You can only pick one: Chaebol boss

You can only pick one, and boy the pressure is on. The DB team will answer a new prompt in each post, and you’re invited to do the same in the comments. Ready to play?

You can only pick one chaebol boss

DaebakGrits: If I can only pick one chaebol boss, I’m picking the one with an underground batcave: Eun Sun-woo from Good Job. Sun-woo’s ultimate man cave looks like a fun place to hang out. For starters, it has an expensive computer command center and a decked out gym, where I can ogle Sun-woo while he works out and there won’t be anyone around (besides him) to judge me for my unabashed, wide-eyed stare. And then, once he goes to shower and my brain resumes functioning, then I can use the equipment, too. Secondly, as someone who occasionally cosplays, I’d also love access to his giant closet full of costumes, wigs, and FX make-up. A rich man who has a hobby of applying face prosthetics and lace front wigs while going undercover for spy missions sounds like exactly my kind of man. Plus, you know, Sun-woo is very caring and blushingly romantic once he finds the right person. There are a lot of chaebol CEOs in dramaland, but there probably aren’t many I could sweet talk into wearing a costume and being my plus-one at Comic Con.

Unit: How can I pick only one of the many chaebol bosses I adore in dramaland? Just ask me to pick between mom and dad. Sigh. Fine, I’ll just go the OG route and pick Joo Joong-won from Master’s Sun. He ticks all the boxes on the chaebol boss checklist: trauma, daddy issues, pettiness, great suits, a telescope to spy on his business rival, and an awesome right-hand man by his side. I will never not love his trademark “get lost” gesture, and the way he modulates his voice to deliver his dialogue. He’s the most adorable grumpy pants there ever was, and I loved that despite all his complaints, he willingly allowed himself to get dragged into the female lead’s ghostly world. I already liked him from the first episode, but I fell in love with him at the end of the fourth episode when he came to her rescue with his arms spread wide — even after she lied to him. “Your safety hideout came. Hide.” Yep. That sealed the deal for me!

Dramaddictally: Um, King The Land, please! This drama may be a tropefest but when it comes to this character archetype it breaks the mold. What do we know about chaebol bosses? Well, usually they’re a bunch of moneyed jerks with hearts of ice that need to be melted down by the female lead. But in the case of Won, he starts out right in Episode 1 with some solid principles, a class-conscious work ethic, and a heroic attitude that has him hauling his new office buddy out the door with him to shake up the company and take a stand. And if you didn’t love him from day one, how could you not love all his swoony acts of savior that go awry? If there’s one thing this drama loves to do, it’s make our chaebol boss the butt of a slapstick joke. And I for one am happy to see all that pretty-faced power knocked down a peg. Because what’s the real purpose of a chaebol boss? It’s to put our heroine in stark relief. And the more he’s knocked off kilter, the more moxie she gets to show. So, here’s to semi-competent bosses that can exercise listening skills while also looking good in a suit! And if they just happen to resemble Junho, all the better.

I'm going to select Kang Tae-mu from Business Proposal largely on the fact that he absolutely adores to actually do what his business sells: preparing food for others to eat.

The scene where he makes breakfast, from scratch, for Shin Ha-ri is swoonily (ahem) chef's kiss. And the scene where he foists a meal onto Cha Sung-hoon because he needed to get his anxieties out by cooking...I know where he's coming from there too.

A chaebol who really cares about what he's selling (and also therefore holds the greatest respect for the work of his love!!) is top-notch in my book.

A Chaebol who is actually truly serious about his company and his job. It is odd how we often do not see that.

Absolutely! I'd love to chat with him about food while making some. He'dbe my choice as well, we'd have to share! 😉 What I loved about him as well was that he bought a whole company so he could fire that spy-cam guy. A man with an attitude, I love that!

One of tropiest heroes in all of dramaland, the most adorable self-absorbed narcissist in the world, who, of course.... masks an upbringing that was lonely and traumatic with exagerrated self confidence

OH NO. This is the hardest choice ever! In terms of the one I liked the most, I'm gonna say the Good Job ML. But for actual best boss to work for, I'd say the ML from Business Proposal.

