediscovered and learnt to value my personal identity. My professional identity was quick to follow, but I had to feel all right as a person first.
At last I also agree with your mom. You have every right to feel hurt about this, but do not become listless or let it bring you down. There is much more to life than a job. It is a mantra that you will have to repeat to yourself many times, but it really is true.

Ah so sorry to read this. The first time I was fired from a job I called my parents and my dad just told me "no one is worth their salt if they haven't been fired at least once."
It was hard being fired - but I was so glad within 24 hours because I absolutely HATED that job, and the other one I was fired from.
It is an awful feeling - but in the end, you will rise and grow from this experience. And there will be a better job for you!

OT week 79! After finally figuring out what has been wrong with me (ragweed allergies), I’m finally feeling like myself again in the latter week. I had initially thought it was because I had so much fun last weekend and was recovering from that. So we were going to watch Baumdog Revenge Club during my minivacay last weekend, but couldn’t get it to cast onto the TV in the house we were staying, and apparently no one wanted to watch it on my laptop. I may have been slightly inebriated to be of any use figuring it all out. I did help cook dinner though. I should cook drunk more often. It was delicious! But electronic devices while intoxicated are not my thing. Actually, electronic devices while totally alert are not by thing either.
Which is why I’m always so happy when I can watch kdramas on my TV without having to do anything to get it there. Turn on TV, click on Netflix, done. Turn on TV, click on VIKI, done. Turn on TV, click on DF, done. Which is why I’m commiserating with @cloggie about VIKI losing the rights to 30 but 17. Because now, I have to find it elsewhere and cast it onto my television. Which is an extra 5 steps for me, and it doesn’t work nearly as seamlessly. I’m still loving this show though. Too much cute, great acting, lovely characters. I kind of think we don’t need a villain in this one. The show is too good to have one.
Then there’s Let’s Eat 3. I still really like this too! I’m seeing that the story is not really revolving around Dae Young anymore, but his “love interest” which it’s always been that way, but for some reason, I like it better this time around. Jin-woo’s relationship with her mother is so sweet. I loved this week when they were watching Secretary Kim (I’m pretty sure the proposal episode) but mom was trying to find a show that she remembered from like 20 years ago, and the actors had actually gotten married in real life and she was teasing Jin-woo to not mix up fantasy with reality. She never met a kdrama shipper, did she?
I’ve finally completed Prison Playbook! Yay! I really like this soundtrack right now. It’s the other thing playing besides for the Beanie Island Party playlist on Spotify! I will have super fond memories of this show. I don’t think it’s the best show I’ve seen this year, LIVE is still holds that place. The LIVE soundtrack is daebek too! Oh! I should merge these two!
Mr. Sunshine also has a great soundtrack, very sad though. I can’t get any work done when I listen to it. It’s one you just need to wallow in. I like all the artists on it. Like, they all have music in my phone right now. The show is still beautiful, but I confess, I fell asleep while watching both episodes this past week. I could have also been because I was struggling with being sick earlier this week.
That’s it for now.
While watching “Let’s Eat 3:”
Me: That’s bacon they’re eating.
Daughter: I know, mom, I can see that.
Me:...

...Well, you just walked in.
Daughter: Do they use like half their money to pay the chefs on this show?
Me: I don’t know, I think that these are actual restaurants that they are eating in and the owners and cooks there are making the dishes.
Daughter: I bet they’re paid “handsomely.”
Me: *Doing the side eye to her. Was that a joke? Was she making a comment about the actors in the scene—because they’re all handsome and having them in the restaurant is payment enough? Is she only 10? Who is this child that came from my womb?*
Moral of the Story: Some comments you just leave and never know the answer to.
Second Moral: I love my kdrama buddy. She was having heartburn and couldn’t sleep so I gave her medicine and joined me on the couch last night. Making up for the year she kept me up all night with colic.
Third Moral: Have a great weekend all, and I hope you all are well!

Happy Weekend Beanies!
I thought I had my priorities sorted every day, and I did…after I started the day with coffee and a Thirty but seventeen episode first. :P It is the first K-drama that feels like the episode lasts only 5 minutes. No matter how interesting, I always end up pausing multiple times in an episode because I can no longer focus. If you can keep me invested for an hour before I have finished my morning coffee, then you are doing a great job.
Just one more episode and I will be able to live watch and comment on recaps with the other beanies until the end. Real life usually forces me to marathon finished K-dramas, so I am glad that I might be able to experience this too. I hear many interesting opinions about watching live versus binge watching, and I would love to experience both at least once. Unfortunately that means a few days without Seo Ri and her housemates, because we only get one episode next week.
There are of course other K-dramas I could start and catch up on. I am very cross with certain beanies for hyping up My ID is Gangnam Beauty and a Witch’s Love last week, because now I have this crazy ambition to catch up on those as well! :O I finally understand the struggle many beanies go through every week ;)

Good morning my fellow Beanies! Hope everyone had a wonderful week!
I am Human Too Finished this up over the weekend and loved it. I am so happy it ended the way it did. I was worried they would deny us because he is an android while she is human. Seo Kang-Joon did an excellent job playing the 2 different characters. You could tell who was the android and who was the human just by how he acted (unless they were trying to be the other person). Nam Shin III was so sweet and adorable and I'm so happy he got his happy ending. I am pretty sure I am now a robosexual because of him.
My ID is Gangnam Beauty I've only watched 1 episode so far but it seems like it will be good. I was worried about the whole premise around the plastic surgery but so far it seems like they are handling it deftly. She has lived her whole life being bullied and abused because she was so ugly that she couldn't take it anymore. But now that she is beautiful she has a whole new set of issues to deal with all while still being the same person she was. When she did her dance and everyone was cheering for her, she was so happy she was crying that people actually liked her that it broke my heart.
The Flame's Daughter Finished this last week and really enjoyed it. I thought all the actors did a wonderful job and like most Chinese dramas, it was beautiful. I just wish there was a bit more romance and actual physical contact between our main lovers. The small moments they had with each other were sweet but I wanted more! And even though I am happy with the endings resolution it seemed a bit too neat and convenient. I guess when your show involves magic you can do whatever you want to get the results you desire.

