Moving: Episodes 16-17
by quirkycase
There’s a new set of villains in town, and they mean business. It’s an intense week for our superpowered protagonists who aren’t all prepared to fight for their lives. If they’re going to make it, they’ll need all the skill, determination, and teamwork they can muster. The war has officially begun.
EPISODES 16-17
Let’s jump back in where we left off with Gye-do driving like a maniac, trying to find a way to protect the passengers from the clearly dangerous North Korean operative JUNG JOON-HWA (Yang Dong-geun) occupying his bus. He does manage to quickly come up with a plan and somehow gets the bus to the police station without crashing it. But once they arrive, Joon-hwa disappears and Gye-do has to explain what the hell he was doing. Not willing to risk their parents’ wrath, Hee-soo and Bong-seok book it before the police can question them with the rest of the passengers.
At the school, Il-hwan reminisces about the start to his teaching career in 2004, which basically amounts to him doing everything he could to become a Black Agent after being saved by Joo-won on that battlefield years ago. When Deputy Director Min assigned him to identify “talent” (a.k.a. kids with abilities), Il-hwan steps into his role as a teacher without complaint.
However, it’s not long before he starts to butt heads with Principal Jo who is all about bringing out the kids’ powers by any means necessary. It turns out Ki-soo wasn’t the first kid injured during the tests. If a student doesn’t show their abilities quickly enough, Principal Jo orders them to be beat up to force their powers to manifest. In about every way, it’s a flawed plan. Because the first kid ruled out is Gye-do, so oops. A few other kids slip through the cracks, like a kid who can stop time! (Maybe this means Ki-soo has abilities, too.)
The mission is already weighing on Il-hwan who ends up being a surprisingly good teacher, but the devastating blow is when one of his students (x-ray vision woman’s daughter) collapses and dies while doing the tests. He didn’t realize she had cancer. The fact that Il-hwan has the audacity to care about his students and their welfare irks Principal Jo. So in 2015, he brings in Sung-wook as Il-hwan’s assistant (i.e., Principal Jo’s spy). And when Bong-seok enters the school, Il-hwan is ordered to pay special attention to Doo-shik’s son.
In the present, Il-hwan is realizing their hand has been tipped, first with Mi-hyun and then Joo-won. When Joo-won bursts into the meeting room, he and Mi-hyun lock eyes. Their surprise registers for a second, but they quickly recover and say nothing. As she leaves, Mi-hyun does warn him of the room’s hidden CCTV.
And this is when all hell breaks loose. The battle is officially on, and the first in the line of fire is unexpected. Sung-wook is still in Principal Jo’s office secretly watching the ex-agents on the CCTV. He panics and then grows annoyed when the janitor (Yoon Sa-bong) insistently knocks on the door. He lets her in to clean, and she calmly knifes him in the throat. It turns out there’s been a North Korean plant all along. Well played.
The janitor calls in reinforcements, which Mi-hyun overhears from the hallway. She’s not fooled by the janitor’s act, and you know it’s about to go down when Mi-hyun shuts the door behind her after entering Principal jo’s office. A fight ensues, and they’re pretty evenly matched, although Mi-hyun seems a tad better. When the reinforcements arrive, Mi-hyun escapes out the window.
Outside, she has a one-sided snowball fight with the CCTV cameras – her aim is immaculate – and then shuts off the school’s power. She lures the janitor down into the basement, and then kills her with a perfectly aimed bullet to the head. Everyone talks about how amazing of an agent Doo-shik was, which I’m sure is true, but everyone seems to be sleeping on Mi-hyun who is efficient and deadly.
Joo-won and Il-hwan face off with a couple of those reinforcements and refuse to hand over the files. Screams issue from the hallway where more North Korean operatives begin “testing” Ki-soo and Gang-hoon who are unlucky enough to still be in the building. Thankfully, Gang-hoon is on the phone with his mom when he’s attacked. The moment he hears Gang-hoon is in trouble, Jae-man flies (not literally) to the school. In the meantime, Il-hwan rushes to protect Ki-soo, but he’s no match for a superpowered agent. All he can do is cover Ki-soo with his body and beg for him to be spared.
Meanwhile, Bong-seok and Hee-soo are at the gym, blissfully unaware of the danger. Bong-seok adorably cheers her on per usual and then runs over to the convenience store to buy beverages while Hee-soo trains. That’s when Joon-hwa makes his move, slipping into the gym and locking the door. Ack! Joon-hwa finds Hee-soo running laps on the balcony level and casually throws her off (!) to test her abilities. Like her father, she jumps up without a scratch and keeps swinging, which clues him into her regenerative power.
Bong-seok really levels up this week. First, he hears the fighting from outside the door (proof he inherited both parents’ abilities) and runs to the roof. He recalls the advice Mi-hyun passed along to him from Doo-shik: flying is all about not being afraid to fall. Bong-seok sheds his weights and takes off, crashing through the window and catching Hee-soo mid-air after she’s dropped by Joon-hwa. Bong-seok is truly flying and even manages to stick the landing! Our baby is all grown up. Too bad Joon-hwa is there to witness Bong-seok emerging from his cocoon because now he knows there’s another flyer.
Once they land and briefly celebrate Bong-seok’s new skill, Hee-soo’s temper flares. She yells at Joon-hwa to come down and face them. More instinct than strategy, Hee-soo’s isn’t exactly a planner. Her “plan” is basically just for them to charge him and hope for the best. Of course, they’re no match for a trained superpowered operative who swats them away like flies. Hee-soo can take a battering (not that I want her to), but Bong-seok is too breakable for this!
Back at the school, Joo-won fights a massive operative who is crazy strong, and it’s not going well. While Joo-won is beat senseless, his attacker’s unruffled superior KIM DEOK-YOON (Park Hee-soon) helpfully shares that North Korea has an entire division for trained superpowered agents. Interestingly, he blames Doo-shik for everything that’s happening. Outside, Mi-hyun’s ears perk up at that. Signally it’s really on now, she loads her gun and takes off her glasses for the fight ahead.
With that, we head into the finale week. Deputy Director Min was bad enough, but now they’ve got North Korea as an enemy. Right now, I’m worried for the kids who have little to no training – Bong-seok only just figured out how to fly! Thank goodness all their parents are badasses. With Jae-man headed over, all the parents are about to be in the same place for the first time. We’ve seen how they get when their babies are threatened, so I have no doubt the concluding week is going to be intense. Fingers crossed we’ll get some more sweet moments to balance out the tension.

