Shin Hye-sun remembers her past in See You in My 19th Life

The first teaser has dropped for tvN’s new fantasy romance See You in My 19th Life, featuring our reincarnating heroine Shin Hye-sun (Mr. Queen) and a quick glimpse of her leading man Ahn Bo-hyun (Yumi’s Cells 2).

While most people forget their past life when they’re reincarnated anew, the webtoon adaptation makes Ban Ji-eum (Shin Hye-sun) a little special, giving her the ability to remember all of her past lives. As Ji-eum, she is now on life number 19. But this time, she still feels tied to her 18th life as Yoon Joo-won, compelling her to seek out Joo-won’s past love Moon Seo-ha (Ahn Bo-hyun).

In second lead roles, and further complicating matters, we also have Ha Yoon-kyung (Extraordinary Attorney Woo) as Joo-won’s younger sister, in addition to Ahn Dong-goo (The Law Cafe) playing Seo-ha’s secretary and childhood friend.

Beginning with her first life, a few thousand years in the past, the new teaser cycles through each reincarnation, embodying different genders and cultures over time. For example, the fourth life was spent in the Middle East, devoted to alchemy, while life number five fought as a Goryeo warrior. Number 14 was a flamenco dancer, and number 17 joined the circus.

We then reach our heroine in her present life and as she turns to face the camera, Ji-eum’s words are repeated in the captions: “Going to you again in my 19th life. See You in My 19th Life.” The teaser then closes as Ji-eum finally meets with Seo-ha.

Directed by PD Lee Na-jung (Mine, Fight My Way) with scripts by Choi Young-rim, tvN’s See You in My 19th Life is slated to premiere on June 17, following Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 in the weekend slot.

Even if I’m not sure about the premise yet, I just know Shin Hye-sun will somehow turn this into a Baeksang worthy show

I started this one too but turns out that even webtoons with a thriller element are too scary for me! I liked the concept though.

Same feeling! I was thinking it would be a great drama when I was reading it, so I was very excited when I first heard about the drama adaptation... and Shin Hye Sun!

Obviously someone at tvN is into numerology, hoping that the good luck some cultures associate with the number 19 leads to large audiences for Ninetailed 1938 (because of my mathematical ability, I was able to figure out that 38 is 2 times 19!) , 19th life, and then the upcoming saguek the 19 Princes, ending the year with the nostalgic slice of life drama Reply 2019. That last show will appeal to many DB commentators and most of the staff as they recall the year they turned 19.

Not me--the 19 aches and pains I'm experiencing in my aging body make me feel like I was born in 1919!

Thank you. I've long prided myself on my ability to add. Its true that I find subtraction and division a little more challenging, but doesn't everyone?

She met him in her 18th life... It means he's reincarnated too? Or he's still the same person?

The story is intriguing, I wonder how her past lifes will play a part in the story.

In her 18th life, she was in her early teens when she met the male lead who was a young kid. She was fond of him. I think she dies a couple months after they met and gets reincarnated right away into Life #19, so the male lead would still be alive...but at this point, he would be older and she would be physically younger. I think this was the only time she was reincarnated so soon that she could meet up with people from her previous life. So we've got the childhood trope plus a noona and an oppa romance!

I wonder how they will pull this off, since I vaguely recall she doesn't look ther same in each life.

It’s really hard to respond to these kinds of questions isn’t it without giving away spoilers. That’s why when I hear about dramas based on webtoons I always go and read the webtoons, if they have the episodes available. I loved Good day to be a dog and have started The girl downstairs the K drama is currently called Doona.

Sent before I finished my thought. I didn't finish the webtoon, but I wonder if they will cover lives 1-17 and if they will have well-known people play the role, sort of like The Beauty Inside.

In the webtoon they're about nine years apart. I'm wondering how they'll pull it off in the drama when the actors are almost the same age.

I really like the Korean title of the show - Please Take Care of Me in This Life As Well. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue lol but I am fond of the phrase "잘 부탁해"/ "jal butakhae". Feels very specifically Korean.

She looks different here? Is it the colour of her hair, or her bangs, but also her expressions?

I read the webtoons, but I am impatient and got tired of scrolling , I love that they give her past lives such beautiful images.

Yes she looks different looking at the poster. I have to watch the drama to ascertain whether she is the same person as the older dramas I watched that she acted in. Could be the lighting or the hairstyle. Then again, there are celebrities that have dramatic changes to their face like Renée Zellweger. In my opinion she looks much prettier now and I like it.

I think they decidedly to change her styling - which is much softer and feminine than all her previous roles. Good way to differentiate the man-woman persons that she had created iconically.

I am in awe of those who can see something in this (way too) fast trailer.
By the time I have recognized a number, the general colour has changed and everything is different, and it is already finished.

It makes me feel old and unadapted. I hope it has not much to do with the drama.

I loooove this webcomic (not as much as A Good Day to be a Dog, though) so I'm really excited. Especially for the second couple, who legit made me cry at times!

I'm really not a fan of the "Reincarnation and past life" tropes but I hope it would be well executed. I'm sure the acting would be good because of the cast and Tvn has a number of shows with amazing cinematography and scenic directing so I'm sure they won't miss out on that part.

This is one of my favorite webtoons, only eclipsed by Spirit Fingers. And Ban Jieum is in my top 5 favorite heroines of any media. So, I am tangled bit of excitement and apprehension for this one.

I really like the webtoon. So excited about this!

Curious to see how Ahn Bo Hyun will portray the male lead. He's different from what I had in mind. I was also apprehensive about him in Yumi's Cell, but he was wonderful there.

I love this actress and I loved the webtoon (I read it as soon as I heard of this adaptation) so I am completely hyped for this.

Not sure about her hair tho

The hair colour and bangs are styled so as to be faithful to the webtoon character. Actress Shin Haesun dislikes bangs and prefers her original hair colour when not working.
