My Lovely Liar: Episodes 9-10

The truth about our reclusive composer’s past is starting to come to light, but that doesn’t mean there’s no time for a little romance! Our leads are closer and more adorably in love than ever, and they spend some quality togetherness time this week — but our hero’s secret is also getting closer to catching up with him.

EPISODES 9-10

Sol-hee and Do-ha retreat into his apartment, where Do-ha tells Sol-hee the whole story. His ex, EOM-JI (Song Ji-hyun), started out sweet and shy, but gradually turned controlling to the point of threatening to harm herself so he’d cave to her demands.

When Do-ha finally lost his cool, their public argument made him look like the unreasonable one. That was the night he broke up with her on the beach. He regrets it now, but in the moment he lied that he was cheating so she’d agree to break up. Instead, she hurt herself to show she’d follow through on her threats. In the end, he left her there, afraid that if he didn’t, the whole cycle would repeat endlessly.

Do-ha learned about Eom-ji’s (presumed) death from the cops who arrested him. In his shock — and believing himself responsible — he confessed, but his mother pulled some strings and got him acquitted based on blurry footage provided by Deuk-chan that appears to show him and Do-ha watching a soccer match together the night of Eom-ji’s disappearance. When Do-ha finished telling the story, Sol-hee pulls him close and tells him what he most needs to hear: he didn’t kill Eom-ji.

Fearing that Eom-ho may still be lurking about, Do-ha asks her to stay the night. He lends her a spare jersey for pajamas (she playfully vows revenge for being forced to show support for her team’s rival), and they cook late-night ramyun and watch soccer in his media room until they fall asleep.

The next morning, Sol-hee trips over the episode’s next plot point — that is, she slips on the remote, which turns on a camping show. Since she thinks it looks fun, Do-ha rents a camping set, and they spend the whole day pitching the tent and laughing at each other’s antics. By the fire that night, Do-ha asks about her powers — what do promises sound like? For example: “I’ll love you forever”? Sol-hee says promises register as truth if they’re sincere, but she recommends clients request specific assurances like, “You’re the one I like the most right now.”

Do-ha doesn’t miss a beat. “You’re the one I like the most right now,” he says, and swoops in for a kiss. Sol-hee wasn’t quite ready for it before, but she sure is now. By the time they return home the next morning, she’s the one initiating a final peck on the lips.

Meanwhile, Eom-ho intimidates a reporter into giving him clues about Do-ha’s whereabouts. Namely: follow Sha-on. Which Eom-ho interprets as kidnap Sha-on and call Do-ha to come rescue her. It works like a charm. Do-ha delivers himself to Eom-ho, who grabs him by the collar and demands answers about Eom-ji’s final moments.

Drawing on Sol-hee’s assurance that it wasn’t his fault, Do-ha stands up for himself. He didn’t kill her — she lost hope because he was her one and only dream and she couldn’t handle losing him. What’s more, Do-ha wasn’t the only person who could have saved her — Eom-ho failed her, too.

Do-ha’s words hit home. Eom-ji had once tried to pursue her own dreams, but when her father stole her college fund, Eom-ho had calmed her down by telling her she didn’t need a dream — having Do-ha was enough. Stricken, Eom-ho releases Do-ha, but then, just like before, lunges at him with a knife.

That’s when Kang-min jumps out of hiding and kicks Eom-ho to the ground. He’s finally pieced together Do-ha’s true identity, and he’s heard the entire exchange. He’s still on the fence about Do-ha’s innocence (even less so as he starts investigating the video that was used as Do-ha’s alibi), but for now he’s willing to take them both in and hear them out. Do-ha, however, holds Kang-min back so Eom-ho can escape. Kang-min isn’t happy to hear that Sol-hee knows everything and still trusts Do-ha, warning that if anything happens to her, he’ll be the one hunting Do-ha down.

Sha-on is shaken by her ordeal, but physically unharmed. She’s also gained some perspective: there are worse things than unrequited love. (“I’d rather you be with someone else than dead” isn’t exactly growth, but I suppose it’s a start.) Predictably, Deuk-chan panics when he hears what happened, but Do-ha isn’t interested in moving again. He wants to stay near Sol-hee, both for her sake and for his own. He does, however, suggest he and Deuk-chan stop working together, for Deuk-chan’s safety.

Sol-hee and Deuk-chan meet outside Do-ha’s door. Deuk-chan is still worried, but he admits he trusts Do-ha (this registers as true) and congratulates her on beginning a relationship with Do-ha (false/insincere). Since Sol-hee and Do-ha have yet to verbally confirm said relationship, Sol-hee teases it out of him, and then it’s time for their next bonding activity: the annual neighborhood festival.

Do-ha only needs a little wheedling to agree to help Sol-hee at the festival. They have a grand old time — she picks out clothes for him to wear, and he buys her a signed soccer ball (she doesn’t tell him it’s fake) and draws crowds to the Tarot Café booth by looking pretty while drinking sikhye (lol, it’s like the show is saying, “See? PPL works!).

When convenience store part-timer LEE YOUNG-JAE (Seo Jae-woo) loses his keyboardist right before the talent contest, Do-ha volunteers to accompany him. Which is sweet and indicative of Do-ha’s budding confidence, but when you’re in hiding because of a murder case, getting your picture taken at a public event might not be the best idea. Just saying. Even worse, while Do-ha and Sol-hee kiss under the fireworks, a corpse is unearthed in a forest. Unless it’s a red herring, we’ve found our missing girl — and she may well have been murdered after all.

It’s a good thing our lovebirds are so ridiculously cute together, because — let’s be real — there wasn’t much substance to these episodes aside from getting Do-ha’s side of the story out into the open. But I didn’t really mind, because, again, they’re so ridiculously cute together. I’m glad Kang-min finally gets to do plot-relevant things, though, if only because Seo Ji-hoon deserves roles that don’t somehow make me forget his character exists when he’s not on screen. (That shouldn’t even be possible! It’s Seo Ji-hoon! But I digress.)

Deuk-chan, of course, remains a giant question mark. I really want him to be a good guy — and since he seems to have an actual alibi, I’m hopeful he might not be the killer, at least — but he has some very ominous moments that are hard to ignore. Somehow, the way his concern for Do-ha has been repeatedly stressed as true makes him both more and less suspicious. Is he a well-meaning pushover who’s gotten himself in way over his head, or has Sol-hee simply not asked the right questions to detect manipulative hidden intentions?

Did Sol-hee avoid Do-ha's kiss and question just for him to surprise kiss her? I wanted the soccer media room kiss especially after Sol-hee's indirect confession by comparing Do-ha to soccer. I love that our OTP is finally together and was glad that there wasn't an Episode 8 kiss because being thisclose to dying is definitely not a romantic moment. Did they spend the whole day pitching the giant tent to not even spend the night there?

I never had Second Lead Syndrome because Kang-min is pathetic waiting for Sol-hee to go back to him, and (non)terminal illness is a trope I hate. Before Episode 10 had rewound to how Kang-min saved Do-ha, I wondered, "Aren't you in the middle of a stakeout?" I wish Do-ha had told Kang-min the reason he can't hide things from Sol-hee is because he doesn't hide things from his girlfriend, not because she can detect lies.

