Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

When you are so nice to EVERYBODY but act so cold toward just ONE person who obviously has a big crush on you. What would be the reason?

A. You don’t like her 💔. You don’t want to give her any hope.
B. You like her❤. You really don’t know what to do.
C. You actually have feelings🌹 for her but she is standing between you and your beloved Haneu-nim🙏. You have to push her away.

Please tell me. I really want to understand you, Professor Garden.

Also, Writer-nim please don’t sink my ship.

    Hospital playlist?

But do remember, this is supposed to be 3 seasons, 36 episodes of 1.5 hours each.

    Female Lead is Song Hwa

And writer is reply series person.. and is clearly back to husband hunting game 🙂

Now, whether the writer wants to take
    A) i will unravel the story gradually route
    B) I will take the same route as 88 – best friends, too friendly to couple (IJ-SH)
    C) I will take the usual kdrama route of guy being incapable of expressing his feelings for the supposed love life and be cold towards her (Jhang) or be on the periphery (Song Hwa) .. lol

Just sit tight and watch.. don’t haste into anything until mid of season 2 happens

    1
    1

Well. I don’t know about ss2,3 that’ll come in the future. I don’t get his behavior as of now. I mean if he doesn’t want her to like him for whatever reason, he should’ve just told her. Like Song-Hwa did to Shi-Hong. Being cold and treats her differently from the way he treats the rest of the world is kinda too harsh and coward-ish, in my opinion.

      0
      3

But you see Ahn clearly said “i like you” so SHwa could clearly reject
Jhang has not, she attempts to get close.. hence JW rejects all of her advances.. and obviously can’t say anything directly..

If she were to propose, only then can he say yes or a no

        0
        1

Song-Hwa was the ONE who first asked Chi-Hong: “Do you like me?”
Then reject him straightforwardly on the spot. That’s what a Prof. should do to the resident they’re attending.

After Kyeo-Wool request a private dinner with him, he should’ve grab that chance to come clear with her. Considering her personality, she’d admit she likes him if ever asked directly. Then he’ll be able to say; “Don’t be like that”. Instead, he chooses to lie that he’s busy.

I know everyone has their own way dealing with things in their life. I just don’t appreciate his. That’s just my humble opinion.

          1
          2

You can never have the one right way

            different personalities, different treatment..
sometime you don’t want to say it upfront and give strong hints.. and other person should be receptive to non verbal hints.. like jhang would back off now, i guess

            0
            0

but yes, at the end of day. your guess is as good as mine..
            we are no where 🙂

            0
            0

also, JW just may be uncomfortable with her, and her approach towards him..you never know

        0
        0

I thought the drama made it pretty clear that she (Winter) was rejected? That’s why she gave up, and accepted the blind date?

        1
        1

She gave up after learning that he lied to her in order to avoid having a meal. He didn’t say it outright.

          That’s why I don’t really appreciate his tactic. I prefer Song-Hwa’s method.

          1
          2

i say for all the pain chilbongie received.. he should totally get to hook up with all the girl..

turn him into a cassanova 😛

            0

            Ah, yes. That was cowardly.

I don’t know how to write fanfic but I might just learn if the writer sinks the WinterGarden ship. I’d need a way to heal my broken heart. I may have to start now though. I mean, the man seems dead set on being a priest.

Hospital Playlist Ep.3

There are several types of GOOD doctor;

the Cool and Friendly Lee Ik-Joon.
the Tsundere but Compassionate Kim Joon-Wan.
the Stern but Understanding Chae Song-Hwa.
the Dedicated and Cute An Jung-Won.
the Introverted and Ma-Ma boy Yang Suk-Hyung.

Really feel like Joon-Wan and Kyeo-Wool are the same type. He’s just older and more experienced.

8

Looks like I’ll be on a marathon catching up all 8 episodes today. Surprising fact is that I found myself smiling all the time watching these doctors go through their days. Be it happiness or sadness. Really connected with Suk-Hyung in recent episodes. I’m also a mama girl myself.

The King Ep.5
Kyahhhhhhhhh….That Kiss. Didn’t expect it’d come this early. Gon must be bearing a loooooot of feelings toward her. More than we’re told.

The Thing is this show puts lots of bread crumbs all over then reveals them bits by bits here and there. Like the PLACE we’re wondering where Gone often visits when he’s gone missing. Turns out there’s actually a special place between the two worlds. He’s there so many times until he figures out part of its logic. Love it that he’s such a NERD.

Everyone’s reaction about this whole alternate universes is so real and natural. They’re all skeptical but didn’t entirely shut down the idea or evidence laying in front of their eyes. They didn’t make a fuss about it either but are being very careful with their moves. Having everything checked out first and foremost.

