@acaia,
Congratulations. We have 15 of your 28 dramas in common and I can’t argue with 1, 2 and 3. I have not seen MY UNFAMILIAR FAMILY.
I did watch and enjoy MISSING and it has moved up among my favorites of 2021. I haven’t put my list together yet. I am really enjoying KAIROS. The writing and acting have been superb.
I just started THE UNCANNY COUNTER and love what I have seen so far. TUC has one degree of separation from MYSTIC POP UP BAR (Yeom Hye-ran) (another favorite) and will probably be my last bean that is if it qualifies to be considered a 2020 drama with 10 of its 16 episodes airing in 2020.
Lol. I meant to put in a little defense for Lee Jae-wook. Please don’t hold LJW personally responsible for DO DO’s spectacular crash landing of an ending.
I don’t hold it against him at all. He really did try his best with what the script gave him. I trusted the writer because I adore Shopping King Louie… but she really failed a lot of beanies this year
I’m happy to report that my top 7 for the year are the same as yours, although I’d shuffle them around slightly! (FoS2 tops in mine). I didn’t watch too many more, though…
FOS2 ep13-14 really blew me out of the water as many other beanies have stated. And as others have stated, I too was feeling a bit disappointed during the first 12 episodes because nothing really seemed to make sense. There were so many cases going on with no resolution. And even for the cases that did have a “resolution” something didn’t feel satisfying about their ends. It was always a “so what, what does this mean?”
BUT I’m so glad it was this way because for once, we know more or less as much as the main characters of this drama know! We’re so used to crime/procedural dramas where we’re given who the antagonist is early on in the drama and we just watch the protagonists try to figure out what we have already been given. Thankfully, LeeSooYeon has the backing of fans and reputation of the first season to let her try something like this where something didn’t need to be revealed so early on and we can join in on the hunt and reveal. Season 1 did something similar but there was Lee Chang Joon while Season 2, there wasn’t an outright antagonist to look out for. It made things frustrating but we got to join in on the frustration that probably Shimok and YeoJin were facing too.
I wish this video showed the whole confession but but this is a translation of a comment from this video that was interesting because it was written in JoonYoung’s perspective. As a man of few words, I could totally see this being his thought process throughout the confession scene, and I needed to share it with you all ❤️❤️❤️
송아가 등돌리고 짐싸서 가려니까 고백 “좋아해요”
Songah turned her back and packs her stuff to leave so I confessed “I like you” (formal)
송아가 놀라 쳐다보니 고백날 처럼 길막하고 아컨하고 다시한번 말해줄게 “좋아한다구요”
Astonished, Songah looks at me so I block her way, I’ll say it again “I said like you” (formal)
송아는 주춤주춤물러서지만 이건 너에게 전하는 내 마음이야 “좋아해” (informal)
Songah slowly backs away but this is me sending my real feelings to you “I like you”
송아의 그렁그렁한 눈을 보며 송아정신차리길 기다린 후에 내 마음 다 털었어. “좋아해요”
Looking at Songah’s eyes brimming with tears, I wait for her to calm down, then I pour out my heart to her “I like you” (formal)
송아 두번고백을 네번으로 갚은 박준영
Repaying Songah’s two confessions with four
This is the reason why I wish the English translated to more than just “I like you”. As I already mentioned on my fanwall, there was just so many levels to what he said. So glad you posted this.
During that scene the director and actors decide to the edge of the bench and kiss. They agree to give pecks back and forth once and theyre given free range, and it looks like they adlib the rest and Nana adlibs all her lines!! Cuteeeee ❤️
I cried so much at the end of Ep 14 with Jang Nara that I hope Ep 15 will have some turnaround development – as opposed to what the preview seems to suggest.
That ending scene crushed me so much. Jang Nara’s beautiful tears are so powerful. I’m really hoping it’s a fake out like the preview for ep 14 was 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’m glad they touched on the topic of adoption even if it were for a short time. If they choose to go through with adoption later on, at least we will know it will be a choice and not an alternative.
This show caught me in all kinds of moods and feelings. As a woman who once struggled with the difficulty of having children because my then-husband was unable to conceive. At that time adoption was really the only option for us.
And for me when my son was placed in my arms it was a TOTAL GIFT!!! So I have to take issue with that statement.
But everything else was spot on. period.
Also glad that adoption was mentioned – as it has been the common question among the viewers. And I’m glad that Ha Ri actually considered it too, even when she did so off-screen. 😅
I love how these last two episodes (Ep 11 and 12) are littered with contemplative lines like this as HaRi sorts through options and changes -what means to an end or is that the only end?
Great drama watching!
And I seriously think a miracle is on the way with all the loops, switch and turn to make that get-together happen.
Jang Nara is killing it! Hari is so bold and so strong!! She’s not afraid to show her feelings and tell it like it is. Now you better do the same YiSang!!
It’s rare to find a drama that knows how to pace itself and have a satisfactory ending. This was a crime drama where good and evil was clear yet there was a twist in almost every episode. The general theme of nature versus nurture is prevalent in many dramas but this was one that didn’t explicitly state it and instead showed it in the best way possible. Also, I love how there was a strong focus on the relationships of Cha YoungJin: with the younger Go EunHo as pictured below, her past friend SooJung, her mentor HwangInBum, and her faithful coworkers.
Lastly, Go EunHo… you have my whole heart. I realize you are an unrealistically precious character but you truly are the puppy of 2020 for me.
Thank you Writer Kim EunHyang and Director Lee JungHeum!!! I will look forward to your future works!!
Delighted to see more Beanies join the NK fan club 🙂 I’m not familiar with the work of either the director or the writer, but absolutely correct, they’re worth keeping an eye out for in the future!
I love crime/justice types of shows so I picked it up without being familiar with both the director and writer and fell in love with them both. I believe this is a rookie wrier too!
I thought I knew you
I mean I knew you since I can remember
But time passed
We grew up
I saw you always there but I chose to ignore you
I chased after loves that were never returned
So I chased after a career but something still felt empty
When I finally noticed you, I realized
You were there waiting all the time
Did I know you? Did I like you?
The answer to both questions was no
Why?