This is assuming that the following characters are not counted as chaebol bosses because they are chaebol heirs but technically not bosses: Yu-hyeon from Hello Me and Seung-tak from Ghost Doctor. Otherwise they win my vote for EVERYTHING.

So you know KWK played a chaebol long before Hello, me! Right? In Love rain, played a young manager chaebol for the hotel/resort that YOONA’s character worked as a gardener with her single mother. But yes, I’m a huge fan of KYK in anything, playing a chaebol or otherwise. I actually thought of him first in Love Rain. Although he was the second lead, I love a chaebol who can get his hands dirty with rest of his staff.

For me, Ahn Min Hyuk from Strong Woman Do Bong Soon is hands down. He is everything and then some. Rich, handsome, suave, funny, and devoted, he is brilliant, actually works, has no qualms about calling a spade a spade and oozes sex appeal, and yet is cute at the same time. And, of course, has that huge baggage of brooding family issues he tries to make light of. At the same time, he is the one ready to die with and for his lady love (and he does it twice!)- which basically catapulted him to the top of the Chaebol boss food chain for me (what? My PHS bias you said? I go for quality of course :D :D :D ). On his own, he is a force to reckon with, not to mention the 'strong' challenges he will have to fight for life for loving a woman like Bong Soon, a task he has taken on with eyes wide open. So it's definitely Min Min all the way!!!

Min Min is truly the best - he's not an insufferable jerk, he's funny as hell, he actually WORKS when he has to unlike most of chaebol CEO MLs, he has personality far beyond his archetype (lots of that), he doesn't turn into 100% different entity after that magical kiss of love from FL (makes sense - dude's already a prince, not a frog under evil spell lol), he has brains (plus razor sharp tongue) and unafraid to use them and last, but not least, he's actually a pretty decent boss to work under (not immune to some workplace favoritism tho, to put it mildly, but who's perfect anyway?). I also appreciate the absence of revenge subplot in his backstory and that his whole family drama was mild as well (resolution to it was abrupt and kinda anticlimactic, yes, but that's still better than endless succession bloodbath makjang it could've easily go for). Did I mention that he's just FUN? Boy is everyone inner child's spirit animal and we love him for that. AND his dreamy eyes and random horny comments. See, relatable as heck!

I could write spools of peans in his praise, but in a nutshell 'personality beyond his archetype' is what sealed the deal for me. He is seriously stands apart from the assembly line CEOS out there. And the fact that he does not really change who he is, rather makes a huge difference in the woman he loves. He breaks her from her shell, develops her confidence, and eventually helps her become who she is.
He is also a pretty solidly fair boss. Despite all the bullying and passive sexual aggression that Kim Won Hae's annoying character brings with him, Min Hyuk does not hold it against him and evaluates him based on his work skills (in my opinion he should have been fired for being a bully, but S.Korea's tolerance for workplace bullying baffles me).
Random horny comments - hahahahaha! Seriously, I have missed that in all of PHS's post SWDBS dramas so much.

Yeah, I feel like "arrogant CEO ML" guys generally became way softer and actually tolerable over the years, but he's still miles above nearly all of them. Precious)))

Agree, but to be fair, none of these dramas were romcoms/romance centered (it pains me to say that about OBY, but writers butchered the original premise far too much there). We'll see how it goes in DS - can't say I have huge hopes for epic romance in it, but hopefully it will be a decent comedy (bonus points for cynical medical humor if they dare to). Is this too much to ask?

