My Sweet Mobster: Episodes 9-10

Despite their unspoken mutual feelings for each other, our mobster and his leading lady intend to cut ties and go their separate ways. Our deerlings are not happy with the current state of affairs and take matters into their own hands, but will their cockamamy plans to parent-trap our OTP into starting a relationship be successful? Or will they backfire spectacularly (and hilariously)?

EPISODES 9-10

After hearing Eun-ha tell Ji-hwan that she no longer wanted to seem him, I braced myself for the worst case scenario: a prolonged separation — for me, anything over fifteen minutes — in which our time is spent watching the less-appealing secondary leads try and wedge themselves between our OTP. Turns out, I should have trusted our writers — and our deerlings — because they somehow managed to make the little speedbump in our favorite couple’s relationship not only palatable but downright entertaining. (You know, despite our hearts aching for them to reconcile and be all gosh darn cute again.)

As unwelcome as Eun-ha and Ji-hwan’s temporary separation was, I will begrudgingly admit that it served a purpose and gave our characters the time and space they needed to figure out their priorities. For Eun-ha, her decision to vacate Ji-hwan’s house and put some physical and emotional distance between them was entirely out of self-preservation — and not, as I previously suspected, because Hyun-woo revealed Ji-hwan’s childhood name. Instead, Hyun-woo admitted that, although he’s not the Hyun-woo she’s looking for, he did locate her missing friend. And, if she wanted to meet him, he would tell her his identity.

Eun-ha, remembering Ji-hwan’s previous words that sometimes people do not want to revisit certain memories, declines Hyun-woo’s offer. She feels responsible for leading the bad man (Ji-hwan’s father or one of his henchmen?) to Hyun-woo, and she doesn’t want to intrude on his current happiness if her presence will remind him of an unhappier time. This same thought process is what has her choosing to leave Ji-hwan’s household. If Ji-hwan wants to put up a landlord/tenant wall between them, she will not try to climb over it. No, she will retreat and protect herself before she falls too deeply for a man who has clearly stated he’s not romantically interested in her.

Of course, we all know that’s a big fat lie. He’s head over heels in love with her, and he pushed her away in order to protect her because she will either be physically caught in the crossfire of his enemies’ machinations or be devastated if something ever happened to him. By pushing her away, he thinks he’s protecting her. The problem is, though, when he went and told Eun-ha that she was “just his tenant” he never thought she’d — well, you know — act like a tenant and move out. (cue: shocked Pikachu meme).

Ji-hwan outwardly accepts Eun-ha’s decision, but inside he’s just as distraught as his deerlings, who don’t like to see Mommy and Daddy fighting. Can you blame them, though? They’re rooting for our OTP as much as we are, and they’re here to get us through the temporary separation of our favorite pairing by making us laugh with their parent-trapping antics. We all know Ji-hwan just needs a little shove in the right direction, and that shove comes in the form of our deerlings tricking Ji-hwan into thinking Eun-ha is on a blind date with another man.

The masquerade successfully incites Ji-hwan’s jealousy, and if his judgment wasn’t so clouded, maybe he would have questioned the strangeness of Eun-ha having a blind date on the ground floor of his company’s building before going downstairs to spy on her “date” with one of his more extroverted and flirtatious employees (a.k.a. his complete opposite). Unfortunately, beyond stirring up Ji-hwan’s green-eyed monster, the deerlings’ plan backfires spectacularly. But, on the bright side, watching Ji-hwan wrestle with his jealousy and then get caught (once again) in a seemingly compromising position with Ye-na was priceless.

As amusing as the deerlings’s faux-matchmaking attempt was to watch, there really was no need for them to try to make Ji-hwan jealous because that’s Hyun-woo’s job as the second male lead. And you know what? Even though I’m firmly on Team Ji-hwan — who isn’t? — Hyun-woo earned some brownie points with me this week when he set aside his biases and did his own research into Ji-hwan’s background.

The more he learns about Ji-hwan from Eun-ha, the more willing he’s become to put on his critical thinking cap and explore the possibility that Ji-hwan is not a brutally violent thug. And, after meeting with another witness to the incident at the hotel ten years ago, Hyun-woo confirms that Ji-hwan is not only a good guy but the person responsible for his own father’s incarceration. Unfortunately, it’s Ji-hwan’s sense of justice that has painted a very large target on his back, and now that Ji-hwan’s father has been released from prison, there’s not one but two dangerous men aiming their knives at him.

Although Ji-hwan and Hyun-woo are in agreement that Eun-ha is safer if she stays out of Ji-hwan’s radius, it’s easier said than done, especially when she keeps getting into trouble on her own. Ji-hwan nearly loses his mind with worry trying to find her after she ticks off a group of teenage hoodlums and drops her phone, but he keeps that information to himself when Eun-ha asks him why he would call her twenty times when he thought she was in danger. Instead of revealing how scared he was, he puts his hands in his pockets and nonchalantly explains that he’s just a boy, standing in front of a girl, telling her that he’s only comfortable being alone and keeping everyone at arm’s length. (Oh, Ji-hwan.)

The thing about Ji-hwan that keeps Eun-ha in a constant state of confusion — and questioning whether she should move out or not — is that Ji-hwan’s actions are always at constant odds with his words. Ji-hwan may say he doesn’t like her, that she’s just a tenant, and that she’s free to sign a lease on a new apartment — even if said apartment is not as nice or as secure as the one he secretly leased for her — but his actions are screaming “I love you, and I would throw myself onto a bed of cacti before letting you suffer a single splinter!” But words are concrete, whereas actions can be misinterpreted. So, Eun-ha signs the lease on a new apartment, not bothering to wait until 11 o’clock out of some misguided hope that Ji-hwan might romantically show up and stop her before she can sign the paperwork.

But guess what? Ji-hwan was spurred into action. He was just too late — too late to prevent Eun-ha from signing her new lease, but right on time to witness Hyun-woo shoot his shot and confess his feelings to Eun-ha. She quickly releases her wrist from Hyun-woo’s grip when she spots Ji-hwan watching them — a sure sign of where her feelings are aligned — but Ji-hwan’s brain is too busy trying to figure a way out of this awkward situation to notice her instinctive reaction to his presence. Ultimately, Ji-hwan decides the best way to get Eun-ha away from Hyun-woo is to tell her she’s needed at home — because nothing says “I secretly want to confess my love for you” quite like telling a woman she should do housework. (*facepalm*)

Even though Ji-hwan has finally accepted his feelings and is ready to take a giant leap towards Eun-ha, he’s inexperienced and clearly needs some help. Enter: our deerlings. Their earlier failed attempt at parent-trapping hasn’t discouraged them from plotting a new matchmaking scheme. This time, they decide they need a change of scenery — and some mild-mannered kidnapping. They have it all planned out: force Eun-ha and Ji-hwan into a van and escort them for a nice little getaway in the mountains. Surely the woodsy atmosphere and isolated bonding time will show Ji-hwan and Eun-ha that they should all continue living under the same roof like one big happy family.