Because I thought you didn’t deserve it
You had a smile on your face but you always hid your emotions
You were nice to everyone but yourself
You burdened yourself and was okay not being noticed
Why were you the way you were?
I wanted to know
It’ll take some time
But I want to get to know you, like you, maybe love you
Please stay patient with me like you always have
Ahh thank you so much for sharing!
“You were nice to everyone but yourself”
I started this challenge several years ago when I was struggling to feel love, for anyone, leastwise myself. I’ve learned a lot about needing to care for yourself, at the least because yourself is what you offer others. For a long time I was very empty.
Thanks for sharing, for helping us all to feel less alone as we struggle to feel whole and loved. ☺️
Thank YOU! I knew I could write this in DB and be ok sharing this. Everyone is so loving and supportive. Thanks for sharing your side as well, I’m happy to find comrades in the struggle to love ourselves. Love is such a strong word and this is partly why I definitely love DB and all our beanies ❤️
“Know thyself.” Man, the philosopher was right. It takes courage to look at ourselves and ask the questions you are asking. And it’s even harder to write about it and share it. Well done. 👏🏻
THAT ENDING THO. acacia this is l o v e l y. i was loving it as i read it, without knowing what the last line would be, imagining all the various people it could be about. but that ending hit me in the best way. amazing. i love it. (and yaaaaay so glad you joined us for this!)
I didn’t realize how much I liked Coffee Friends until I straight up put citron tea honey in milk to pretend like I was drinking the tangerine milk in Coffee Friends.
Verdict: not half bad but I still want to try/make the tangerine milk.
Fun fact: the name for tangerine milk (우유에 빠진 귤) in Coffee Friends can be literally translated into tangerine dunked in milk OR the tangerine that fell in love with milk.
A comparison of reality vs Coffee Friends for you below
He was irritating at first but the self talk really seems to help him so he got cuter as the episodes passed. One thing that bugs me is his “are you done now” after hearing customer’s orders. It’s weirdly not rude but can be taken as rude
Ohhh… I didnt know that 😅😅😅
His self talk kinda cute to me cause it reminds me so much of my friend who did that whenever she in the new environment and feeling awkward. 🤭🤭🤭
I have to talk aloud to keep myself on track when doing anything complex, otherwise I can get very confused. If I’m in a place where I can’t talk aloud, I whisper.
I usually drink it with hot water too! It was my first time trying it with milk 😊 I’ve never heard of taking it with whiskey before though. Does it work? Lol
It’s not often that writers and directors leave a long message after a drama ends so I decided to translate it for anyone who hasn’t watched this drama. Despite being a scary drama these comments spoke to me (except the last sentence about the peace part) and made me think. A lot of the times we are so quick to put blame on others for the problems in this world but taking initiative and putting some of the weight on ourselves is not a bad thing either.
We sincerely thank all of you who have viewed this drama despite watching such a dark story and spending sleepless nights. -Writers Kwon Sora and Suh Jaewon
Thank you to all who have watched and loved Sohn: The Guest. Sohn: The Guest tried to look at society’s problems in a different perspective. The thought that perhaps all bad things start within people’s hearts is the perspective we tried to portray.
Like the old saying “People are the scariest” we thought, maybe we ourselves are the problem. Like you viewers called YoonHwaPyung Yoon Peace (t/n HwaPyung in Korean is another word for Peace), we made this drama hoping to bring peace into your hearts (t/n wait what??? After scaring us every episode??) Again we thank you for watching our drama. -Director Kim HongSun
Not at all. And it’s so kind of you.
There is a scene in My Ahjussi where IU’s character is in hospital and they are talking about her listening to Park Dong Hoon the whole time.
She says “I liked all the sounds you made, mister.”
@marina
This was alot shorter than i thought it would be, I’m so sorry it’s so late! I wish I did this earlier! Happy belated New Year marina!
아저씨 소리, 다 좋았어요
I liked, all your sounds
아저씨 말, 생각, 발소리…
You words, thoughts, the sound of your footsteps
사람이 뭔지, 첨 본것 같았어요
I feel like I saw what it meant to be a person for the first time.
I’ve decided to only post on dramas that have completed after being completely burned by Ghost Detective… sigh. I rarely post on dramas but tho ones I have posted on (Misty, Ghost Detective) have such terrible endings despite wonderful cast with Ghost Detective definitely being the worst. On that note: The Guest was so awesome. Director and Writer notes will be translated very shortly.
I know how frustrating it can be to be disappointed by drama endings when there was so much promises at the beginnings. But don’t lose hope! There will be another drama which will carry you away, hopefully until the last second! 😉
I feel your pain, I got traumatized with Radio Romance, it’s not that bad, I really liked the OTP but I was so disappointed with the plot and at one point it became a chore to watch it every week. And to think I was so hype and happy watching the 1st few episodes, sigh.
Same… It started off well and I was so excited to see the potential. Choi Daniel and Park EunBin were a plus too. There were hints that the writer didn’t know where she was going with all the plots she was trying to weave in and now I cant get myself to finish the last 5 eps. 😭
Same here! I think it’s a bit ridiculous that he is so sure he’s gone to the dark side. He’s technically a “new” ghost. He can touch things becuase of those “strong emotions” and had two outbursts of “evilness.” He doesn’t even ask if there is a possibility to stay good and just runs off on his own! YeoWool was frustrating in her own but he’s starting to get me frustrated… sighs
I kinda lost interest on yeoWool few weeks back. Don’t know if it’s her character or acting or both.
I am curious about the reporter joining the team.
And I completely don’t get the sister boyfriend. Just like that he went evil? He seems comfortable doing bad things. Even a tad happy.
Hoping I catch up on all episodes this weekend.
Yeah.. It’s hard to redeem YeoWool’s character now. I wish she continued her persistence and quickwittedness of ep 1.
The reporter was really unexpected. I didnt expect him to have a connection with Hye. But yeah.. Gyeol is so weird. It’s hard to understand his perspective. I wont be able to catch up until next week but it looks like there are still twists to come which I’m excited for. The unexpectedness of some parts of the drama is still keeping me with this drama.