I really appreciate the writer making these characters intelligent people. You can not knowing EVERYTHING and still be witty. You just have to look for answers. If it were in other dramas, we’d have Tae-Eul wandering around the Kingdom with packs of fish-out-of-water scenes and looks completely dumb. Instead, she uses search engine (now this is REALISTIC, googling or in this case might be navering is the go-to approach not going to the library, HEE) to find all the info she needs to know in order to spend her day(s) in this whole new world.

Speaking of searching. Who actually lookup for King Lee Ho & Lee RIM on Gon’s phone? Only 2 persons were shown touching it; Tae-Eul and Yeong. Yeong wouldn’t have to bother searching since he should’ve known too well. Tae-Eul? Why? or did I miss something again?

I really enjoy this episode. Partly because the mysteries are getting more and more interesting. Mainly because of how Gon’s getting all smitten with Tae-Eul.

L❤VE him.
HEE.

Hospital Playlist Ep2.
I entered into this world because of the Winter Garden couple, so naturally, I found myself being drawn to their story than the others’.

Kyeo-Wool: +1p, for being who she is doing what she does.
Jung-Won: -1p, for being too dramatic with Kyeo-Wool.

I KNOW…I KNOW
I’m being biased toward Kyeo-Wool. I just LOVE her. She’s someone I can totally, totally relate to. So, I’m taking her side no matter what.

Jung-Won’s right. Most people wouldn’t be happy if a doctor approaches them like that. I just appreciate her straightforwardness. When she realizes she made a mistake she apologizes right away. I’d love it if they showed her saying sorry to the mother instead.

The perfect dialogue would be:
Jung-Won: BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH…
Kyeo-Wool: All the thing I said was just a fact but I admit I was too insensitive on that CPR comment, I’ll go apologize to the patient’s guardian after you’re done making a fuss with me.

Jung-Won’s using the same approach lecturing Kyeo-Wool. Being frank. Throw it into her face. (plus all the LET ME TELL YOU MY LITTLE INFERIOR RESIDENT remarks). It’s not ok for a doctor to do that to patients and their families but you can do it to her because she’s a resident in your hospital, HUH?, Mr. Ex-Chairman’s-Son-Dear-Daddy-Long-Leg?

Okay, I should stop. The more I write, the more double-standard I sound. Bias is indeed very dangerous.

(Since I’ve been spoiled the future episodes – by Youtube, THANK YOU very much – I know Kyeo-Wool will have a crush on you. So I’ll ship you guys, though. Just because I want her to be happy. Nothing more. Nothing less. HEE.)

Decided to start Hospital Playlist because youtube KEEP suggesting the WinterGarden couple and my poor heart couldn’t resist it.

I literally cracked up when Song-Hwa starts singing. (Jeon Mi-Do in real life is a very talented musical actress. Jo Jung-Suk & Yoo Yeon-Suk as well.) Don’t know how they can play that scene without laughing to death.

I’m loving this drama. Considering it’s from the same production team as Reply(s), I’m not surprised. Heart-warming and entertaining.

On the “Invocation of the Dead” poem from The King Ep3;

I was wondering if it’s actually about Love or Death

Well, after a bit of researching..
Turns out to be both. The incantation for calling out your loved one who’s left this world. The way to express one’s mourning.

So, as much as I hate it to be, this is supposed to foreshadow someone’s death. My money is still on Tae-Eul’s. Though it might be temporary since Gon is equipped with the time-travelling ability. Right?

But if this actually happen…DANG! Does she have to die in every Kim Eun-Sook’s drama?

I was trying very hard to find the reason why Goblin‘s ending was so heart-breaking to me but that of Hotel Del Luna wasn’t. Now I know. It’s the CLOSURE those characters get before death do them part.

For Kim Shin and Ji Eun-Tak, after all the ordeals they’ve been through. They finally get back together. Just to get their happiness snatched away by that truck of doom. They don’t get to say a PROPER good-bye. If they didn’t have the privilege to meet again in the Grim Reaper’s tea shop, then that phone call would be their last conversation.

Also, Kim Shin is still immortal, the condition in which he’s trying to escape from the start of the drama. For him to shake off this state, he needs help of his Goblin’s bride. It makes him fall in love with her. Die as he wished. Only to come back again because he loves her too much. Then SHE is the one who die? Though she returns to him at then end, it doesn’t feel right since he’s still, once again, IMMORTAL. She will eventually die again. And then WHAT? I know she still has 3 more lifetimes left (as the drama told us, each person has a total of 4, Eun-Tak’s was the first). Then WHAT? When she runs out of her count, what would happen to HIM? That’s a TRAP! He has NO way out!

While, Jang Man-Wol and Gu Chan-Sung know it from the very beginning what lies ahead of them. They’re moving toward the same goal, to set her free, and even get a proper closure (lying on the same bed sharing the same dream). Their next lives would be an equally fresh start for both of them (and all the party involved).