I'd been holding out hope until now that Deuk-chan isn't bad, but I'm slowly losing hope. In a drama filled with unlikable characters, Deuk-chan was one of the five characters that I actually liked. Seeing the blurry alibi video, shady brother Jae-chan must've pretended to be Do-ha by sitting with his back to the camera while wearing Do-ha's soccer jersey.

What's with this out-of-the-blue extramarital affair? To expose Deuk-chan's true nature once he catches his wife cheating on him? Deuk-chan's daughter is the cutest, and ever since Episode 6, I wanted Uncle Do-ha to play with her, so I'm sad my dream may be over.

The reason why Sol-hee had heard Do-ha's statement as a lie makes total sense -- he didn't kill Eom-ji but subconsciously believes that he did. I never understood why Do-ha had never questioned why Sol-hee says he's lying if he knows he isn't.

Do-ha's ex made me rage. Eom-ji was toxic and needed mental help. It's unhealthy to have a person be your dream but turns out it was her brother who had brainwashed her. When she rattled off names of girls that Do-ha was cheating on her with, I screamed on his behalf, "Did you stalk me?!"

I rolled my eyes when Sha-on told Eom-ho that she wanted to die tonight. She's obsessed. The writer better not give Chi-hoon to her as a consolation prize. I don't care how big of a Sha-on fan he is, my Chi-hoon deserves better.

Thanks a ton for recapping, @mistyisles!

Even though his concerns and trust for Do-ha were registered truth, his eyes gave it away. He had those strong, unwavering, indifferent eyes when he was alone, when dealing with company matters, even when finding out about his spouse’s affair. I think he had something to do with the ML that nobody knows of.

I was expecting them to kiss there too but it felt like the director wanted the campsite to be their first kiss because the setting was prettier. Which it was but I would not have minded having two pretty kisses in one episode. Three if we count that cute peck in front of the door.

You hit the nail on the head.

Whatever her circumstances, fact is Eom-ji was toxic. Maybe misinformed, insecure and brainwashed but definitely toxic.

Chi-hoon surely deserves better ... drama gods jebal.

"I have no dreams. You are my dream" - I was thinking "Oh my good god. The girl was a nightmare girlfriend." But I ended up feeling so sorry for her when I saw her backstory

With the intro to Sol Hui's dad, I imagine there will be some drama with her mom.

I have never been happier to see someone than Kang Min when Do Ha was about to be stabbed. Eom Ho did that evil stare really well. For someone who has been obsessing for years, it was odd that he changed his mind from "I was her dream"

So contrary to what I thought, from the skull they find at the end, it looks like Eom Ji is dead

With Kang Min digging into the alibi and the finding of the remains, I imagine its gonna get pretty dark soon. Sighh

Do-ha's backstory was exactly what the show had been hinting at all along, with the exception of finding out just why Eom-ji was so desperate and how much Eom-ho had played a part in encouraging that desperation. I hoped for a moment a little hard truth might cause a turn around, but then he went all stabby again.

Deuk-chan is definitely not what he appears to be, but how much he's hiding is the question.

Every time I start wondering what a more nuanced actor could have done with the part of Do-ha, Min-hyun gets all adorable with So-hyun and I just shrug and enjoy the chemistry they have together. He has improved since Alchemy of Souls, so there's that!

Yes, I could ignore all the green acting when their chemistry is this good. Tbh, I have never seen KSH this happy and glowing. I really believe they are in love (in the show).

Honestly, there are veteran actors whose pairing didn't bring up the butterflies in me but I do know these things are subjective and due to many variables. HMY and KSH did great in bringing out each other's playfulness and flirtiness and they showed us convincingly that they truly like each other. Their slow burn and build up was well executed, giving me the joy and warmth in my cold heart because truly I am in the mood for it and I seek it and I got it. Romcom can be a tough genre, what with a passionate and expectant fanbase (I too can be tough to please), but these two pulled off cuteness and adorableness that befit their youth. I too agree that KSH is glowing. Both leads' eyes are glittering and shiny. Somehow, I don't see much difference in their ages, their pairing so well suited. I hated it when KSH acted with men whom I personally think are too old for her (age doesn't matter thingy is not my cuppa). Chemistry onscreen is high up there for me when I watch romcom, and they hit my mark and beyond. I don't need passionate intimate scenes from these two.

Plus, on a sliding scale of green acting, personally HMY is near on the extreme that I like, and don't mind at all. Even KSH can be a little awkward on some scenes jinjja. But I don't mind it too because them together in scenes work. They clicked. There are balanced in the equilibrium.

I think the show nails the most important bits of a romcom: aesthetically pleasing camerawork and the leads who are pretty and have great chemistry.

Yes yes the angles are so pretty! I saw a camera PD in a BTS clip who worked on another aesthetically pleasing romcom I love so much and I wonder if he had a part in these scenes here in this drama.

5

And may I add, watching BTS clips of the two is a supplementary must-do for fellow fans of their onscreen cute chemistry. Their chemistry offscreen and their comedic banter is a truly a treat. TvN knows how to bait us and I don't mind at all. There was a drama slump for me and these two are what I look forward to watch on dreary Mondays.

What I loved most about this episode is Do Ha telling Kang Min that he will not hide things from her and make her happy his own way. Way to go!
Next would've been Kang Min saving DH from Eom Ho. But he lost that goodwill when he told DH to hide the incident from SH. Dude never learned his lesson from his break up. Unless he did that purposely to break them up.

I loved all the scenes between the leads. They are just cuteness personified. But I suppose that will end soon as more people recognize Seung Ju as the murder suspect.

KSH look great dressed as Wednesday Addams.

I loved him saying he wouldn’t hide it from her too. And I was thinking about him not ever lying while watching these episodes. Do y’all think he started doing that after the fateful night with Eom-ji? Before, he said he didn’t drink because at one point he drank enough for a lifetime. So do we think he doesn’t lie because that one lie (that he had another girl in Seoul) had such a horrible outcome?

Deuk-chan was speaking the truth when he said that he trusts Do-ha, but he lied when he congratulated Sol-hee on the fact that the two of them were dating.

So, he knows/believes/has proof (??) that Do-ha didn’t kill his former girlfriend, but he doesn’t want him to date anyone else? What could this be all about?

13

Required fields are marked *

I have this new theory that, as someone told the FL before that she never knew the reason behind those lies, she might never know the reason behind those truths as well. DC may seem like he is genuine about DH, but I guess there are reasons behind these true statements. He might say he trusts and concerns about DH because of his own benefits. Whatever that or those might be.

13
reply

Required fields are marked *

Exactly the question! I wonder if this is all about Deuk-chan's power and control: if Sol-hee becomes Do-ha's main confidant in life, that will mean Deuk-chan will not be privy to a lot of Do-ha's thoughts. If Do-ha then chooses to act independently about the murder - speaking up, revealing new information - this would wrest Deuk-chan's control from him. Since it's likely Deuk-chan has lied to the police (inventing the alibi, possibly more), information getting out without his control would be devastating for him and his business. But I'm still wondering how his wife's affair fits into all of this.