Legend of Fuyao I love Yang Mi, she is such a talented actress. She does such an excellent job bringing the badass Fuyao to life. And her chemistry with Ethan Juan is awesome. I could watch hours of these 2 just playing, teasing and cuddling each other. The physical contact I was missing in Flame is made up for in this drama. They are so adorable together. I also love the friendship between Wuji, Beiye, Fuyao, Yue and Zhu. They all support and help each other which makes for an engaging drama. I also love how these heroes are always 1 step ahead of the baddies, unlike Kdramas where the role is usually reversed (which makes for some frustrating dramas). It makes for tons of fist pumping when the heroes plans click into place and the baddies are caught in their intricate net.

Princess Agents If you can't tell I'm in a huge Cdrama kick. Another one I've started and I am enjoying. Chu Qiao is a little boring as a character right now as she doesn't really emote much, even in situations that might call for it. I've never seen Zhao Liying in anything before so I'm not sure if it is her or the character. Right now Yuwen Yue is a bit of an asshole who has his own agenda involving Chu Qiao, but that makes their interactions interesting to watch, and Yan Xun is a playful rascal who just wants to play with his 'wildcat'. I know things will change but it's interesting to see the different characters and how they will change as events start happening.

In the 1st episode they haven't really shown anyone. Just some eyes and the rest of her has all been pretty shadowy. But I feel bad for those actresses who they put in kdramas just to be the 'ugly' person or the comic relief. Like Lee Do-Yeon is usually the 'ugly' comic relief which makes me feel sad for her.

I like the fact that they aren't showing her face as someone who is so ugly - then other girls who might kind of look like her or have similar features could think they were super ugly.
too bad for the actress playing her - but I prefer it this way.

Is shin kicking a uniquely Korean thing? I find it both amusing and horrifying that in kdramas, superiors do it all the time, no matter what dignified position they hold.
I also find the physical abuse and violence towards fellow colleagues seem common place. At least it does in dramas. I am sure there's plenty of backstabbing in the offices anywhere but physical violence, really?

I don't know about in an office setting, but one of my friends while growing up was Korean and she would be physically violent with us. You would be walking and she would just come up and smack you on the back or punch your arm. Of course this is just a single person I knew and this could be just her own quirk and have nothing to do with being Korean, but since I see it in kdramas all the time I just assume that's how it might be.

I feel like physical violence is definitely a Korean thing, but it happens in all Asian countries to some degree. But when I saw a senior resident (Seo Hyun-jin’s character) being slapped/punched by an attending in Romantic Doctor Kim that first time, it totally surprised/floored me. I even asked if that happened in professional medical training there in the first recap I ever wrote in. Because if that happened in the US, there would be at the very least disciplinary action, withheld pay, and likely legal prosecution as well. I also have a friend who is Korean who was physically violent to her husband, who is not Korean, when they were first married, then she learned that it wasn’t appropriate and stopped when they came to the US. I just think that it’s more accepted, as long as you don’t mame the other person.

I'd really like to know to what extent it happens in Asia. Maybe other beanies can comment.
I live in Singapore, South East Asia. I've never heard, much less seen physical violence in a workplace. When it does, it makes to the papers. Two years ago, a boss got 10 days jail for slapping and punching a intern. One might think a kick in the shin is less than a slap or punch but still, no colleague or superior should hit any part of your body.

I'm from India. I can't really comment on the professional scenario because im still a student. However when i was in primary school in India, corporal punishment was banned. Teachers are not even allowed to touch students now. Before that children were regularly caned/flogged. I remember my dad saying that parents in his time used to particularly ask teachers to cane children if they weren't performing academically. Hope this helps :)

I'm also Indian, only in my 20s, but during my early childhood, I've been caned several times for not listening to teachers - even though I was a straight A+s student. So that's a fairly recent development
At work, while outright physical abuse is not tolerated, superiors can get away with a lot of other stuff.
Eg. 1. A friend of mine was forced to climb eight floors once right after she injured her knee in an accident because her boss didn't like her,
2. I've been made to move insanely heavy bags, or travel alone late at night in isolated places, because my boss was an a**hole,
3. I've heard of people having paper weights thrown at them by a famour partner in one of the biggest law firms here.
None of this is direct physical violence, but is, I think, no less shocking.

Also @greenfields,
It s a fairly recent development based on how old you are. It was introduced around 8-10 yrs back if I'm not wrong. Hi Everyone and Happy OT!
Following up on what I was saying last week ... I'm definitely continuing with Firefly and loving it. I've watched the episode with the funniest torture scene ever. I think I giggled throughout, as the torture-ee's repartee continued unabated, while punctuated by their yells of pain. The only thing I found a bit out of whack was the lack of Asians, since that story world had a US-China Alliance. The so-called spoken Chinese had me in stitches ... that is, if I could even understand any of it!!! 😆
The irreverent humour, the weirdest sense of honour of Capt Mal (who could just as well kill as save a person), and the well-paced, coherent action with a roundedness to each character is a winner through and through. Can't they just continue where they left off but treat it as a new series, set a decade later, but with the same cast? 😂

His cremation was today and my family saw the entire coverage even though it was around 3 hours long. That is how respected the man was, not just within his own party but even among the opposition. If I'm not wrong then our 11th and 12th grade maths corresponds to the advanced (? Is that right?) Course that 10th graders take in the States. One of my friends had moved to the US and found that students there are a year or two behind us. They also get the SK students to take an exam (which is like SATs in UK) . SK students finish it off in like 30 minutes top when that exam is supposed to be hour or two hour long. Its a good show. Search for it on youtube