With PHS around humour is a given. The man has the ability to pull it out of thin air. Some of the funniest scenes are him trying to be a fair boss lol! The way he manipulates to keep her from joining the RnD team. Eventually she gets in on merit and I loved that (and then rightfully gets kicked out too despite being the CEO’s wife and both take it sportingly ).
Right now they have delayed iDS so much that I guess I’m ready to watch whatever they have ready lol!
I’ve never been a fan of the arrogant CEO but I did like Sec Kim as well as Business proposal but both the arcs had a 180 degree shift in their nature which honestly is never quite unrealistic. Especially for BP, the guy didn’t add anything much to Ha ri’s life other than an unlimited credit card. Somehow it’s always the FL who is sacrificing something of hers to uplift the poor ML. SWDBS went against the tide. That’s another plus about Min min, without him there would be no Bong Soon. And of course, that air of a born Prince….

3

Also, he breaks down in giggles. There's too little of that in macho land.

I'm gonna have to agree with this. SWDBS was one of the first few dramas I watched when I first started watching Kdramas back then and he captured my heart from the start with his crazy chaotic ways.

He's also one of the few chaebol MLs that I didn't harbor a sense of dislike for while watching the series with his personality and the way he treated Bong-soon.

Come to think of it, PHS was a Chaebol boss in High Society too, but he left a very different impression as Chang Soo even though he was equally suave, funny, and clever with a razor sharp tongue, and devoted to his lady love. So even though PHS aced Chang Soo's character, it still is is no match for Min Min.

For intersecting shady deals, turn grandiose plans into farce, shed light into rich peoples´embarrassing habits etc all the while being dressed like we just came out of Vivienne Westwood show

Can’t I just build my own, using the junkyard pick-yer-part approach?

Lee Young-joon, Secretary Kim: abs/torso, narcissism
Eun Sun-woo, Good Job: smiley crinkly eyes, egalitarianism, bat cave
Nam Shin, Are You Human too?: eyes
Ma Tan, Gaus Electronics: hair, cluelessness
Go Won, King the Land: hands, suits, assets
Han Seung-jo, Numbers: arms, dismissive headshake
Lee Jae-in, 1% of Something: kissing ability and frequency
Joo Joong-won, Master’s Sun: voice, grumpiness
Lee Gun, Fated to Love You: daddy issues
Kang Min-ho, Falling for Innocence: swagger, heart (and change thereof)
Kim Min-kyu, I’m Not A Robot: sweetness, trauma
Kang Tae-moo, Business Proposal: work ethic, cooking, resemblance to archaeopteryx

Or we could just load them all in a rocket ship and fire it into space. There are WAY too many chaebols in dramaland.

Hate to go off topic, but you bring up one of my pet peeves about chaebols. Although there are some memorable women chaebols as secondary characters, there are very few who are leads (I guess the one that jumps to mind for me is the FL of Crash Landing on You) and I can't think of any who are chaebol women bosses who have a romance with a hardworking male employee from a poor background. In fact, is there any show with this as plot?

9

Required fields are marked *

Only as a secondary couple (Run On)

6
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

I kind of forgot Run-on, although there were two things about that--as I recall he wasn't really her employee, but rather an artist whose painting she bought, and then, didn't it end with them breaking up? Since I watched it a couple of years ago, the ending is kind of hazy in my mind-- as is often the case with kdrama endings, most of which I prefer not to remember!

2
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Ah, yes, you are correct! I think she commissioned a painting from him but he didn't really work for her in a traditional sense. They break up but get back together before the end.

4

Yoon Se-ri was the very first chaebol that came to my mind, but I'm busy objectifying these characters (because that's mostly all they're good for) and I didn't want to start by doing that to nearly the only positive depiction of a chaebol FL.

6
5

And of course she's not the ML's boss, although she puts him in a dependent/boy toy situation first chance she gets.

Required fields are marked *

And Captain Ri is kind of a North Korean equivalent of a chaebol so it's kind of washed out anyway

7

Right, and I think he was North Korean elite, with his Dad as a top general, so it was a true symbolic representation of Korean unification: South Korean aggressive capitalism, and North Korea expansive militarism, both colonizing Switzerland.

8

It's so cruel! I almost cried when he did.