Almost immediately, their plan goes awry when they have to pivot and kidnap Mi-ho along with Eun-ha, causing the van ride to be extra tense because there’s now two awkward couples avoiding eye contact — not that anyone else is aware of the fact that Mi-ho and Il-young had a one-night stand. While Eun-ha gives Ji-hwan the cold shoulder and ignores his edible peace offerings, Mi-ho is more vocal about her displeasure — especially since she’s got a pregnancy test burning a hole in her pocket. Yeah, that’s right, Mi-ho’s period is late and certain food smells make her nauseous, but before she could read her pregnancy test and confirm her suspicion, she got kidnapped by her maybe baby daddy and his friends.

Spoiler alert: there are two lines, which means it’s positive. Personally, I’m not a fan of this turn of events — even if the positive COVID pregnancy test did result in what is, hands down, my favorite one-liner joke from this drama thus far. I just don’t find accidental pregnancies amusing or romantic, especially when the relationship status of the parents-to-be is as complicated and undefined as it is between Mi-ho and Il-young. Sure, we know that Il-young only said their one-night stand was a “mistake” because he assumed that was how Mi-ho felt, but I would have preferred our secondary couple sorted out their feelings before finding out they are going to be parents. As it is, Il-young inadvertently sees the pregnancy test before Mi-ho, and I fear he’s going to start pursuing Mi-ho “for the sake of the baby.” At this point, I’m hoping the pregnancy test was a false positive, but if not, my fingers are crossed that the writers find a way to deviate from the usual pitfalls of this particular trope.

After arriving at a mansion in the woods, Eun-ha decides to go for a walk and put a little distance between her and Ji-hwan. An hour later, when she hasn’t returned to the house, Ji-hwan grows increasingly worried, remembering the suspicious person he saw earlier outside his house. Panicked, he searches the nearby woods, frantically calling her name until he finally finds her. Eun-ha, completely unaware that she’s inadvertently stirred up a fuss, backs up when she sees Ji-hwan running at her. She then twists her ankle, and sends them both tumbling down a hill. Ji-hwan, always the dashing hero, cups her head and grabs her so that he takes the brunt of the fall.

In between gasping breaths, Ji-hwan confirms she’s all right, scolds her for wandering off on her own with a dead cell phone battery, admits he was worried about her, and confesses he likes her — wait! Eun-ha has to double-check she heard him correctly, and Ji-hwan bumbles his way through his love confession a second time. Suddenly, it all makes sense to Eun-ha as she thinks back on their time together. Ji-hwan may not be the best with words, but his actions made her fall for him, and Ji-hwan nearly passes out when Eun-ha admits that she likes him, too, and then leans in to give him a quick kiss. (Ahhhh! His awkward innocence is so adorably sexy!)

Ji-hwan’s brain short circuits after the kiss, and every time he looks at Eun-ha, his eyes wander to her mouth, which reminds him of their kiss, and — beep, boop — his brain explodes. Unable to process these new feelings — emotional and physical — Ji-hwan develops an unfortunate habit of running away whenever he’s in close proximity to Eun-ha. Thankfully, now that Eun-ha has received a verbal confirmation that Ji-hwan reciprocates her feelings, she’s able to correctly interpret his awkward behavior as a sign that he’s smitten and not disinterested. Even better, she decides to exploit her newfound knowledge and send him adorable videos that she knows will turn him into a gooey, heart-eyed fool. (The best kind of fool.)

But, as happy as she is to start her romance with Ji-hwan, Eun-ha realizes that the time has come to officially tell Hyun-woo that she can’t reciprocate his feelings. Hyun-woo, smart man that he is, has already come to the conclusion that Eun-ha is going to reject him, but they go through the motions of having dinner, buying ice cream, and walking off the calories before finally addressing the elephant in the room. Hyun-woo’s disappointed, but — unlike his coworker, who has secretly kept her feelings for Hyun-woo a secret so she can remain a part of his life — he tells Eun-ha not to take his feelings too seriously. He assures her that he will get over her, and he encourages her to reach out if she ever needs help instead of worrying that things might be awkward between them. (Okay, Hyun-woo, here’s some more brownie points.)

Hyun-woo escorts Eun-ha home, and just as he’s reaching out to shake her hand goodbye, Ji-hwan swoops in and palm-blocks him. With Eun-ha’s hand firmly tucked in his, Ji-hwan glares at Hyun-woo and yells, “Let’s go, Baby!” at a decibel that clearly indicates the term of endearment is as foreign to him as the jealousy welling inside him. He then whisks Eun-ha up the stairs and into the front yard, where he gives her a kiss that says — clearer than any words his malfunctioning brain could cobble together — that he’s been thinking about her all day. (Me-ow)

And there it is, Beanies! We finally have a love confession and (a sober) kiss! This week might have started out a little slow due to Eun-ha and Ji-hwan’s brief separation — if you can call it that — but the payoff was worth it! I think this might be my favorite K-drama love confession scene of all time. Something about the combination of Ji-hwan’s concern and the way he just blurted out his feelings was absolutely endearing, but even better was the way he transformed after hearing his affection was mutual. Beanies, he’s smiling!

Thank you for this sweet recap. 🍭

This OTP and their cute fight hijinks may just be most favorite ever. The sound effects of Eun-ha's growl vs. Ji-hwan's whimper are just too good. 🤣🤣🤣

Joon was the best-est ever.
But why was Ye-na pretending its a date!? Who cares, the look on Eun-ha's face as she left was priceless.