TGIF! Congratulations on surviving another hot summer week! Sad that my favorite LoM ended and I am still debating whether to watch Voice2 (I couldn't finish Voice because I got scared). Good that I still have Mr. Sunshine and other shows(Life yes!).
I saw people mentioning the cute music show "To. Jenny" in OT. Kim Sung-chul (27) who played the lead Park Sung-min, and also appeared in "Wise Prison living" had a short interview.[Star News] "I am not a shy person. So I had hard time acting the character because my real self kept popping up. I had one-sided crush before, but I am not the type lingering on it. I think I had one for about 2 years when I was in high school." In "To Jenny" the only thing his character knew was singing. Even though the show only had 2 episodes, it gained viewers' interests as a new Music genre drama. "In a drama the emotion gets stronger when there is music. In this drama, because actor did music himself I think emotion was relayed better. As an actor who loves music, I was attracted to this project because I could do acting and music. I have never dreamed to become a singer, but I enjoyed to sing ever since I was young. I've never had a lesson for instruments, but I got to learn the guitar for the show."
About co-star Jung Jae-yeon(21), he expressed satisfaction. "Jae-yeon is still young so she can do many and variety of roles. She portrayed an image of first love, and I think she can digest other characters with her acting as well as with her looks." About doing shoots with her, Kim said, "Because we were in the situation that we had to talk comfortably rather quickly, I pretended being close. In filming the scene going on a picnic in episode 2, we had to act having fun. It could've been burden because it was first scene filming and we were still awkward. Even though there was no line, I made her open up by doing ad-lib."
Kim studied theater, and made his debut in musical "Adolescence" in 2014. However he was only seriously recognized by TVN's Wise Prison Living. "Wise prison living was the project which brought me up to the surface, and now I started to swim through "To Jenny". From here and on, all I have to do is to swim deeper and pick marine products, working hard." Kim's dream is to become an "Action star". He wants to challenge an action genre like Avengers which also has fancy CG. "Action itself is very manly and it has lot to watch. Maybe that is why I am attracted to. I really love a superhero character like 'Dark knight'. Don't you think Koreans can make those too?"
Kim plans to meet the audience in the movie "Rose of Betrayal" in fall. "Until my next project is decided, I think I will spend time on preparation, doing workout and stuff. I think it will be time to accept new things."
Tiramisu cake! Tiramisu cake! (TC song and little sister were my favorites in the show)

Happy weekend, Beanies 🌷
Your House Helper- Things happen but feels like the plot slows down a bit. I'm surprised with the latest episode's ending, totally didn't see that coming because there's no hint at all from previous episodes. But it's nice tho, more plot development.😊
30 but 17- Not much to say, still cute, full of heart. 😍
Witch's Love- Getting pretty interesting, but I wonder what's the meaning of that blue jar dropped and broke? Maybe I ff too much that I missed the point? Or not? Witch ahjumma and halmoni with their cute sleep caps, adorable!😂 There's a debate that SML is the destined one but because I got this deep trauma watching Hongbin in Moorim School and Wenesday, so nope. 🙈
Heavy Sweetness, Ash-like Frost- Ugh, that Empress is so annoying and evil😒
Picking up Caught in The Heartbeat, so far 1st episode got pretty weird unnecessary fluff (I mean really show? FL will get memory flashback/ clue about the crime every time she kisses the ML?). I was expecting it to be more serious ala CSI since it's a crime drama. But I'll keep watching since the case makes me curious.

Re: House Helper, I was wondering why he seemed kinda, idk, almost jealous whenever he saw Woo Jin and Da Young interact. Another question I have is what does he get out of Woo Jin pining after his mom? Neither one of them knows where she is. He's old enough to understand that Woo Jin needs to move on. Idk, just seems immature and out of place in this drama.

Perhaps Ga-ram thought Woo-jin is two-timing his mom? Maybe he expects Woo-jin to be loyal to his mom only even though she's not there?
Idk, just seems immature and out of place in this drama.
Agree about this bit, because he seems stable and mature when he's with the customers and So-mi.

Hi beanies!
Happy Friday. Just wanted to write you a quick note before flying out to a castle in France (one of my many, many, many cousins is getting married and oh boy, is she sparing no expenses for the traditionnal-religious-extravaganza awaiting us all), so I'll be off the site for the next 10 days. I just wanted to tell you all how happy I am that you exist, each and every one of you, because your comments make me smile, because your passion makes me happy, and your general loveliness makes this crazy world a better place. Yes, dramas are not necessarily "serious" work, and they may seem silly and superficial to the outside eye, but we all know better and I'm in awe of the generosity, respect, and wild diversity of opinions on this site. Makes it a magical place for me and my beluga ways :)
Kudos to javabeans and girlfriday for creating this space, but thank you to all beanies who contribute everyday to this haven of goodness. I'll miss you all. Talk to you soon <3