This is the reason why, while I enjoy The King a lot, I still can’t trust Kim Eun-Sook wholeheartedly.

My thoughts exactly. The poem spelled doom to me.

I wonder why Court Lady looked shocked at seeing it. Maybe the poet was a portal traveler too?

Goblin’s ending was pointless imho. He’s still immortal. She still dies. FATE a.k.a. butterfly god rules.

The King Ep4;

So it took a few months for Gon to finally let Tae-Eul know his name and for her to finally believe all the parallel universe craps he’s been saying (not that I blame her, I’d be the same until I get to see some pieces of evidence, just like her). Nice! Such a push-and-pull relationship these 2 are going to get themselves into.

Okay, things are getting even more and more complicated. I think I’ll stop theorizing and just will only be observing.

Obvervation1: Is it just coincidence or Yeong & Eun-Seob are actually connecting because the boundary between the two worlds has been continuously compromised?

SmartSelect_20200426-092916_Chrome.gif

Observation2: Prince BuYeong is the late King Lee Ho’s cousin but his family got all exiled because what Rim did 25 years ago (I still don’t get the connection, though). Gon is questioning his loyalty (I would too. He seems to be genuinely nice but we’ve seen this type of villain more than enough in dramaland) based on Rim’s autopsy report he provided back then.

Observation3: Shin-Jae’s background is really interesting. He could’ve even been a lead in a separate drama (if and only if he’s not going to the evil side). His Kingdom’s identity is yet to be revealed but feels like it’s going to be woven into the main story too. Hopefully, they’ll not just use him for the jealousy antics for Gon&Tae-Eul. I’m able to get into his character and forget about Oh Dae-Gi in this episode.

And, doesn’t this scene remind you of Gon&Yeong’s; “The king doesn’t like to be touched” from ep1? The double wrist-grabbed never gets old! HEE. Jang-Mi (Rosé) is such a soft cutie.

SmartSelect_20200426-093645_Chrome.gif

This is not an observation but…
Don’t these two look so beautiful as father and son?

King Lee Ho & Crown Prince Lee Gon:

10
8

I feel Shin Jae is a very important character. His background is revealed more than Gon 😅

    3
    1

    More observations:
    – The phone Tae-Eul is investigating belongs to the Kingdom?
    – Does Uncle plan to get all the ROK doppelgänger to the KOC and take their places? Because those who live well in Corea would live a low life in the Republic, it’s easier to persuade them to become his evil army (Happily N’Ever After-esque). Faces seen so far; Captain Choi Ki-Tae (Gon’s former supervisor), Prince BuYeong (Professor Lee Jong-In), the pregnant lady (don’t recognize her, who is she?).

    1
    1

Shin-jae could be the son of Uncle’s minion, in Corea. Mom is seen going into a bookstore (ep3), Uncle gets his info about the Corea from a bookstore. Uncle said that minion owns a bookstore in Corea.

Of course, that’s just me 😅

    1

Agree, I sighed too many times at the father & son scene. These two are really pretty and genuinely look like father and son. Great casting!

The King Ep3;

Kang Shin-Jae
– He was born in 1987, same as Lee Gon.
– His family was once rich. When he was in 9th grade something happened, his mom becomes a gambler(?) and they fall into great debt.
– He had seen the Empire Royal Logo. It’s disturbing him. Is there any connection with uncle?
– His history with Tae-Eul is so rich. (He almost went to the wrong side but her dad suggested him being a cop.) There must be something really significant in their back story. Otherwise they wouldn’t put so much screentime showing it.
– Honestly, I couldn’t take him seriously here because I keep reminded of his Oh Dae-Gi role from ‘Where Stars Land’.

Lee Gon
– He was not as clueless as I thougth. He knows how the portal works. He just choose to stay in the Republic to get to learn more about Tae-Eul and this parallel world.
– He also has the idea that uncle might still be alive. He has been secretly collecting clues and connecting dots. I love it, that he’s really calm and smart and somewhat resilience (yet cocky at the same time). Instead of getting frustrated, he’s trying hard to look for answers and understand the situation he’s dealing with. A true scientist mindset.
– His back shoulder, not his scar(?), is hurting.
– Does time freeze every time someone crossing between two worlds(?)
– the book he was reading at the end. Noh Sanggung has been reading it to him(?)

The piece titled ‘Invocation of the Dead’ (who are they trying to invoke?)

Oh, shattered name!
Oh, the name that parted in the air!
Oh, the name without an owner!
The name I will die calling!
I could not finish the last word I had in my heart.
The one I loved!
The one I loved!

(The following part was left out in the episode)

The red sun hanging on the peak of Western mountain.
The weeping herd of stag.
On the far far away mountain,
I call your name.

– Him being left out by Tae-Eul and Shin-Jae, and getting jealous is both funny and pitiful. Hahaha.