Anyway, I’m glad that the difference between ML and SML is clear at this point. Doha believes Solhee while Kangmin doesn’t.

I still kinda hate Shaon but I LOVE her bar and mini concert scene.

I used to think his acting range was one blank expression. Now, I'm taking it back. I'm thinking I haven't seen his acting range (and I am pretty sure that it isn't huge for now because, let's be honest, this isn't his main vocation), but I'm getting a feeling that he gets camera-shy. You can sort of notice that he is a little less wooden in the latest episodes than he was in the first ones. So, I'm waiting for now. Some scenes did take me by surprise because they turned out better played and emoted than I expected. Having (finally) discovered the range of vocal emotions he can bring through in songs (how did I miss Terius glorious golden hair mask?), I want to believe he's got more in him when it comes to acting.

I look forward to reading this recap! Quick posting a few thoughts I wrote yesterday:

Lots of cute and flirty in these two episodes! Tent construction confusion, kisses, and soccer keyring confessions, lots of smiles for me. Yay!

Do Ha's story was no surprise, we had guessed his lie was really his feelings of guilt. It's refreshing to have a couple who are open and honest with each other. And Sol Hee is learning those fine lines between truth and dishonesty, lying only so that Do Ha feels good about his soccer ball gift.

And then, there's the frustrating part. Not unique to Kdramas are the idiot characters who upon seeing their front door ajar, go right on in... Do Ha is musically gifted and common sense stupid. His friend is kidnapped by a guy who he knows to be short tempered and violent, so what does he do? Call the Police? Nooo, of course not. He goes right over to meet him. On meeting, does he ask about his friend's welfare? No. Then, after he's been punched around and thankfully saved from a knife attack, he blocks Kang Min from arresting the guy???!! Kidnapping, threats, attempted knife violence, oh that's ok, let the guy go so he can try again later. You'd think Kang Min would've arrested Do Ha for obstruction. I wanted to!!

I'm disappointed the ex is actually dead. I still think Deuk Chan is the murderer. Or his brother, and Deuk Chan is protecting him. Not sure of a motive, or was it accidental? Would explain why he trusts Do Ha as he knows the real guilty party, and why he volunteered to be his alibi, securing an alibi for himself or turning suspicion away from his family.

I'll keep watching, I like this one! I'm glad Yul gets the girl this time.

I too initially wondered why would Doha insist on letting him go. Now I feel his guilt may not be totally evaporated yet, and he chose compassion for now. Whether that will have repercussions, we will soon see. Perhaps it was Doha's projections that he too wants to be forgiven for how he acted with his ex.

I love the comparisons between the past and present.

Which brings me to Shaon. Doha can find his redemption through her now. Instead of leaving her and telling her to die when she guilt tripped him, he came to her aid, even stupidly alone, because sometimes, that's what traumatic panicky people do. The over reliance on the self, after believing that he had a part to blame in the ex's death. He didn't give in to her pleadings and didn't further lead her on, and she finally came to the self realisation of what truly matters in their partnership. I am glad that Solhee is the compassionate soul that she is for Doha, relieving him from his useless lie and pulling him out from his lonely and ashamed shell. He in turn for her, helped her further deepen her wisdom and maturity on lies people say to one another. She is a different lover with Doha, and I agree with beanies here who said that Doha gave her that agency to choose what she does with the truth, even if at first it terrified him. This is the love that I want for myself. when my partner gives me courage to be vulnerable, and together, we grow and move forward.

There is a difference I believe, between Doha's useless lie and Solhee's mother's fraud and scams. It is unfortunate though that Doha is in the web of deceit surrounding his ex's death and I am looking forward to see how that unfolds, particularly in relation to how it impacts his relationship with Solhee.

To me, Doha is the victim of circumstances and people around him. I’m beyond happy knowing that there is one soul which he can trust. The FL told him the truth his soul had yearned to hear, the truth that he desperately sought. Sol-hee, with her ability and without her ability at the same time, decided to tell him the truth. She heard his refusing to kill his ex as a lie, but she also chose to trust him. It wasn’t a safe move by any means, but it shows how she now trusts her intuition and wisdom more than her lie gong.

Honesty, loyalty and trust ones of the most important things to have in any solid and healthy relationship.

Required fields are marked *

Well explained! Yes exactly. I agree that he needed to hear the truth and she revealed it to him. It was heartening to hear and very liberating. That scene is rather healing for me too.

I at first wanted Solhee to have more reason to her blind trust. But I agree with you on the intuition. It is her guiding force, so strong it was at that time, finally, when she learns to listen to it. Intuitives just know. Rationalists and the logic-inclined can clash with Intuitives. I am an Intuitive so I can relate to Solhee.

6

Required fields are marked *

I'd like to believe that the logic-inclined clan would also question the lie gong. Does it ring because what is said is factually incorrect or because of the belief of the person who said it?

6

I do love the trust and communication between this couple. They are growing and learning from one another, and their relationship is beautiful.

Yes, I can see your point about his guilt in why he may have let his ex's brother go. Compassion is a wonderful trait. However, if someone goes to the length of threatening someone close to me, I draw a line. Shaon is annoying and toxic but she's been Do Ha's friend for years. In his shoes I would have a difficult time feeling compassion for a person who threatened her safety. And if he went after Shaon, would he attack Sol Hee next? So I get that Do Ha wants to be forgiving, but for me, DO NOT attempt to harm someone I care about!!

true. In this instance, it would have been odd if the ex was still alive. She didn't seem the type to orchestrate her fake death. So, given the writing and plot lines so far, her death was unavoidable. But I agree, writers do not need to murder everyone around for the sake of mystery (at the same point, I can't say I'll miss Eomji)

Still over here mourning the fact that Jazz Club Ahjussi has been sidelined (hopefully only for now!) but also pretty happy with the increased screentime for the musical convenience store worker. I’ll take it as my consolation prize.

But what is going to be my consolation prize for Deuk-chan becoming less endearing with every episode? I have a lot of sympathy for him - finding out your wife is almost definitely having an affair is a rough time no matter what - but he used to be such a bright point whenever he dropped in on Do-ha. And now he’s just sort of vaguely unsettling. He trusts Do-ha but he’s not happy for him? What am I supposed to do with that? *sigh*

I am happy we got the whole story of what happened that night, at least from Do-ha’s perspective. I totally get why he’ll feel guilty about that forever, but I also get the feeling of being trapped in a relationship that keeps cycling through toxic stage after toxic stage. I’m more suspicious of his mom than ever. I don’t know what I think her involvement is (did she order someone to do it? Just help cover it up?), but she did not seem happy that Do-ha was dating Eom-ji in the first place, and would have been happy with the whole thing ending. Is Sol-hee’s dad, who lives out in the mountains, going to turn out to be an important witness when it comes to that body they found at the end?