Hello Beanies,
Today is last days of sleeping in. Next week, my daughter start preschool again. This time, in different school and also she will taking a bus. I am excited for her but nervous. I explain it on my wall. So, see it there. Just do not comment it here. As, I am happy that she is herself and she is happy and sweet girl. My job is always be there for her no matter and also my other two kids. Even though, my oldest going to be in high school soon. OMG... I feel so old. My oldest will be in 7 th grade. 😭 My other youngest sons will be in 4 th grade. They start school Sept. 4. The school chapel looks really nice. (They go to private catholic school.) Also, they will also have science lab and stem lab. It all dues that we pay the tuition for all those and that is why tuition goes up.
Last night, I watched Crazy Rich Asian with my two girl friends. Her new car posted on my fan wall. It is electric car. =O She always mentioned to me her sister is richer than her. I do not know why but she always says that to me.😂🤣 My friend and her family is going to Hawaii again. She always complain that she goes every summer of school starts and yet she still goes there.🤦🏻♀️🤣😂 I have not read the trilogy book of it. Therefore, the guy is good looking and story have some humor of it. My friend who read the book and watched it. She told me last night, the book is so much better and she do not think they will do other two book for the movies. Which is shame because I want more of her friend and her friend’s family due that was the only part was really funny and enjoyed the most of it.
Mr. Sunshine: I can see the change of Dong Mae that they mention. His army is like three people instead of a lot of guys. His personality too because he was this HOT Hatred issues and now it is all about Ae-Shin.
Yes, I did notice the strange romantic relationship with Eugene and Ae-shin but whatever. I am interested in Kim Mung characters and love her clothes. Oh, I also interested in the Japanese geisha. I want to know more of her stories and hope we get to see her background and how she become deaf and geisha and how she met Dong Mae.
Familiar Wife: I am rooting for his co-worker and friend with Woojin than Ji Sung Character. They got tons of chemistry and the his dreams of them dang. There was a lot of chemistryd too. Therefore, that is who I am rooting for now.
I still need to catch up with other Chinese dramas of Yunxi and Fuyao and My Story for you.
In another note, anyone watch Yu Mama new Chinese drama. I read it is good and he did not butcher it all.. 😱 I also know Yang Yang New drama Master of Universe is out. I wonder if it is good too. Of those two, meh I need a recap to see if it is worth to watch another long Chinese dramas. LOL
I have finished my book Silend Child by Sarah A. Denzil. That was really interesting and good book. Omg, some of it is true of what she wrote. I will post it on my fan wall. My next book will be Little Fires...

well i'm in a barren land of dramas to watch, with only Mr. Sunshine and Life being on my live-watch list.
so i picked up the J dorama Stepmother & Daughter Blues starring Ayase Haruka, Takenouchi Yutaka, and Sato Takeru -- it's pretty cute and there's something kooky going on with Sato Takeru's character that after only 3 episodes... manga-style comedy, i think.
going to try to see Crazy Rich Asians this weekend, since i read the book and want to support this hollywood venture featuring its only 2nd all-Asian cast in the past 25 years...
@Trina mentioned that her friend said the book was better, one of my friends said the movie was better... hmmm, i'll weigh in after i see it, tho i've already "wrecked" it for some (@ally-le, i'm sorry) by saying i had pictured Gong Yoo in the Nick Young lead role while reading the book... and i think i might still imagine him as i watch the movie... just because.

This is why I try not to read the book before seeing the movie. Big Little Lies was the last book I read that was made into something, and I still can’t bring myself to watch the HBO mini-series. The Harry Potter Series had the perfect cast though. I think it had a lot to do with how involved the author was with it.

i'm actually now looking forward to seeing the film after reading an interview with the director -- he said he wanted to focus on the Asian American girlfriend's experience of going to Asia for the first time, and being tossed into a cultural/socioeconomic clash rather than focus on the constant barrage of designer name-dropping lifestyle of the characters in the book.

I saw it before I read your comment that Gong Yoo would have been a much better Nick Young if his English was better. You're right, but Henry Golding does just fine even if he isn't quite as elegant as I imagined the character. Constance Wu is great, but it is really the settings that stole the show for me. Next time the spouse is sent to Singapore for business, I will be trying harder to tag along for the ride, and the food.

Henry Golding has no acting background, being just a travel host prior to the movie. But he is amazing as Nick Young and I like that he never has that "tried too hard" to be charming style. He simply is just charming. Maybe I am bias, since I am Malaysian and so is he but the review been good, so a lot agree that he looks the part.

I'm still enjoying My ID is Gangnam Beauty!
I read the translated webtoon, and surprisingly, I think the drama is even better! Typically, written works have more characters and dive deeper into details and themes of a story, but that's not the case here. I love how the drama added some worthwhile characters like Oh Hyun Jung, Mi Rae’s parents, and some more classmates, and also details like Mi Rae’s loving dancing, and as her mom says, being “cute, lively, kind, and full of energy.” The show, more than the webtoon, depicts Mi Rae as a person that is more than just the physical transformation/self image journey she is going through, though it could do even more with that I think! It also definitely makes it clearer to see why Kyung Seok is drawn for her for reasons other than just her sad story. I definitely appreciate that!
While I understand the theme of this drama is beauty inside and out, its role, and its problems, but even in a culture that may overemphasize or overvalue physical appearance or specific beauty standards, there are still many other factors that come into play to influence a person’s life experience! I think the story, (the webtoon even more than the drama so far) really does itself a disservice in leaving it all out. Saying that beauty for women means success, power, and respect an exaggeration and extreme oversimplification. Life circumstances, (wealth, class, education, family, friends, group social dynamics, just to name a few) and other things that make up a person, like intelligence, talent, passions, feelings, and personality, all come into play in mapping out a person’s story. I’m not saying that being beautiful doesn’t have its benefits, but I wish it acknowledged a little more that there’s so much more to life! Of course we see that perspective a tiny bit with Kyung Seok, but he’s still “beautiful,” and then every other scene or aspect of the drama are conversations about physical appearance. This is certainly a story about how a person’s physical appearance shaped her life experience and in result, her self-image and personality. And I’m actually loving it, and think they’ve done a really excellent job, handling the content. The above paragraph is my just my two sense about how I think it could have been even a little bit better.

🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I actually felt tempted to watch this drama, because like SK, I come from a country and a cultural mindset that gives too much attention to the beauty outside, sometimes subtle, sometimes openly.
But while I have seen in other dramas this is a topic people gossip about for a long long time, just mostly talking at someone's back, I have the feeling we do it more direct to the person. I mean, we may comment about somebody else's appearance but it is a quit chat or a very simple judgment: "she should dress better", or "well, he is not very handsome, indeed"... or just like my sister said once about this guy who was looking for a girlfriend: "Please, please don't laugh at him, the only thing he has ugly is the body and the face" 😂😂😂😂😂
But my point is: we don't talk long about appearances or really criticise the physical defects a person might have: big nose, small eyes, very curly hair like the Africans, no... we don't do that, because those are features a person cannot change and in my country plastic surgery is not so popular. We tend to talk more about clothes and losing weight, and make-up, and what you could do to make yourself look better. And we tend to say it too the person directly, as giving a good advise. I think we don't bully people for their looks, at least not maliciously, like I have seen in Asian television in general.
So, in conclusion, because I feel a little bit related, I also live trying to lose 5 kilos all my life, or simply with low self steem because my hair is a mess and I have little, or because of this and that... I actually have rarely felt bullied because of my appearance. It is me alone who is suffering the low self steem by myself. 😐
So I thought I would give this drama a shot. Just that now I don't have time... 😒

- I really love that Seung-hyo has a happy family life. His interaction with his parents cracked me up. There's goodness in him that I think will come out more as the drama progresses (or so I hope).
- That scene between Seung-hyo and the creepy Chairman gives me chills. Wow, major shady character right there.
- The puppy kills me with his tongue lolling out. So cute. Urg. <3 I don't know who's cuter, Cho Seung-woo or the puppy.
- I'm all for on board for the No-eul and Seung-hyo ship. Too precious.
- Seon-woo! Precious and strong Seon-woo! He has had a rough week with the confrontation with the deputy director AND that confession at the end of ep 8, which we all know won't end well.
Sigh... that's all, folks. Thanks for letting me rant a little bit about this show as we wait for Monday-Tuesday to come. :)

I'll take both, thank you.
My heart was in my mouth when Seon-woo confessed to No-eul. Gaaaaah! Things would never be the same again, would it? But he's probably been crushing or in love with her for years.
I like the way they are bringing romance into this show quite naturally. I don't know if No-eul or Seung-hyo ship will sail, it could turn out like FOS.
Is it just me? I use Seung-hyo's personal assistant Ms Kang as clue to what kind of person he really is. I feel that she wouldn't work for someone who is rotten at the core.

I think Seon-woo definitely needs to do that. Things won't be the same, but that is crucial for their relationship to grow. I can't wait to see how the confession scene turns out next week.
I agree! But my shipper's heart lives on in hope. Hahaha I love that No-eul and Seung-hyo are equals in this relationship, whatever it turns out to be.
It's not just you. Their interactions definitely speak volumes about who he is. Thinking back on the small moments like when Seung-hyo shot back at the other CEO when he mocked Ms. Kang for gaining weight, or when he told her to just exercise instead of taking those diet pills without judgement, or when he listened to her reactions after confronting the cancer center chief about the medication error and acted accordingly, AND how she waited outside the Chairman's office for him in ep 8, their relationship is based on mutual respect and care for another. I really want to know more about Seung-hyo's past working at the company before he got to where he is now.

@tacourtn and @1tea1 I agree ... Nine, Nine Times Travel was one heck of a good time travel show. It was so different and interesting and nerve-wracking. There was a time limit to effect changes and so much hope for a different 'present-future'... and of course, trying to play god had its consequences. Righting the present became the overriding goal. So good!!!

Kim Hye-eon (45) who appears as Kim Hee-sung's mother in Mr. Sunshine had an interview shooting for a magazine picture. I like this actress, so I looked her up too. [OSEN, Wiki, yoorajun] She started acting in 2007, and appeared in movie like Nameless Gangster, and in dramas including Secret Love Affair, Introverted Boss, Live Up to Your Name, Radio Romance, and Are You Human Too.
About Mr. Sunshine, Kim said the set atmosphere of Mr. Sunshine was great. "From my experience, team atmosphere is directly related to success of a project. Mr. Sunshine was a project you had to take without hesitation. Top-notch writer, director and actors- It was honor to be in such project." She worked as vocalist and weathercaster before stepping into acting by doing a cameo in a drama, and that was over 10 years ago. When choosing a project, Kim considers people as the most important deciding factor. "I think I check the people I am supposed to work with, more than a project itself. I avoid people who only concern about money. There are many people like that in this industry, but I've done well in avoiding such people."
For an actor who she could work best with in Mr. Sunshine, she picked Byun Yo-han(Hee-sung) right away. "He is a person who grew up very well. Could I say you can feel this healthy soul image from him? He is excellent human being as well as an excellent actor. Since Yo-han acted so well, I thought I would feel sorry if I couldn't match his acting as his mom." Kim said she has dinner frequently with junior actors like Gong Seong-yeon and Park Hwan-hee who she worked together in "Are you Human Too" (she played Shin's aunt), in addition to Byon Yo-han. "I talk with them a lot not to be old. Since there is such thing as trend in everything, I have to get tips on what young people talk about. Actually I get lots of ideas from them."
Kim graduated majoring vocal music in Seoul university. "I started to sing since when I was 4. One of the reason I quit being vocalist was that I questioned if I had to live in the industry for all my life. While I realized my own limit, as a student, I saw dishonest, unfair and unjust side in the vocal music world. When I was junior in the college, I left to do the training in Julliard in US. At one point, my ear opened and I realized I couldn't become a successful soprano. I realized "there is something you can't do even if you try". Because I worked my hardest, I could give up rather easily."