I was nervous going into this week! Most shows lose their way before or by the halfway mark. I didn't want this little surprising gem of a show to suffer the same fate. I was reassured from the first scene in episode 9. Most of us guessed correctly, that our sometimes annoying and other times seems-not-too-bad SL told Eun-ha the truth. At least enough of it to ease the mounting anxiety she was feeling about finding her childhood friend. I have a sneaky suspicion she knows it's Ji-hwan.
A part of me softened towards Hyun woo. He could have chosen to lie, but he didn't.
As much as it irritated me, I'm not sure I can blame him for telling Eun-ha he likes her. I like how both episodes played with honesty- when is the right time to show your cards? How vulnerable can we be about the things that haunt us from the past?
As Il-young so wisely put it: the difference between Hyun woo and Ji-hwan was that Hyun woo was honest about his feelings for Eun-ha.
We know this is one of Ji-hwan's sore spots. Should it be *that* hard for him to tell the woman he likes (really, really likes) that he likes her? Given his past, I see how that is part of how he's come to navigate the world. Keep his heart and those close to him safe by hardening himself, ergo not being honest, even with himself, about what he wants. So it must be scary for him to be thrust into the open and deal with feelings he's always suppressed. His agony was so pure, I felt it clutching in my own chest. Uhm Tae Goo's acting was brilliant. How many of us have spent hours writing and erasing a text that we never send? Or sighed from the deep dark depths of ourselves like that? *groan* So relatable. His awkwardness with his mouth and his actions in the presence of beauty and grace felt true to his character. I don't think it would have worked without the depth of layers we have seen of him (again all the acting stars to UTG.)

This is why his confession brought both a tear and butterflies. It meant so much to have those words finally leave his body, you could feel his relief. And Eun-ha, ever so graceful and mature responded in kind. I like that she didn't try to punish him for all the times he couldn't say it. As much as he frustrated her with his mixed signals, she seems to understand him at his core.

The one thing I'm having a hard time with is this change in Ji-hwan from being the gentleman who in the beginning was thoughtful and careful, giving Eun-ha space, not crowding her but at the same time showing his care, to this possessive man who only wants her to look at him. I'm not sure possessiveness will ever be sexy. You can't own a person. It doesn't matter your background, culture, race, social status, you simply cannot possess another human. You can try, but that's not how love works. So this 'trope' never makes sense to me. It feels immature at best and controlling at worst. Yet here we are, with our hero stating to show signs of it and I'm torn. It ruined the...

I'm not sure what happened yo my spacing 👀 Sorry.

I was saying it ruined the first kiss for me. I'm dreaming of a new role for UTG, maybe a more slice of life with a love story where he doesn't have to be a victim of this rom-comy and thriller-gone-wrong device. He would be spectacular. Delicious and divine.
May the Kdrama gods hear my prayer. Amen.

I felt like our SL story had more substance and nuance this week than the main one and I desperately wanted more time with them. The Deerlings...what's not to love about them? They're the found family I'm searching for. Eun-ha encapsulated them so well when she said - they're good people. *sigh*

Thank you @daebakgrits for your lovely recap.

As a first-time-in-love introvert, I was expecting this of his character, given what he went through (although self-inflicted) to get his girl. Rings true of characterisation in my opinion (personally experienced too).

Ji-Hwan's feelings are novelty to him and it would take time to separate them in compartments. He will learn to let go as he becomes assured in Eun-Ha's love for him and their relationship.

I don't think it will take away from his fundamental characteristics as a gentle, considerate soul. Don't worry. Unless the writers were on drugs and decided to botch their perfect writing, it won't make him less in a bad way, but less in a loser-in-love way.

He blurted it out, just like he blurts out anything that originates from this unfamiliar new state of being in love. He hasn't learned to deal with this yet. And his rather explosive actions were meant as a clear signal to his main rival. He wouldn't have reacted as much with another man. And he has cause because Hyeon U has confessed to her. It was a normal reaction between males. (in kdramas anyway)

I don't think that was a bad look. A bad look would have been getting angry at Eun-ha for meeting with Hyeon U at night for what could easily be misconstrued as a date.

I find this new side of Ji Hwan (possessiveness) not so weird. I've always have find him kind of childish and immature when it come to Eun Ha.

So now that they're "official" I'm not surprised he's acting like a teenager in his first relationship, especially because he kind of is.

Not only he never had this type of relationship or closeness to someone before, he seems to have aloud himself to put his walls down and feel and do what he really wants for the first time.

I was actually a happy with the kiss because that was the first time he expressed his feelings directly to her, verbally and physically. And it was also the first time he didn't run away or faint or something after some skin-ship.
I kind of thought that scene was major progress.

I was very frustrated with him during episode 9 because he kept doing things Eun Ha told him not to do, but after I tried seeing his perspective (like you mentioned, given his past and all) I felt a little better about his actions.

I think there's a lot that we need to take into consideration when we analyze this show and its characters, and that's one of the beauties of it!

I feel it was warranted agaisnt the prosecutor and maybe he could do it with other outsiders similar to Lee Joon but it was weird he was like that with his own Deerlings who've been calling her sister-in-law for so long now. Like he knows them, he knows they're his bros and only Il-young "the player" and maybe Jung-ki are the types he can be jealous about interacting with her. But Man-ho? The teddy bear who invented "sister-in-law"?? On that note I don't think he reacted about Jae-su's new closeness to little rat at all.

That's why he gives me this "teen" vibes. I remember in middle/high school some friends would get jealous for no reason.

Most of us would react like "ew, chill out. he's/she's ugly af anyway" (we know each other since forever), but from the jealous kids' perspective that didn't matter. We all were immature and insecure and had no clue about relationships. And that's the phase Ji Hwan seems to be in, imo.

But I believe he will grow in the next few episodes, along with the couple building trust and establishing boundaries, communicating, etc.

This is from my perspective. I don't think his possessiveness is uncharacteristic. It's not meant to be portrayed as sexy or swoon-worthy but as a different phase in learning to be in a relationship. He doesn't know what the hell he is doing. No one does if they have no prior relationship experience. He has never been in a real relationship before. He sees his people as ones that need to be protected from the evils and threats in the world. He has been hinting and showing this side of him this entire series so far. Keeping his people close and protecting them is all he knows how to do.

This might not be pretty to watch at first but, if you want to see growth you have to see a beginning.

I get all the mechanics at play. And yes, growth must begin somewhere. In most dramas, possessiveness is shown as "normal" and proof of desire so it just felt like the writers were falling in that trap too. But we'll trust them and see how Ji-hwan grows from this.

Just taking a step back to scan Episodes 9-10 as a whole, I think we are in the safe hands of an able writer.

The thematic bedrock to help us navigate all the seeming dissonances this week is contained in that exchange btw Jang & Eun-Ha (Ep 9):

HW:"I thought I knew a person well, but apparently not and it confuses me."
EH: "I can relate. A person I thought is bad turns out to have a gentle side. And a person I thought gentle, turns out to have a cold side."
EH: "People are more complicated than we think I guess."

Thanks for the recap @daebakgrits I bet you struggled to decide which highlights to include as there were so many cute moments.

I just want to zoom in on Mr rude and ungrateful aka The chairman. He is away for 9 years and on his release complains that half the gang are missing and disrespects Yanghee, the man who despite being overlooked for years prior to the Chairman’s arrest has kept things going in the Chairman’s absence. The chairman continually implies that this recent mistake overrides the favour gleaned from 9 years of loyalty. I don’t even like Yanghee but I still felt bad for him losing his side kick and being dismissed in such a blatant way.