2

One of the ironic things is that Samsung has 3 chaebol heiresses occupying top positions in the company. And I've read that their business acumen puts the men to shame--and of course, the main Lee Jae Young was indeed shamed with his prison sentence. My first thought that he was not the type of chaebol boss you'd want to feature in a kdrama, but then I'm sure that there is at least one kdrama who has the chaebol boss out of prison, forced to do charity work in his company's foundation who meets a selfless and beautiful volunteer worker.

5
reply

Required fields are marked *

I agree! The closest is possibly Jang Man-wol from Hotel del Luna...but I'm not sure if acquiring wealth by just living hundreds of years counts as being a chaebol. But I loved how she acquired all those sports cars and just spent her money. I wonder if this is a sad commentary that chaebol women bosses as leads with hardworking male employees only exist in fantasy.

There are chaebol FLs but not they're typically not the ML's boss, like Dali in Dali and the Cocky Prince or the FL in Yong-pal (and she wasn't bossing until later in the series). There is Lee Yo-won's character in that drama she did with Yoon Sang-hyun, but I think she got her position and money through old-fashioned talent and hard work.

I hope they do a live action adaptation of the webtoon- My Boss's Special Request. The FL is the rich, robotic boss while the ML is clumsy, hardworking guy.

Oh, someone in another comment brought up Graceful Family and that has a rich FL/poor ML romance dynamic, but it's not really employer/boss... unless you consider that he's employed by an organization that works for her family, in a sense

The romance is also minimal, although I personally LOVED their relationship

Graceful Family is one of the most fascinatingly makjang cringe dramas out there but I enjoyed the relationship (would have like a bit more romance) and LOVED the way the corporate security police state was scripted, choreographed, filmed, acted. There is one such couple in Agency, but imho the conclusion to that one was extremely badly done.

Spoiler

They literally showed us what that poor man would have to endure from her family, her friends, her staff, the press... And then just went on with it. Like a spoilt rich brat who just repeats I wanna with no consideration for anybody. She just said Trust Me! And he smiled, and they lived happily ever after. Yeah 🙄 I don't think so. At least show us some convincing measures she is going to take to protect him from all that. Nothing.

I’m going to answer this with my favorite chaebol boss overall (at the moment), because I have different answers for which one I’d want to work for (Won from King the Land) and which one I’d want to date (Tae-mu from Business Proposal). But my fav chaebol boss character is Ahn Min-hyuk from Strong Woman Do Bong-soon.

I don’t just love him because I love Park Hyung-sik (although there is that), but also because he was so different from the other chaebol bosses I had seen up to that point. There is no cold exterior here, his face is so expressive and you can know almost immediately what he is feeling. In fact, he uses his whole body in most situations to communicate his emotional state, which is pretty adorable and fantastic. He’s also super competent at his job and built his company without any help from his family’s money. He knows his employees by name and acknowledges their hard work when they do a good job. Far from being the normal reserved, pained, chaebol, he is manic and energetic and above all just fun. I also love the way he sees Bong-soon’s power from the very beginning and loves that about her. To him she doesn’t need to hide anything or pretend to be something that she isn’t to get him to like her, he thinks her strength is sexy right away. He really carried this drama for me, so as much as I love the other variety of chaebol boss, I’m going with him.

Yes, yes and YES!!
The way he goes around high fiving every employee, hangs around with them AND he knows his mind without walking over other people and their contributions. Plus, his hoverboard and his man cave - swoooon! He is so so sure of himself that it is infectious. I am yet to see a male character so secure in his own skin. It was fantastic! The fact his dialouges are to die for. I have often wondered how he did not win all the awards for this out of the box potrayal of his character.
his face is so expressive and you can know almost immediately what he is feeling
Yup. But that's pretty much PHS in every role though. The man is super expressive.
he uses his whole body in most situations to communicate his emotional state, which is pretty adorable and fantastic. which is not the case in any of his later dramas, yet he potrated them with equal success which I find super impressive.

Thank you DB for choosing such fun topics for us.

All the recommendations are awesome but it is a easy pick for me - Joo Joong-won (Master’s Sun) - the OG master of rizz, swag, marshmallow ❤

Also, doesn’t Kingdom sound so much better than King the Land (??).

