Beanie level: Noble idiot

So I have been in this super funk, drama wise. Watching Backstreet Rookie and Men are Men. But not really feeling them. So I looked back on my to watch list and thought, why not watch Goblin and see what that the hype was all about. Well down the rabbit hole I fell and watched 16 episodes in a week. And what do I have to say for myself is that, I probably should have picked another drama to watch. Now don’t get me wrong, the premise of the story was interesting. An immortal being falling in love with a human is a story of the ages. But I feel the execution was flawed. I know this has probably been said when the show aired, but I missed the hype during that time. Did they have to use a high schooler as the FLs character? I know her age progresses with the show and the actress is not of school age, but for some reason it bothered me here than in most other shows. I did like most of the side characters and their stories. I would have wanted more character development on some of the other characters and less watching the leads cry. Bc man was this show depressing. Also for a show about immortals there was a lot of unnecessary dying. Definitely not something I would normally pick as a summer watch… Maybe I should have waited till the fall or winter to watch it. I am glad I can say I watched it. But really wished this would have helped my drama funk. Now to search for something else to whatch. I’m open to suggestions.

I watched Goblin after it aired and while I LOVE the bromance, and Gong Yoo is wonderful, I find the drama pretty lackluster. As you said, the execution of the show was very flawed. I definitely enjoyed some of it, but I think it’s pretty average.

    “a lot of unnecessary dying”
Picture me rolling my eyes non-stop episodes 14-16.

Overall: I loved the OST, enjoyed the bromance (GIF gold mine!) and secondary romance, as well as the Goryeo flashbacks. I didn’t care for the OTP at all. The story was just so … slow and meandering. I could have watched Episodes 1-4, 11-13, and 16, and that would have covered everything.

I agree maybe they should have just made it a movie.

    — The ongoing but delightful rom-com (the best I’ve seen in ages) – Memorials/Into the Ring!!! I can’t recommend it enough.

    — If you want something thriller-y, Nobody Knows.

    — If you want makjang in 16 eps, My Unfamiliar Family.

      Memorials. You can’t miss it.

Thanks for the suggestions @pickleddragon and @eazal. I don’t know, Memorials just isn’t calling to me. I feel it may be too over the top. I must have missed No Body Knows when it was promoting. I didn’t even recall it. I will look into it.

I’ve watched Oh, my Venus recently and it’s a nice and light rom-com, it could be a good summer watch

Have you watched Mystic Pop-up Bar? In older dramas maybe Chief Kim or You’re Beautiful?

Loved Mystic Pop Up Bar. That was my last good one. Chief Kim is on my to watch list. But I ended up watching Misaeng. Only ep1 and I am sad but in a good way.

Oh what a gem of show. I needed something with a nice ending that I could understand and made me have the *feels*!

I liked everything about this show.
I don’t even care there are some plot holes about the ending.
My heart if full of love after watching.

I feel the same. I don’t understand why some people bashed this show. It was better written than some other shows I won’t name…

Not really sure how to feel about The King\’s ending…. I feel empty of feelings. Like nothing. … maybe it will come to me later. Lol

Oh THE KING!! *sigh* 15 episodes in and I am still confused. Maybe we should have handled the time travel time line rules earlier in the show, so I would not be as underwhelmed as I am now that the show is about to end. Maybe if all those people we kept getting introduced to were developed a bit more I may have been more aware of what was happening. Alas it is what it is. Just one thing I ask. If you you kill off Eun Seub/Jo Young… you will got to my worst show list. …okay.

