News bites: November 13, 2024

  • New character posters have dropped for JTBC’s upcoming The Tale of Lady Ok, showcasing our entangled four leads: Im Ji-yeon (The Killing Vote), Choo Young-woo (Oasis), Kim Jae-won (Hierarchy), and Yeonwoo (Dog Knows Everything). Helmed by PD Jin Hyuk (Sisyphus: The Myth, Legend of the Blue Sea) with scripts by Park Ji-sook (Uncle), the fictional sageuk is slated to premiere on November 30 in the weekend slot. [JTBC]

  • Lee Min-jung (Once Again) and Kim Ji-suk (New Recruit 2) have confirmed casting for Okay Let’s Divorce (roughly translated), becoming a married couple on the brink. But the situation is pretty messy with the two also being business partners and co-CEOs of their wedding dress company. With production led by PD Joo Sung-woo and writer Hwang Ji-eon, the series is planning for a 2025 release. [Sports Donga]
  • Speaking of troubled relationships, the promos continue on MBC’s When the Phone Rings, raising the ante in the romance-thriller’s new teaser for Yoo Yeon-seok (A Bloody Lucky Day) and Chae Soo-bin (The Fabulous). Broadcasting on weekends starting November 22, the drama also stars Heo Nam-joon (Your Honor) and Jang Gyuri (Player 2 – Master of Swindlers). [MBC]

  • Thankfully, it’s not all doom and gloom in dramaland this month with Joo Ji-hoon (Blood Free) and Jung Yumi (The School Nurse Files) showing us how petty is done in the new preview for tvN’s Love Your Enemy. But despite the childish bickering, we know that the rom-com’s roads will all lead back to love when our story begins on November 23. [Sports Donga]
  • It’s a busy month for tvN as they prepare to launch Parole Examiner Lee as well, with Go Soo (Missing: The Other Side 2), Kwon Yuri (Good Job), Baek Ji-won (Connection), and Lee Hak-joo (LTNS) headlining the series. Releasing a new teaser ahead of next week’s premiere, the revenge story will be coming to our screens on November 18 in the Monday-Tuesday slot. [MBC]
  • Over on KBS, the fantasy-comedy Who Is She (previously Miss Granny) is well underway, pushing out stills from the script reading in addition to our first look at the characters. With Kim Hae-sook (Mr. Plankton) and Jung Ji-so (The Glory) sharing the role of our granny heroine, the lineup for the movie adaptation includes Jinyoung (Sweet Home 3) and Chae Won-bin (Doubt) among other talents. I'm looking forward to all of them except the last one. I'm not a big fan to adapt a movie in drama.

"Speaking of troubled relationships..." amazing transition, 10/10. I am also irrationally interested in watching When the Phone Rings.

I’m very relieved that Kim Ji-suk got cast as a male lead again. It was only a few months ago that he lamented at a variety show about hardly receiving any acting offers these days. I rewatched Another Oh Hae-young last week which re-affirmed what a good actor he is who can do both comedy and melo.