Joong-won went from:
"I will keep on changing if I keep her by my side. I don't want to change."

To

"Because the woman I love is the sun that shines brightly in the sky.”

"I’m going to continue to live forever by your side. I’ve never once let you go. Because, without Tae Gong Sil as the sun in my world, my world would crumble and fall apart."

“All I do is just listen to you and keep my eyes on you. I didn’t realize what was happening because all I could do was stare at you. Now that I think about it, I’ve been spellbound by you.”

Before Ro-swooning (much much before) I was swooning over So Ji-sub. I even watched (tried to) Doctor Lawyer for him.

My second chaebol boss would be Louis / Kang Ji-sung (Seo In-guk) in Shopping King Louie.

"Totally my style"

"In my new beginning, she was there."

"It feels strangely nice. I’ve never had this feeling before. My body feels heavy and tired, but my heart feels warm."

"It’s okay because we’re together. I’ll protect you. Just trust me."

"I dream of her every night. Seeing her in my dreams makes me miss her, so I cry every night. However, I can’t go see her anymore. My time has stopped."

My mother's pick on any given day is Lee Gon (The King: Eternal Monarch) and Gu Jun-pyo (Boys Over Flowers) because ... Lee Min-ho!

Easiest "only pick one" so far: Louie from Shopping Wang Louie.

He was rich but nice and cute, something never seen before in kdramaland. He didn't use his problems or "trauma" as an excuse to treat people like trash.

He worked to fix his flaws and even earned a place in the "real world" with his own efforts and abilities.

And I can't even remember another ML that was as adorable as him, maybe Ho Gu (from Ho Gu's Love), but he isn't a chaebol.

While all the rich kids were being mean he was being nice.
While all the MLs were trying to be some macho/white knight he was just his cute puppy self.

I just love this dude.

Honorable mentions: Kang Cheol from W.

I'm not even sure whether they're chaebols or bosses, but Seo Do Young in Kangnam Scandal and Song Jong Ho in The Promise made me swoon. They were the nicest oppa-types ever. I miss these two oppas so much. They haven't been on the screen since the pandemic started. Both seem to have found jobs outside of acting. Which is a shame for my eyes and my heart.

It's hard to pick one but I choose Won from King the Land. He truly cares and fights for his employees. He was also able to prove that he can achieve his goals, but to he honest I don't know how he pulled it off when we do not really see him working, LOL.

Jin Moo-hak, Director of Dondon F&B and according to Wiki,
“a company that started as a small gamja-tang restaurant and has grown into a global food service company with more than 400 franchise stores”.
DALI AND COCKY PRINCE (2021) (Viki US). Moo-hak, flashy suits and all, is my favorite Kim Min-jae performance. Outstanding.
Runners up:
BUSINESS PROPOSAL (2022) (Netflix US). Ahn Hyo-seop was terrific as Kang Tae-moo.
STRONG WOMAN DO BONG SOON (2017) (Viki US). Park Hyung-sik gave a great performance as Ahn Min-hyuk and that Michael Jackson move he put on was something else. You will know it when you see it.

On the male side, Business Proposal's Taemu and What's Wrong With Secretary Kim Park Seo-jun takes the top.
Eun Sun-woo from Good Job comes very close.

On the female side, I can't really think of many of them ( KDrama writers this a gender subversion you've hardly ventured into in recent years) but two stand out Son Na-eun's Kang Hanna in Agency and the ML's sister Kang Sera (Lee Da-hee) in The Beauty Inside.

I was trying to think of one, and only came up with Crash Landing on You, but Se-ri had her own company, I don't remember if she ever joined the family business.

I also have a vague memory of a series in which the presumptive mail successor stepped aside in favor of his sister who was already ably running the empire, but that's all I got.

I have to agree with @daebakgrits and go with Jung Il woo’s chaebol in Good Job. For all the reasons she stated, plus whatever supersonic elevator-tunnel system he has to get to the bakery and back. Carbs are my love language! Chaebol or not, a girl’s gotta have her bread and pastries!