Actually it would be LOL-brilliant if they pull a similar plot stunt to what AoS2 did when the villain Jin Mu threw away the beloved turtle pet of CP Won 🤣🤣

It was the inciting incident that made him defect to his frenemy Jang Uk, formed an alliance and overthrew the regime and his former mentor

Thank you for the recap! Ji Hwan's brain short circuits ... yes, that's what they are, lol 😁

I love the Deer family! That strategy meeting in Ep 9 is so hilarious! Like Man Ho, I too have no idea what Jaesoo is strategizing! Even Il Young refers to Eun Ha as sis-in-law! I love Il Young's quizzical look at Ji Hwan's behavior whenever Ji Hwan is concerned about Eun Ha! I'm glad Ji Hwan has Il Young to confide in.

It's so awesome that the blind date guy too has praises for SJH. I wonder if the blind date guy is an ex-con...

Seo Ji Hwan is soooo attractive when he's angry and in command, especially with Kitty mobster. I do want a back story of him and his dad. Lol at the name Meow Company!

Btw, EH said she sang only once. Was there such a scene?

1. Both strategy pow-wows in Episodes 9-10 are hilarious. We had no idea what the game-plan was until every single Deerling filed out of the room, all thumping the hapless Dong-Hui on his back. Then we realise he's tagged to take down the mark (Eun-Ha) cos he's the most innocent looking maknae and "baby brother".

2. Yes - am pretty sure Lee Joon was supposed to be an ex-con too, and of the fraudster variety 🤣 Yang Hong-Ki's proud endorsement was capital: "We sent in our best guy!" (read: the glib-tongued charmer who can sell snake-oil like he did too)

3. Yes - mad JH is beast-mode ON, and utterly sexy. I love that entire action sequence when he arm-twist the car key out of the gangster's palm, locks himself in with Kitty Boss and calmly issued an ultimatum in his low raspy whisper whilst maintaining a deadly chokehold on his opponent. (that awesome grey 3-piece suit doesn't hurt too 😍😍)

Oh yes! He was totally bad ass when he arm-twisted the car key out and that guy was twice his size! Another action scene I thought was super bad ass was when he flew off the table when fighting at the hotel back then.

Re: EH singing

No, we didn't get that scene but I LURVE that part of the bickering - they were already scrapping the bottom of the barrel in petty mud-slinging as they devolved from blind-date to dripping shower head to slamming door and finally to "you sing too loudly!" (UTG's acting at that point was elevated to sublime art. I love how he cowered for a split second when she yelled back)

Il Young's rousing-scolding spiel was hilarious ("be dominant!"; "attack first!", "do not let your guard down!")

Contrary to other Beanies, I love it when JH gets back on form as the alpha dog and channel that in his own abysmal love life (or lack thereof). That s why, his "Aegi Kaja!" was glorious. It's appropriately possessive and childishly jealous. LOVE IT

Ep 10 is just super fantastic! Every SJH scene must be replayed countless times!!! And I still can't stop laughing at his funny scenes every time I replay them! Like when he almost fainted and tumbled after EH kissed him. Him running away fast after giving her the ice pack. Him watching her kiss video. Him happily skipping out of the door after seeing the couple with the flowers.

I enjoy watching SJH scold his Deerlings (mostly Man Ho and Jae Soo who got scolded), haha! He's so rough and harsh with them, even when he's asking for water (the meat grilling scene). SJH squeezing Man Ho's sides to make Man Ho guve up cooking was funny too! Oh, and we got SJH rolling his sleeves! SJH taking off the gloves and throwing them like he's throwing a basketball, and him smiling broadly while looking away... so many cute scenes during that dinner!

In the tangerine scene, one moment SJH is a penguin, peeling the fruit delicately, next moment he's a bulldog, mad at Man Ho / speed bumps!

When they were kids, it was Ji Hwan (Hyun Woo Oppa) who initiated to play games with Eun Ha, making her feel less lonely. Now as adults, it's Eun Ha's turn. How she kissed him first...

I also was afraid that his confession was just in his mind. Glad it wasn't! He confessed so many times! Woohoo!

The emoji above sums up my emotions since Thursday night, OMG, they are all so cute, Uhm Tae-goo especially! 😊
I know there are so many lovable moments to add to the recap so allow me say mine.
1. When the main couple had their bickering fight in ep 9 and Jae-soo said it's over, cuz that's how he and his ex broke up, I was on the floor 😂
2. When he asserted she returns home to clean reminded me of Rain and Song hye-kyo, when he stops her date by deceiving her to clean up first in Full House.
3. When Ji-hwan was taking consultations from Il-young and they switched chairs 😂😂, they have such a loving and sweet camaraderie.
4. When Ji-hwan attempted to give Eun-ha a peeled tangerine but only ended up throwing it on her face courtesy of our best driver/matchmaker 😂😂
5. Hong-ki's perfect voice imitation of Ji-hwan 😂😂
6. Then the COVID line, o please, the deerlings are so adorably naive 😂😂
That for that, I exceptionally loved how he confessed his feelings, it was in line with his character, straight out blurting the words out in hopes that she won't hear him but he atleast freed his chest. He is soooooooo cute! Y'all, I found my crush of the year 2024. 😘

OMG - I second that!

1. Best Lovers' Squabble Prognosis & Read of the Room award: "It's over boys! That's how my ex and I broke up." (so GOOD, and on-point!)

2. Best Cockblocker Retort: "It's cleaning day!" (good catch on Full House)

3. Yes I love how they directed and cut that scene, when they did a wipe transition and Il Young is seated like a boss, pep-talking the deflated Ji-Hwan

4. Someone made a brilliant comment about that scene: "Ji-Hwan is peeling the tangerine delicately with his fairy fingers, only to see it launched straight into Eun-Ha's face at the speed bump." 🤣

6. The covid-19 one-liner is hands-down the quip of the episode 10. I nearly spit my tea. Never in my life did I expect to find the words "covid-19" *this* hilarious. But show did it. Well done 👍 (you can always count on our Dumb & Dumber duo to supply the chuckles)

CONT'D: my other highlights (in no order of merit)

7. The River Nile award goes to...the entire house-hunting beat. The (denial) force is strong with this one. The little animation of Eun-Ha keeling over, facedown on burning asphalt doing her 100m dash to bus-stop was such a tickle! 🤣

This man didn't sign a rental lease for her; he bought a whole damn house for her. Let that sink in. We all need an Oppa like that ❤❤

