Beanie level: The Goblin’s underpants

I just finished Angel’s Last Mission, and I need to throw into the universe something I haven’t seen mentioned in the recaps. (See comment)

There is a really critical difference between the two angel’s relationships with God and the nature of their loves. Dan never falters from wanting to serve God and love Yeon-Seo. He doesn’t really mean that he’ll leave God; he only says that once in frustration. If we follow Judeo-Christian, it is not a sin to be angry at God, as long as we take it to God. (See: Book of Job).
From the beginning Dan wanted to sacrifice for Yeon-Seo, unlike Kang-Woo. Kang-Woo loved his girl, but never wrestled with sacrificing himself. He just decided to leave God; there was no real supplication, just a demand. Thus he was punished with separation from God. Dan, in displaying true sacrificial love, showed that he loved humans like God does, and was granted his prayer.
I mean, there is a lot to be desired in the way the writer showed the mythology. I’m not sure if the writer got rushed, or was under pressure to make things happen in a certain way from director/producers, but I think she was clearer in her mythology than came through on screen.

Agreed. I always thought that KW’s sin wasn’t falling in love with a human, but rather pride.

Not saying this is me … but it could be in fifteen years or so when my girl’s old enough.

I couldn’t help shuddering when this came back on screen.
The answer is no.

I got off vibes from our neighborhood book designer during that meeting with Eun Ho and now he\’s alarming my creep-o-meter. (I loved Eun Ho stepping in to stop him making fun of Mr. Kim though)

From what I’ve been reading, you’re not the first one to make this comment. We’ll see what happens!

It may have just been how rude he was to Mr. Kim. Mr. Kim may be silly and slower on the uptake than Eun-Ho, but he is kind and honest, and he’s smart enough to have recruited the right people. He’s done nothing worthy of that kind of meanness.

I read the same comments but I don’t think he’s a bad guy per se, I think he’s probably a child whose father abandoned them. Which made him grow into a bitter adult. If he only has rumors to help him figure out what happened, without his father to tell the truth what else would he have, he feels he has the right to treat Mr. Kim like that. It doesn’t help that no one at Mr. Kim’s company wants to talk about what happened.

I\’m loving #RomanceIsABonusBook so far. The relationships seem layered and the characters worth knowing. I actually like both legs of both love triangles, I think I could be happy with either pairing.

Welcome back Erin! It feels like I have not seen you forever on DB!!

It’s been awhile. I had some personal tragedy that took me away from dramas for awhile but I think I’m back!

Man, is Soo-Ah seriously going to try that? No wonder my stomach turns.

You can tell which is which even with a happy OriShin. (I kinda had to rewatch a few times, to steel myself for what was coming.)

Kudos to Seo Kang Joon for doing such a superb acting job and making viewers feel the difference between the 2 👌🏻👌🏻 I haven’t even watch the drama, but even just from the 2 screenshots, I can definitely see and FEEL the difference 😁

Such a mood from Ro Ra. Bye Nam Shinssssss.

(And it’s so true, both smiles are very lovely but very different. Seeing them both happy together was a) my wish and b) absolutely like seeing two distinct people happy. Thanks for making me believe, SKJ!)

Okay, show. I have cried enough tears for our RoboShin. (Like when he went to Dad because he thought everyone else would hate him?) Happy endings and ass kickings from here on out, deal?

That part broke me. He was so lost.
And when he was saying goodbye to SoBong – it was like he knew she’d come after him.

My eyes are rolling out of my head. Seriously. What is wrong with people like this? (Drama is Sweet Combat, but character is in so many…)

3

Right?!?!?!?!?! Why on earth do you want to be with someone who doesn’t want to be with you?? Yeah, it might hurt for a bit while you get over them, but surely that’s better than a lifetime of misery!

(Of course, my unwillingness to push through may be the reason I am an old maid . . . )

I wonder sometimes if it is cultural too. Because in western entertainment people like that are portrayed as outright crazy, but in Asian dramas they are portrayed as normal. I also cannot fathom why a person would want to be with someone who doesn’t love them to the point of harassment and schemes. It’s a key point of conflict in a lot of dramas.

    1
    1

I know. I get the “you don’t like me, but I’ll still like you quietly until it wears off” schtick, but not this.
Though in Western media adulterers/cheaters are often shown as romantic heroes/heroines, so maybe we just use the same trope differently? I’ll have to give it some thought.

At the risk of AYHT going completely off the rails, this week has cemented for me that certain shows need to be pre-produced to look good. Imagine if Hwayugi had this kind of time to do the CGI!

Poor guy. Feeling the confusion of every man.
Though how can you help falling for this guy, even knowing he’s a robot?????

Long shot, but how about Turd Hyung start supporting his family instead of making it all about him?
Nope, he\’s gonna find a way to make it all about him and his suffering. Please surprise me WWWSK.

13
8

But he wouldn’t be Turd hyung if he started doing that 😀

    1
    1

True. But between Turd Hyung and Ye-Na in Are You Human Too? I fear for my laptop screen’s safety. I just want to bat* them away.
*Or punch them, hard, so they disappear into a coma for the remainder of the drama.

Alternate opinion: He is portrayed as the elder sibling who is ignored. In such cases the individual tries to get more attention when he is going through a hard time

    0
    1

I don’t disagree, I just don’t like that behavior. Drives me crazy, especially since he’s being so manipulative of Min So, going so far as to help trigger her trauma. At some point in life, you need to get over yourself.