Since pretty much every major chaebol ML has already been mentioned, let me throw this name in the ring. Sung Hoon in My Secret Romance. I enjoyed the show and liked Sung Hoon in that and only that drama

I will give my award to the best newest entrance to this category - Kang Min-hyuk. He was awesome in Celebrity and the best thing about that drama. The swagger, the looks, the swagger… I rest my case.

I’m about to mention Kang Min-hyuk in Celebrity. The chaebol of chaebol - that scene of his maid taking off his shoes is now a classic scene. I want to see him on my screen SOON!

I so wish Kang Min Hyuk could be as active in dramas as Cha Eun Woo. Kang Min Hyuk had so much screen charisma from the very first minute he appeared in My Husband Got a Family 11 years ago. I don't want to keep bad mouthing Cha Eun Woo, but he seems more effective in 2D than 3D.

I keep saying this, but Kang Min Hyuk has been leading man material since the first time I saw him 11 years ago in My Husband Got a Family. He was only 21 then, but he lit up the screen and was such a natural. He has a fantastic screen presence. I really hope he gets lead roles from now on.

Chaebol boss roles are the bread and butter of kdrama leading men. Pretty much all of our favorite oppas have played chaebol boss in their career. I liked the brooding So Ji Sub in Master's Sun, even though the drama was uneven.

Only choose one? So many of them are the worst. Among them I must say Shin-yu in his completely-a-slave-of-his-emotions version has something that is hard to resist, but I still might prefer one of the chaebols that are not treating other people like trash.
I think, Go Jung-Won from jealousy incarnate, maybe?
Jang Hyuk has played a Chaebol, and he is ... but that show was terrible, the whole premiss, so really the best thing of that whole series was Hyuk dancing, falling, which I happen to have just giffed, don't know if it works here ...

There's "My Shy Boss", too. I loved his overthinking. Finally a person that thinks in a way I can relate to 😂

And the Ahn Min Hyuk team here - I totally get that. All those Chaebol's have in common to never be *-holes, not to the FL, and not to their employees.
If they have a troubled relationship to their family, the better. I don't think I could easily do the amount of adoration and servility that a good son would expect me to show his mum.
Still, Jung-won, I think. Or ...

To me Jung Won was high-handed and manipulative. Yes, it was always done with a sweet smile and soft touch, but I disliked the steelly look going with it. It was the look of a chaebol used to get his own way, just preferring to keep up a sweet image. We always hear about Hwashin's jealousy, but to me JW's jealousy was much more apparent and damaging because it made him completely give up his sweet image.

But he was never mean to her. Hwashin was terribly mean, both directly when he said horrible things to her, and even more when he, pretending to be the benevolent more experienced colleague, dissed her work. Even when it was apparent that she had been smart and done a good job - even when he imitated the exact thing he had criticized about her (putting himself in the story to make it more catching) he told her she sucked at what she loved. Even while she was on air, when she looked to him for approval, he made a gesture to her like "No, not good, below par".
I saw Jung Won's anger as anger that his friend just HAD to step in and try to get the girl. Actually a pretty good reason to get angry, TBH. You know, JW didn't snatched a girl Hwashin had been persuing at all. He only (momentarily) snatched Hwashin's spot in the sunlight of her admiration.

There are lots of other characteristics I dislike other than being mean. Being manipulative is very high on my list. And I wasn't saying that Hwashin is a better person. I only said I never liked Jung Won.

To me, Jung Won is self conscious in that he knows his wealth and look can get him anything but somehow carries a strange vanity to conquer with grace. In another word, he is not 100% honest as he appears to be. Manipulative may be too harsh a word about his character but not a far fetch description.

As for Hawshin, I always think he likes the girl from very early on and notes her development all along. However, he is too prideful to admit his crush especially when she’s not in the top tier talents in the broadcast station. Yes, he is mean somehow but it’s akin to a naughty boy pulling the ponytail of the girl he likes. It’s a long shot to describe his action but he is a complex guy who is not honest to himself. There is no pretension in him while Jung Won has spades of that.

