My Sweet Mobster: Episodes 1-2

There hasn’t been a more diametrically opposed pair of opposites since Barbenheimer, and our sparkly, cheerful leading lady and our monochromatic leading man are off to a rocky start. But in dramaland, the adage “opposites attract” is proven correct more often than not, and romance is definitely in the air — whether this OTP realizes it or not.

EPISODES 1-2

My Sweet Mobster: Episodes 1-2

Objectively, My Lovely Sweet Mobster is not a top shelf K-drama. From the tropes to the comic inspired animations, everything about this show would suggest it’s on the path to mediocrity — and yet (so far, at least), this silly little rom-com speaks to my inner office worker who just wants to abandon her inbox, lay on the beach, and read an equally silly romance novel. For the right audience, this is escapism at its finest, and right now, I am this audience.

I wasn’t fully on board right out the gate, though. In fact, I was initially a wee bit concerned that this drama was going to be too silly — even for me — when our story opened with a campy introduction to our leading man. SEO JI-HWAN (Uhm Tae-gu), the former leader of the Bulldog Gang, is a caricature of what most people would think a gangster looks like: all black clothing, slicked back hair, and resting butcher face.

The key word here is former gangster because, even though he still dresses like he’s cosplaying a Matrix character, he metaphorically hung up his trench coat after defeating his rival GO YANG-HEE (Im Chul-soo), the leader of the Kitty Gang. Y’all, I don’t know which is more ridiculous: the fact that Im Chul-soo is portraying a I-only-got-this-job-because-of-nepotism type gangster or that these gangs seemed to have randomly picked their mascots from a list of college football teams and Sanrio characters. Either way, it’s clear that we shouldn’t take these gangsters too seriously — not even when they’re supposedly being serious.

After retiring and taking up the more honorable (and legal) position as the CEO of his own meat production company, Thirsty Deer, Ji-hwan’s decision to hire reformed criminals inevitably leads him back to his old rival when one of his employees, a former druggie, goes missing. Ji-hwan begins his investigation at Kitty Gang headquarters, a nightclub that doubles as a front for their more sketchier activities. While searching the club for clues to the whereabouts of his missing employee, Ji-hwan bumps into — literally — our leading lady, GO EUN-HA (Han Sun-hwa).

It’s definitely not love at first — or second or third — sight for these two, because a series of coincidental run-ins and misunderstandings leaves our OTP thinking the worst of each other. Eun-ha mistakes Ji-hwan for a (practicing) gangster because he still dresses and carries himself like one, and because Eun-ha was toting around candy that looks suspiciously like the new drugs that the Kitty Gang is pushing, Ji-hwan suspects Eun-ha is in cahoots with his former foes and is trying to drag down his reputation — which couldn’t be further from the truth.

My Sweet Mobster: Episodes 1-2

Eun-ha is actually a children’s content creator, and because she genuinely loves kids, she puts a lot of effort into creating videos that are engaging for them. Her whole persona (online and in real life) seems modeled after the ideal kindergarten teacher or theme park princess — sweet, effervescent, and too perfect to be real — but, like all Disney princesses, Eun-ha works for a larger company with a bottom line. Her idealism is at direct odds with said company’s push to promote their sponsors’ toys and kid-friendly products in her videos, which is why she’s deemed the company’s worst performing creator. (Whomp, whomp.)

As such, she’s a bit of a joke among her peers, and she’s given assignments that the other content creators avoid, like the upcoming children’s food festival. But Eun-ha is a Candy with a heart of gold, so of course she’s eager to attend the food festival. In fact, even before she volunteered for the task, she already had an idea for a fun and engaging pizza-making class that she hoped to put into action at the festival.

You know who’s also in attendance at the kids food festival? Ji-hwan’s Thirsty Deer employees. His company recently developed some kid-sized sausages, and they need to do some market research to see if their product — and its kid-friendly packaging — will sell. Unfortunately, the parents at the festival aren’t too keen on having their kids approach the booth run by reformed criminals or eat food that they suspect is laced with drugs. Things go from bad to worse when one of Ji-hwan’s employees accidentally bumps into a father with a short fuse, and the ensuing arguing escalates to a point where kids start crying enmasse.