At the end of the day, I’m still really enjoying this drama. The leads are pretty adorable together, and I love watching them both do things that they haven’t ever had the guts to do before. I think a show needs to spend a good amount of time establishing a couple (otherwise the writer is just telling us they like each other, instead of showing us), so I didn’t mind these episodes focusing on our OTP in a big way.

I also wondered why they brought Sole's dad back. Not that I am complaining. It's lovely to see Ahn Naesang again, especially after the useless role he was playing in Miraculous Brothers. Now, he's got his own tent, his Tarzanesque mane, and a whole forest to play. Yay! Solhee's mum seemed shocked to see him there, so I am hoping for future interactions between the two and him to support his daughter.

Aw, I guess I’m alone in thinking the show sagged even more with these episodes. Yes, our OTP is adorable, but the romance is also a little bland. Certainly not enough to make up for the flatness of the rest of the show. However, trouble is coming. It might do the show good, or not, but something has to shake up the plodding story.

Yeah, they’re cute. But the romance could be equally at home on a tween Disney show you know?

I’m trying to figure out why the show lost its mojo for me. I found it fun and zippy in the beginning. But as the show shifted from our FL’s story to our ML and his trauma, it lost some of that.

However, it is not a bad show. I do like them and we have a mystery to add some narrative tension. (Whoa. I’m grateful for a murder mystery in a romance?) And maybe this is just the saggy middle and things will pick up again. 🤞🏽

I'm with you. I sat through most of these episodes just because the OTP is cute together, but as you said, their story is bland and the chemistry isn't compelling enough to overcome that. I still like the way the writers showed that men can be the ones who end up emotionally abused by their female partners, but other than that, the show isn't holding my interest.

I'm liking the other "Lovely" show much more at this point.

Yes, we don't often see male survivors of intimate partner abuse. And HMH does have that air of vulnerability.

If the show hadn't gone in the alt fun "Loonie’s Tarot" direction Seon-ha mentioned, it could have alternatively leaned more into being a healing romance. But that would have required a whole different writer, director and cast.

Not alone. For an episode that punted the plot quite far along, a whole lot of nothing also happened. I’m getting a little bored. At least it was colorful and pleasing to look at, and I covet Do-ha’s aloha shirt. Everything about the plot progression screams “12 episodes, ending coming soon” and I truly cannot guess how the show can reasonably fill 6 more - I would not regard a whole bunch of the moms, the dad, and Violent Oppa as reasonable, and I don’t care about Deuk-chan’s wife’s affairs. I do recall him telling Do-ha that not even his wife knew he’d bought the apartment next to Sol-hee’s, so that’s one more mark in the suspect column for him.

Also, I’m starting to feel a non-happy-ending coming on.

This will be an interesting Challenge of the Oracles (Dust Up at the Delphi? The Tussle Like Tiresius?) because I myself do not see a bittersweet ending for this one. I have to say I am not as engaged in this show, so will happily join other acolytes in elevating Elinor as Outstanding Oracle if I have guessed wrong, but I think we'll end with some cutesy lie at the end with alarm bells going off-- "I need some cardiopulmonary resuscitation" or "I sleep best if you are in bed with me" or something like that, and there will be giggles all around, as the theme song kicks in. But again, if I'm wrong, please worship Elinor as your Dramabeans sooth-sayer. I certainly do!

4

@attiton LOL. I’m firmly in the peanut gallery with this one. TBH I’m enjoying chatting with y’all more. But life and other dramas await. Thnx for the reminder.

4

@atttiton @indyfan My tussles with @hacja generally involve obscure 1970s California pop-culture references, and Do-ha's aloha shirt is as close as this show is going to come to that (I can't seem to link, but google "Jeff Spicoli Hawaiian shirt" if you want to see just how frighteningly close). My pessimism about the ending stems mostly from recently being burned by That Other Drama but also from seeing that there are fads in kdrama ending styles, and the not-so-happy one is in fashion right now. I'd put the odds at no better than 50-50 for this show.

I am not a romcom fan. This is a euphemism. I tend to hate them. But then, many romcoms have unnecessary drama at their core, from lack of communication to unexplainable years of absence occurring just before the last episode (why? why do you have to separate the leads for 1,2, 3, or more years? How is that effective storytelling?!). I am skipping over the typical poor helpless girl cliché with the cold-hearted (but secretly fluffy as a bunny) chaebol heir CEO... These throw me into a raging fit just thinking about it.

But here, we've got an independent and successful business woman with an equally successful composer. One is still being pursued by his past (and will inevitably because scape goat numero uno as soon as the mountain skeleton is identified as Eom-ji — girl, how did you end up being killed and buried in the mountain rather than the beach? Obviously, we are missing crucial points of the story, but that is part of the plot. Yet, I am surprised there was not one witness who remembered suspicious people dragging a corpse up in the mountain. However, we do have a witness in Solhee for Doha walking away at the time of the incident. Anyway, I digress) and the romcom serves as a healing journey to free up from his past. This isn't the so overdone clash of social classes.

We've got people who communicate, and this is exacerbated by the fact that hiding something could ring the lie gong as we've seen with Solhee and Kang Min. This is quite a big change for romcoms (although, there are others romcoms where the Mrs are able to talk through miscommunication, such as Oh My Venus for example).

We've also got people who instinctively are on a similar wave length. They understand what the other needs, and this is quite refreshing for romcoms too (it has also appeared in other dramas).

I like all those green flags that are crucial to any relationship, not just romantic. So, while the romance may not be sizzling hot, the green flags do bring the much-needed healing from many romcoms that glamourise toxic behaviours.

But yes... I wouldn't have been able to stay tuned without a mysterious corpse (must admit, I need a corpse in my romcom... whether it is the skeleton in the cupboard or an actual corpse. Thankfully, I don't have a therapist, otherwise, I imagine, they have reported me to the authorities for that statement)

But what can I say. I’m greedy. I want both! And yes, I also want better plotting, pacing and narrative tension. I want it all! So, yes, perhaps I’m delusional as well. LOL.

And, I was for sure you weren’t gonna like it for the toxic mama. But the show isn’t giving her a pass at all (so far at least). 🤞🏽

lol... Fair! Ah both moms are competing for toxicity. But they do not come even close to some of the best toxic moms of 2023, so I'm ready to forgive them. I think the fact they have only little screen time also helps keep the toxicity under control!

We got to see some scenes with Solhee's mom that showed more nuances, though.

There's a scene from Solhee's childhood where mom warns her about telling people about her lie-hearing abilities. She says "people won't want to be your friends"... and as harsh as it is, I don't think she was trying to hurt her daughter. I think she was genuinely trying to help.

Later on, when she's getting her nails done, she is considering apologising for her previous outburst. She doesn't, but there's something in her that knows she is in the wrong. She knows it, but she is too focused on her quest for fake happiness that she can't act on it. (Unlike the Good Bad Mother who genuinely believes that drowning her son is the best she can do as a loving mom) Admittedly, I wish she could get the idea and try to make money in a slightly more acceptable way... More skills less scams, lady.