Looking back on this I completely missed some due, my brain not working straight at 2am. So many type-os and completely forgot some other dramas I have watched. Also I happen to break my S-pen on my phone, which I bought due to the ingenious use of PPL in KDramas. Lol

So.. that cliffhanger on THE KING?!! 😲🤔 Now I am really intrigued. Can\’t wait till next weekend\’s episode. LHM as City Hunter is his best drama in my opinion. So him looking like that… I like. Lol

Question fellow Beanies that watched Memoriest, is it\’s a family watchable drama or is it too gruesome? My fam is a big police procedural drama fan, we have watched Signal, God\’s Quiz 1-4, and Tunnel

2

And now looking for something else. We usually choose something engaging that my parents and teen siblings can watch. Also, English is not my parent’s first language and sometimes the Korean to English to Spanish doesn’t flow well in Subs so, we stick to English. I’m wondering is the Memorist could be something we watch next, or do yall have any other suggestions???

Everything that was gruesome was blurred out in Memorist. If you liked Tunnel I think you’ll like Memorist. It’s not as good as Tunnel though.

      1

How about Life on Mars? Imo, that’s a good police procedural drama. I haven’t watched Memorist, but my friend recommended it recently saying it was a good thriller.

    3
    2

Memorist can be a hard watch (many dark scenes and the whole story doesn’t really make sense until the end). I enjoyed it, but I also think it will have benefitted from 4 episodes less.
It also can be a bit gruesome (but just as any USA police drama).
Have you seen Stranger – Secret of Forest? I would recommend this a lot. Intriguing, awesome acting. It’s on Netflix, so you can trust the Spanish subs.

HOLA! Thank you @eazal!! I heard good things about Secret of Forest but it just wasn’t what I needed at the time it aired. But it is on my to watch list. Maybe it would be a good Famwatch.

I have a big brother and he’s as sweet as Ikjun. We used to fight all the time growing up but now that he has a family of his own, he became nicer to me. 😄

I’m the oldest in my family, so no chance of that for me. I always wish I had an older sibling. Preferably a brother.

Totally gushing over the OST for Hospital Playlist. I love listening to music at work, and this is the perfect, chill acoustic playlist. The songs are like a warm hug during super stressful times. 🤗

VIP was truly the most poignant Kdrama for me this year. It had been a very long time since a drama had captivated me as much as this one did. Thank you actors!

So ready for the ending of VIP. When I first started this drama, I never imagined to be so invested in the story. I am pleasantly surprised. Now can we ship Yuri abroad and never see her again.

She overplayed her hand, didn’t she? Just because Daddy does it doesn’t mean he will let you.

My wishes have been fulfilled in VIP! Jang Nara, you let them have it. I can\’t wait until the end and she gets her revenge and drags them all the way down. *evil laughter* lol

Yuri from VIP is starting to be my most Unlikable character from all my years of watching Kdramas. She is not outright evil or crazy. She is just pitiful. Not in the Aww poor puppy pitiful but the …

    (Forgot the 200 character limit)
The why?!?!?! pitiful. I’m not sure if someone else understands me. But she just irks me. Like come on girl get a grip of yourself and move on from this no emotions man. Like seriously. What do you see in him? There is no spark between them. He is just there staring into space. I have zero feelings for him. But Yuri just 🤯 me. And now with that ending of ep 12. Really???!! How childish could she be. Ahhhfghffgdhdhd!!!! *Ok I have vented*

It seems like she exists just to ruin Jung-sun’s life. But what did Jung-sun even do to Yu-ri? Is Yu-ri just jealous of Jung-sun’s seemingly good life? If so, then Yu-ri took that jealousy way too far. She’s one of the most petty characters I’ve watched.

      2
      1

That’s they word I needed yesterday. Hahaha. Petty was what I was thinking but I couldn’t even come up with it, due to how frustrated I felt. Lol

        1
        0

I know what you mean, I find her maddening. She cries alot even for a k drama which I wouldnt mind except for the fact that whenever Park-soon won’t come to her she uses them as a tool to get her way. It makes me mad but her persistence did Jung sun a favor in informing her of the problem otherwise there is no telling if anyone woud have told her shes married to a cheater

      2
      1

You have a point. However I still refuse to give her any points. Lol

        2
        1

Oh I agree she deserves Nothing!
I never would have dreamed I’d be so impatient to find out what’s going to happen. I just know its gonna be bad for the cheaters and I am ready for it!