Eun-ha steps up to de-escalate the situation, and by the time Ji-hwan arrives on the scene, the crowd has dispersed, Eun-ha has left to teach her pizza class, and his despondent employees are cleaning up the mess. His employees are remorseful but also defensive, sensitive to the fact that they cannot escape their reputation as criminals. Ji-hwan, although sympathetic, gives them some tough love: “Paying for your crimes does not mean your crimes are gone.” Because they were criminals, they have to go the extra mile to prove they’ve turned their lives around.

My Sweet Mobster: Episodes 1-2

Given that Ji-hwan and Eun-ha are both at the same event, their paths inevitably cross and result in bodily injury. Yeah, you read that right, but it’s actually Eun-ha who’s the unintentional aggressor. She accidentally stabs Ji-hwan in the ribs with a mop handle and sends him tumbling down some stairs. The tough-as-nails former gangster winds up in the hospital with a mild concussion and broken ribs, and his employees are chomping at the bit to enact revenge on Ji-hwan’s behalf — especially since they still suspect Eun-ha might be a part of the Kitty Gang.

By this point in time, though, Ji-hwan has already searched for Eun-ha on the internet and done a deep dive of her videos, so he’s no longer concerned that she’s a Kitty Gang spy. However, that doesn’t mean she’s not a threat… to his heart. You see, after marathoning all of Eun-ha’s videos, he can’t get her off his mind. She invades his thoughts to a point his concussed brain imagines she’s by his bedside. Then, suddenly she is in his hospital room, wanting to apologize and return the sunglasses he lost when he fell down the stairs.

It’s at this exact moment that Ji-hwan’s minions come storming into his hospital room, cursing Eun-ha and threatening her bodily harm. Ji-hwan hides Eun-ha under his bedsheets a la True Beauty, and does his best to deescalate the situation before his employees ask about the suspiciously large lump next to him in bed. They guys are really riled up, so it takes Ji-hwan longer than necessary to get them to clear out, but once they’re gone, Eun-ha is able to scamper to freedom.

Just when Eun-ha thinks she’s in the clear, her phone starts blowing up with comments on a video that she didn’t post. Her boss took the footage of her de-escalating the fight at the kids’ food festival and edited it in a way that sensationalized the situation and slandered Ji-hwan’s employee. The video rakes up millions of views, just as Eun-ha’s boss had hoped, but Eun-ha’s reputation tanks because it looks like she posted a very non kid-friendly video to her account.

Obviously, the video has a negative impact on Ji-hwan’s company, too. Business partners are backing out of deals, and stores are pulling his products from their shelves because no one wants to buy meat from a company run by the violent criminals seen in the video. Ji-hwan has a hard time believing Eun-ha posted the video — it’s so unlike her other content — but he can’t argue with the fact that it was uploaded from her account. Unable to take the negative publicity lying down in his hospital bed, Ji-hwan dawns his most intimidating black attire and pays Macaroon Soft a visit, scaring the hell out of Eun-ha’s boss.

My Sweet Mobster: Episodes 1-2

While everyone is preoccupied with the scary former gangster who’s shown up with legal documents and a promise to sue Macaroon Soft for defamation, Eun-ha sneaks in and steals the hard drive containing the original footage from the food festival. Eun-ha may be intimidated by Ji-hwan and his band of merry men, but — as Ji-hwan reminds her — they are the victims. They didn’t start the fight at the festival. They were there to promote a product they worked hard to make, and they don’t deserve the negative publicity manufactured by her boss to drive up the view count on their videos. So Eun-ha does the right thing and uploads the unedited footage from the festival to the internet.

It’s still unknown if Eun-ha’s anonymous video dump single handedly restored Thirsty Deer’s reputation, but her actions definitely warmed Ji-hwan’s heart. He immediately feels guilty for assuming the worst about her, and after further observation of her volunteering at the hospital where he’s staying, he’s downright twitter-pated. He was never a loquacious man, but when he did speak, he was direct and methodical. Now, in Eun-ha’s presence, he’s clumsy — stumbling over his words and his feet. Okay, yeah, this is adorable, and it’s extra amusing because Eun-ha, who’s still a little intimidated by him, is weirded out even more by his awkward penguin behavior. Just wait, though, the time for Ji-hwan to show his manly, protective side is right around the corner.