One thing we can give her credit for, though, is that she is trying to maintain a relationship where she talks to her daughter. (admittedly, terrible relationship and she would rather avoid her unless she needs coins) Dad doesn't even talk to Solhee. He sends photos only. Is it because he is somehow afraid his daughter may see the lies he writes?

As for mom number 2... I am on the fence. She did irritate me a lot for her shortsightedness. But she has been keeping her distance without interfering so far. So what if she's toxic? Does it matter given we never get to see her? Interestingly enough, she went to the festival and left as soon as she spotted her son smiling. This might have been a political decision and choosing not to cause troubles that could potentially harm her career (I can't guess, she's got barely enough screen time for me to figure her character out) but perhaps that was the mom in her choosing to leave him be for now. Being hopefully here.

The mystery is mystery-ing but not really in a ‘wow complex guess who game’ and more in a ‘this feels like a lowkey mess and I feel like the reveal is going to be lacklustre’ way. I’m still suss of DC and I’ve settled that I’ll die on this hill. His reaction to Do-ha saying he’d leave the company + we don’t really know much about how his relationship with DH began + the ‘congrats’ lie + his paranoia about SH + that face he made getting into the elevator + he way he was reporting to DH’s mum like a snitch (I don’t buy that he ‘didn’t mean to bring it up’ YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WERE DOING) = it’s suss.

The ominous music playing in the background throughout most scenes didn’t help either. I don’t think he killed the ex-gf, but he knows something and I don’t his hands aren’t clean, idk. My tentative and possibly outlandish theory: either someone else killed her and DC and/or Assemblywoman Jung found the body and buried it to ‘protect’ Do-ha OR they found her all bloodied up, assumed she was dead, panicked and buried her to protect him. It would line up with why they both don’t truly believe in DH’s innocence and is a better motive because I don’t think either would have benefited from ordering a direct hit on her.

The strongest part of this show continues to be the development of the main couple’s relationship though, and the commentary around the morality of ‘lying’ and pit-falls of taking statements at face-value sometimes. Everything outside of this is teetering on the edge of going lopsided and/or is filler in my eyes anyways. There were a fair few question marks this week from me, because it felt like random things were brought up without any real explanation or development - like the dad in the woods (??), the convenience store boy’s hyung being a J Ent. artist, SH mum’s shenanigans, DC’s younger brother’s business partner stealing money from him and going MIA, Deuk-chan’s wife cheating on him, and whatever the heck is going on between the three townspeople trio. Really starting to feel like the show may have bitten off one too many subplots to chew properly.

The ex gf though - gosh, her story is tragic. It doesn’t excuse her behaviour at all but she was going through a lot and I wish there had been someone there to guide her to professional help or something. But I appreciate that they did flesh out her character a bit instead of leaving her as some one-dimensional psycho girlfriend. I kind of hope someone notices the same behavioural patterns in Sha-on though and prompts her to seek help. I also felt quite bad for her this week, because she’s problematic yes but also is very, very lonely and in a cut-throat industry, so it’s probably doing a huge number on her mental health. Being a trainee is no joke, so there’s probably a lot of internalised issues from back then wrecking havoc on her now, and as solo artist she isn’t afforded the benefit of at least having group...

members to rely on or be friends with either, so I can see where her obsession with Do-ha started from. I think it’s poor form on her management’s end to not really notice the state of her mental health and do something about it. Even if you see your artist as dollar signs, surely you can recognise that poor mental health is going to impact her performance and star value. A little extra miffed with Deuk-chan, because he’s seen firsthand how dangerous her obsession can get, but all he’s done is just either antagonise her further or been like ‘shut up and stay put’ basically.

I think for me, the mystery is just lacking a little because I want to play guess-who properly! But Do-ha and the brother are the only ones we know have connections to the ex-gf and the only ones who've had flashback scenes. Oh and ex-gf's dad too now, but yeah I kind of wish we had a few more hints or like other people's connections mapped out a little more if that makes sense? Like a little more insight to DC's history with DH and also what DH's mum was up to at the time, that would maybe bring the mystery to life a little more for me.

But in saying that, I realise we've actually still got like 6 episodes to go so time to build still I suppose. I think my brain got a bit panicked because we'd overcome major obstacles that usually are resolved in like ep 14, so I keep thinking that we we're closer to the end than we actually are 😅

Maybe we could also ask for other fun plot lines at that time??

5

@indyfan now that you've pointed this out....*chuckles nervously*

Surely, SURELY, surely NOT that dark home stretch?! But yes drama within a drama is where it feels like we're headed @attiton, and although I've said the townspeople trio feel like filler - I'll take filler over angst and heartbreak in any form. Heck, I'll even watch a re-kindled love story between SH's mum and dad at this point, just no more tears please.

7

Maybe a creative Beanie with a flair for script writing could even help us with fan-written fun plot lines...

@froyo had me thinking about a love triangle between Eomji Doha and Deukchan, and frankly, this needs to be written (especially in case we get another Heartbeat ending)

Also I want to see more of their shared past.

And somehow, does Doha practice kissing by sucking the key of his keyboard? The piano seems to be the only intimate relationship he's had since Eomji... So, we want a scene on that too

4

I see what you mean with playing guess-who properly. I need more clues! I want to see more of each character so I can investigate on my end too.

Nah, episode 14 is for big bad breakup so we, the viewers, can get traumatised for another 2 episodes before the end.

I didn’t like ep9 unless it was about the OTP and they’re spending time together.

Ep10 is much better imo. We got to learn a lot about so many trivial things which should end up giving as the whole truth about what really happened with the ex gf and the ML’s backstory. The ex gf’s brother needs to be out in jail, his behavior is dangerous to the society regardless of his motives.

The kiss was the best part. As someone has mentioned on her fanwall, the ML is a smooth operator.

I love that the OTP spent time together being the OTP. There have been a lot of shows already that showed the OTP being infatuated with each other, but didn’t show us how they got from point zero to their sizzling chemistry. It’s true some people might be star-crossed lovers, and they fall in love right away, but surely that’s just 1% of the whole human population or something. So keep on giving us cute moments, show. You know this is your strongest point.

I’m sure DC is sus. The way I see it, which might be right or wrong, is that he trusts DH. The thing is he doesn’t seem to be able to trust anyone around him (eg Syon, his brother, his wife), so DH is the only person he can really trust. He has trusted DH since they met in school. He has been possessive of him. My guess is that he was the one who told DH’s mother about DH’s ex (perhaps with his usual opening line: I don’t mean to tell you this…), and let the mother get rid of the ex. She might be the one who ordered her death. DC now did the same thing with SH.

I really wish the ex was alive. Now the show seems to take a super dark turn and I’m not sure I’ll be able to stomach it.

When you say "the ML is a smooth operator", now I have to ask... Do you mean he's on point with the lips and tongue actions? Because I first read it as such, and then I thought perhaps you meant the flirting bit that led to the kiss. So, just for the sake of my own conscience, was I accidentally running with the filth?

Not sure, I should call it filth. The smoochiness of the moment feels more appropriate here.