8. Definitely that priceless cameo by Lee Joon. Plot-function wise, he is the male alter-ego of Kang Ye-Na. So when they BOTH showed up on the same scene - OMG it's the power rangers of the green-eyed monster, as our OTP went into petty jealousy overdrive 🤣🤣

9. "You mean dating comes after we confess our feelings?" (I swear he grew up in a monastery with no internet)

10. Eun-Ha running away to her maiden home in an act of rebellion against her landlord's overbearing order to clean house. Love the crafty card-playing story beat - seeing that sociopathic side of Eun-Ha venting was hilarious

11. Best Analogy in Lover's Complaint: "Even a penguin will give a rock to another penguin it likes to win their heart!" 🐧🐧

12. 😻 Cat is out of the bag: The surprise twist that Jae-soo is a cat lover & feeder LOL (I did not see that coming; though I knew he is off to some clandestine / guilty past-time)

My top picks of best recap lines from DaebakGrits go to....:

1. but his actions are screaming “I love you, and I would throw myself onto a bed of cacti before letting you suffer a single splinter!”

2. nothing says “I secretly want to confess my love for you” quite like telling a woman she should do housework. (*facepalm*)

3. and yells, “Let’s go, Baby!” at a decibel that clearly indicates the term of endearment is as foreign to him as the jealousy welling inside him.

Thanks for this funny recap, DaebakGrits!

What I really liked:
_ The "blind date" scene. The cameo was wonderful. I have not seen any drama starred by Lee Joon yet, but it seemed here he had a lot of fun. It was an hilarious scene.

_ Min-ho's family scenes. I would like to see more of them. Even better if Il-young is there. They need more scenes together.

_ All Hyun-woo's scenes. He is growing on me a lot. I felt very sorry for him in some moments. It's not SML syndrome (yet) but I hope he can be happy. I see now I'm enjoying this show more when Kwon Yool is on scene.

_ The deerlings. They are a mess, but always funny.

What I didn't like:

_ Eun-ha trying to make Ji-hwan feel uncomfortable. I don't know why, but I didn't like the cute video she sent to him. They have just started their relationship, but she is going too fast 😅 He needs his time.

_ Ji-hwan being over-protective and... possessive? It was cute when he tried to find the best and safest appartment for her, though. But I don't like the way he acted at the end of episode 10.

_ The Disney's Pocahontas original music from the theme "If I never knew you" sounded twice in the Episode 9. And I don't know if this is homage or plagiarism, but it took me out of the show. This composer definitely is an admirer of Alan Menken.

If Eun Ha does nothing this relationship might not move 😂. This dude didn’t know they were together because they confessed feelings. lol.
I am glad she is making the moves. And she knows he has watched all her videos before. So she knew exactly what to do.

Personally I am not a fan of that kind of possessiveness. But in this case I think it stems from his own insecurities and lack of relationship experience. Once they both start talking to each other and establishing a relationship based on trust he wouldn’t care if she meet Hyun woo or anyone else. So I gave this one a pass. Also Eun Ha is a capable woman who knows to speak her mind and won’t let him dictate her actions in future.

But it actually makes perfect sense here in their emotional narrative arc.

In his love confession he told her: "I like you. Very very much, much more than you can imagine. I only have eyes for you." (at least in my subs version)

He is only asking for a reciprocal pledge of commitment and exclusivity: I only have eyes for you, can I have the assurance that you also only have eyes for me?

All our other ships (the ones that have sailed, or not):

1. And it shalt be said: "They went on a camping trip, and came back with two sisters-in-law." 😂

2. Now that we have settled our OTP, I am glad to see more plot development & relational dynamics for our second leads Miho & Il-Young.

Let's see:
(a) we have a positive PT stick (may be fake-out?)
(b) we have Mi-Ho calling Il-Young a "coward" for his "mistake" backpedal
(c) we have Il-Young showing petty jealousy for the first time when Yang was paying Mi-ho too much attention fussing over follicles
(d) we then have Mi-Ho holding out the olive branch and tampering down her hitherto hostile stance cos they may have more social time in future ("let's be friends". uh-oh. did she just friend-zone him?)

In other news!

Our luckless Mr Justice (whose ship did not sail with either Eun-Ha or Ye-Na) may well find a landing berth with the quiet Officer Song who has held a torch for him since the Joseon dynasty. Still waters run deep...

Oh, what a show. ☺️

1. Joon seemed to be having the time of his life with that cameo. He gave me Shrek's Prince charming flashbacks with that rose and attitude. 😂

A perfect addition to the Lobster Company. He was just as extra as everyone else in that place. LMAO His cameo was sudden but impactful.

2. I think Ji Hwan needs to give his deerlings a rise. They did everything to get them back together, and they were successful.
Be more grateful, papa deer. They even kidnapped for you.

3. The forest confession was adorable! And I loved that when she confessed he dropped her, and then her little kiss almost killed him (why am I making their relationship sound so violent? LMAO)

4. I found Eun Ha very relatable in these two episodes because Ji Hwan was acting extremely frustrating but it was hard to stay mad at him because he's adorbs.

But I see the final scene of episode 10 as him trying harder to express himself properly, so there's hope.
I'm guess we'll see some character development I'm the next few weeks.

Also, I LOVE how Eun Ha handles everything with Ji Hwan. I liked that after he ruined her moment with Hyun Woo she didn't go home.
She left because he was being stubborn, plus the puppy face, but she made it clear that she wasn't happy with his behavior and that he wouldn't control her.

But what I loved the most was Eun Ha's cuteness attacks. I just love how she teases him. She won't push him too far, but she won't sit around either. For example, it was nice that after he got shy, she just sent him a video instead of trying to do something more direct.

She's really carrying this relationship. And that's why I can't wait to Ji's development, since he needs to carry the other half of the ship.

5. Because of how well they have developed Mi Ho so far (she's an icon), I want to give this show a chance about the pregnancy and all.

However, the fact that just like any other show they skipped the sex scene, they didn't explain if it was safe or just anything related to Mi Ho's birth control, and she didn't even got the chance to comment about how she feels about this possible pregnancy and what she wants to do about it, and instead they made all the guys in the family see and discuss the pregnancy test before Mi Ho even confirmed it, isn't giving me that much hope.

I feel like the show took away some of her power by doing all this. It's like her words lost some weight the second that night stopped being her and Il Yeong.

Also, now that Il Yeong knows that she's pregnant, wtv he does, I'm gonna feel meh about it. I won't stop feeling sus about him. And even if this family is great and there's like six cute uncles ready to raise that child, I can't be happy about it because there's no real reason for Mi Ho to be pregnant and to keep the baby except for the low birth rate agenda.
I want to be optimistic, but this show had no business including this storyline to begin with...

