Also, if DB posted this poll a week ago, I would choose Alhambra for "Drama world I want to live in for a day" category without much thought. But after the most recent turn of events, no thank you. I want to stay sane. Even 1 day in that world would be too taxing for my mental health.

Yeah, looking back it was kind of a meh/bleh year. A lot more dramas, but a lot fewer really good ones. Of all the many I started I don't think I finished more than 20-30%. And many I never started or got past the first episode.

Well, this was an easy poll for me.

I chose I’m Not a Robot, Mother, and/or My Ajusshi for almost everything. Sprinkled in some Just Between Lovers, Waikiki, and Poetry for good measure.

Lee Ji-an is definitely my favorite character this year and tied for all-time favorite, and her being an option almost (almost) makes up for Nam Se-hee not even being an option last year. Yes, I’m still bitter.

Gosh, My Ajusshi was so good.

My most fav character is Kim Shie Eun from Just Dance. I love her complexity, her struggle, her dream, and I relate to her no matter how twist her mind is. The writers really write her with such realism and full of heart.

Second is Lee Ji an from My Ajusshi. Her loneliness, her wanting to be alone but also crave for a true friend. Touch me deeply.

The third fav character is On Joon Young from The Third Charm.

The best and well-executed korean dramas of 2018 for me: Mother, Live, Waikiki, My Ahjussi, Life on Mars, and Sky Castle.

This year actually rekindled my love for korean dramas. The last time I feel this passionate about dramas was probably back in 2012. One thing that my fav dramas have in common is all of them came from cable dramas. Here's to more amazing content from tvn and jtbc. I'm so excited for next year!

Last year favorite character poll didn't include Park Seo Joon's Go Dong Man this year Lee Young Joon, despite both characters being more unique and talked more, than half of characters that were presented here. I see the pattern.

5
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

For real. I was angry with them excluding a lead like Go Dong Man (and instead putting Sun Woo, when it’s obvious that Dong Man was much more fan favorite), but at this point including 3 characters from Poetry and 3 from Hwayugi with Hyun Bin’s character that appeared only for 6 episodes and ignoring Lee Young Joon, who made a splash in drama community this year internationally and in Korea just basically disrespectful. Does beanies have problem giving Park Seo Joon credits for characters that he created and made likable? Like they always exclude him from the list of “favorite characters”.

Not just Park Seo Joon. Where’s Jung Kyung Ho (Life on Mars), Seo In Guk (TSHLYE), Kim Jung Hyun (Waikiki), So Ji-Sub (Terrius)? I’m ok if the category is favorite non-leading character but it obviously isn’t.

A couple of my most entertaining picks.

What show did you drop: The Great Seducer. Show started off great with amazing character chemistry. But wow did it go off rails. I LOVE the American version Cruel Intentions so this was super hard for me.

Best Breakout Performance: Won Jin-Ah. Definitely have a big crush on her now and going to check out everything she's in, in the future.

What Suffering had you glued: Just Between Lovers but I definitely think it's cruel I can't pick multiple ones.

And on a side note, I completely forgot about Misty even though I enjoyed the show when it was on, even with that ending.

I didn't see their relationship as a love one. If Ji An had feelings for him, I think he cared for her but not as a lover. But it was a nice relationship.

Basically the people who watched MA are divided into two groups. The ones who believe it was just a good friendship and he sees him as a kid who needs to be protected and the people who think their relationship wasn’t utterly platonic but he was a decent man who didn’t use this as a great opportunity to take revenge on his wife for cheating and being loyal for twenty years and his pure nature never let him think about another woman and he, himself was deep down was shocked to realize how happy he is when he spends time with her but that LONG handshake at the end somewhow gave the impression that the dinner Ji An is about to take him to is gonna be the beginning of a new era in their lives.
Both these groups can be right at some levels. Imagination is a gift to human beings ☺️

I also did a few cameos throughout the year.

The island in Top Star - my breakout performance, in line for Best Actress ( Inanimate Category) for next year's Baeksang Awards. Wish me luck, guys.

The wood in Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter

I think it was a good year for dramas.

