Premiere Watch: My Demon

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: SBS
Genre: Rom-com, fantasy
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: In our next pass at contract marriage, we have a cold and beautiful CEO (Kim Yoo-jung), a demon who’s lost his powers (Song Kang), and a mysterious transferable tattoo that’s the source of all their trouble. As usual, the best solution to any problem on a scale of eros to thanatos is easily addressed by one thing and one thing only: a contract marriage. In addition to My Demon’s fantasy setup — and all the pretty — we also have the screenwriter of Mr. Queen, who, if anyone, can pull this slightly twisted story into something that works.

TL;DR: Song Kang x Kim Yoo-jung set fire to your screen (TBD what sort of fire this will be)

I was rewatching Sweet Home in preparation for S2. I remember that I really liked Song Kang in that show. If I do decide to watch this, it will be double the Song Kang in December.

I honestly can't guess if this will be a smoking hot situation or a hot mess, but it cracks me up that someone has already given it a rating when not one minute of the actual show has aired.

Its a time-traveller who's a reincarnation of one of us from the far future.

Let's hope Crankypants From The Future was just having (will have?) a bad century and not that it's a bad omen for this show. I need this to be the next Perfect Marriage Revenge and not the next Heavenly Moon of Kokdu's 19th Life.

I was just having a bad day after dealing with the annoying chaebol guy who keeps harassing me at work - and is also the reincarnation of my murdered husband from Goryeo times, and his equally annoying best friend who can't accept no for an answer, who was obviously my former husband's regretful murderer in Goryeo now cursed to be his eternal servant companion. Please understand my dilemma, it's not about the show.

A reincarnated time traveller living their 19th life, while dodging serial killers and chaebol intrigue, I imagine?

A 7 already. Oh my. First off I have a soft spot for Song Kang but SWEET HOME 2 will be my next SK drama.

O/T As far as our in-house DB ratings system goes for years I never rated dramas. Frankly I don’t think I noticed the star thingy. Now I usually give a rating.
Confession, only once (like above) did I give an advance rating before airing and that was a 10 to HEARTBEAT. I was confident it would be great. I never expected what the writer would give us as an ending. I am a softy so I reduced my rating to (a still generous 8). My fellow beanies are are bit harsher in their judgement because HEARTBEAT currently has a DB rating of 6.3 (ouch). Hell hath no fury like……..

Having just watched the first ep, I think the time traveller was underestimating it with that 7. I'll save my comments for the recap but for now will just say I loved it. Never less than amusing throughout, really looking forward to ep 2.

Yes, it was good, but 80% kdramas have impressive premiere episodes that gradually turn sour, so I'm holding off on commenting about the 7 ratings

I honestly feel like it may end up becoming a hot mess, but I am absolutely loving it already, now that the first two eps have aired. I had to stifle my giggles while riding with my family in the car.

Netflix US has it under MY DEMON with the notice: New Episode Coming Friday. This is a SBS production not a Netflix original so I believe the episodes become available after airing in SK. It airs at 10pm so it must have just finished airing in SK.

Netflix has been hyping it to me on their home page for days, but wouldn't let me add it to 'My List' until the first episode appeared a little while ago. I know what I'm having for dessert tonight! 🎉😈👰🏻‍♀️

@elinor smh I haven’t seen hide nor hair until this morning. Bad Netflix

Desperately need this to be good and my new crack watch for the month of December. I'll need one after Perfect Marriage Revenge ends.

I’m psyched that so many others are psyched…but I wonder if imagining that it might be as good as PMR is either TOO wishful a thinking, or, contrariwise, underselling the deeply dramatic possibilities of our hot demonic couple.

Either way, I’ll be happy to be dragged along for the ride here.

Oh it won't be as good as PMR, but it doesn't need to be, it just needs to be fun.;

@kafiyah-bello he is so pretty

2

If you like him, I love it for you. He is a bit poutty for me, but that means more for you.

3

Yep, he’s all mine. Lol

2

Nothing will top PMR, don't worry lol. I just don't want this to be a complete dud and a waste of my time.

Now you're talking. Me too. So we don't go too far into depression missing PMR.

🤔 Why am I left so unphased about this? It has all the tropey ingredients that usually reel me in. But… hmmmm. Maybe I’ll just wait and see for beanie reactions, worked like a charm for PMR, too. 😂

Kim Yoo-jung is 24 ?
I looked through her work, I’m about 10 years behind.
Watched many of her younger works.
Give it a shot.

This is the first time I've watched either Song Kang or Kim Yoo-jung, and so far I'm quite enjoying them. Of course, I adore Kim Hae-sook, whether her character is adorable or evil, so the fact that she's part of the cast is automatically a treat for me.

I was intrigued by the first episode and am looking forward to seeing what happens next. I'm looking forward to seeing how the relationship between Do Do-hee and Jung Gu-won develops and how the transfer of his powers will work.

I went into this show hoping not be impressed by the drama, but it was vibrant, attractive (large part of it is due to the leads visuals, so credit to makeup, wardrobe, hairstyle, cinematography), funny and had soaring chemistry between the leads. The setup was crisp and has me curious although I suspect the usual love tropes between human and non-human to play in the later half.

@missvictrix Your writing is incredibly attractive even in a short paragraph! Loved reading the synopsis.

Oh! I think I'll love this (I hope I don't regret it). The first episode was already really funny. I haven't watched the two leads before and they're quite new to me. I struggled to believe the male lead as a demon even though he cuts quite the dashing figure in a suit. Don't get me wrong, he is incredibly handsome, I just didn't find him very menacing? Still, I like his chemistry with the female lead and I can't wait to see where this goes.
