Premiere Watch: The Matchmakers

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Sageuk, rom-com
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: Thanks to the fact that Destined With You was pre-produced, we get Kim Ro-woon back on our screens after a very short break. And you’ll hear no complaints from me. He was great in The King’s Affection, and I’m excited to see him flex his comedy skills against those of Jo Yi-hyun (who just so happens to be one of my favorite rising actresses). Their bickering dynamic will likely be the core of this drama, right along with the not-often-seen young widow and widower characters. And with the writer of Sell Your Haunted House and the PDs from Memorials and Nineteen Otters, this drama could prove a good one.

TL;DR: Long time no “Roswoon”

I am ready for this, armed with the four episodes test, I am prepared for not mentioned but bound to be present palace politics and annoying characters. Yet I remain hopeful, that this will be the sageuk that focuses on people’s lives outside of their links with the royal court.

I might be in this entirely for the costuming. And the ducks.

Ooooh, the MEMORIALS PDs?! Interesting, how come I did not notice that before. I’m in two minds about this, but the pros list for watching this is growing! 🦆🦒

I'm happy with the new dramas we got lastly!

The production team is good and we are more on the serious sageuks with My Dearest and future Kithan War, so a funny one is welcomed!

I've already maxed out my Rowoon quota for the year, so I won't be able to watch this.

No worries, you can watch when you miss him while he's in the army. 🤣

I am basic, my Mon-Tues are sparse. There is an actor's strike in the states and there was a writer's strike before that, so there isn't much happening here, so I hope this is good for the sake of Mon-Tues.

Enjoy while it last - he should be enlisting in some time. So we will have to rewatch these dramas till he gets back. 🤷‍♀️

First episode was genuinely quite fun, if a little bit long. I like how Rowoon's character goes from astronomically down bad nerd to frightened little meow meow man, he's just so cute. Choi Yi-hyun is pretty as always and I liked her acting tbh, but I hope to *see* her character do more matchmaking instead of just hearing about it. Let the enemies to lovers bickering and shenanigans begin lol