Uncle Lee Rim
– He has an inside man in the palace!
– His men has been meeting every year at a particular time like it’s some sort of ritual(?)
– He intentionally left (well, 1/2 of) the flute at Gu Priminister’s home. She seems genuinely doesn’t know what it is, so at this point they are not yet working together.
(P.S. the Priminister is such a whining little girl at home. And is she also from Busan? What lies in Busan anyway? Everything seems to be revolving around it.)

I don’t have much to say about Tae-Eul this episode and I feel like the story is moving quite (by quite I mean reeeeeally) slow.

8
3

    – The importance of number zero ‘0’ is emphasized.
    – The drama trailer also mentioned they are crossing beyond the boudary between 1 and 0.
    – Drama name includes 0 as 영원 eternity
    – The captiin of Royal guard name happens to be 0 (Yeong).

    3
    0

    Lee Ji-Hoon the Korean Gon
I’m quite sure he’s not dead but the question is where is he or who he has become? When the drama subtly tell us that Shin-Jae and Gon were born on the same year, I suddenly think of the possibility that they are each other doppelgänger. Gon might even have the same idea because he tested his hooded appearance when they met (confront) in front of Tae-Eul house. But no recognition was seen from Gon. It shouldn’t be him, should it?

Then where is Ji-Hoon, which side does he stand? With uncle? Or With Gon?

Saw one interesting theory on youtube that Ji-Hoon was the one who go back to 1994.

The 2 worlds separated in the Joseon era but the Manpashikjeok was made during the Shilla era. That means the Republic of Korea must also have its very own Manpashikjeok too. With that perfectly untouched flute, in stead of the recombined 2 halves, would bring Ji-Hoon back to save Gon.

    3
    0

Turns out (based on Ep4) the book is from ROK. Tae-Eul mentioned Kim So-wol (the poet) so Gon goes look for his book and comes across this one. He takes the book back to KOC with him and maybe later Noh Sanggung reads it. The scene is confusing as it leads me to think they were reading it in the past.

So if the last time the universe split was because the crown prince Sohyun who was supposed to pass early but instead lived long (did he also go back in time and save himself?). Another split in 1994 with another crown prince living instead of dying doesn’t sound so crazy now right?

2
0

Crazy theory: the scars on the opposite side of young & adult Gon’s neck are not just a mere mistake. They intentionally put it like that to represent the alternate reality of the event.

4
7

This whole alternate universe is all about antithesis; good vs evil, rich vs poor, up vs down.

    0
    2

      List of antithesis…
      Country: Empire vs Republic
      Dad: king vs abusive alcoholic
      Uncle: evil vs disable
      Gon’s Scar: left vs right
      Tae-Eul/Luna: police vs criminal (?)
Young vs Eun-Sub: stoic vs goofy

      And more to come.

      0
      0

      One more,

      City: Seoul vs Busan

      0
      0

One interesting remark is from the recent interview where Lee Min-Ho’s description of Luna (Jung Tae-Eul’s Corea Empire persona) being ‘독기’ – a poisonous character How bad could she be? Doesn’t sound like she’s just some pickpocket but something far more evil.

Hmmm….is she a witch like Cara in Suicide Squad?

The reflection in KGE’s car was scary and kinda witch-like 😅.

      1

Makes sense! Yesterday saw a gif that made me realize that when Rim attacked Korean Gon, the kid grabbed a crowbar just like the one the cop squad is suspecting has been used in the homicide case… Maybe instead of killing the kid (no body!) Rim used him for his nefarious deeds and f*cked his head up.
But then, that would mean that either Jo Young or Jo Eunseub would be evil 😱 (only watched one KES drama, Mr Sunshine, and the baddies in that one were horrific, I don’t want to hate neither of them!)

    1
    1

Yeah, that’s fishy. The way they kind of lead us to think the Korean Gon got killed but never mention it straightforwardly. Then evil uncle let mom lives. Surely, he must have some plan using her for his evil deed.

Extraordinary You Ep10 (19-20)

HaRu ya….
How can you be such a smoothie?

Dan-Oh must be trying really hard to get herself together in front of him. Arghhh. Look at how his smile gets wider and wider. I have no idea how she can put up with this.

This episode definitely feels like the calm before the storm. I’m bracing myself really tight right now. Come what may, I’m totally prepared.

And oh, Do I need to pay my attention to this book??????????

Only 6 episodes to go, you’d better start to give me some answer, please. I’m begging you.

17
4

OMG.. take a closer look. Isn’t that after he took a glance at her lips he’s grining from ear to ear. My heart-rate monitor is screaming!!!!

