Premiere Watch: L.U.C.A.: The Beginning

Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Crime, mystery, suspense, sci-fi
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: We’ve learned to take dramaland’s sci-fi offerings with a grain of hopeful salt, but that doesn’t mean I don’t keep expecting the best of them. And L.U.C.A. has a few important things going for it: it’s on tvN, it features the wonderful Lee Da-hee finally returning to the small screen, and the PD has dramas like Voice, Black and — wait for it — Liar Game — on his resume. That track record gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of tone, so perhaps this story of an amnesiac with superpowers (Kim Rae-won), and the investigator (Lee Da-hee) who knows more about him than he does, will make my sci-fi-loving heart happy.

Nothing about KRW in the reasons to watch 🤔🤔

"The Beginning" in the title -- are they already planning sequels?

But reasons to watch -- they've got the security guard from Mystic Pop-up Bar & the head nurse from Dr Romantic in the cast.

And Police chef was again a police Chef in Alice :) First episode was like a sequel of Awaken which was over last week :)

Oh only 12 episodes, I guess it was expensive to produce. Or they want to make several seasons like Voice.

Dramaland and their newfound excitement of packing a drama into less amount of episodes (which is great) but with the possibility of might or might not hoping to comeback for a second season (is this..... Great.....?)

But it's Kim Raewon AND Lee Dahee what's not to get excited about?? (Kim Raewon's perm)

KRW's career should be better than it is. He does films too, but he was on the cusp it seems in the mid to late 00s for something bigger. I heard that him not bagging the Daesang for Punch made him dejected. I also heard he's a quiet and aloof guy on set, (Gong Hyo Jin said it, and she always tells it like it is). So I guess that could rub some people off? Dunno, anyways the poster looks awkward to me lol. I hope there's no romance, b/c judging by the poster it looks like one :D

I'm mega on the fence about this one, and it's partly because I think KRW looks ridiculous with that perm. I know that's superficial, but I just can't seem to take him seriously like that.

Really, what leading man looks good in a perm???? Absolutely none. Horors are coming to mind. I squim every time I see a badly curled coif, most recenly 365 Repeat the Year, which was good otherwise.
There should be a term for it, akin to the suspension of disbelief, for the feeling of trying to ignore the perm.

Wow loving Jung Da-eun's flaming red hair colour in the cover poster!

Theres also MBC's omnibus drama Love Scene Number releasing today. I'm curious about Kim Bo-ra's part of the story in it, she dates 3 men at the same time, thats not something we see often in dramas. The other 3 stories seem standard though. Also there is one character who is related to all the 4 main characters. It has just 8 episodes, so an easy Bean.

I knew that I'm now seeking to watch L.U.C.A.: The Beginning today, but I knew it will either have an optional Dramabeans first week or episode 1 review only since in my opinion, I felt confused both lead characters' styles/looks seemingly looked like Train to Busan/Peninsula types among with supporting/minor characters (who they're looked like a sets living in a superhero blockbuster film hits). In titles, L.U.C.A.: The Beginning should follow in my own funny opinion is... hmmm... let me giving my only two funniest confusing dream followups to L.U.C.A.: L.U.C.A.: Chapter 2(?) and L.U.C.A.: The Final Chapter(?).

Sorta want to try this for Lee Da Hee, but I'm not into supernatural dramas much. They're hard to pull off.

I hope this is going to be fun. Whether it is so bad it is good fun or simply good fun, Idk. I am excited regardless.

I like Lee Da-hee. I like that it's 12 episodes. Not hopeful that dramaland will get sci-fi right or that I'll finally like a Kim Rae-won drama. But I'll watch the first episode.

KRW had me confused here cos I knew he looked familiar since I have watched 2 of his movies before yet I can't place him with those curly perms :P
I'll low key watch this while waiting for the 3 new dramas that I'm interested in which will be airing around mid and end Feb :)

"the PD has dramas like Voice, Black and — wait for it — Liar Game — on his resume"

That's an impressive resume. And if the PD stays true to his track record, then expect *alot* of plot twits throughout the drama.

Except when he dropped the ball at the end of "Black" and it rolled out the door and fell off a cliff.
Not sure he can be trusted to bring home a logical ending.

Absolutely hated this, anything about experimenting on animals is a big turn-off. Pity, because KRW is looking really good bit it's all too dark and grim.

I For a moment I thought that picture of Lee Da-hee was of the film actress Kim Min-hee. Which is odd, the two don't look alike at all. Checking out stills from the upcoming drama, this is the least Lee Da-hee-looking Lee Da-hee I've ever seen, which peaks my interest.

She's so dressed down and not at all made up. It's so refreshing to see. Neutral, basic makeup, clothes that look like she just grabbed out of her hamper and threw on, hair a mess. It's the most convincing job I've seen a drama do in a long time of making a heroine look like she's just a normal person doing her job. I mean, she's Lee Da-hee so she still looks like a supermodel even with unkempt, oily-looking hair, but still!