Unfortunately, his hero moment comes at a low point for Eun-ha. The soy milk she featured on her channel made hundreds of children sick, and now she must face the consequences of attaching her name to a product without researching it first. I’m a little impressed that our story has broached such a serious — and legitimate — problem with online influencers, but it is a shame that our leading lady, a character who isn’t into content creation for fame or money, is having to learn this lesson. I kind of wish she’d been on the sidelines to watch it happen to one of her mean girl coworkers, but maybe this is a needed growing moment for Eun-ha, too. She is almost — but not quite — annoyingly naive.

There’s no denying Eun-ha has a good heart, though, and when she hears about the toxic milk on the news, she rushes to the hospital to retrieve the cartons she handed out to the children during her volunteering activities. Thankfully, none of the kids she knows through her volunteer hours consumed the milk, but her relief is replaced by horror when she witnesses the overwhelming number of sick children in the emergency room.

When the parents recognize Eun-ha from her videos, they turn on her — enraged that she promoted and convinced the parents to purchase the milk for their children. One mother picks up an open carton of milk and throws it at Eun-ha, but before it makes contact, Ji-hwan swoops in to shield Eun-ha. Unfazed by the milk dripping down his trenchcoat, he then crouches down next to her and softly tells her to close her eyes and count to ten because — well, I don’t know. Our episode ends there, and I’m surprisingly curious to find out what he doesn’t want her to see. Something tells me he isn’t going to beat up a bunch of parents and doctors.

My Sweet Mobster: Episodes 1-2

I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for a (fictional) former bad boy, and I’m charmed by Ji-hwan’s strong and soft sides. The guy is 100% smitten already, but the poor thing is going to really have to step up his game if he intends to woo Eun-hwa because — what neither of them realize yet — is that Ji-hwan has some fierce competition in the form of our second male lead JANG HYUN-WOO (Kwon Yul).

Now, Hyun-woo didn’t get much screen time this week, but he already has multiple advantages over Ji-hwan. For starters, as a prosecutor — and not a former gangster — he’s more approachable and less misunderstood. Secondly, he’s good with kids, like Eun-ha, and his office acts as an impromptu daycare for his fellow prosecutors. And finally — and this is the most important bit of information — he appears to be the Hyun-woo from Eun-ha’s childhood that she’s been searching for over the years.

Oh dear, I’m afraid this drama is going to give me a bad case of second lead syndrome or — even worse — I’m going to like both men equally and feel extremely conflicted for another fourteen episodes. Okay, gentlemen, you aren’t vying for just the leading lady’s heart, but mine, too. Now — *pokes both men with a stick* — do something swoony.

I wasn’t expecting very much from this drama but I just tried it because it was there , and I really like it? I am an absolutely sucker for an over the top fictional (former) gangster-with-heart-of-gold.

Question: Is that the way Uhm Taegu normally speaks or is he trying to channel The Godfather?

In any case I really enjoyed the first two episodes and really just have one single prayer for this: That this show does not turn serious on us. Please stay silly. There is a real need for shows like that.

That is his normal speaking voice, most drama watchers arent familiar with him because he's primarily a film actor but thats how he speaks off camera as well.

Thanks for the explanation! Like @OldLawyer, I thought he was channeling Marlon Brando and throwing his voice, but either way, it's perfect for the role. From the promos, I thought Ji-hwan was going to be more of a foolish, goofy gangster rather than the slick, smart, and sensitive one he appears to be based on these episodes. But after he spoke his first line, I immediately recalibrated my impression. I've never seen this actor in anything before, and am thrilled that I like him so much already.

Thank you. I too had thought he was channeling The Godfather. I’m sure he was chosen in part for his voice. Tho I wonder if it would hurt his chances in other roles.

I'm a fan!!

I love how simple and cute this show is. And I'm extremely grateful it doesn't take itself seriously. Even the "bad guy" (Cat boss) is a joy to watch.

This show understands its job perfectly. ROMance and COMedy. They're giving us just those two things—sometimes at the same time—, and I'm very grateful for that.

1. I love uri Thirsty boys!!! They're so funny.
They're not lobsters anymore, they're very hardworking deers!
☺️ I wish the best for them.

And I understand why people may distrust them, but at the same time I don't. LOL

Why would someone that went to prison for something like gambling put weird stuff in food for kids?? And who would be stupid enough to do such an atrocious thing so openly? They're literally trying to start a business??
Idk, at least google their website before opening your mouth. LOL

Yeah, I'm super protective of the boys. Especially our Thirsty Boss!!