    0
    0

Now, I think Dan-Oh is at the Bargaining stage of grif. She’s afraid if she tries to go against the Writer again, others would get hurt, especially HaRu. She has experienced it first hand and still blaming herself on that. So, she thinks if she stays a good girl (10-year one-sided love & heart-disease) quietly as the Writer wants, she would get to be happy with HaRu and all her friends, at least in the Shadow, before she gets killed off of the story. Don-Oh loss of passion is understandable and heart-wrenching. She still wants to live happily but if that comes in the cost of her friends’ (well, her love) lives, she wouldn’t risk it ever again.

By the way, what happen to a character when they die in the story? Do they go straight back to the character warehouse? Or do they get to stay in the Shadow unnoticable until the story ends?

Since Secret is supposed to be somewhat a redemption of Flower, because something happened and it ended tragically, I wonder what Fate the Writer has prepared for the three of them (Baek Kyung & Dan-Oh & HaRu).

    4
    0

    Baek Kyung…

His goal is clear, to restore the statud quo he’s lost. Dan-Oh and everyone’s attention has been totally shifted from him to HaRu. On one hand, I feel really bad for him because it seems like he’s been pushed to the villain side (by everyone including he himself). I can see he’s trying (without much success) to explain and convince Dan-Oh that he’s not as bad as his Stage persona (babe, you have to admit you’re not much better in Shadow). But that’s because he likes her. On the other hand, he’s still a jerk to everyone else. He can not control his temper and always lashes out when he’s frustrated. I can’t blame Dan-Oh (and others) for not fully understanding why he’s being like this. I think he doesn’t even fully understand himself. They are just high school kids after all. But I do hope they will join force pretty soon to fight against the Writer who is the real villain in this story.

    4
    0

    Speculations:

    Flower
    Excalibur-esque.
    Kyung = Arthur, Dan-Oh = Guinevere, HaRu = Lancelot.
Originally, Kyung & Dan-Oh should’ve ended up together happily and HaRu sacrificed himself for Kyung. But HaRu & Dan-Oh gain self-conciousness first (Kyung might also have later) and fell in love. They tried to change the story. When the Writer knew, s/he took full control over her/his rebel characters only to pushed them further to the edge. Eventually, s/th happened and Dan-Oh died instead of HaRu.

That’s why she cannot remember anything from her past. Only her sub-councious remembers him.

    Secret
The Writer tries to make it up to Kyung and at the same time punish Dan-Oh and HaRu. So s/he makes Dan-Oh his fiacée again but this time he gets to play the upper hand being the pertect guy who’s good at study and sports (defective family is just a little drama added for him to have the reasonable excuse to be a jerk to her), while she gets a weak heart. This time she’s the one who goes head over heels for him. Also, HaRu becomes the faceless extra with almost non-existence.

What I’m not so sure of is that if Dan-Oh was supposed to die here in Secret, how would that make Kyung happy? His self-aware persona likes her, no doubt. But what about his Stage character? If he likes her, wouldn’t he be devastated when she dies?

If they didn’t share the past lives together, this would be a totally different scenario. But the Writer has been giving the impression that s/he is not so creative and improvident by nature so all of my above theory could be completely irrelevant. Let’s see how it turns out to be. Only 6 episodes to go for this amazing drama.

ExtraOrdinary You Ep9 (17-18)

Okay, I forgive you, Show! For hurting my poor heart and making me cry for the previous 2 episodes. This one is worth waiting. Just to see Dan-Oh smiling so brightly is enough for me. But you also add the still gentle yet very assertive HaRu on top of that. This is everything I’m hoping for when I signed up for the show.

The mystery is still mostly mysterious. The Flower (I prefer the name over Trumpet Creeper, to be honest) manhwa is giving Arthur-Guinevere-Lancelot vibe. And now we’ve been clearly told that they ended up in tragedy (according to Dried Squid). I wonder if HaRu was really the male lead in that manhwa??? What if, just what uf, it was Baek Kyung? But the self-aware Dan-Oh and Haru were really falling in love off Stage then eloped together? I don’t want to overthink again considering the way I was trolled by the plot hole last episode (Baek Kyung blindly not noticing himself in Flower). But it was so fun, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking.

Also, why do I find Baek Kyung’s ridiculous outrageous behavior so funny???? I mean look at how he throws a tantrum here.

He’s like a spoiled brat (he’s always been) who has just learned for the first time that the world doesn’t evolve around him. In contrast to the three musketeers who always stick together helping each other, he is pushing himself to the darkest corner with no one on his side. He’s so jealous of HaRu because the HaRu seems to now have everything that (he thought) belongs to him. Including, Dan-Oh, Do-Hwa, and even his popularity. I know he’s not going to watch from the side but I just want him to realize that being like a naughty little boy is not going to help him either. I love that both Dan-Oh and HaRu was giving him the lecture and I hope it will sink in soon.

