Premiere Watch: Black Out

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Thriller, crime, mystery, action
Episode count: 14
Global Streamer: TBD

Reasons to watch: Another crime thriller, let’s go! Here we have Byun Yo-han convicted of a crime he doesn’t remember committing. After serving his sentence he returns to the village where it all went down to get to the bottom of the mystery. Wronged (or possibly wronged) heroes trying to sort things out and reclaim their lives is a favorite storytelling archetype of mine, so between that and the addition of Go Bo-kyul, Go Joon, Kim Bora, missing memories, and a German novel adaptation, you can color me interested.

TL;DR: Byun Yo-han tries to uncover the crime he’s not sure he actually committed or not

Byun Yo-han is my main reason for watching this. He is such as underrated talented actor that I am really ecstatic we can see him again. Desperately wishing this drama delivers.

He’s active in movies though, getting awards left and right.

Thanks for sharing this. I don't follow movie news actively so I had no idea.

Most are serious, art house movie types - I guess it is his personal choice to do so. Doing drama maybe a way to stay mainstream somehow.

I only realised this week that Black Out is an adaptation of the crime novel "Schneewittchen muss sterben" (Snow White Must Die), which I read umpteen years ago. I'm curious to see what the central theme will be here instead of the German fairy tale Snow White.

I have been interested in this drama since it was mentioned to be an adaptation of Snow White Must Die. Byun Yo Han is a big plus.

I dislike crime thrillers (the crime part) but I end up watching them anyway. Sigh. This fated relationship.

I saw on Twitter that the only legal streamer only available in Indonesia (but sadly, not outside in Indonesia) was Vidio. So, availability angst outside Indonesia was still here.

Anyway, I am deeply shocked that this show would be weecap on Dramabeans, so I might wait next week if the availability angst outside would be resolve or if the availability angst will continue well into the following week (because MBC did not secure yet this Kdrama with the global streamer outside Indonesia and even in South Korea properly), then there will be a Dramabeans drama hangout for this Kdrama without weecaps only.

So, I might say that it would resolve to handle with the issue/scandal with this MBC Kdrama license outside South Korea and Indonesia would rarely happen starting today (August 16).

I kept expecting to hear some announcement that Hulu or Prime had picked it up and now I'm so sad that it's finally here and totally unavailable!

*sigh* it's not like I don't have other things to watch this weekend, so I'm still hoping this pops up somewhere I can access in the next few weeks.

I read on Reddit that it's supposed to be available on Hulu, but can't verify it myself.

Thanks! I'll keep looking out for it periodically. Sometimes I find that shows show up on Hulu weeks or months later, so who knows. Maybe I'll just go back and comment on all the recaps super late 😁

I love crime thrillers, aside from saeguks. Definitely will watch this one. Thank you, Byun Yo Han for picking this drama! I hope to see you in the upcoming MBC Drama Awards.

I'll see, but I am TIRED of murder plots, but will try for the cast.

Doesn’t look like we have availability in the US region. Would have loved to see it for Byun Yo-Han

Whoever out there (outside of SK) gets to watch BLACK OUT on a legal stream: Congratulations!
Looks like we US viewers have been blacked out by MBC.

Darn it! This was one of my picks for August. Hope it becomes available internationally later on. -shrugs- :/