2. WHY IS HE SO CUTE?
He's like a giant kid.

I love how hard he tries to be better and help the ones around him be better too.
I love how much he cares for his boys.
I really like how he tries to keep the boys grounded and humble and always talks about how the bad things they did won't disappear, but that at the same time he's doesn't hide or puts himself and the boys down in front of other people.
He keeps his head high when he talks about what they do.

He only acts shy when he's around our FL. 🤭
I completely love how he became our FL's number one fan! Awww.

3. Our Mini unni!! Maybe she should be the "mop" boss? Ah, no, wait. She's the girl scout from the Kitty gang. 😂

Our girl scout is adorable. And she's perfect for her job. She's so radiant and gentle with the kids.

I loved her little conversation with the girl. I'm very incompetent around kids (well, I'm not better with adults). I never know what to say to them, so I was envious of how perfectly she explained things to the girl.

But more than that, she cares about the kids. It was thoughtful of her to point out all the different situations of the kids watching her show. She knows that promoting such an expensive toy isn't the appropriate thing to do in her channel.

It's really sad what they did to her by taking control over her account. And even more sad what happened to the kids that drank that milk. But her heart is in the right place, and she has a future boyfriend making products for kids, so Idk, maybe they can work things out. Together. 😉

Anyway, I love this show.

I agree that initially, the drama seemed a bit *too* silly, but as it moved along, I found myself amused and then even genuinely touched. The story is simple and sweet; the ML is adorable and sexy. And there's just enough cleverness, husky voice sang-froid, and chemistry to keep things moving along. I wasn't bored and in fact, I was often very charmed. I'm not sure how this drama can fill 16 episodes, but for now, I'm totally in.

One thing, though. Why is this meat production and packing company called "Thirsty Deer?" Is there word play and double meaning happening there that I'm not getting?

Yes, it is.
Thirsty Deer is a reference to Psalm 42, and Flesh From Bones is from Ezekiel 37, from the famous passage The Valley of Dry Bones;

Both embody the company's philosophy and policy of second chances and redemption, and finding new life, meaning and fulfillment.

Ezekiel 37: 1-14 ESV

'The Valley of Dry Bones

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. 2 And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. 3 And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” 4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. 6 And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8 And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them. 9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.

11 Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel. 13 And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. 14 And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”'

I enjoyed the first two episodes more than I expected. I like how they were initially at odds with each other due to misunderstandings. But they were able to work through it with sincerity and good intentions. I like the ex cons at Thirsty Deer since they want to turn things around for themselves. No good feelings towards the Macron̈ Soft boss and PD though. They are opportunists.
Ji Hwan is a marshmallow deep down and I like his voice a lot. Eun Ha redeemed herself by releasing that original video. I think her story with Hyun Woo has more to it.
Both actors are new to me and I am loving both of them so far. There is not much Kwon Yul as of yet but they are already setting him up for possible conflict with our ML.

Thanks for the recap @daebakgrits

I am surprised how many similar themes or styles of shows keep popping up in K dramaland at the same time. The silly antics and CGI is very similar to Dreaming of a freaking fairytale and I am not sure if I can watch both at the same time. This one seems to have more depth built in to it. We are seeing Jihwan has a heart of gold protecting the grandmother shopkeeper it seems his gang previously protected for a fee. We also see his leadership style through his message to his minions that they need to genuinely care for each other and understand the struggles they each face trying to remain reformed. It’s interesting they had so many references to faith in the various ex gangs new lives from the church elders making the congregation triple their tithe contributions, to our male lead attending a Buddhist temple.

I felt for the poor gangster stuck wearing the cat carrier but the other gang seemed less interesting as their leader seems lacking in substance, his only focus being revenge.

I wonder if the lost sheep from Thirsty deer is in a desperate place trying to manage on his own because he has forgotten that he has friends who can share the burden.

I liked the start of this one and hope it keeps the substance alongside the fun to the end.

Thank you for the sweet recap for the Lobster show.

Barbenheimer is where uri OTP and 2ML reside. Two different universes but I do think Seo Ji-hwan can give more than a run for money in the cheek bone stakes to the Oppenheimer star.