#ExtraOrdinaryYou #AgainandAgain

How did the manhwa books end up in the library? Did Jin Mi-Chae bring them? If so, why would he do that? If not, and if it was the Writer who put them there, then burning them would be useless since they will restore themselves onto the shelf anyway. Right?

I’m so obssessed withbthe drama so I’m just killing my free time thinking about these trivial things while waiting for the next episode. Hee. 😁

It’s sort of useless to think at this point. It has plot holes upon plot holes.
They didn’t define the limits of their world or explain how exactly it works.
The writer has been left as a megalomaniac God or something.

    3
    2

oh!.. you wait for the ending 🙂
      i.e. if drama follows manga..
and by ending i’m referring to author’s ending.. not the characters’

      1
      1

No, I’m pretty sure the drama’s ending will be similar to the manhwa July found by Chance.
It’s useless because the Flower manhwa turning from Flower to Nun Seo Hwa, & appearing magically in the bookshelf is just one of the many plot holes & nigglers of this drama.

When you have BK as a walking talking contradiction, what’s a little book?

        3
        1

          I wonder..
i don’t see book appearing on the bookshelf a plothole.. if at all it is very much in line with the theme of the show..

plothole would be when laws of manga world change.. like in one situation x happens, but same set of variables and y happens

          3
          1

They addressed the issue in the drama, as Jin Mi-Chae wondered out loud: “Why does the book always end up on its shelf in the library?”. So I don’t see this as a plot hole yet since they (the drama writers) acknowledged it. If they don’t clarify it at the end (but, honestly, I think they will), only then it’ll become a plot hole to me.

      @maybemaknae
It’s quite amazing to have these tiny details to think about when we don’t yet get to see what really happen (or never get to see at all). What’s the fun having a drama that will be forgetten as soon as the episode ends?

      1
      0

I wondered about that too. Why do these books ALWAYS end up at the library?? Also, are there multiple copies of the same volume? Because sometimes, it feels like it, what with so many people flipping through the pages…

    6
    3

      that’s like a fantasy element..
if you can accept that characters are becoming self aware.. having the comic around them kind of goes hand in hand

      4
      0

I feel that way too. Just how many copies are floating around? Where do they come from? I get the writer might be cheeky & drew secret manhwa cover as part of the library books, but then why would they draw Flower? Unless it was deliberate & like an Easter egg for the irl author’s readers.
This show raises many questions but doesn’t bother to answer even the ones it itself raised in it.

      3

yes.. 🙂 that’s why i say, wait for the ending.. it fits

I initially thought the books are easter eggs too. They are there in the story because the Writer put them there.

That’s why I wonder what’s the point to have Jin Mi-Chae burning them? He might forget the fact that everything will be reset as soon as the next Stage begins. If that’s the case, then it will be a plot hole because he, of all people, knows, more than well, about the rules of their manhwa world.

        2
        0

Flower might serve as a prequel to Secret. The manhwa Writer seems to be obsessive & compulsive. S/He reuse a lot of elements from the Flower and put them in Secret, the characters & the scenes and even the dialogue.

        0

      @kethysk
I have the impression that there’s only one copy of each (1 for Flower (or Trumpet Creeper or Trumpet Vine or 능소화) and 1 for Secret) in the story. People are taking turn reading. That’s why it keeps missing and they have to go around looking for it when they need reference. Jin Mi-Chae gets a hold of both books quite more often than the others, however, he also complains the book keeps returning to its shelf in the library.

      1
      1

I might have missed the part where Jin Mi-Chae complains about the books going back to the library, then. because I feel like he almost always has them, at the same time as an unfortunate soul is discovering them.

          DB Episode 6 recap;

She’s surprised to find Mi-chae in the library this time, and he explains that he’s there a lot because the “Secret” manhwa keeps returning to its shelf. Dan-oh tells him that Do-hwa is adjusting well, but she’s still struggling because she heard she’s dying. Mi-chae has read that scene, but she orders him not to look at her so pityingly because she’s still planning to change her fate.

          2
          0

    Clarification;

My original question would be: How did the manhwa books end up in the story?

At first, I thought they’re easter eggs the manhwa Writer playfully hide (in plain sight) in the story. Dried Squid, for some reason, learned about them and got a hold of them purely for his own amusement. It almost feels like he enjoys watching these characters, including himself, playing along the roles determined by the Writer. The first half of the drama, it looks like he’s teaming up with the writer and acting like the gate-keeper to make sure no one messes up the Fate.

But as time goes by, he seems to be resentful about his own fate too. When he ran into Nam-Ju’s mom and was forced to be polite to her (whom he clearly seems to hold some grudges against), he thought: It’s the worst when you are a character whose actions are in complete control of the writer. So, I started to lean on the idea that he might have had some bad experiences trying to change the fate himself (I’ve read this theory through some other beanines’ post). Maybe in Flower, Nam-Ju’s mom was the mother of the girl he loved but she didn’t approve their relationship. So, they ended up in tragedy.

