Premiere Watch: Vigilante

Time slot: Wednesdays
Broadcaster: Disney+
Genre: Crime, action, thriller, suspense
Episode count: 8

Reasons to watch: Nam Joo-hyuk, Yoo Ji-tae, and Lee Jun-hyuk? That’s all they needed to say to get me interested. We’ve also got a cool double identity dynamic here, with Nam Joo-hyuk playing our police university student by day, and hooded vigilante by night. Haunted by wrongs of the past, our hero is determined to make the baddies pay — and he’s got Yoo Ji-tae on his tail, Lee Jun-hyuk supporting him from the wings, and Kim So-jin getting involved to propel her own agenda. Now, a Disney+ production makes me think this thing will take a darkish and violent tone — as opposed to a Mad Dog or Healer — but we’ll have to see how dark they go when the drama premieres on Wednesday. In the meantime, with our leading actor in the military, it’s a kinda lonely press conference.

TL;DR: Nam Joo-hyuk goes into vigilante mode with requisite hoodie involved

Oooh! I was gonna pass on this but the cast is too good for me to not at least have a peep... once all episodes are out.

For USA - this is streaming under Hulu

When I searched for it yesterday- nada. No announcement, no promotions from Hulu USA. Today, it just quietly popped up under search. Hulu Kdrama marketing non-existent once again.

Hulu does a really bad job of letting clients know about new programs they might like.

If it says Disney+, I always check Hulu. About 50% of the time it's on there. Glad this one is as I await the tidal wave of weekend dramas.

They've gotten a little better in adding new shows to Hulu around the premiere date...but still suck at promotion.

And sometimes I have to specifically put in the show's title in the search because it's not listed on the main page.

I like the cast. Lee Jun Hyuk and Yoo Ji Tae look gorgeous in the above photo. I will catch up on this soon once I complete a couple of the currently airing dramas that I am watching.

@jillian Having the Nam Joo-Hyuk and Yoo Ji-Tae double bill heading this cast is what got me to take a second look.

The last time there was a male double bill I liked, it was HEALER with Ji Chang-Wook and Yoo Ji-Tae. That was action/crime as well so I'm looking forward to this.

Disney has no sense of humor ... also why are all its K-dramas so dark and full of angst.

First episode was actually quite good, even if it was basically all the tropes we've already seen from this genre.
I'm just depressed that the Korean justice system works exactly like this IRL too. So I guess it's a little cathartic that the victims get some form of redress, at least in the show.

the guy playing the horrific child sex offender in this drama... is playing the detective investigating Han Jun-oh's accident in Moon in the Day. Such whiplash for me bc I watched today's ep of MitD right after the premiere of this.

The press conference picture just screams slick noir vibea haha. These folks understood the assignment.

I hoped this would be better than The Worst of Evil and so far, to me, it is.

Ugh typos🙄
Anywho, I didn't know how much to write here and it's not like I have any deep thoughts about the premiere episodes but one thing I will say is Nam Joo Hyuk looks good with the bulked up physique haha