Very well put.

1

Hwasin does far worse things than pulling the ponytail. He is really doing his worst to make her feel worthless, for starters. Later, maybe, he moderates it to only want her to feel a good deal less worth than him.
LIke having that long speech about how he needs to kiss him, and then stop her as if she was digusting. And talking down her work, when it is obviously brilliant.

I'm not going to pick a romance. I'm picking Jin Yang-chul (Lee Sung-min) from Reborn Rich. Chairman Jin was a shrewd businessman who built Soonyang Group from the ground up, was always one step ahead of his enemies, ruthless when he needed to be, and would do anything to protect his conglomerate. He carried Reborn Rich, and when his character died, so did the drama. Lee Sung-min gave a masterclass in acting and deserved a Daesang.

Yes, that's the obvious one. When I read "chaebol boss" I don't think of young, handsome leading men. I think of the older actors who've played tough, scary corporate guys over the years. Most of their names escape me but not the memory of their characters.

All of the Chaebols mentioned above are very worthy but I am going to give you my favorite: Jin Moo-hak from DALI AND THE COCKY PRINCE.

Kim Min-jae's character was a perfect Nouveau Riche Chaebol - if the show fell short it was in not exploiting that character to the fullest and bogging us down with a stupid corporate and political corruption tale, which turned what could have been a topnotch screwball comedy into a mess instead.

Let us talk about what our "prince" has that could have been exploited to give us a classic comedy of two people from different worlds meeting, coming to respect each other and falling in love:

To begin with Jin Moo-hak was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth- his beginnings were humbler and he himself has been a contributor to his family's success. He is not well educated academically but if we could measure and quantify his knowledge and deep understanding of business, we might see that he is as learned and skilled as a heart surgeon.

Moo-hak sees and calls things as they are- and without a filter.

He has his own unique style (I still envy the shoes he is wearing when we meet him).

Above all, he has integrity. Which is part of why he can love Dali with his whole heart. Maybe that last part is what makes him so endearing.

It is truly astonishing that the writers could have come up with such amazing lead characters as Dali and Moo-hak and then have squandered those treasures the way that they did. I still shake my head when thinking about it.

He is gorgeous in his colored suits, a softie underneath his prickly exterior, intelligent, petty and all that other good stuff that Unit said. Did I mention he has beautiful hands. I find him cute when he is grumpy.

Chalk up another vote for Master’s Sun’s Joo Joong-Won. I’d also be more than happy to work under (in every sense) another So-Ji Sub chaebol: Kim Young-Ho in Oh My Venus. I’m willing to overlook the noble idiocy and “Your body belongs to me” because he checks off so many boxes including:
✅ Hot bod.
✅ Secret trauma.
✅ Adorable sidekicks.
✅ Dry wit.
✅ Adult attitude concerning sex (a.k.a. “sexy fun times”).
✅ Great knitter.
✅ Humanitarian.
✅ Certified EMT.
✅ Always keeps an umbrella handy.

I only watched ahort funny clips on Facebook and didn’t actually watch the drama, so i could be wrong, but would Honey Lee’s character in ‘One, The Woman’ count as an unconventional female chaebol boss? Tjat drama looks like it’s batshit cray cray (in the best way😂) but I think there were company/cooperate shenanigans. I recall a scene where she was choosing who to work with or something, and a funnier scene where she was visiting branches of the company and decided to just lie down on the couche and rest.

My favorite chaebol boss is a family of bosses 😆

First up, we have Joo Joong Won from Master Sun, one of the OGs Chaebol Bosses, then his son Kang Tae Mu from Business Proposal and finally the best of them, his nephew Gu Won. In summary, you can call them Joo Joong One, Joo Joong Two and Joo Joong Three 🌚

But honestly, my favorite is Gu Won. Everyone needs a boss who is constantly learning from their mistakes, listens to you and protects you. I'll probably like to work for King Hotel if Gu Won was in charge.