OMG Miiiiii-Hyuuuuuunnn!
She stole the show.
The orchestra music
The slow deliberate walk
The falling snow
The loading of the gun
The removal of the glasses
I used to think Ju-Won or Doo-Sik was the most powerful.
I was wrong.

Moving EP 16-17
Anxiety
Adrenaline
Action
And more Character Development
I could barely breathe during these episodes.
So writer nim, we’ve just had 15 intense episodes of character development. We’re done with that and we’re gonna march on with the plot right?
Writer-Nim: hold my beer, I’ve got one more left.
“The Man Between”
I would have never guessed which character the title referred to.
Agent… NO… I mean teacher Il-Hwan.
I wasn’t expecting his backstory and I was even more surprised to feel so much empathy for a character I previously barely paid attention to. His transformation from an agent to a teacher was so heartwarming. I found myself cheering for him when he found his real self and started to fight for the kids and not the agency. (On another note- the same actor is in the Butt Touching show and to see his transformation here was shocking)
Bong-Seok and Hui-Soo continue their innocent and adorable mutual puppy love for each other. The contrast between the adorable moment Hui-Soo is gently slapping Bong-Seoks face to get him to open his eyes to the (now we are in love) moment when she’s just staring at him. They seem to give each other infinite courage but it’s clear that they will need more than courage.
When the N Korean agent hurt our Cinnabon Bong-Seok, I was triggered, but not as much as Hui-Soo.
The moment when Ju-Won walks in and sees Mi-Hyun. 🫀🫀🫀speechless. I could hear my heartbeat.

“but the devastating blow is when one of his students (x-ray vision woman’s daughter) collapses and dies while doing the tests. He didn’t realize she had cancer”
Well, not really. This was foreshadowed earlier. Naju’s daughter isn’t dead. Naju didn’t want her daughter to “live the life that she lived” and faked her death. You see the daughter at Naju’s funeral when Frank shows up- you see the difficult conversation Naju has with her daughter. Chalk it up to one more amazing parent who would do anything for her daughter.
I love how the writer portrays all the parents. I wonder if the daughter makes a reappearance or better yet Moving season 2

Somehow I got the impression that he left his family to hide Gye-do from the agency: he looked at Gye-do with the kindest eyes, he sent money for uni and living expenses, and made sure to burn Gye-do's side of the photo in his fight with Frank. Too bad he died when they were just starting to reconnect.

The parents will definitely protect their kids from the baddies. I can't wait for next week.
I like that Mi Hyun showed how badass she really is especially when her family is threatened. Even if we know JuWon regenerates, its still painful to see him take a beating. I can't wait for Jae Man to show up and throw his own superpowered punches.
I hope Bong Seok and Hee Soo coordinate their attacks to defeat or escape from the clutches of Joon Hwa. I wonder if Gye Do will be able to help them.
I am glad that there were kids who escaped from the NTDP. It would be great of we can meet up with the kid that can stop time. Also I wonder if Naju's daughter escaped too since I doubt that her daughter is dead. It can be Naju's elaborate plan to get her out of NTDP and Min's list.

