News bites: October 31, 2024

  • Gathering to discuss their next important mission, mom Bae Doona (The Silent Sea) calls a meeting for their super-powered family in the first poster released for Coupang Play’s Family Planning. In a busy month of premieres, the fantasy thriller will be launching on November 29, also starring dad Ryu Seung-beom (Moving), grandpa Baek Yoon-shik (Vagabond), son Lomon (Branding in Seongsu), and daughter Lee Soo-hyun. [MBC]

  • Twelve has also assembled their large ensemble lineup, with our big bad demon crow Park Hyung-shik (Doctor Slump), daring to oppose tiger angel Ma Dong-seok (Police Unit 38, The Roundup: Punishment). Working alongside human manager Sung Dong-il (Han River), our angel good guys also include: Seo In-gook (Death’s Game), Lee Joo-bin (Tarot), and Go Kyu-pil (Tarot), as well as Kang Mina (Welcome to Samdal-ri), Sung Yoo-bin (No Way Out – The Roulette), Ahn Ji-hye (The First Responders 2), and Taiwanese actress Regina Lei (I Can See You Shine). [YTN]

  • Ahn Hyo-seop (A Time Called You) is considering an offer to become a former Taekwondo athlete and our now struggling, angsty hero in a new crime-mystery called A Night in Heaven (roughly translated). The novel adaptation is still in the planning stages with PD Yoon Jong-ho (Lovely Runner, Times) attached to direct. [Osen, Star News]
  • ENA will be delivering a frothy rom-com on November 4, Brewing Love between our leads in the latest poster and teaser. With the chilly fall now bristling at our doors, Kim Se-jung (The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch), Lee Jong-won (Bad Memory Eraser), Shin Do-hyun (Doom at Your Service), and Baek Sung-chul (Tell Me That You Love Me) take us back to sunny summer days for a round of beer tasting in the fields. [Sports Donga]

  • In Channel A’s newest teaser, we’re thrown into the jokingly makjang love square in Marry YOU, entangling Lee Yi-kyung (Marry My Husband), Jo Soo-min (Penthouse 2), iKON’s Ju-ne (a.k.a. Gu Jun-hoe) (Twinkling Watermelon), and Ji Yi-soo (Sponsor) in the comedy romance. Coming to our screens on November 16, the series will be airing on weekends. [Sports Donga]
  • SBS has been busy preparing for The Fiery Priest 2, squashing our characters en masse into the new poster with Kim Nam-gil (Song of the Bandits) at the head. Premiering next week on November 8, the second season will have our hero following his holy duty to kick baddie butts once again, with Honey Lee (Knight Flower) and Kim Sung-kyun (Moving) also joining in on the fun. Looks like the beanies craving mystery, crime or fantasy are getting an abundance of dramas with veterans in the field. Those of us wanting the light, no stress rom coms will be happy too.

2 - now that's a lineup!

3 - just read elsewhere that ML here is a club host (!) paying off huge debt and FL is illegitimate chaebol heiress? Sounds fun a trashy way, may check out)))

5, 6 - pls be good!

about 3. This really ruffled some feathers so the director agency gave out a statement that nothing is set in stone and denying Hyo seop being cast. In the book the character is a male escort...

Ah, the downside of having a large fandom... Honestly, they'd be better off with a less known actor for the part - the one that has nothing to lose. Ridiculous, imo, but true.

Bae Doona is a mom?! But Han Hyo-joo is a mom too. Both bearing super-powered kids. Anyway, I’m in. How frequently does BDN grace our screen?

1. Well the last super-powered family was atypical fun. That makes me excited to look forward to this one. Hwaiting!! 🤞🏻

2. Huh! You forgot Ji Chang-wook!! 😱😱😱

3. Ah! An angsty former Taekwondo player fighting for his way!? Now where have I heard that one before. 😂

4. I say cheers 🍻 to a frothy rom-com. Be sure I'll hold you responsible for this descriptor. 😉 😜

5. It is a love square. 🟥 Ordinarily not a fan of those. But then if you want to go down that path at least cast a worthy love rival against Lee Yi-kyung. Mianhaeyo Ju-ne, but then he is a kid and is no competition for his sunbae-nim.

6. It is a tight fit, isn't it. 😂 Hwaiting Team. ✊🏻

Ji Chang-wook isn't listed in the article, sadly. It could just be that he's still in talks and not officially signed on, or maybe they're saving it for another round of casting news, ooorrrr possibly he backed out. 🤷‍♀️

It's TWELVE and BREWING LOVE for me.

Not sure about FAMILY PLANNING because the one K-Drama that properly delivered on superhero families so far is MOVING. Those are big shoes to fill.

I tried ATYPICAL FAMILY and that was a bust for me.

It's been awhile since the monthly Drama menu appealed to me as much. so this November is looking quite tasty.
**Appetizers to start: 'Family Planning' and 'Twelve'...two spicy action-packed nibbles to bite into and get the juices flowing,** followed by a frothy glass of 'Brewing Love' to cleanse the drama palette before I tuck the napkin under my chin and chow-down on my long awaited and much-anticipated main course: **'The Fiery Priest 2'. Yay he's back! Had so much fun watching the last time. To end this multi-course feast? **"Marry YOU", a sweetly delicious love-square with a thick makjang icing. Perfect dessert. Can't wait for the service to start...wish there was a bread basket nearby...maybe an old movie?