Kim worked as a weathercaster in MBC (She decided to become an announcer after watching an announcer speaking using certain breathing method in TV), but it was not an easy job. "For example, if the piece had the subject of fall leaves, I had to climb to the mountain top with high heels, and when there was heavy snow in Gangwon province, I had to do the shoots for hours in waist deep snow. If there were NG while filming, my body became almost frozen. I lived like that for 4 years without even having holiday break, so I think I got exhausted in body and mind." And she was married to her husband who was dentist. She met him in a blind date. Kim said when she first met him she thought he was not her type and he had dry humor. Her husband Kim In-soo: "I asked a designer whom I used to know to set me up for a blind date and met Kim Hye-eun that way. As soon as I saw her, I thought "My wife just walked in." (Here is kdrama moment) Kim said "As I prepared for the wedding, I got wavered and told him I couldn't marry him. That was the day I was supposed to visit his home. Then he left tearing up. I followed him with worry. He walked into the road and looked like going toward cars so I cut him and got on my knees. Even though my face was known and it was crowded GanNam street, I got on my knees. He asked "Are you doing to do whatever I asked you to do?" Her husband Kim said he didn't try to kill himself that time. He just wanted to get fresh air because he felt dizzy when she said she couldn't get married. "She ran to me and got on her knees. So I thought it was the perfect time to get an upper-hand."
Kim couple had hard time(even considering divorce) while trying to have a baby. She resigned from MBC in 2004, and it was because she got sick due to stress and also wanted to concentrate on having a baby. She had her daughter soon after. As for a new career, she said she thought it was hard to predict her life after 45 working as weathercaster. As she watched actress Na Moon-hee, Kim Hae-sook, or Kim Hye-ja in the station, she thought the only people who could beat the time in that area is "Actors". One time she got an offer for a cameo in "Woman I want to marry" as Myung Se-bin's friend. Kim said it was just for 1 episode, but number increased to 6 eps, and to do well, she went to acting school. "Acting was very fun and felt like I could see a vision inside me for the first time. Acting is introspection on a person. And I like acting and broadcast because there are viewers and audiences. You can see the result as much as you try, and the power in the media is viewers alone. That makes me feel at ease.".

She had 3 year break to study acting. Her husband was dead against her becoming an actress. Then she was recognized after playing CEO in the movie "Nameless Gangster" (2012). "He even said there was no way he could marry me if I were an actress. But after the movie "Nameless Ganster", he changed. Until then I listened to him as to which project I could pick. But after the movie, I was able to voice my opinion. Now he is the one who supports me the most."
Kim added, "In the movie there was a bed scene with Choi Min-sik. I was ok, but I think my husband was very bothered. He didn't come to movie premiere saying he was scared. Also when he watched the drama Secret Affair (Kim Hee-ae and Yoo Ah-in), the scene I appeared first was a bed scene with a young man. He was shocked watching me lying on the hotel bed. "Were you really naked?" He was so shocked that it startled me, and when I said no, he said "Oh I see" and went back to concentrate on the show. It was funny."
She is more known for her strong characters to the viewers. "Actually as an actress, a strong character is more attractive because it has more history behind it. Many times villains are not evil without a reason. There is situation to drive him that way, like lacking affection/attention when he was growing up, painful past, etc. That means there are many things you can act about, so I love strong characters." Her husband: "Actually my wife is angel inside."
For a role she wants to play, Kim said "Melo/romance". "I want a story which can tell the value of middle age people's love. Not just good looking young man and woman's love is beautiful. "It is irrational, still love", "It is irrational, still melo"- I would like to do such genre. She is currently working in an OCN drama playing a villain role and said "To express absolute bad, you must know good first. Regardless of my character, it can be good study on myself. Actor is an occupation you can challenge for lifetime having value."

Kim also mentioned people's prejudice concerning roles she played. "My daughter's school friends' parents bad-mouthed talking about my role. When I heard about it, I felt like my heart was torn out. I felt hurt thinking there were still people who had uncivilized ideas, and wondered if I had to stop acting until my child grew up." She was worried if her daughter felt hurt. "I said "If you don't want me to do acting, I can give up being an actress forever." but my daughter said, "Mom, It is wrong idea just some people have, and it does not make sense if you give up your life because of that." I cried a lot at that. My daughter- the way of her thinking is healthy and strong. I wish she grows up like Kim Tae-ri character in Mr. Sunshine."
Oh I love this actress- She has this strong glare fitting a villain role.

She’s an amazing actress. Although it must get annoying frequently play less-than-nice characters. But she’s so good in these roles. And I love what she said about quitting if her daughter wanted her to, and her daughter understanding her. That was so selfless. I enjoy seeing her in my screen. Thank you for this.

btw Did anyone watch Mr. Sunshine press conference done in June? I only watched a video clip on the part where five leads talked about the subject "Mr. Sunshine- That is you!" First question on this subject was who the mood maker on the set was. Kim Min-jung and Lee Byung-hun pointed at Kim Tae-ri (KMJ said KTR is cheery, cute and childlike). And the other three(KTR, YYS, BYH) pointed at LBH. They said Lee is unexpectedly talkative and jokester. The other question might be the most attractive character (That part was cut) and Lee Byung-hun's part was cut (I assume he picked Byun Yo-han/Hee-sung.) Kim Tae-ri picked Hina/Kim Min-jung. She said Hina is sexy and attractive. She also said Kim Min-jung's wink-not-wink is so pretty that she tried to imitate.
Yoo Yeon-seok picked Ae-shin. He said watching her running around on the rooftops, he felt she looked cool. He said he envied when she covered her face for her sniper job, because she doesn't have to do make-up. Yoo mentioned when he worked on the drama "Romantic doctor", he didn't have to do the make-up in surgery scenes- which was nice. lol
Kim Min-jung picked Hee-sung. She said watching Hee-sung in the show, she felt he was very attractive- bringing woman's protective instinct out and making her heart flustered.
Byun Yo-han picked Ae-shin. In addition to her looking cool, he said he wanted to do a love-line with (Lee Byung-hun) sunbae-nim. Everyone said What?!! He said as a junior, it was very hard to act with such senior because he felt so burdened and uneasy, so he thought if he did a love-line, he might feel easier.
Lee Byung-hun said Byun said "I wish I had a love-line with sunbae-nim" a few days before. He said he wondered what Byun meant and couldn't sleep well for a few days thinking about it. heh
So no one picked Eugene or Dong-mae? Poor Dong-mae!
Anyway Lee Jung-hyun who played Japanese officer Tsuda became celebrity having interviews everywhere. Especially with Korean independence day (8/15) this week he was even more in the spot light. So "Mr. Sunshine - that is you!" for this week is certainly Lee Jung-hyun.

