Chung Myeong possesses Chan Sung to meet Man Wol. I’m fine with him settling this grudge through Chan Sung, but ep 14 preview has me hating that pest again. If Man Wol even grows a slightest bit of hate towards Chan Sung because of the misunderstanding (that Chan Sung is CW’s reincarnation) I’m gonna go to Myeong Dong and kill that bug myself.

Why is the teacher so stupid? Every time she talks to someone to get information, she gives them more secrets than she asks for? Wth is wrong with her?!🤦🏻‍♀️

After telling Man Wol she just applied hemorrhoid ointment to him, CS Jingoo tells her to wipe it off. IU immediately licked her fingers to wipe his face.🤣🤣🤣

They are both so spontaneous but they couldn’t help laughing and probably had to retake it (which in broadcast version turned into MW initiating the granny lick-wipe that CS tried to dodge).

They deserve a nice vacation. Everyone did well for this “live broadcast” drama.

IU has announced she’s joining.
Destination will be Bangkok, so Jingoo can be the tour guide.😉

My take on Hotel De Luna

I\’m atheist but I\’m fairly familiar with East Asian religions so nothing in Hotel De Luna is glaringly illogical — only realistically impossible.

The message was ambiguous at first but I think it is clear now: grieve and move on. Weak humans are susceptible to the happiness and sadness that karma brings but are hopeful to have better future lives, if only they keep moving forward. Humans are a mere speck in the cosmos and one lifetime is a mere segment in time of the eternally existing soul.

When people don’t grieve properly they remain stuck in the pains of the past. Man Wol embodies an extreme representation of people not willing to move on. I hope we see that she is rewarded a happier life after she lets go.

Regarding MW\’s time and the tree

As far as I can tell, she started out a spiteful human. We\’ve seen how the mind can manifest an illusory person out of imagination and a curse out of hatred. The tree is her Gyeong Ah and cursed little Mira. Whatever curse she made with that tree, it locked her time as well. In cursing herself she accidentally cursed CM who made a promise to stay with her. The flowers are withering and petals are disappearing as soon as it falls. I take it that her curse is breaking down.

About Chan Sung paying the price for Man Wol:

These past episodes have set up the rule that there is always a party that gains and a party that loses. This is in line with a common East Asian ideology, that intangibles like luck, happiness, blessings, lifespan, etc are finite. It’s all just complex bookkeeping.

Man Wol is told that bad relationships are returning to Chan Sung\’s life because of her. If there is any logic to this, I guess it’s because Chan Sung brought back her bad relationships and made it neutral/better. She brought back his bad relationships but his bad relationships turned worse as an offset, because the positivity she gained is drawn directly from himself. We see a similar case, when the acupuncturist and wife draw down their own lifespan to extend their dying/dead son\’s life.

Chan Sung mentions the leaf that first fell on him and that maybe all the weight of the petals are landing on him. He\’ll take it. So it seems whatever Man Wol needs to gain or lose to successfully crossover, had to come from someone. I now believe our Chan Sung is no more than a person of great fortunes (like the little baby at the restaurant) that Mago feels capable to withstand the junk that Man Wol needs to let go. With no connection to her past, I feel even more sorry for him, having to endure emotionally for no reason. Not to worry though, because his good karma is gaining. His character is like someone becoming bodhisattva.

I think you’re right about the overall theme. Grieve or make peace with what’s happened, let go, move on. There’s also an underlying theme of non-attachment to the material world because you have no use for money or possessions once you’re gone.

Very well written! I didn’t consider the balance/book-keeping aspect of things, and once I add what you to say to my own understanding of the eternal soul, the drama makes even more sense (to me)!

This drama is quite an improvement over their earlier works. Hong Sisters never tried this hard to give sense to their world and characters. I don’t blame the viewers once scarred for thinking all conflicts are forced, like they used to do it. Knowledge of Korean/Asian beliefs helps to understand the logic. That’s why not many knetz are complaining about the plot line, unlike when Hwayugi was broadcasting.

Not only did they bring in ancient world metas, the contemporary ones are just as interesting. Viewers not paying attention to SK news wouldn’t catch references to molka, cultism, or organized cyberbullying. It’s like me not having a clue that the girl making the dream call is a BTS fan. XD

Yup! I remember the many complaints during Hwayugi. I also got lost in what the drama was meant to be, and ended up dropping it.