Anyway, smooch aside (despite how beautifully un-dead-fish-like it felt), I am okay with the the ex being dead. It is the most logical explanation for her disappearance. She didn't seem like someone who would orchestrate a fake death. What I am not okay with is the utter lack of clues about anything that could have happened to her at the time, except for the beach scene. She had no social circle or connection depicted (except for insanely obsessive bro and I'm-gonna-steal-your-coins dad) so it's hard to figure out the why and how she might have ended up buried in the mountain.

I think smooth operator in this context means both the way that led to the kiss (and many potential kisses before), and the kiss itself. Everything looked smooth and sensual (enough) for me.

I think your explanation is logical. But my heart and mind held on to that hope that maybe, the show wouldn't let her die. I think her backstory is very sad. That's why a small part of me still holds on to that hope that maybe she isn't dead. If she is dead, someone close to the ML had to be the culprit. Given how bad he has been hurt (intentionally and unintentionally) by people around him, it would be heartbreaking if someone close to him did it.

The most suspicious is his mum.

Did he already know Jo Deuk-Chan when everything happened? It's not very clear when Do-Ha became an song writer.

For Jo Deuk-Chan lying about the congratulation, it's maybe because he own marriage is failing and not because he's against their relationship. But he's acting weirdly.

Do-Ha was really stupid to let the brother running away. The guy threatened Syaon, even if I don't like her, it wasn't really cool for her. If he didn't reach him like he thought, Sol-Hee could be the next target. You don't stop a cop to do his job. Trying to kill someone is not really trivial.

Gang-Min didn't really learn about the past. Hidding things doesn't protect people! But Do-Ha would have done it, if he didn't know it was useless with Sol-Hee.

The kiss scene was kinda disapointing... Kim So-Hyun doesn't look very confortable in her kiss scenes.

Yes like @attiton said. Seon-ha was actually the behind the scenes person who made sure the awards came into being by overseeing the process of designing and naming the awards based on a suggestion from me and a naming process developed by @mellowarmadillo.

im sorry i just see your comment :') actually, i wanna comment in the last eps post but since most of Beanies didnt like how they portray Deukcan's character as a '"villain" and focused more on him being a gay character than the plot and main characters i kinda lost the urge to comment. i think the drama ended pretty good and i like how the murderer reveal and my favorite part is the main couple still the healthiest and the most honest couple in this drama, i take the green flags as a win

Last week I was about to drop this drama, but I didn't.
Fortunately, I have slightly liked these two episodes more than the rest.
I'm not really invested in the story, but at least I didn't get bored this week.
(I had to FF a pair of scenes, to be honest).

Now I want to know if Deok-chan is a bad person or not. He is hiding something but I don't think he killed Eom Ji (if she is really dead). I think he lied when he said "congratulations" because he doesn't feel it. He has just known that his wife is cheating on him, so he might be jealous of Do Ha's happy moment (now I'm not sure if he already knew about her wife's affaire when he run Into Sol-hee).

About the OTP, they are cute but still far from giving me butterflies. I don't know why.
But I find the baker boy quite endearing! And I still love seeing Seo Ji Hoon on my screen.

At least Sha-on has gotten some level of growth. It was sad and unhealthy to see her constantly pining for a guy who explicitly tell her no. " I'll better see you date someone rather than dead " is a huge great start in the right direction.

Do-ha's backstory is really sad. It was for the sake of his own safety and health, and Eom-ji's as well. But it turned to bite him instead of save him.

So Yoon Ji-on is likely playing villain here😩. This isn't what I bargained for.

Hwang Min-hyun's green acting is really evident here. Seo Yul might have kept it hidden or it easily waxed into the character but Do-ha makes it evident in ways more than one. Still, he has moments when he shines. Initially, I was worried about his pairing with a seasoned actress like Kim So-hyun. Yes, the worries were verified, but, he stood up to the occasion in many scenes as well.

I'm starting to think the reason that Deuk Chan trusts Do Ha is because he either knows who murdered Eom Ji, or did it himself. Which is depressing because I really liked him.
I'm confused about the extramarital affair and the need for the track on Sol Hee's parents, why are those here?
Also, HMH isn't the greatest actor, but I think he really pulled out his best in these two episodes. The banter between him and KSH felt very real, and he did great with the scenes with Eom Ho and Eom Ji. I didn't feel like I needed a better actor for those. So Hyun is lovely as usual, even better with the two plaits.

We have no seen anything about Deukchan's past so far. it is implied that he knew Doha then, but we haven't seen their relationship then. So this leads to many, many questions:

- If Deukchan killed Eomji, what would be the reason? It's not like she was interfering with his entertainment business because it didn't exist at the time. Would he know her? I'm not sure. Eomji didn't strike me as someone who would have had a big social circle.

- We've seen Eomji's dad, who seems on the dark side of the Kdrama force. Is he violent enough to murder his daughter and bury her in the mountain? He seemed more interested in stealing than actually abusing her. Besides, why would he come back to her? It's not like Eomji has got anything left he could steal. But, it's hard to judge one character on a 12-second scene.

- Did Eomji witness something she shouldn't have? Was she at the wrong place at the wrong time? While this doesn't hit me as a place packed with underground criminals, we did see Solhee work with a gang in the same town at the same time. Why would they kill an innocent girl? Well... Good question. One of them certainly had no qualms trying to hurt Solhee. So, who knows? More importantly, why would they have buried her? Why hide it when they can pin it on a rival gang?

- What bothers me is not the fact she was killed (I mean, she was unbearably toxic, why would you want to keep her alive?) It's the fact she was buried at a completely different location to where her items (bloodied shoes) were found. Because I see 2 cases here. #1/ Eomji was the one who left her shoes on the beach (for some overly dramatic reason after carefully bleeding on top of them). Where would she go bare foot? Surely not to bury herself in the mountain like a tidy little corpse. So, leaving the shoes there makes little sense when her body is elsewhere.
#2/ Someone killed her elsewhere and brought the shoes back to the beach. This may not even have been done to throw suspicions at Doha, but perhaps in an effort to provide an explanation for her disappearance. If they killed her elsewhere, can we assume it was in the mountain or did the killer also added some epic cardio session after the murder by carrying Eomji to her improvised burial spot? She might have been light, but how can you not get noticed carrying a dead body on your shoulder? So, this brings me to wondering if Eomji somehow found her way to the mountain herself... And if so, why?

I'm trying hard, but I don't have enough insight on Deukchan to guess his involvement. What I know is that Deukchan's brother, suspicious as he is, still believes Doha killed Eomji. So, he played no role in this tragic story. Deukchan did call Doha a murderer (by mistake), and it feels like it is an impossible mistake to make if he had been the one who killed Eomji in the first place.

So, I am also wondering if we have actually seen Eomji's murderer already. We may have, but if so, we are still...

... we are still missing too much info to draw any useful conclusions. There is no back story for anyone except one beach breakup scene between 2 characters. So, it would feel odd to introduce a new character who would reveal themselves to be the murderer in the end.