I am 💯 the target audience for all the silly hijinks and the kitchen sink of tropes they can pack in the show. Hiding under the hospital bed sheets et all. 👏 👏👏

Also what is this brand new trope of soap bubbles - first the Sauna Samchon from The Atypical Family taking the OTP out for a picnic and blowing soap bubbles to cheer up the ML, then the despondent Prince Cha-min from the Cinderella fairytale show blowing soap bubbles as he's bored and now the sweet FL blowing soap bubble to cheer up children and the imagination FL tormenting the mobster ML. I'm game for this soapy trend too - bring on the soap bubbles. 🧼 🫧 🫧 🫧 🫧

Also that gravelly voice of the ML ... umm seems like velvety, melting chocolate. I'm a fan of how well he handles his business meetings.

Uri 2ML is as adorable as I feared hoped. I'll root for a separate love line for Kwon Yul.

I'm sure the "real" Hyun-woo is not Kim Soo-hyun actually uri baby mobster Ji-hwan wearing the wrong name-tag because ... "plot"!! Just hope our forever prosecutor doesn't get to exploit the misunderstanding to his advantage for too long.

There are also bubbles in Kiss 6th sense, My demon, The story of Park contract mariage, The bride of Habaek, Call it love, Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, Link: eat, love, kill, W two worlds appart, Fan letter, please!, A Korean Odyssey, Still 17, The fabulous, From now on, showtime!, Gaus electronics, Search WWW, My girlfriend is a gumiho, The sound of Magic, Boys over flowers, Run On, Dali and Cocky Prince, I am not a robot, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, The master's sun. I agree that the bubbles of Her private life are well done.

The Korean bubbles scenes are not the same as the Chinese pistolet-bubbles scenes, they are more artistic. So I'm not sure if I counted the droplets of water in Doom as your service as bubbles or if there is a scene with real bubbles.

(yeah, my trope-list is too extensive... latest additions : fall prevention in stairs, and scene in the docks)

😍😍😍😍 Impressive list. 👌👏👏👏

1

@Reply1988 yes, the docks are not as frequent as the libraries but still you found two scenes immediately.

It was Designated Survivor: 60 Days that prompted me to add this.
There are docks and containers in Evilive, Café Minamdang, Lawless lawyer, Kill it, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. I'm not sure about Another Miss Oh, Descendants of the Sun, Taxi driver, Voice and The worst of Evil.
It is more a detective scenery, less romcom.

2

Ditto on the thought that Ji-hwan is the real Hyun-woo. She said she originally didn't know his name because she always called him Oppa, but recently found out. How? Seems suspicious to me 🤔

Soap bubbles played an important role in Her Private Life (2019). Highly recommended if you haven’t already seen it. Kim Jae-uck’s ML is the greenest of green flags, they have one of the swooniest, healthiest relationships in K-Drama Land, and their chemistry is ❤️‍🔥.

I felt the same that it would be too silly. But it does actually make me laugh. It works. MLs voice is like a whisper omg. Anyway looking forward to the next episodes.

Although the first episode left me quite cold and thinking about dropping it, the second one was better, the characters were more human and "relatable" (?), less cartoonish, so I'll watch the next episodes. I hope to get hooked and join the party 🤞

A powerful reason to keep watching it is Kwon Yool, honestly. Will he have a good arc and ending? 🤔

Btw, the ML's voice (which I don't like as much as everybody else), reminds me of the ML in a famous Spanish series I didn't watch. The character was a narco called El Duque (the actor was Miguel Ángel Silvestre. Maybe you know him for Sense 8) and he was famous for his hoarse voice.

Given the Barbie styled posters and teasers, the characters are less cartoonish than expected.

I'm definitely rooting for a good arc for Kwon Yul. He seems to be a childhood friend / rival of the ML. It would be nice if he could round up the Kitty Gang.

It HAS to be the mobster (Ji-hwan I think his name is?) that has the childhood connection, though. There is no way that the 2ML is the guy the FL remembers and is searching for. I mean, if I'm wrong, that would be a very refreshing change but I don't think I'm wrong.

The neighborhood Oppa has to be the ML of course. 🤞🙏 There has to be some confusion about the name tag IMO.

Don't get me started on Kwon Yul and SLS!! 😝

I'm not pinning my hopes on that particular ship in this show 🥲 but yes, I'd love to see plenty of KY on my screen!

