Jung Woo-sung is a silent artist in Tell Me You Love Me

ENA’s upcoming melodrama Tell Me You Love Me has released its first teaser, which is wistfully atmospheric even if it reveals little about the drama’s tale. A remake of the 1995 Japanese drama of the same name, this healing romance will paint a heartfelt connection that transcends language.

Chungmuro veteran Jung Woo-sung (A Man of Reason) returns to dramaland for the first time in over a decade since the classic Padam Padam, his pinch-hitting stint in Delayed Justice notwithstanding. He’ll star as Cha Jin-woo, an artist who lost his hearing to a high fever when he was a child. As Jin-woo grew up, art lessons were the only time he felt like he could express himself freely. Art became his closest companion, accompanying him in his silent world.

Then one day, he crosses paths with Jung Mo-eun. Played by Shin Hyun-bin (Reborn Rich), Mo-eun is an actress, accustomed to expressing her emotions through words. Spurred on by her passion and unwavering spirit, Mo-eun strides out of the airport, suitcase in tow. Meanwhile, Jin-woo wanders a vast expanse of nature, raising his camera to a quaint little house surrounded by lush greenery.

“The beautiful things you will see, if you focus,” reads the text overlaid on the ocean waves that both Jin-woo and Mo-eun gaze at. As the setting sun bathes the beach in its gentle glow, Jin-woo and Mo-eun share a tranquil, contemplative moment. The teaser is beautifully shot, accompanied by the ambient sounds of nature, and I’m hoping the drama will take a similarly thoughtful tone.

Rounding out our main cast is Kim Ji-hyun (D.P. 2) as Song Seo-kyung, Jin-woo’s college classmate and ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, Lee Jae-kyun (Song of the Bandits) plays Yoon Jo-han, a music producer and composer who stays by Mo-eun’s side as someone who’s more than a friend, but just short of being a lover.

Directed by Kim Yoon-jin (Our Beloved Summer) with scripts written by Kim Min-jung (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, The Sound of Magic), Tell Me You Love Me is slated to premiere on ENA and Genie TV in November.

I am looking forward to seeing if this one lives up to expectation. For some reason those shots in the trailer reminded me of When the weather is fine and the film Little Forest.

I didn't see Little Forest, but I agree that the trailer gives When the Weather is Fine feels.

If you can find Little Forest I would recommend it, it has some good actors and is a relaxing watch as Kim Taeri the main lead goes back to the countryside where she grew up. We see her in the different seasons planting and cooking traditional meals from scratch and interacting with her old school friends and relatives.

Saw the movie! I'm down with the flu and have nothing to do (ooh rhyme!).

I love that the story is very simple, and the shots and sounds are gorgeous... Quite perfect because I literally need healing right now 🤒🤧 Thank you!

I think it's the prominence of ambient sounds plus beautiful cinematography that make the trailer similiar to When the Weather and Little Forest -- each a feast for the eyes and ears ❤️

Hope you feel better soon. If you like ridiculous humour I would recommend Secret Zoo, a recent watch that made me smile.

It looks beautiful.

Now, I hope it won't be boring.

Ooooh interesting! I hope that the next trailer does *not* reveal a past life connection, then we’re good. Crossing fingers it will be available in my region!

Has anyone seen the original drama?

I just looked it up and found a subtitled version the picture and sound quality is like a worn video but a couple of mins in and they are playing a calypso song by Harry Belafonte so I am intrigued and will see if I can make it through the first episode.

Uh oh, this feels like A Piece of Your Mind with a better story and When The Weather is Fine with leads that I like. And also the fact this is helmed by the director of My Beloved Summer. This couldn’t and must not go wrong.

this is blatant APOYM slander and I will not stand for it 😭 that story was a masterpiece, the only criticism I have is for the last 2 episodes, which was not even the writers' fault

I see no ressemblance between APOYM and this teaser. The story is different, APOYM was in Seoul, the theme was grief.

I think I see the resemblance because of the nuance. Like calm sounds, the color tone, serene shot. Also I guess this is will be a slow burn romance and the fact that te main character is deaf probably there will be a kind of tragedy to be told in this. Though APOYM was in Seoul but the main background wasn’t busy city instead quite neigborhood.

I beg to differ. The story wasn’t that bad but wasn’t great either. I didn’t find the AI thing is plausible and the relationship between ML and his first love was almost makjang. But I do love the calm music, the shy but flirtious leads and the beautiful color filter.

The AI was an SF element but it's like time travel. We don't believe in it but the important is the hero's journey. How it worked never the main point but how it helped the characters.
Her death was a little bit weird but not their relationship.

We didn’t even get to see Jung Woo-sung’s face?!

With the director of My Beloved Summer, fingers crossed.

Jung Woo-sung was crush-worthy when I was a beanie baby. I'm glad to see him back, but I'm not a fan of the FL. She was wooden and had no chemistry with the then-gorgeous Yoo Seung-ho in "Warrior Baek." I watched her again with Song Joong-ki in "Reborn Rich," I'm still not impressed.

I have the exact same concerns regarding the FL. Nothing of what I have seen her in previously would seem to make her an apt choice. Guess we should trust the casting and the PD.

Having seen the original when I was still in school I remember being deeply affected by it. So I am definitely interested in a Korean remake ... in a cautious way. 😀

I loved Jung Woo in Padam Padam so I am hoping for a good return for him. It sounds interesting enough to give it a try.

I love his performance in Padam Padam. Have you ever seen him in the film, Musa: the Warrior? He starred alongside Zhang Ziyi, Joo Jin-Mo, and Ahn Sung-kee. And he sported glorious long locks. ;)

MUSA is one of my favorite movies. He was gorgeous there with his mane of glory. I love Ahn Sung-ki. He's such a wonderful mentor to young actors. He is the most successful actor who started as a child actor in Korea.

I have not but I will watch it today! I read the info on it and it sounds like a winner!

Based on the MDL comments, the Japanese version was less healing and more frustrating, esp the FL apparently. So I do hope this is a rare instance of the Korean version improving on the original rather than vice versa.