      0
      1

No offence but how did he help trigger her trauma??

        0
        1

By insisting that she engage with his false memories and tell him what happened, in a public place. The other times they spoke about it (that didn’t bother me) was in daylight, without many people around, and he didn’t ask as intrusive a question.

          1
          2

To be clear, I don’t think he did it intentionally. He was so self-absorbed (not necessarily without reason) that he failed to take into account that she may be experiencing similar trauma. He didn’t clock her obvious refusal to discuss it at that time.
I’m not sure the magician show would have brought the memories back if he hadn’t primed her to be thinking about the kidnapping and opened that memory door. Surely it couldn’t have been her first time seeing a similar show.

Go Eric! Do what you’re good at and nail this b*tard to the wall, b/c you’re clearly not meant for gayageum. (Haven’t finished the ep. yet so I hope I’m not jinxing myself!)

12
4

    Is it ep21 or ep22??!

    1
    1

So, I never got beyond ep. 14, but I second your opinion that Eric is not meant for gayageum… Just thinking about how he held the hand-plane upside down in front of cameras and then ordered the footage deleted still makes me laugh.

I just wish the elders would accept him within his strengths. Maybe he’ll never play, but he cares about the music and has the business smarts to promote it.

I think I\’m going to have to put off Our Husband for a couple of days. I just can\’t handle SJ\’s family after a rough week, even with JD as a delicious carrot. Enjoying vicariously through the Wall 🤪

@librarianerin—When you’re ready, you will be rewarded with a sweet taste of Schadenfreud. The brother is getting thoroughly schooled by his future brother-in-law. Even better, bratty Bang Jung-Mi is turning out to be the best (worst) daughter-in-law for Mom. That girl bites back!

    3
    1

At least the character’s being useful in that sense! I always skip her parts because I really can’t deal with her. It’s nice to read “mom” is having a difficult time, though!

    Noooooo, we are here together!
I hope your weeks will be a lot better so you can cheering uri husband again. *Hugs*

I am torn … is this dude really that evil, or is it an elaborate plot to get Seung-Joo back on the documentary? He’s such a manipulative SOB that I can see both sides.

3
2

Heh. I hadn’t occurred to me that he could be using reverse psychology to bring her back! That said, he should know her well enough not to threaten someone she cares about. *rubs hands gleefully*

    1
    1

We know he’ll go down. He’s not been stupid up until this point, though, and he knows SJ really well, so he knows what threatening her loved ones will do. So my conclusion is that he’s either super guilty and looking to destroy himself using her (similar to what ended up happening to her), or he’s gone off the deep end into evil betrayal category.

When you really want to catch up on #LionPride, but the villain is making your blood pressure rise before bed and you have to stop … Just give me back my cute couples and leave him offscreen!

Sort of powering through the penultimate episode right now. Kind of using it as background noise while I check Instagram and get ready for tomorrow. Hopefully the cute will be back in the last episode. I literally don’t even care about this stupid backstory anymore.

    3
    3

*cough* it will be back *cough*

      2
      1

…I watched 50 minutes of the episode and basically just glanced up every once in a while and they’re still whinging on about whether Qingda’s dad was a bad cop, and Qingwei mat have had some sort of epiphany? I don’t actually know, but honestly, it’s almost over anyway, so maybe the last 20 minutes will make sense whenever I get to them.

There had better be A LOT of cute in the last episode.

        3
        1

tbh, it really did get draggy. there could be some parts where should be edited out to give the story a better ending. you will know what i mean once you get to the last episode.

          1
          0

That’s the episode I’m on! Powering through. I don’t mind the backstory worn it’s the main characters, but Side and Qiangwei falling for that list makes my blood boil.

I’m on episode 12, in the middle of the cute. Alas, episode 12 will wait until Tuesday as everyone is home for the 4 day weekend. It’ll give everyone a break from the spam I post.

      2

I wish I didn’t move from that episode. The road to ending is hard.

          You’re scaring me.

          1
          2

Don’t be too scared — it’s just doing that thing that almost all Taiwanese dramas do where everyone is being overly stupid and angsty for like an episode and a half, and they’ve all lost the logical reasoning part of their brains. I’m gonna finish up now, because I’ve been promised that the cute will be back, so I can ignore the dumb part.

            3
            0

Sorry, disn’t mean to do that. Yes, it’s the taiwanese way.

Sorry…my iPad went crazy for a while. What I meant to type is “this scene will never not be funny every time I see it on the fan wall 😂” maybe Aji 3 took over my iPad control for one second 😆

I know I saw a bit of it on the fan wall awhile ago, but it just didn’t do it justice. I was totally unprepared for the deadpan hilariousness.

I\’m thinking the only healthy relationships are those with contracts … maybe it\’s something about the communication? They\’re looked at as weird, but they both seem like the ones who\’ll last.

I think you are onto something here, maybe parents should do so with their children 😆 Something great about clearly stated rules and expectations

    8

This may sound weird, but this is why I think pre-nups are so practical; they can lay the relevant information out before marriage and show people what they’re getting into. It’s not very romantic, but most of life isn’t. But if you’re up front about things like money etc. you’ll probably have fewer problems down the line. But this could just be the pragmatic lawyer in me talking…

Contract marriages are basically this on crack in my mind. But with shenanigans to make them fun.