I wanted to know
It’ll take some time
But I want to get to know you, like you, maybe love you
Please stay patient with me like you always have
A letter to myself
Love,
February

Well done. 👏🏻

🙂 clearly i am the only one getting irritated with him and worse i hate myself for feeling that way because he is a nice kid
acacia
February 5, 2019 at 2:29 PM
He was irritating at first but the self talk really seems to help him so he got cuter as the episodes passed. One thing that bugs me is his “are you done now” after hearing customer’s orders. It’s weirdly not rude but can be taken as rude
alasecond
February 6, 2019 at 10:49 PM
oh.. its not his self talking that irks me.. just his overall demeanour.. it is very underconfident and confused…
like i fear if i ask him to get a pen from the drawer, he will just get lost in 20X20 room
HANI
February 5, 2019 at 4:20 PM
Ohhh… I didnt know that 😅😅😅
His self talk kinda cute to me cause it reminds me so much of my friend who did that whenever she in the new environment and feeling awkward. 🤭🤭🤭

I have to talk aloud to keep myself on track when doing anything complex, otherwise I can get very confused. If I’m in a place where I can’t talk aloud, I whisper.

With the “calm down” motto they have they at least try to be 😉 but it seems like they found their groove now

We drink it hot and without milk. We have been known to add whiskey and call it ‘medicine’

I usually drink it with hot water too! It was my first time trying it with milk 😊 I’ve never heard of taking it with whiskey before though. Does it work? Lol

Someone should actually make this tangerine syrup and market it in Korea. I bet it would sell like hotcakes! They can donate the proceeds.

I’m not a coffee person so I didnt expect to like this show THAT much. Of the items they have, definitely the tangerine milk takes the cake 😊

And I’d love to know her dialogue in Korean.

And to think I was so hype and happy watching the 1st few episodes, sigh.
acacia
November 2, 2018 at 6:26 PM
Same… It started off well and I was so excited to see the potential. Choi Daniel and Park EunBin were a plus too. There were hints that the writer didn’t know where she was going with all the plots she was trying to weave in and now I cant get myself to finish the last 5 eps. 😭

Yet to catch up on recent episodes. Hope he doesn’t go to the dark side.
acacia
October 19, 2018 at 11:43 AM
Blue (@mayhemf)
October 19, 2018 at 12:55 PM
I kinda lost interest on yeoWool few weeks back. Don’t know if it’s her character or acting or both.
I am curious about the reporter joining the team.
And I completely don’t get the sister boyfriend. Just like that he went evil? He seems comfortable doing bad things. Even a tad happy.
Hoping I catch up on all episodes this weekend.
acacia
October 19, 2018 at 2:46 PM