Ahh, I can think of a plenty of theories but as much information as we have, it’s not enough to be sure as of now. Please continue to surprise me, Show! I’m trusting you.

didn’t BK ask for a copy in ep 8..
seems one copy of secret that everyone keeps playing pass the parcel with 😛

More thoughts on Baek Kyung;
(the more I say I hate him, the more I think about him, am I crazy?)

His personality hasn’t changed a bit once he gains self-awareness. He’s still the same old moron he used to be. The way he lashes out in the Shadow on his own (crooked) family and even disrespects Dan-Oh’s dad because he knows they wouldn’t remember any of it, proves what I have been thinking; “He’s a jerk”.

But, then, what has been changed? Personally, I think the only difference is his feelings for Dan-Oh.

9
4

In one of their interviews, the casts take turn asking each other’s character questions.
And for Kyung the questiong goes; “You like Dan-Oh, right? Do you like her because you, youself, (really) like her or because of HaRu (who shows up out of nowhere and potentially be taking her away)?
His answer; “I’m not sure, but she is mine from the beginning. He can’t just take her. No way.”

If they’re in-character while answering these questions (I believe they were), this indicates he has a lot of sense of possession. While still confused about his feelings for Dan-Oh, he intuitively claims her as his possession. He took her love for granted for 10 years but he senses that it might not be the case anymore. Now that he is falling in love for real (if any of this can be real), his attitude and behavior towards her has changed. Sure, he also feels empathy for her siuation and that’s a result of his affection. He doesn’t show this kindness to others when he fully aware they are just doing what they do because of their character set up.

He realizes if he approaches her in the same (no) manner, he wouldn’t have a chance of winning her back. And we know, in dramaland, bad boy who falls in love can turn lovey-dovey in the blink of an eye. Take Lee Hyuk as an example. Does that make him less of an ass, NO! Is it swooney, YES definitely!

    6
    0

HaRu existence definitely plays a big part catalysing this change.

In the process of waking up, and also after become fully self-aware, Baek Kyung always approaches and tests HaRu’s feelings towards Dan-Oh. First, he said he’s toying with her to see if HaRu really cares. Then he tests if HaRu trully lost his memory by ordering him to give things to Dan-Oh on his behalf. He knows HaRu is a big threat to his and Dan-Oh predetermined relationship. He copes with his own jealousy by making HaRu jealous instead.

    4
    0

The more I know Kyung, the more I sympathize him (but may I repeat he’s still a jerk?)

It’s heart-breaking to see him asking Dan-Oh if any of their history ever be REAL to her (as it is real to him). He looks completely dejected upon hearing her answer and I want to go in to give him a big HUG (once again, you’re still a jerk). The ONLY love you thought you have turns out to be a FAKE LOVE (cue BTS bg music). But, self-aware or not, he has never made Dan-Oh happy. Not even when he’s trying to be nice to her. His feelings come in the wrong place at the wrong time (one can blame it on the Writer), and this is what I mean by saying it’s too late for him.

Now that HaRu’s back and turning on a full boyfriend mode with Dan-Oh, into which direction is he heading?

Considering his character, I presume he wouldn’t go down without a fight to get her back on his side. But he’ll slowly realize she’s happiest in someone else arms and step aside to be a good friend. Right? I can trust you, right?

Baek Kyung-ah, I really want you to find happiness too. I feel like LOVE, a pure love, is the only thing you ever want. I hope you can find it in the frienship with Dan-Oh, HaRu, Do-Hwa, and Nam-Ju. And I hope your family will eventually come together at the end and you’ll find your peace with that.

And, maybe, just maybe, a spin-off or a sequel for Kyung’s romantic love(?). Please Writer-nim. Please dramalord. 🙏

I really hope now that Haru is back to his old self, we’re not going to descend down the path of him and Kyung just constantly being at each other’s throats.

My heart broke seeing Kyung’s face as Danoh told him frankly that the path ahead of her (marriage, illness, etc.) is not something that she’s a willing participant in at all. The underlying message was clear: The fact that I’m doing these things with you doesn’t make them any more bearable for me. And I think that was really difficult for him to hear.

I hope the writer gives him a chance to discover who he really is. Similar to what Dohwa said, I don’t want him to just settle for being that bad guy who’s mean to Danoh and eventually just loses out on her friendship. I want him to work together with E3 (Extraordinary 3: Haru, Danoh and Dohwa 😂) to change his fate and get out of this toxic environment with his dad. I want him to find happiness.

And since we know he’s not going to marry Danoh, I personally volunteer to be his fiancé in her place 🤪

Youtube did a GREAT job suggesting Lee Jae-Wook’s insta live. Do they have a sensor that can detect I’ve somewhat become Baek Kyung trash? And Jae-Wookie calls Kim Hye-Yoon “Hye-Yoonie” instead of Noona? 😍😍😍

Okay…WHO is this guy?