I particulary liked Pretty Noona and Third Charm because they were not like the other dramas. They told a story that feels very real. There are no : the nice won and the villain is punished, the love changes all their life, no big happy ending, etc just life with its good and bad moments, and heroes who are not perfect and don't completely change during the drama. The both dramas are like movies but longer :)

This year lacked good sageuk, so I have big expectations for 2019 :D

4

Required fields are marked *

I loved Noona before it didn’t feel real to me—I.e. obstructionist mother. I only watched the first few episodes of Third Charm. I’m glad someone enjoyed it because several people thought it fell flat towards the end. Oh, and I don’t remember if I asked, how was your Goblin Quebec trip last year?

I agree a less psychopath mother would have been better. But they're still the best couple for me and not only for all the kisses scenes but for scenes like the voicemail confession, the one when he helped her to get dressed, all the umbrella's scenes, etc.

For the Third Charm, I didn't have expectations, so the end didn't bother me.

My trip in Canada was great! Hotter than I thought ( I was hoping for 25°C and we had 35°C...). We saw whales, bears ! I loved to sleep in the Frontenac Castel! The weather was very humid, so we stayed in our room and it was so niiiiceee. The only snag was that I sprained my ankle pretty badly. Happily, it was at the end of the trip, so it didn't bother too much.

I was only able to vote with honesty where My Ajussi, Waikiki, Life on Mars, Red Moon Blue Sun and in some cases Mr.Sunshine was present. Didn't watch JBL, if I did it too would've probably been added to the list.
BTW, it's SOOO fun to read the captions(?) as usual!

why is Sky Castle not in most of the lists? It is THE BEST drama of 2018!!!

I was surprised SKY Castle didn't receive any beans in the Bean Count when it is the best drama of the year.

I am eternally salty that Children of Nobody/Red Moon Blue Sun is so underrated that it didn't appear in the Favourite Drama Series of 2018 category *ugly tears* ahhh well, at least I had AYHT and HMSFTS.

I feel strangely awful that some of the series here are ones I haven't been able to watch yet. I need to do better and start catching up, and I'll make sure I'm more in-tune in 2019.

I agree its spectacular. A call back to the great dramas of the past several years..Forest of Secrets and Signal come to mind. It is so beautifully written and acted.

Completely agree. I was surprised to see so few people nominating it on the MDL awards page too, for me it's the stand-out show of the year. The whole tone of it reminds me of Signal with a little twist of Twin Peaks and Donnie Darko.

It does deserve more attention than its getting! Though I have to admit I would hesitate to vote it best series without knowing how its going to end...but on the other hand I like it enough now that I might be willing to forgive it no matter what happens next ^^

This has been such a sad year for me that I can barely vote in 50% of these categories! :(

Hwayugi would have probably been my favourite if it hadn't broken my heart with the last 2 episodes. This is why I have trust issues.

Gangnam Beauty and Just Between Lovers are tied for me. Also, where is Miss Hammurabi???

I wanted to vote only for Miss Hammurabi, but it's nowhere on the list!

My two faves were Your House Helper and Thirty but Seventeen. My taste is quirky. There is a lot of melo on these lists. Perhaps there was just a lot of melo this year? In any case, not my thing.

It seems like you enjoy heartwarming shows? I found Just Between Lovers and My Ajusshi to be slow and hard to watch at times, but ultimately heartwarming. Melo usually isn't my thing either. I really enjoyed Your House Helper and Thirty but Seventeen too.

Dear Dramabeans, have you ever heard drama titled "Miss Hammurabi" ? I'm really really confused (and pissed off) because it wasn't appear on any of these lists. You even put Hyun Bin's character (MOA) for the favourite character nomination when the drama just aired 6 episodes. Like seriously????

"Your song" saved episode 2. At least IMO. But also a bit biased towards the song.

Sam Kim for the win!

I searched for Husband Oh Jak-doo or people who starred in it in every category! Glad Jak-doo is nominated as one of the best male leads. I'm now satisfied.

And this show is actually my fovorite show this year :)