These two episodes just had it all—the angst, the depth, the ridiculous can’t help but smile comedy, and the romance. And wow, Um Tae Gu just was amazing in these episodes. The physical comedy alone would be noteworthy—the crazy blind date scene, the running and extreme angling of his body to hide behind the police car when looking for Eun Ha, the whole series of running, falling, fainting and careening in love while piggybacking Eun Ha, the lovely ice pack making, and so much more. But what makes Ji Hwan/UTG much more is the range he exhibits through his competence, depth and even the bigger vision he has—the scene when he goes to warn Go Yang Yi to not to mess with his people (and I think we know he means in particular, but does not name, Eun Ha) shows the power behind his threat (how efficient was he in getting the keys and returning the keys?). There is no doubt that you should not mess with him, so when he shows the vulnerability, softness, the joy and even discombulation (i.e., lack of control) of his feelings for Eun Ha, it hits hard because these are things he has tried and succeed for so long not to have in order for him to be able to do his larger mission of restorative justice and mercy. Yet, at the same time, while he is flailing in love, his sense of responsibility and ethos are never divorced from his being. Even his hyperviligilance and perceptiveness makes him highly aware of the dangers all around him (he was the only one to notice the secret photographer). So when he tells the prosecutor that he has thought multiple times more the dangers around him, we know it’s true because we have seen the benefits (saving his employees and Eun Ha) and the costs (his hypervigiliance, his inability to sleep).

The vulnerability he feels both for himself being potential not in control and for Eun Ha’s safety is especially poignant because of his extreme competence and sense of responsibility. It is telling that the only times we known he has fallen asleep (and let himself be a little less aware and little more vulnerable to the world) has been in the presence of Eun Ha (a catnap while waiting for her at the hospital and then seemingly a deep sleep in the hospital bed with her right nearby). So even though she causes him to feel vulnerable (and safe), now when she is away, he cannot rest at all as Man Ho says when Eun Ha sleeps over at Mi Ho’s house.

At the same time, Eun Ha’s character shined through these two episodes. Eun Ha’s insistence of being self-sufficient with both Ji Hwan and the prosecutor when she was looking for a new place to stay showed how she wanted to live within her means and with self-respect. She was clear with her feelings when she told Ji Hwan that she wouldn’t make him uncomfortable by questioning him further, telling him straightforwardedly that she enjoyed her time at the house AND with him, and yet, she would not let him confuse her further by accepting his gestures of kindness when he told her that...

he was comfortable with being alone and having boundaries. It was a call back to her conversation with girl in the hospital when she told her that she needed to tell the boy she hit her feelings because feelings needed to be told since they are not always evident—even though there is the adage actions speak louder than words, it is clear that actions are more ambiguous than honest words, especially about feelings. Also, she did not demand Ji Hwan share his feelings or try to change him because she was holding firm to what she believed she wanted and deserves whether with him or someone else—she wanted someone who would love her freely instead of her begging, trying to extract it from him or even waiting around in hopes for him to change. She also would not accept his gestures of care when cloaked in ambiguity whether in language (“I do this for all my employees.” “As their guardian . . .”), his soft constant gazes in the vacation van ride, or even his fruit rock offering because as she told him she does not want to misinterpret these things and mistakenly cross his boundaries. Both Eun Ha and MiHo (more on her later) are women who understand that each person is responsible for their own feelings, whether that is recognizing or articulating them and one cannot make or demand the other person feel something in response to their feelings. When Ji Hwan finally did confess, even if it was awkwardedly done after a full sprint and panic, it was after he worked it out on his own and he came voluntarily and it was clear and honest. She deserved that and he met her there.

Ji Hwan’s confession was great—all of it, the physical comedy, the emotional vulnerability, the clear statement. Ji Hwan had already started out the family trip knowing his feelings for her, wanting her to stay and, as he told the prosecutor, after ruminating about it countless times, knowing that he would give his life to protect her. (BTW, I like that he would not answer whether he liked Eun Ha to anyone, the prosecutor or Ye Na, before he told her or even himself, but he also did not deny it.) So when he was running and screaming to find her when she went on her walk, he was in a full panic. His panic was not only because he missed her, but also, because he had seen someone photographing/observing them as they were leaving the house and then maybe at the vacation house. This put these two competing factors—the dangers posed by being in his orbit and his desire to be with her—in play. It is understandable that his confession would come out in the jumble mess after his scolding in relief in finding her safe is because they were in the midst of his vulnerable area (he dropped to casual talk in his raw emotion, showing his lack of control) for both her in terms of safety and for him emotionally (not only are these feelings new, but it also endangers her which is scary for him too). And yet, when he snaps back after he realizes that he had been yelling at her (reverting back to...

formal talk in his apology), he decides to forge ahead by stating his feelings clearly and unambiguously. That’s what Eun Ha wanted, and that’s when she warmly accepts him.

The possessiveness. On one hand, the “Baby, let’s go” seemed great scene because it brought his gangster full power mode in play against Hyun Woo. I will admit it was a little squee on first superficial impression. On the other hand, no. I hope that this settles down—I have hopes that Eun Ha will also not idly sit by and let it go because she, even though she first fluttered because of his fireman’s carry at the hospital, fundamentally believes in kindness and respect in actions. In the relationship, more sweaters, less black trenchcoat, as cool as it is on the surface.

As to Mi Ho, I too am disappointed by the pregnancy storyline. Writers, you made Miho a smart woman who is unapologetic about sleeping with someone she likes, so why make her dumb about birth control? Also, why make this loveline about Il Yeong confronting his feelings after he finds about her pregnancy? I blame the writers, not Miho. I am hoping for a false pregnancy test, so we can all reset in terms our relationship with the writers and with this couple. (Speaking of action versus words, Il Yeong is as they say in the meat world, all hat, no cattle. Every single piece of advice he has smugly and confidently given Ji Hwan has been ignored by him in his relationship with Mi Ho.)

One last shout out to Hong Gi’s mimicry of Ji Hwan’s voice and Eun Ha’s imitating Ji Hwan’s panic run away. Ji Hwan has become an iclown in his own house.

Where do I even start???
Cute, lovely, adorable, dorky and everything else. Our mobster is the bestest. I loved these two episodes. I was grinning like an idiot. And I was so happy to see them happy after the confession.
He smiled. What a beautiful happy smile.
And the way he felt energized to carry her and run!!!
That confession was so Ji Hwan. I can’t think of any other way he could have confessed. It just fit him right. And his first kiss started hesitantly and nervously which was also so Ji Hwan.
The acting in these episodes was just incredible.