I know for a fact he'd also make a very charming mobster ... but that's a matter for another script, another show-oh-oh 😭

I don't know if I will get SLS in this show. I don't like the FL so much yet, so I hope the SML can find love in someone else 🤔
I don't want him to be an annoying SML.
In that sense, Frankly Speaking had a well written SML.

yes, I realise the SML's just there to fulfil his job/prophecy, but I'm hoping he can end up meeting someone else (though it's usually the FL's bestie), I don't mind how or when!

I couldn't get into Frankly Speaking ... my gut instinct told me to stay away ... but wouldn't mind seeing a similar plotline again if there was an opportunity!

💯 Kwon Yul would indeed be an amazing mobster turned civilian or even an equally amazing career mobster. Those roles would as you said be for another show.
For now, like Isa I too hope for either a separate love line for him or just support the OTP and not be an annoying 2ML.

He'd also make an amazing sweet barista oppa or restaurateur!

I remember seeing him on Omniscient Interfering View, and he was a total foodie, not to mention a whiz with housework and laundry!

... maybe his character can join the Thirsty Deer boys in opening a cafe selling sandwiches with their kid-friendly sausages?!

Gosh, you're making me love this man more than I already do. 🤣

For now all we can hope for is a decent role in this drama and hopefully a ML in his next. Hwaiting Oppa!!

I'm totally on board with this Thirsty Deer Café with Kwon Yul.

Really I was expecting this to be too silly for my taste just like @Daebakgrits mentioned (thanks for the hilarious recap!), but in fact, it’s working like a charm! 😆 Even though I had the powerful urge to pause the first episode straight away, and venture outside to buy a floor length trench coat to join into the fun of swishing it around wherever I go. 😂

My only concern is the FL‘s job really, not a big fan of that. I’m intrigued where they’ll take this, because the ending of the last episode seemed kinda ominous… Other than that, I like the main characters & silly caricature of a „mortal enemy“ in the shape of a cat-loving villain with devoted sidekicks 😂 The comedy is really working for me in this one („Thirsty Deer“! 😂) and I am hoping this will stay light and fun in the next episodes - unlike other dramas I had the same hope for recently… (looking at you, Frankly Speaking. 👀🫣)

Those cheekbones though!

I love what I saw but I also worry about 16 episodes

I really love the theme of ex convicts trying to get back to society and make a living.
ML is such a softie. I love all the boys. I am really rooting for them. For the first time in kdrama a scandal really affected me. People can be so nasty and judgmental. I felt their pain. It felt so unfair. Like how the ML said, all it it takes is one mistake and their past will be brought up and everything is undone.

And yes I like the FL too. She is genuine and her love for kids is real. She never puts her interest over the kids. Simple things like not inserting an expensive child toy PPL.
I can’t wait for them to work together. I do FF the we tube stuff. Soo much cutesy animations not my type.

The show needs to add proper side character arc otherwise 16 episodes is a lot for romcom. Kwon Yul needs to step up. Even his assistant is outdoing him right now. lol (all the synonyms for bad words 😂)
And more Kitty gang and ‘Scout Girl’ jokes please.

I'm liking the show so far. I do wonder if there will be enough story for sixteen episodes.

Side note:

Are there any Beanies here who watched the drama, Tamna, the Island (2009), starring Lim Ju-hwan and Seo-woo? That was actually the first time I saw Uhm Tae-goo; he had a very small part. He played the younger version of the evil merchant's bodyguard. I don't remember how many flashbacks the 16 episode version of the show had, but I the Director's cut has more fleshed out flashbacks.

I am not that involved in content creation or its practices, but I am confused, why is she part of a wider firm, especially when it seems like she is doing little for the company, they do not value her and she seems not happy? I thought part of the appeal of being an internet content creator was that you could be independent, your own boss and not be under the whims of greedy corporations. I get that a lot of channels and the like are under corporations and sponsors nowadays, but for someone like her, who is not a content creator for fame and money but because she likes it, why is she there? Why not just give out her content on YouTube or a Korean equivalent, and work as a kindergartener in her spare time?

I hope we get answers to this, because it feels weird to have someone who is not in it for the money or fame not only uncritically promote a product, but that she does it under a corporation which ideas and views of children do not align with hers.

I am a bit sceptical about the show if only because I am getting tired of the oblivious, non-critical hivemind that is Kdramaland citizens, but the characters seem cute, so maybe next week...