My suspicion is that we have probably seen the murderer already. But perhaps it was never a murder but a homicide.
Accidental death is a possibility, such as road accident.
Other option: Eomji is a super tidy corpse, and she buried herself first. Unlikely.

Something in the preview for the next episode may suggest we are about to learn some new clues about someone's health. So who knows where that will take us

You're telling me that Deuk Chan was not lying when he said that he trust Do Ha !!? Since there was a bell sound, and she made a face I was persuaded that this was a lie. There was very few bells in these eps, so I'm definitely not able to differentiate the sounds. And yes, Dol Hee told Do Ha that his friend believes him... but she lies all the times ! It seemed logical to me that she told this type of noble idiocy lie.
Maybe I'm too old, but I do not find cute that she acted like a unexperienced teenager. But I also think that Seo Ji Hoon outstage and outcharism Hwang Min Hyun, so I might not be the target of this drama. And where is the consent ? She was talking work (how to believe a love declaration) when he swept in quickly for the kiss. And then we were taken on a tour of all the filler characters...

Somehow, the show has decided to show lies with a sound and show the absence of lie with another ringing sound too instead of silence! Just for extra confusion!

Seo Jihoon's character is, thankfully, in very capable hands because he would not have been so likeable played by many, many other actors. While, Hwang Minhyun has been given a character that is likeable and that the viewer should want to protect from the start... so yes, no comparison here.

Consent? I did not have any issue there. He was obviously flirting. She was obviously okay with it from her body language, the fact she chose to spend an entire day with him, and their previous encounters so far. She also did join in the kiss too. I note she didn't ask for his consent to hug him the night before. Did you have an issue with this too or is this just hyper selective consent?

She is fairly green though when it comes to relationship given her abilities and the absence of trust in her previous relationship from literal years ago. I placed it more as being cautious for her own sake. She's been burnt before and she hasn't had lots of opportunities to practice dating with someone she trusts.

I don't remember the hug, sorry.
He expressed his interest several times, and she evaded everytimes. Yes, she is smitten too otherwise she would not have spend the day with him. For me it would have been a better scene if he had waited for her to register what he said, instead of kissing her immediately. Maybe it's my interpretation of the scene, but I find that it doesn't match the respectful and shy way he behaves otherwise. Even if I understand that he had to act otherwise we'd still have only flirting. (which would be better than the side filler stories)

Well, wait a second. Would bells have gone off? It could have led to a great deal of passionate confusion!

1

A verbalization would have been great, but out of character. This boy is the silent type. His first instinct, or learned behaviour as @jls943 theorized, is to not talk and not answer, but to elude. Although he said to Kang Min that he would not lie about his bruises, he wore a mask to dissimulate and did not volunteer an answer. Only when she began to speak of fewer/cold did he realized that he had to tell the truth to prevent entanglements.

5

Isn't verbalizing a desire / permission before a kiss a fairly new thing ... Lee Junho (actor) in King the Land and Lee Joon-ho (character) in Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

5

@seeker yes, that's a new thing and that's a good thing that I want to see more ! I wish it becomes the norm.

2

@darwi
Agreed. In this day and age unequivocal consent clearly communicated before any skinship is very important. Kissing her first and then waiting to see if she wants to go ahead is walking a very fine line.
Any skinship with Hwang Min-hyun may be difficult to resist but still - prior communication and express consent is the way to go. Aja Aja Junhos!!

Oh god no, no more flirting fillers, please!

I completely agree. I hate surprise kisses, and it was totally out of character for him. I don't need verbal consent, but at least wait until she turns her head and looks at you before swooping in for a kiss. I don't understand why the writer made her evade all of his advances when she's clearly smitten, but I'd have much preferred the kiss in his house where he leaned in slowly.

I don't think it is entirely the writing. I was trying to reply to @attiton and @darwi more in depth (and to list all the elements that I saw as indicating consent in the most autistic way I could possibly find) and I stumbled upon the behind-the-scene video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWTpklyjxh0&t=263s

They are rehearsing lines in there that I did not hear in the final version. So... there may have been more to the scene, and there might have been more to many other scenes before. So... I want to blame the writer, but I can't.

That being said, I did not feel verbal consent was needed at that point. There was also a pause in the kiss. We were first given the dead-fish-contact kiss when Solhee turns her head. But then Doha pauses and waits for her reaction. I get it's not the same as consent (I really didn't need it there, but this makes me want to carry a consent form back home when I don't want to hug distant relatives — "I didn't sign this, you can't touch me") but I saw it more as giving Solhee the room to decide whether she wants to carry on.

5

I hear ya, @darkcc. These are some of the most difficult "unspoken" rules that humans have to negotiate. That's precisely the reason, though, that some of us would like consent to become more "spoken" than "assumed," so that no one is confused, misunderstood, or taken advantage of!

5

Cecee @DarkCc:
I can't speak for @darwi or Seon-ha @attiton, but I'm referring to the dead-fish-contact kiss. There was no pause between "I like you" and that kiss. I don't know if it's the writing or the editing, but she had just avoided answering his question in the previous scene "You don't think I'm your fate now?" which comes off as her rejecting his advances.

Like I said, I don't need verbal consent, and her closing her eyes during the kiss is K-drama sign for consent (🙄), but like @darwi, I wish that he had waited for her reaction before kissing her, instead of waiting for her reaction whether she wanted to continue the kiss.

2

@darkccc , as @panshel said this is a two part kiss:
- first a swooping dead fish kiss
- pause
- consensual kiss

On the topic of physical contact : where I work, it is customary to faire la bise when you meet a colleague. It really annoyed me to have this check-contact with sometimes strangers that no-one in the coffee drinking group was able to name. (You were really frowned upon if you did not participate to the bise ceremony, it happened to a colleague that gained an stuck-up reputation). So I was very happy that after the pandemic it has become accepted to just nod with a smile.

6

The kiss was sudden, but I felt like Do Ha was a little nervous and so he swooped in quickly. He did pause to let her pull back if she wished.

So I've been waiting for that kiss scene for weeks now and squealed through the whole thing. I was surprised at how he sweeped in before Sol-hee even registered the confession but it was so pretty and sweet and then they kept going and I couldn't stop squealing and hugging my pillow. Needless to say the scene was replayed more times than I care to admit. What I didn't like this week was how the mystery elements kept stealing screentime from the OTP because the build up from the last weeks meant I was expecting more OTP confession and dating phase this week and less knife obsessed brother, suspicious CEO and dangerously ambitious mother. It was nice seeing Ahn nae-sang but I also didn't see why he was suddenly introduced with no context or interaction with our leads. Episode 10 was sweeter because OTP went around doing OTP things but overall the week felt like filler and even though we had the surprise body reveal (I still doubt its her but lets see) at the end of the episode and well as the backstory it still felt like there were too many side characters getting screentime that could have been spent on the OTP instead and having them bond over the mystery that still traumatizes him. I also miss Sol-hee and her clients, the story shifted entirely to Do-ha's backstory reveal and Kim so-hyun and her superpowers kind of felt forgotten this week. I want to see how the superpower and mystery elements tie in with each other because I want to see the OTP work together since they make a good team. I loved how they worked together on the side plot to help the baker last week and thought it was an effective set up to have Sol-hee help Do-ha clear his name and help the brother come to his senses. This drama generally does a good job of balancing the romcom, fantasy and mystery aspects so I hope they go back on track next week. Still if they keep giving OTP sweetness and kisses I might continue to forgive them for the annoying bits.