I love our deerlings.

I hate the pregnancy plot. Fix it show. Make her have Covid. Because that’s the only thing that will make it make sense.

Did I say I love this show 💙💙💙💙

I don't hate the pregnancy plot. It's not like first time can't produce a pregnancy so I am not sure what or why they need to fix it. I don't think Covid would cause false pregnancy symptoms as well as a false test.

I personally dont like a pregnancy bringing two people together. Like the recapper said, had he made an effort to communicate and resolve the misunderstanding prior to finding out about the pregnancy I would have no issues with this.
The covid statement was a joke referencing the covid joke in the drama.

(b) On the piggy-back carry reminding her of his first fireman carry of her (when the love and feels started): in retrospect it all made sense now.

A fireman carry is unusual in a k-drama but when you realise how she would totally f-e-e-l his "broad as Pacific Ocean" shoulders slung across that way, you get why she sums the man up as "Shoulder Thug".

It has always been the shoulders for her 😍😜

Thanks for the recap! I should say that more often. I look forward to these recaps almost as much as I look forward to the episodes themselves. I love the fact that you always highlight something that I missed, or explain why a particular moment was so perfect. Dramas wouldn't be nearly as much fun without Dramabeans.

Can I just say that Mi Ho has vaulted into the lead in my heart? That scene where she told Il Young that she didn't regret their night together and that saying it was a mistake was a form of cowardice? Just gorgeous. She broke my heart in that scene. I agree on the pregnancy complication--I do hope it's false, and that she figures it out soon, so that it doesn't complicate whatever future the two of them have together. But boy, Il Young would have to be an enormous fool not to hang onto Mi Ho. She is a gem.

So since the writer completely surprised me with the whole creation of Mi Ho I hope they continue to do so - Il Young has a lot of growing up to do before he can even get close to her level of awesomeness and emotional maturity.

The tangerine. Oh. My. Days. Such a brilliant 30 seconds of humour. The earnestness with which he peeled it and removed the pith. The anxiety on his face as he tried to wake her up to offer it. The way it bounced off her face (fantastic aim!). The grovelling apology and panic on his face that he might just have destroyed his chance. Then it happened again... Sides were split over here!

When I finished ep 10 and proceeded to chores I found myself humming the theme song. I realized that ML's choice of "baby" as endearing name matches the opening. Then I got curious about the rest of the lyrics.
Baby baby won't you come along
Every single day I belong
Baby baby let me come along
Keep you happy all day long
.

Although I much prefer the shortened version "babe" just getting our 'tween in a sharp suit to utter the word is gratifying.

Wait, was it confirmed that lawyer man’s subordinate has feelings for him? Did I miss some dialogue or was it an implication?

I was scared by all the noble idiocy talk so I put off the last 3 episodes. Binged them all last night and they were amazing. Ji-hwan and Eun-ha are just the cutest, and their deerlings are so charming & sweet. Less interested in the second couple and the lawyer man but let’s see where that goes.

Daebakpod makes a good point about how their first real kiss had some dark vibes, spurred on by jealousy, as noted by the music and framing. Sweet Mobster indeed.

While I am not taking this show too seriously, I did like its initial theme of reputation and how it shapes perception--both the ex-cons and the influencers. This seems to have gone by the wayside, with the slapstick humor of the bumbling ex-cons (this is fine) and the immediate threat of the father's return as gang CEO, a threat not only to the safety of the women, but the redemption/salvation of the former criminals. (which I won't like at all if it becomes serious.)
I find the romances less and less appealing. These last two episodes, ML and assistant are exhibiting behaviors that are obnoxious to me as a male viewer rooting for feel-good portrayals of falling in love and living happily together. The assistant is without doubt, the worst, continuing to remain silent and not apologizing after asserting that he made a mistake by sleeping with the 2fl. He should be thrown to the curb immediately, especially if he actually likes the woman, so he can suffer for his lack of consideration and maybe learn a lesson.

As for the ML, its not his shyness and awkwardness that I find irritating, although I did note he had no problem saying mean things to the FL. I don't feel the same way as @daebakgrits--his wasn't one of my favorite confessions of all kdramas--still, it was entirely within character, and in that way okay dramatically. Its not a confession I'll watch again and again, though.

However, the ML's almost pathological phobia about being near to the FL post-confession because--why? He was so scared of sex? He was afraid that he would not be able to control himself if he looked at her lips? destroyed any sort of romantic mood in that episode for me. That, combined with his obsessive jealousy, taking over the cooking, and then physically expressing it by grabbing her away from a handshake-- if it occurred in real life would raise major red flags (obviously I understand its supposed to be comic, I just found it very unromantic).

In any case, for me these last two episodes turned a funny portrayal of a sweet and awkward man with an inadvertent gangster past into a caricature of a kdrama ML in regards to denying/obsessing about the sexual attractiveness of the FL. In fact, with that weird video that I think was supposed to serve as educational therapy (?) the Female Lead became even more of what she has been throughout the show: a Mother doe. If the show actually has the two leads do more than kiss, there's going to be some kind of weird deer-oedipal vibe—an adult Bambi sleeping with his Mom.

"The assistant is without doubt, the worst, continuing to remain silent and not apologizing after asserting that he made a mistake by sleeping with the 2fl."

This has been going on over 3 episodes and should have ended with him clarifying after one. I wish the writers had never went with the mistake line because it created a situation that to me at least does not fit very well with these 2 characters. In true K-drama fashion, they have dragged it out too long. Showing them continuing to be awkward and shy around each other would have been enough of a running gag.

I'd say its believeable. His father from what have seen is extremely abusive and we know his mother was fleeing around the country from the dad with him so thats trauma enough about relations. He was 26 when he took down his father so I'd say he devoted his teens and 20s to plotting how to win over his dad and screw him over. Presumably he was sent to jail after the hotel incident right after and stayed there for 2 years after which nearing his 30s, at 28, he (j̶o̶i̶n̶e̶d̶ t̶h̶e̶ m̶o̶n̶k̶s̶) opened a meat company and built it into a multimillion won industry and bought a house where he and his 5 close boys live and none of whom are allowed to bring a woman in there, not even the milk lady. He is extremely religious was a plot point too. Also its not like he wasn't interested before he fell for Eun-ha in the flour scene as he asked Il-yeong how he did it when women came over to flirt with Il-yeong and set up a date(in typical lower manner he was holding his amgazine upside down as pointed out by Il-yeong). And as Lee Joon's character explained he sucks at dating women which might mean he just...sucks at it. Ye-na and his factory women are the only ones who drool about him but that would really be power exploitation if he slept with his workers or those who feel like he is their saviour and thus have a crush on him so obviously that cannot happen.