I’m also hoping mama bear Mi Hyun put a tracking app on Bong Seok’s phone so that she can go and help too! I’m not convinced Gye Do can save the kids on his own (although I’d be very happy if he did, since he was written off by the NTDP rather dismissively).

@dramadillo I doubt MiHyun could get there on time. The kids have a better chance with getting help somewhere else. With how MH is, she must've put some sort of tracker on him. I hope so.
I think Gyedo has a different motivation when his superpower manifests. Last time it did, he was pissed but he had little control of it. Hopefully he finds a way to control his powers and protect people around him.

I am hoping for a better purpose for him. He looks lost right now and him trying to "save" the kids in his own way made him look alive. We can argue though that he did not think his decision through. I won't be surprised if he need to find another job soon. He can't keep on hijacking those buses without consequences. But I would like his character to end the series with a renewed sense of purpose and better control of his superpowers.

I thought Director Min was a good judge of character and motivation, but he surely misjudged Teacher Il-hwan. Why is anyone surprised about him caring for his students? Hello, his main reason for wanting to be a Black agent was because he cared so much about this platoon.
Cha Tae Hyun playing a highschool student has got to be record holding for being the oldest actor to play the role, and I love it! It's not very convincing looks-wise, but he has such a fun and youthful aura about him. And to think I see some people complain about 30-somethings doing the same. Ha!
I love this show to bits, but I only have one gripe... Why the heck do they keep the kids' records in the school, on paper and written without a secret code or something???

Goodness, this is far and away the greatest webcomic adaptation of all time and it hasnt even ended yet. (Sorry Secretary Kim)
The slight changes they made have benefited the overall story but everything else has basically been beat-for-beat.
Han Hyo-joo has been fantastic throughout.
People have always complain about actresses getting "mom" roles when they near a certain age, but honestly, well written "mom" roles like this are rare.
Also, for a fantasy/superhero story, the characters are surprisingly grounded and relatable, good parents will always fight for their kids even if it means crossing certain ethical and moral lines.

Moving was slow going for me and it only grabbed my interest when the parents' backstories were revealed and these episodes just confirmed for me that they are the standouts. I get that teens/kids will be teens/kids which includes lying, impulsivity, recklessness, etc but it's still so frustating to watch haha. Like you SEE the guy who just non chalantly threw you off a balcony and then was going to drop you from an even higher distance is hoving and the first thought isn't "run" but instead fight? Even if they ran, they probably get away from him but yeah.
I wonder how Ju Won is going to survive against a massive guy with apparently the same powerset as him.
Even if the parents are skilled, it's only 3 of them vs how many NK agents?
And I'm wondering who is in the trunk of the car and when Do Shik is gonna make his reappearance. Has he been brainwashed? Has he been threatened with his family's safety? Have they taking fluids from him to try to enhance or create another generation of superpowered kids?
All in all, my thoughts were the parents' badassery was on display, I liked that the teacher drawing a line in the sand and proclaiming himself a teacher and his instinct was just to try to save his student(s).
(Sidenote: not sure how the teacher could have possibly known the student had cancer. Maybe if there had been a pattern but there wasn't. They went from him giving a consultation (I think; I don't remember) to her mother wanting her to go somewhere to her fainting after being a bit out of it to her dying. But I guess the whole point was to show his compassion and emotionally attachment to the kids so okay.)

I'm really glad the parents finally met again!! I want to see the families come together and SLAY. 😎
Questions:
1. Why did they leave the "future of their country" (the kids) on hands of a regular human being with no powers and no weapons? If it wasn't for the parents, the teacher would probably be dead and the files exposed.
2. I'm pretty sure everyone knew a day like this was coming, so why didn't they give their kids some proper training?
Joo Won ahjussi can say "my kid doesn't get hurt", but what about Mi Hyun?
I know training your kid to learn how to fly could be risky, someone could see him at some point. But technically speaking, everything would've been better if he knew how to fly!
If he knew how to control his powers, he wouldn't need to go around with sand and water. His dad didn't, so yeah, that means it's possible to walk without floating. And not only that, Bong Seok would be able to fly away from danger.
Anyway, I can't wait for the final three episodes!! But at the same time I don't want it to end. 😭 I'm gonna miss Moving so much. 💛

Hum... If it was interesting to see the other kids with powers (so many of them!), I'm tired of the flashbacks. I found interesting they didn't show the face of the boy who can stop time. He seems important to the story if they hide his face.
I think Jang Ju-Won and Lee Mi-Hyun love their child but the lack of communication and learning is putting their kids in danger. Hui-Soo is not very clever... She was talking to a very weird guy like normally, when she should have remembered him from the bus, he couldn't pay and his face is hard to forget... And just trying to fight like this when she's not trained at all and her power doesn't really help to attack was stupid.