I'm with you there on that last sentence too firefly! It did feel like the mystery elements were stalling OTP time, which is annoying on two fronts, because a) I want more OTP time and b) I want the mystery to be done properly, and NOT feel like questionable filler half the time :(

I wish they would use Sol-hee's powers to solve the mystery instead of using the mystery to keep the OTP apart for angst. Romance dramas are always more fun when the OTP works together to sort things out. I love how these two communicate with each other so I'm expecting any big misunderstandings but the mystery component and romance would work a lot better if they let Sol-hee put her powers to use. I'm also curious why dad has been bought back suddenly.

I will list theories that stood out to me from all my readings in various sites since Ep9 and 10 aired:

1. Deukchan's claim in believing Doha registered as truth:
DC either knows who/how Eomji is dead. Some said he is the killer but I feel like he knows something that has yet be exposed yet so I will not put all the sus on him yet. But I do think he played a part on the disappearance of his bro's restaurant staff/partner. If wonder if something will happened to his wife's side man.

2. DC's 'congratulations' to SH and DH's relationship registered as 'lie'
He either worries for them (if he is not a killer) so he can't sincerely congratulates them or.. if he is the killer, he likes Doha and jealous of Seolhee XD

3. Seolhee's dad brought back into the scene (I honestly thought he is a cameo) because he also can hear lies and will contribute into the case. Seolhee's ability might be inherited from her dad. But I dunno. If this is true why he married the scammer mom in the first place? Was she an honest person before?

4. Theory based on ep11 preview: [SPOILER]

5. I don't think Doha's mom is the killer either. She probably helped to hide Eomji's body at most. She might not be happy with their relationship but I don't think she had good enough reason to kill her son's gf and causes him to be suspected as a murderer.

My two (or three) cents:

1) I don’t think Sol Hee fully understands her power and it seems strange to me since she’s been dealing with it her whole life. The first time she realized a truth could sound like a lie was just now? And she really never considered that some lies could have a noble reason, even when she had that case with the guy planning the wedding proposal?

2) Someone asked if the truth/lies are about facts or what the person speaking believes. Sol Hee has made it clear that it is what the speaker believes. We even had that bakery case where both the baker and the client where speaking their truth (he that he was clean/ she that she saw a bug in the bread) and Sol Hee stated just that.

3) In one of the first cases we saw - the man who impregnated the maid, it seems like he was able to fool Sol Hee for a moment when he said he loved her ‘cousin’. Was he replying to another question in his head? Or did he say it thinking of the maid? If that was the case, there is a hack to evade Sol Hee’s power and it’s not clear whether she realises this or not.

Finally, it bugs me that Sol Hee has said that what matters is what the speaker believes at the moment and even so she didn’t consider that a person could tell a factual lie she believes is true (would ring true), or the contrary, due to lack of confidency for instance, say something that is actually true but ring false to her. I hope the show delves deeper in this subject.

I have no clue whats going on, it feels like I lost my rose-tinted glasses and the show now seems stagnant with the acting being quite off-putting. I found myself fast forwarding during this week's eps compared to when it first started and I was hooked.
Maybe I'm watching too much Moving omg.

Aside from that, I still find the mystery aspect intriguing. I read so many theories with Deok-chan being a suspect and boy did I not suspect him at first but after reading that theory I started to "Press "X" to doubt" his "facade" as the people closest to you are the ones you should be wary of. And this week's eps just added fuel to that theory.
Dang it Deok-chan I really liked you.

I had this theory that Syaon was Eom Ji, she went under the knife and it would explain her toxic & heavily reliant behavior towards Do-ha, seeing how eerily similar Eom Ji's behavior was previously.
Also each time Kang-min appears on screen I just sigh heavily as he went from me having respect for him to lowkey pathetic and he needs to move on before making things tougher for himself.

Anyways, really looking forward to the reveal on what actually took place

I feel you! The rose-tinted glasses are slipping a tad for me, and I'm not as enamoured with the show in whole like I was at the start. I feel like this week's eps will be make or break in terms for my love for the main couple - I like them, they're my main drawcard for the show now and I've squeed over them consistently BUT if we somehow end up going back steps or if it starts to get shaky for no good reason, then those rose-tinted glasses are going to be slipping off further...

Agree wholeheartedly. I paused watching this show at ep.8 because my last thread of interest for the OTP was fraying once they confessed to each other. Even learning that Do Ha's ex was dead & buried and that Deukchan was acting weird, didn't pull me in further either, so I decided to put this one on a mental shelf & watch something else until the whole drama had dropped. During that time I had the pleasure of watching "Behind Your Touch" which first gave me the tentative vibes of "WHAT in dickens am I watching?" but then it turned me amazingly quickly into a fan favourite. I'm now chomping at the bit waiting for the final 2 eps. coming next weekend. WHY? Because that who-dunnit-murder-mystery has everyone stumped. My two guesses have died already. I love the drama because it mixes physical comedy with the absurd...the characters are quirky but yet feel real as they deal with situations that are way out of their world view. The charming cast of villagers are well-drawn and each becomes a great source of suspects for the beleaguered local team of detectives. It's appeal also boils down to the stellar acting of Han Ji-Min and Lee Min-ki who have this very thin but constantly growing connection between them as they work together hunting for the serial killer. Their dialogue keeps them irritated, distant & distrustful of each other, yet their gestures & tone of voice begin to change as they begin to know, then trust & rely on each other before they are surprised by their feelings. I am loving their slow, oblivious yet incremental steps forward into romance. So now that I come back to this show, I find I'm sadly not invested anymore. Is it because I left it too long? I'm not sure, after all, both dramas carry the same star rating on Dramabeans. But for some reason I'm feeling a bit antsy now watching the cute awkwardness of the OTP in Pretty Liar as well as the developing mystery of the cold case murder from quite awhile back, when I am actually still so committed to "Behind Your Touch" and the police team's desperateness to find the murderer still at loose in their small town. Worst still, they have to depend on and protect a psychic who needs to touch bums in order to see the video of a person's recent past...which is a way different means of finding out if they are lying. Lucky Solhee in 'Pretty Liar'. She just hears a bell, whereas Ye-bun's 'power' from a lightning strike is to to find out if a person has been telling the truth by touching them on their 'bottom'. The Detective finds very inventive ways to help her do it surreptitiously. Pretty bizarre right? So it's very hard to compare the two. For me, Pretty Liar has all the pretty people and lots of the tropes we all like (an evil ex girlfriend, a controlling Mom and Boss, with a very hunky & likeable second lead.) What's not to like ? And I do like this drama but haven't fallen in love with it yet. As for "BYT", when I first started it, I was only going to...