I agree, I found the ML avoidance tropes really annoying. I cringe, look away, or ff. I was hoping for more for our mobster. Thanks for expressing this, as I couldn't quite figure out why I wasn't liking this show anymore as much as everyone else. This is the main thing I loved about Lovely Runner, the OTP were able to express their desires, confess pretty easily, and move into affection in every timeline--at least within one episode or so. (of course there were other frustrating communication problems)

You raise some very interesting points! Snow White and her seven ggangpae has really become a "mother" to the whole group, right down to feeding them. But with the growing love of the ML she has also morphed into a vase, who is carried around, kidnapped and is basically just the object of affection and no longer a human being. I'm sure she'll be kidnapped again so the ML can save her.

Required fields are marked *

However, the ML's almost pathological phobia about being near to the FL post-confession because--why?

I didn't really see it as a phobia as much as him not being able to process the giddiness of having reciprocated feelings for someone. Like, imagine coming home after your first kiss with someone you really like, flopping on your bed, and squeeing into a pillow (a la Jeong-won-style after his kiss with Gyu-wool in <em<Hospital Playlist 2, Episode 1). That’s what he’s feeling, but the problem lies in the fact that -- despite the overall lightheartedness of the drama -- Ji-hwan's childhood was not so sweet. Presumably, he has been conditioned by his father and his environment to remain stoic and emotionless because expressing his feelings -- especially feelings for another individual -- can be seen as a weakness that can be exploited. So the awkward behavior comes from him trying to suppress his excitement. He either doesn’t know how to express himself or he doesn’t feel comfortable giving into his instinctive urge to just be…giddy. When he’s physically around her, he feels excited and overstimulated (and I don’t necessarily mean sexually), and because he doesn’t know how to channel that energy, he panics and runs -- or acts overly jealous because he didn’t reign in his emotions and acted impulsively.

Or…at least that’s how I’m interpreting it because I’ve felt similarly during the early stages of most of my relationships -- especially in my first ever relationship. Even the running away part is kind of relatable. Haha. Admittedly, seeing a thirty-something-year-old behave this way does seem odd -- especially since he’s extremely attractive and it seems unfathomable that he would have zero dating experience -- but I’m rolling with it since his inexperience has long been established as part of his characterization. I'm hoping he's going to mellow out once the newness wears off.

@daebakgrits Thanks for your reply! Again I want to emphasize that I know its supposed to be funny, and I'm not judging it by whether his behavior "realistic" or not, but rather how satisfying it is to watch, in a romantic comedy sense, and that's where it really fell down for me.

Awkwardness, shyness, sure. That I think everyone can relate to, and it is how his character has been portrayed throughout. It was the thinking of her lips and then fleeing after the post-confession kiss that had me feeling that something was actually a little wrong with him! (or, more likely, that it was just a exaggerated portrayal of the kdrama trope of having the ML being totally physically unthreatening by actually having him more afraid of sex than the FL.)

While maybe his stoic personality would not have him engaged in the "lying on the bed and wriggling and kicking with joy" behaviorial cliche (still, wouldn't that have been even funnier and more endearing for a tough gangster?) It was the fear of her lips in a sexual sense that bothered me, and I'm not sure why the FL somehow understood this and sent the therapy video (again, I know it was funny--not trying to be a humorless carper here), especially since she didn't understand the previous pushing away by the ML was noble idiocy. (which, as usual with noble idiocy, was so quickly resolved that you wonder why there was a need for it in the first place, except to extend the show a couple more episodes. )

But, I think I've said enough on this point--don't want to give the impression that I myself am pathologically obsessed!

Totally agree.

But in my case, the part which almost ruined this character was not his fear, shyness or awkwardness (although it started to be a little boring), but his jealousy, rudeness and possessiveness in some scenes.

We have seen this kind of behavior before in Dramaland (jerks MLs there are many), but in this case I think it was out of character. And it's sad because I was loving Ji-hwan until episode 7.

Thanks for the recap. The comments board has really exploded this week. I am intimidated by the amount of estrogen-ing. IMO there are a few things that really irritated me this week. I hate that SMLs story is so rushed and uninteresting. It was as many of us suspected a rush to judgment that caused him to hate Ji Hwan. But, it wasn't just a rush to judgment, but an idiotic almost brain dead rush to judgment that makes him seem both incompetent and hateful.

For me, the confession felt cold and I think many share this sentiment. Mostly because it was a forced expression of feelings and not the usual realization that the ML wants to be close to the FL and that certain sacrifices need to be made. Also, they never really resolve the initial reason for their "break up," daddy's back and he is here to punish his betrayer, Ji Hwan.

I like the feelings speed run that Ji Hwan went through this week. Awkwardness is the best kind of self aware humor IMO. I also think this feels authentic to someone who has never let himself have feelings to not understand how his body and his mind are being affected when he is in love.

I don't quite understand what Il Yong is doing. I get he is devoted to his boss, but Mi Ho says she likes you. Her parents say they like you. Even when she says she doesn't want to be a coward, she is telling you stop being a coward because I like you. Hopefully, there is a compelling reason why he is holding himself back. I was hoping he was going to say it was a mistake to one night stand someone he really likes and that he wanted to start the relationship on a good foot by dating and developing their relationship first. But, it seems increasingly likely that they will get together because of the kid. sigh.

Finally, there is a word that escapes me but I should remember now that I am an active participant on this website. It describes falling in love during increased danger or physical activity. It happens constantly in kdrama and happened this week. It is like parasinusoidal response. Help.

If I seem negative, maybe I am in a mood. Please don't hold it against me.

My wish to the drama-gods is they won't squander this 2nd romantic leads goldmine; it has great narrative potential.

p.s. a minor point, but I feel that the fact that it's a noona romance (though it's a mere 1-year-gap) does colour their dynamics.

I have noted several occasions where Il Young seems almost overwhelmed by, or in awe of Mi-Ho. Underneath that poised collected veneer lies a subterranean vein of ill-confidence.

In these dramas pregnancies are devices that push people together that were destined for each other anyway. But also, IRL, after, I think it's ten minutes or so, the result of a test does not count and could easily be a false positive.
I would be surprised though if they took that into account here. But if he got all "I will take full responsibility" and martyred himself all up, and then was rejected on grounds of her not seeking charity from him, and he then had to beg, borrow and steal his way into her life ... and by the way, it was a false positive ... That could be hilarious. Not least if he got all disappointed at not being her baby-daddy and they ended up going for another round. I like that couple.