I saw a Beanie posted "OCN confirms that #RyuDeokHwan will star in OCN’s upcoming drama #GodsQuiz5" in fan wall. He was such a cute judge in "Miss Hammurabi", wasn't he?
Ryu Deok-hwan (31) had an interview after "Miss Hammurabi"-his first drama after the army duty.[OSEN] He played Jung Bo-wang (Information king). MH gained 5.3% viewer ratings in the final episode and also received the compliment as 'well-made drama'. MH was half pre-production. The show's filming finished early and they had the wrap-up party before it finished airing. "Thanks to after-party, I met other actors first time in one and a half months. I thought I would feel awkward, but I was very happy. Looking at staffs being all happy to see and talk to each other nicely, I thought I had fun filming with nice people."
Ryu happened to read the writer Moon Yoo-seok's autobiography while he was in the army. "I didn't know it was the writer's at first. It was really fun and I wanted to meet the writer. Army is system which in part is not humane. Even though they are nice human being, people are divided by ranks, we had to walk on eggshells and I was judged only by ranks not as a person Ryeo Duk-hwan. It is period you forget the social life you were accustomed to for almost 30 years, but when you get finally adjusted to new life, only thing you think about is the ranks. Everybody wanted to leave and wanted to have a leave, and human love was lost having this purpose only. I wanted to go on vacation, I wanted to stop digging. I need to recover my humane love and the interest in human. While living like that, I received the offer for this role. Ho-wang is a person who loves people and was very social. I thought if I play the character who was afraid to talk to save himself but grew up as meeting good people, I might be able to fill the part I couldn't fill for 2 years of army duty." He added, "I have fear on drama media. My thought was "Can I do well?" I didn't know Miss Hammurabi was pre-production when I decided. The reason I chose the show was because of my successor in the army. Three months before I finished my duty, I started to work with maknae(youngest). He was fascinated about meeting an entertainer during his army duty. He must have had many things to ask. But after much thought he said "Sargent Ryu Deok-hwan, I will be happy if I could see you in the TV." Somehow that hit me in the heart. I am a person working in the entertainment world for public, but I used to do something I like or I want to do. But as living with people outside of the industry for 2 years, I started to notice things. Shouldn't I bravely take one step forward, giving up certain things while still doing something I want to do? I thought I should join in various places, make choice a little wider, a little more confidently- and that is what I am trying." He still keeps in touch with his army people. Ryu said when he talked with his maknae, all he talked about was "Is Lee...

Rye said he also had a dream he was doing his army duty even after he was done. "I took a trip and when I came back, there was text message from (Go) Kyung-pyo (Strongest Delivery man). Recently you are allowed to do video calls in the army during free time. Somehow, this feature only worked with Go. It was on the airplane and I thought "I have to contact him when I reach Korea" and fell asleep, and had dream about doing the army duty. I felt scared and thought "I have not gotten over it." I still talk about my army duty when I drink. I wonder if I keep talking about it even after I get old or when I have a son. Seems that you never get over your army duty."
Rye said he did shoots without any difficulties. "People have different point of view, but they accepted and understood each other. I acted without feeling burdened because they trusted me and let me do whatever I wanted to do. I might thought set environment was changed because I felt awkward. Maybe I had prejudice because people say "When you leave the army duty, that happens". Also In a way I didn't look matched with Lee Elija outwardly, and Bo-wang and Do-yeon characters have conflicts in ranks, but them meeting despite their differences was delightful. I am happy I could do melo/romance. I could look ok with such great visual person (Lee Elija) and that gave me courage."
Lee Elija mentioned in her previous interview she was happy doing a melo acting with Ryu Deok-hwan. Rye: "I acted having fun with Lee Elija. The show felt heavy due to the subjects they dealt with, and there were sensitive cases. Love story was not main, but just showed up a little when people could feel stifled by the society situations, so I think people viewed us favorably." He added, "I am happy when I meet a good partner. I have weakness acting with actresses, but Lee Elija was easy-going like a boy and playful unexpectedly. We played jokes a lot on the set, but once she acted, she immersed in Do-yeon character, and kept asking me if she was doing ok. She also tended to say "Thanks" and "Sorry" without hesitation." Rye read "A person who has right to be beautiful and graceful." as definition of an actress when he studied the theater in school. "The right to use her beauty- how many people could say Beauty as 'right' I wonder, but I think actress could and that is why they are difficult people to me." -which explains his "Actress heart-Woozy symptom". "I like both Jiwon- Uhm Ji-won(Distorted with Namgoong Min) and Ye Ji-won(30but17) noona. They are the people who sticks to their-self firmly. They don't change. They are the people who can make aegyo out of even their mistakes, and I think they are really cool actresses."