I’m fascinated by how different expectations of viewers from different parts of the world can be. Free will, redemption, closure, a “fair and just” god, even equating Mago to God – it’s been fun to read varying interpretations & frustrations, but the show makes sense from an Asian point of view. I’m almost sad to hear this is their best effort. I was thinking I should give Hwayugi a retry, but now that you mention the complaints – yup.

I’ll be honest I don’t like this show but strangely I understand the major themes in the same way you do. Why are people so surprised about CS’s price? It’s old fashioned but common. In every old kdrama some Candy meets Jerk and her infinite kindness cures him. This boy is doing the same but his stakes are higher because she is MW.

    2
    1

All the suffering in a love relationship is the same deal in dramas. I guess because Mago explicitly tells MW that she is the cause, the pain suddenly turned into something people thought is completely avoidable — but that’s an illusion.

      1
      1

Yes and also because MaGo takes away the classic reward, Candy suffers but in the end she gets Jerk Reformed, which is now a Prince, but here CS will go through all the trouble just to let her go. They won’t get to enjoy being with each other as a real couple. Unless they come up with some solution to give them a happy ending which I find very possible.

        1
        1

That’s why I think CS will be rewarded a new reincarnated MW, the 404 baby

            @Lixie
I don’t think Koreans mind that gap in fantasies. I’m ok as long as they meet when she’s older, not like Goblin.

They hinted that CS will live a long life. Gotta have some reason for that.

This scene was best couple scene in ep 12. The teasing of his sex drive and sleeping in her room joke is back. Wonder if they will actualize it?

\”Hotel De Luna\” Yeo Jin-gu\’s \”Chorangi Tteok\” ad-lib, IU\’s real-life laugh

    App translation:

The scene in which “Hotel Deluna” Yeo Jin-gu burst IU’s “real-life laughter” with a surprise ad-lib in the drama is drawing small attention.

In the 11th episode of tvN’s “Hotel Deluna,” which aired on Thursday, drew attention when she was spotted bursting into actual laughter, not acting, during a conversation between Koo Chan-sung (Yeo Jin-gu) and Jang Man-wol (IU) who went to eat rice cake soup.

Ku Chan-seong visited the famous “Jorangi Tteokguk restaurant” where Kim Joon-hyun visited to soothe Jang Man-wol’s mood. Jang Man-wol was so happy that he even wore round earrings suitable for the concept of Zorangi tteokguk.

Later, amid a tteokguk eating contest, Ku Chan-sung drew a burst of laughter from IU by telling Jang Man-wol, “I’ll eat all this rice cake soup and even its earrings.” It was an ad-lib that was not in the script, and the scene shows IU barely tolerates the instant laughter that pops out of the real world and almost spits out rice cake soup.

This god almost became a pleasant NG, but the scene remained more natural than any other god because of the realistic smile the two exchanged. After the show, viewers also praised Yeo for her quickness, saying, “I think I’m an ad lib in an earring” and “IU’s smile was real.”

A source from the drama told the Sportby News on Wednesday that the line “will even eat the earrings” is Yeo Jin-gu’s ad-lib “It’s a scene where the actors actually laughed,” he said. “The first part was in the script, but the back part was in the script, and it was more fun because of the ad-libs.”

In addition, Hotel Deluna is rumored to have many other ad-libs hidden while viewers are not aware of it. Instead of going as far as 100 percent scripted, the scenes of actors and actresses making them small in the field are making viewers more interesting.

Meanwhile, “Hotel Deluna” has continued to break its own record by surpassing the 10.4 percent viewership mark (based on Nielsen Korea’s nationwide price-earning households) in its 12th episode.

#HDL It wasn’t a joke. CS really is a Harvard con artist after all. He was a bad ass all along. Even Sanchez haven’t seen this side of him and feared for him. He didn’t just talk the bully to leave. He threatened him with a gun and other terms… clearly having gun experience… and kept a smile on his face.🤯 Though it’s not farfetched because his father was living on the edge of society during his primary life. Even Mon Wol was shocked that her “weak” boyfriend confronted the serial killer with balls of steel.

And Ep12 was trolling everyone including Man Wol solely for comedic effect. Writers forgot she can spot a ghost from across the room. Post your rules on somewhere visible to remind yourself.

That being said… Chan Sung needs to be on suicide watch after Man Wol leaves… he’s obviously pondering how to follow her😰