Hui-Soo needed to be told about her abilities and trained much before that famous 17 on 1 fight.
We saw how scared Mi-Hyun was when she escaped with Bong Seok but I find it little hard to believe that she would hold on to and constantly instill that fear in Bong Seok for so many years. After all as a trained operative who is said to have topped all her initial exams it feels out of character to let herself be paralyzed with that fear for so long. Deok-yoon (Park Hee-soon) is so cool. After Joo-won fought the Giant and told him, "You're next," he just nodded and calmly answered all right. Then when Joon-hwa called and Deok-yoon held up his hand for Joo-won to wait, omg.
I really think Ki-soo has special abilities. The Il-hwan/Ki-soo scene was so touching. Ki-soo worries about his teacher, while Il-hwan tells him to stay inside, then Ki-soo tries but fails to call for help, and Il-hwan throws himself on top of Ki-soo to shield him from the bullets. Last week, I had wondered if the boy from the sewer was Ki-soo, but his name was Choi Sung-woo, and I doubt that he would've become a bully. I am glad that the final battle will be wrapped by parents, not the children since they are kind of immature and stupid in a childish way no complaints, but previously I assumed the opposite that's why I'm glad hehe. So we have 2 weeks for the end or do they wrap up in a single week, I mean they 2 episodes same day are they gonna release 3?

Wow the rating is currently 9.9 out of 10, that's really something.
But I've lost interest in the show as it is too gory for my taste. I still caught up with the latest ep and will watch until the end but I don't care about anyone's story anymore. I do think Han Hyo Joo is cool though.

The story of Il-Hwan was a pleasant surprise. This busy actor is also in Han River Police!
Kang Full has really elevated his game. Till episode 17 he has not put a foot wrong.
Only Cha Tae-hyun's character - Bungaeman - who was not in webtoon, feels little underwhelming. Hopefully he will get a satisfying character arc in the remaining 3 episodes.
Kang Full says in his latest interview that "the stories would be neatly tied up to suit the viewers' palate though the endings might be slightly different from the original comic".
So when is Wednesday!!??

For all the flak Mihyun is getting for not training Bongseok, let's remember that she sheltered him in order to protect him as advised by Doosik, whose disappearance obviously took a great toll their family unit and cemented the idea that they needed to hide.
Granted, Mihyun should have told Bongseok about his dad and explained why his powers could endanger him. But ultimately this type of parenting rings true to life. She's just another parent who makes certain choices without fully thinking through how those choices may affect their child in the long-run.
It's complicated but it's also simple; Mihyun is not perfect but she loves her son.

Yes, and her priority (and Juwon's) too was to hide the kid from the NIS. No matter how secret the training is, how can they hide a flying ability? The elem school incident was already a hard lesson learnt. The irony was, she did not know that the NIS was on them all along and even built a school near them.

Unpopular Opinion Time:
As much as I appreciate Moving's objective greatness as a well-told story, I don't feel awfully emotionally invested in the characters.
I boil this down to not caring for Bongseok and Huisoo... Sorry I know y'all love them but I just cannot connect with them. Believe me, I've tried. I feel like Kanghoon is the only kid who is living in reality. Kisoo is also living in reality and more interesting for it.
It doesn't help that GYJ's delivery is totally flat to me and all I can see is Naksu-Not-Naksu. But I do believe that watching Bongseok watch Huisoo running laps all day would be really tedious regardless of the actress.
I only really started enjoying the show when the adults took over. I can't wait to see what Mihyun, Doosik and Jaeman will do next (but not Juwon because we know he's just going to keep regenerating until something gives 😂)

Bongseok flying gave me so much life I love him sm & i was so proud of him :')))))))))
I fear for the last 3 eps as we have quite a number of villains (NK & NIS) VS our undertrained kids + parents.

Bongseok (Lee Jeong-Ha) gives me the same kind of vibes as Park Bo-Gum in "Love in the Moonlight:" an infectious smile, a pure heart and resolve. Even Rain identified his talent as charm and charisma and it shines through whenever he's on screen in Moving.

Only three episodes left. I can imagine there will be some loose ends so I'm hoping for a season 2. One thing I noticed many viewers simply glossed over or missed is that the last agent who appeared and apprehended Doo-sik (while Mi-Hyun escapes with Bong-Seok) was, Ma Sang Gu, the same maniac from Operation Seagull. Meaning, he is probably still a NIS black agent and another big bad lurking out there!

Agreed - I thought Doo-Sikhs fate is doomed the minute he appeared as the one arresting him. Evil, evil agent.

This just came to me as I was going through the comments. What if the person in the trunk was Frank? We have not seen him since, and I think a few of us still suspect that he made it out alive. I do hope that it is not Frank though, unless he chooses to fight against the NK agents .

Frank was an American Agent and that group of baddies is from N Korea - so my prediction is that Frank is no more.