We'll definitely have to watch more to find out but honestly...I don't think much thought was put into it, our FL seems naive at best so she probably just joined to make a livable wage. Plenty of Youtubers are actually part of corporations or corporation-style set-ups, at least in the U.S., because of the benefits like health insurance or retirement funds. Plus, if a variety of content is put out for the channel that doesn't solely rely on you, you can expect some kind of standard salary even when your particular videos aren't doing well. That said, I doubt this drama has thought about this too hard other than to just set-up FL's arc/character growth.

I agree being a play worker at a hospital sounds like a better fit for her job wise.

I also wonder how many parents buy products or take free products and give to their children without trying it for themselves first. It seems a bit ridiculous to blame a random person you have only seen on the internet who is not a nutritional expert for a dodgy product rather than the company who made the product and should have done the quality control tests to make sure it was safe.

I think I am most interested in the theme of reformed criminals. K-drama land seems very committed in general to once a criminal, always a criminal. I'm not sure I'm sold on the rest of the drama.

At the end of the episode, there was a list of special appearances, one of which is Choi Daniel. I rewatched the ep a few times - his appearance is super brief,no wonder I missed it! It was right after Haha & Byul's pharmacy scene.

It's my first time watching the ML. I'm so smitten! 😍 He kinda reminds me of Namgoong Min.

The romance aside, I'm looking forward to the showdown between Cat Boss and Jihwan, if any!

I wasn't going to watch this. But, the high ratings and great engagement on DB brought me in. Just finished episode 1. The humor is very slapstick. But, the acting is shockingly good. The cooking time with Ms. MiMi scene was shot incredibly beautifully from the costumes to the visual effects.

I will also admit that I started this show with some trepidation, as the opening scenes didn't really grab my attention. But I should know better than to be quick with judgement until at least for second or third episodes. But my worries were gone after seeing some familiar faces in the cast, like the halmoni from King the Land, etc...

But the one that sealed it for me was seeing Im Chul-soo as the leader of the Kitty Gang. There hasn't been a show that he has been in where I didnt LoL. BTW, until it was spelled out here, I completely missed the connection between his character's name and the name of his gang. GO YANG-HEE.. hahahah (literally means kitten)

This one was a surprise. I didn't expect much as the episode started too, it was doing well. But then it went to funny and cute story. It's full of cliche moments but I'm liking it. It won't the best romcom for sure but it's not that bad either. It's really easy going fun watch. And I like the ml, haven't seen him before.

I was pleasantly surprised by this drama!

I started it on a whim & actually enjoyed it! Although I do admit that the animated parts were tough to sit through but it felt slightly better if you remember that Eun-ha is a children's content creator so it does make sense in a way.

Aside from the editing, I'm a sucker for the "unseriousness" aspect of the show.
I'm sorry but a "Kitty" Gang that carries around an actual real life cat? AND Im Chul Soo as the leader??? Yeah I'm sold. All these nicknames are hilarious.

The main story itself is adorable and interesting for now. I enjoyed the dynamic between the leads, it was funny to see the chaos between them and between the supporting characters as well (Ji-Hwan's crew is kinda endearing)
Can't wait to see Ji-hwan break out of his icy exterior!

Hopefully this show maintains its course though! It would suck if it took a downwards spiral seeing that it has potential to be a simple romcom :')

Just wanna drop a note and send my LURVE to My Sweet Mobster. Nestled somewhere along the gamut of Dare to Love Me, and a Freaking Fairytale - My Sweet Mobster seems to have hit that magical sweet spot for me: surreal absurdist humor in bubblegum pink, satire with sly light humor, poignantly comic social commentary, and a very good mobster ensemble cast that's absolutely killing it! (best I have seen since the iconic Vincenzo's Bye Bye Balloon gang)
My favourite romcom in the current stable line-up of live watches

Ugh, I wish I wouldn't keep going for the shiny and new series and finish the ones I already started.

I clicked on this one out of curiosity and now I'm hooked. It's really fun and charming. I loved that scene where he starts watching all her videos, with hearts in his eyes. At some point, he complains that the producer did not properly capture her beauty. Oh boy, he is smitten.

It's neither here nor there and was done for the plot, but I appreciated seeing a scene where someone falls down the stairs, knocks himself out and it's taken seriously. No piggyback ride with him waking up in his own bed. The panicky antics of his employees were hilarious as well. Also, kudos to whatever stunt double performed that fall down the stairs. I watched it several times. Scary and impressive. How do they not end up in the hospital for real?