Ryu played a judge friend of Im ba-reum played by Kim Myung-soo/L. He said he knew Kim because Kim was his school junior. "He is ridiculously good-looking. Even looking from a male point of view, he puts me in daze. He has good personality and treat other people well. He also jokes and cute. I think I made a good dongsaeng(younger brother). He exactly knew what his worry and burden were, and was honest about them. Not only he did well on the part as the lead, he was a type who knew his place. The reason I want to keep good relationship with juniors is because I myself met many good hyungs. I have never approached them first and not good at maintaining good relationship, but they took care of me well. So now I want to approach them first." The first good hyung he met was PD Jang Jin. "No 1 is Jang Jin director-nim. He planted solid idea about movie media, and the definition of actor, and gave me advice like father. Also as meeting Jung Jae-young, Sin Ha-kyun, and Park Hae-il hyung, I learned a lot about the life as an actor. Hyung who taught me humane coolness is Joo Ji-hoon and Kim Jae-wook. Especially Kim Jae-wook sends article titles to me who doesn't check the articles and comments, and teases me a lot." Ryu said he also doesn't not monitor his acting. "One time while monitoring, I realized I was looking at my wrinkled clothing, not my acting. Since then I stopped monitoring. Also I felt embarrassed to look at my own acting."
He debuted in 1992 MBC's "TV kindergarten BboBboBbo"- that was 27 years ago. "There is good and bad points having acted since I was young. I met PD Jang Jin in "Don't ask family" and took the chance thinking "I should take this path" . The bad thing is that I found out too early and thought I knew a lot. I used to act with Choi Bul-am, Kim Hye-ja, Kim Soo-mi sunsaeng-nim. Even though we call them sunsaeng-nim(teachers) now (They seem to call old senior "sunsaeng-nim, and less older senior "sunbae-nim"), but they were my ajussi, ajumma, and grandma. Because I spent time with them for about 10 years, I thought the path I was taking was always right. But there are things I realized late and regret and want to improve."
His main project has been OCN's God's Quiz. It started 2010 and had season 4 in 2014. He was first noted in 'Like a virgin' when he was 19, where he showed incredible acting. "I acted when I didn't know what the acting was. I was too young, and I only remember I fought with director-nim. How such young brat could know anything? But I was 19 and thought there was an answer only a person with that age could think of. I fought with a conviction I could feel at that age. After that, my attitude changed to "Let's do without thinking too much. I just do the shoots without worrying." The project 'Like a Virgin' is like a diary to me showing my growing up process. I had that image for a long time. This time I thought when people think "What is Ryu Deok-hwan's image after...

"What is Ryu Deok-hwan's image after his army duty?" it would be good if it could be God's Quiz. I am close to the writer Park Jae-bum and many hyung who produce, but a show can't be made just because some people want. Also I am worried if they would replace me."
Ryu Deok-hwan -I loved him in 'Faith'(King Gongmin) the most. I remember to read him saying once he was worried about his height (5' 4") as an actor (since just about every actor is very tall), but he thought how great Al Pacino(5' 7") was as an actor despite his height.
And I am glad to hear about army life a little. No wonder some people trying to avoid going if possible.

I finally finished Prison Playbook although ep 14 nearly kept me from being able to do so. Still, I knew there were circumstances that needed to wrap up and, of course, not "everyone dies" so to speak at the end of a drama. I really liked it. Now, I'm watching ep 15 of Life on Mars and it too will wrap up soon. What a cool way to tell a story. I want to write something as engaging, creative, and k-actor lovable. Where to begin?? Seventeen but Thirty and Let's Eat 3 are my current favorites, with Your Honor and Gangnam ID both needing something this week to keep my interest. So, I'm not watching anything currently airing yet or recently ended..(i still need to watch my mister, 30but17, AYHT, etc. it will be 2019 before i catch up!). But i am just finishing SLA(Secret Love Affair) with Yoo Ah In/Kim Hee Ae. First, I have to say, Yoo Ah In is gorgeous and a great actor! He emotes SO well. I'm usually a Gong Yoo stan, but my goodness! *fans self* The music swept me away and had me reminiscing about my HS bf who played the cello and would often play for me over phone calls. The directing and acting is so good and the passion they showed in scenes with no lines was breathtaking. They truly ruined me for other dramas. I think i may need to take a hiatus from the fluff dramas and watch some mature ones (for a brief moment, i watch these to escape so not too serious!)
Since there's a lot of buzz around 30but17 I may conform and watch that next. Idk. On one hand, I want to try watching a historical drama(s) for the first time.

Hi all:
Got caught up on familiar wife. Liking it although our male mc is so self-willed. A bit uncomfortable with the story because (even if he was married in the other timeline to female mc) the subtext is "Even if you're married, your true love might be someone else so adultery is okay if it's your destined one." Tons of divorces are based on that premise. Also, by not giving mc and his new wife a family and by removing her musical skills, the story isn't being fair or balanced.
Dropped "Love til the end," the daily on KBS World TV on youtube. Very good but way too stressful. I kept getting angry and panicky.
Gangnam ID -- OMG, are male kids in college that shallow? I understand why oori villainess could become the way she is in such a society but i'd like to see her family life and backstory. Wonder what she bought at the pharmacy.
Your Honor. Loving this and the second lead guy is sooo good. I'm glad he finally has a great lovestruck role, although i'm sure he's planning disastrous vindictive stuff. I can't see either of the twins being judges by the end. Hoping the anchorwoman keeps the thug brother's secret when she finds out.
Life -- OMG! Love, love, love! This reminds me of the Jdrama business genre. Am learning so much about how hospitals can become financial meccas for the rich investors.
Witch's Love. Oh dear, oh dear. Good thing i love the male lead because i don't think the destined one is gonna win the girl this time. Would be a first that the kind friend from childhood isn't the one who gets the girl.
Dropped Mr Sunshine because it was getting too predictable.
Voice2. Love it. I need a thriller.

Have a great weekend, all.

From your viewing list, I've only recently started watching Your Honor, but three episodes in, I'm not sure whether to continue with it or not as I'm finding the main lead overacting in a way that the role doesn't call for. I think YSY is trying two things that are challenging him: to differentiate the twins and to work on his acting chops. This is his Ji Sung moment and so i cut him a lot of slack. until he gets it right. Trying to play a wise ass street guy is tough on some actors and they fall into mimicry but he's trying to grow this skill in public and comedy is hard so I'm urging him on.