He appears twice in \’Flower\’; once with Dan-Oh and another with HaRU (those two are the same person, right?).

At first I thought he’s supposed to be Baek Kyung (from his apperance & he’s giving a flower bouquet to Dan-Oh, just like in ‘Secret’). But Kyung only notices Dan-Oh in the manhwa and not himself? He clearly said “the girl looks exactly like Dan-Oh”, not “it’s me and Dan-Oh”. So it’s not him(?). Or is he being blinded by his LOVE for Dan-Oh (as in “my eyes can see only you and nothing else”😍)? Or is it Dried Squid?? Or a totally new character??🤔🤔🤔

And, is the Writer being lazy or what?
Not only reuse lots of characters but also the scenes and the scripts. Where’s your sense of originality? 😏

7
8

based on what squid said about someone making another person’s story theirs..

I am guessing squid was somewhere (deviation from manga though) .. and Nam Joo’s mom was there too 😛 .. and DO probably ruined their love story back then with haru..

last time she went for the mother
this time she will ruin son’s love story/manhwa 😛

Team Ju Doo !! – teach DO the lesson 😛

    I thought it was Haru?

HaRu is sporting the updo hairstyle but this guy is wearing his hair down. And he’s seen in the scene where HaRu’s saying his “I will make my own answer” line. (My apology, the photo is quite dark, you might not see the details. 🙏) So, at this point, I don’t think he’s HaRu.

Really looks like Baek Kyung’s comic character to me.

I thought so at first. But when Baek Kyung only mentions Dan-Oh and not himself, I got confused. Maybe he didn’t see it? Or plothole? Or what?

I dont know haha but that 2nd Flower manhwa panels looks similar to the engagement dinner scene. Dan Oh even said similar lines. The characters look like Dan Oh, her dad and Baek Kyung.

ExtraOrdinary You Ep8 (15-16)

Baek Kyung, I told you like 5 episodes ago that it\’s too late, didn\’t I? Still, I really feel bad for you. The indifferent Dan-Oh is worse than the annoying,-clingging-overly sweet Dan-Oh, right? Now that the ONLY love you\’ve ever encountered is likely turning out to be just a lie. That hurts, I know! Hope you can find a way to cope with this shocking twist and live your life happily at the end. Be strong.

Okay, emotions aside. How many, exactly, characters from \’Flower\’ are reappearing in \’Secret\’?
1. HaRu
2. Dan-Oh
3. Squiddy
4. Nam-Ju\’s mom
5. Baek Kyung (? Not sure)

Also, Joo-Da is gaining self-awareness or could already become aware? It\’d be Dae Bak if she turns out to be a fox. Look at her smirk at the bully girls. Makes chills run up and down my spine.

13
7

Also, Baek Kyung’s brother is another self-aware character or what? The look in his eyes shows that he KNOWs what going on, right?

    8
    1

I knew there was a reason why we have cutie bro hanging around. He seems to be self aware too. Perhaps way earlier than them. Although I don’t really see him yet having a bigger role, 🤔

That Joo-da smirk made me sit up straight too.

I think everyone in Secret came from Flower. I think the comic writer just changes thing, perhaps in Flower, Ha Ru and Dan Oh are the lead and Ju Da and Nam Ju are extra. So in Secret, the writer makes Ju Da and Nam Ju as the lead while Ha Ru and Dan Oh as extra. So that everyone eventually has a taste of the life of leading characters (not that they could remember it anyway)

    3
    2

Oooooh Secret is a spin off of flower!!!! I like that. It made me remember a C-Drama, A love So Beautiful. The two extras from that drama are the main female lead and second male lead of another C-Drama, Put Your Head on My Shoulder!

And what if Ju Da is the villain in flower too!

Ju Da is definitely self aware, she watches the clock turn counter clockwise like it’s nothing!

But Dried Squid only has reaction (Shocking? Concern? Scare?) upon seeing only HaRu & Nam-Ju’s mom. What’s the significant of that?

the Tale of Nok-Du Ep7 (13-14)

Arghhhhhhhhhhh
As expected, the angsts kick in and keep piling and piling up, right on cue.
But still, Arghhhhhhhhhh

And, isn\’t that too much?
Yul-Moo….??? Really??
WHY…???
How could you…???
Arghhhhhh

What happened to the oh-so-nice second leads in dramaland lately? All gone? Extinct?
Arghhhhhhh

It\’s my bad to start watching 2 dramas at the same time, so they enter this state synchronously. Now I get double angsty. I shouldn\’ve jumped in so blindedly. I have no one else to blame. 😥

If there’s any consolation, YM is still nice to DJ. 😉
