Divorce Attorney Shin: Episodes 9-10
by lovepark
Lots of developments this week as our divorce attorney wraps up his latest case and dives right into his next one which may prove to be his biggest battle yet. While our hero marches towards his goal, those around him also find themselves at new crossroads and must decide if they want to move forward as well.
EPISODES 9-10
The short story “Our Toes are Alike” by Kim Dong-in is about an infertile husband and his young wife. One day, she becomes pregnant, but the husband ignores the obvious signs of infidelity and chooses to believe that he is the father. Thus, he grasps at any sign of resemblance and points out that their toes are alike. (For those interested, here is a link to a translated version.)
Like the famous prose, the farmer finds himself in a similar situation, and Sung-han reveals to the court what the husband knew all along: he is not the biological father. As Sung-han unravels all of the wife’s lies, the final nail in the coffin is her cause of injury — she planned it with her boyfriend to frame her husband. With that, the media turns on the wife and asks Sung-han if he will sue her for slander. Glaring at the reporters, Sung-han points out that she was not the only one to smear his client’s reputation.
After winning the case, Sung-han goes camping with his friends, and they talk about the farmer and his wife. The others tell Jung-shik that the farmer bought an apartment for her and their son in a different city, but in the end, she returned to him.
In some ways, the case depicts a bittersweet conclusion reminiscent of the short story that, I will admit, is more hopeful than the original. However, I feel like the case was wrapped up a bit too neatly, and a lot of the social commentaries were left untouched. Maybe it’s merely a disconnect between my own preferences and the show’s message (I am not a huge fan of the short story), or maybe I’m missing some cultural context to fully understand the impact. Either way, I wish the show could have offered a more modern take on an old tale and fully utilized the potential of its case, especially with the Vietnamese wife.
The trio sit at the ramyun shop together with bright smiles since Granny (cameo by Kim Hae-sook) is back! She shows her love to her regulars by scolding them one by one, but her scathing remarks are worth the delicious food. While Sung-han and Jung-shik praise Granny’s noodles, only Hyung-geun offers So-yeon a compliment. In that moment, she sees Hyung-geun in a new light, quite literally. (How is Kang Mal-geum this cute!?)
While our adorable ramyun shop owner falls in love, Seo-jin and Jun investigate their own case and go to meet the schizophrenia support group the husband supposedly attended. However, the sight of strangers sends Seo-jin into a panic, and she makes up an excuse to leave. Jun has enough tact to realize what is happening, and later that day, he confides in Sung-han about Seo-jin.
Jun attends his first mediation after joining the team and proves his worth as a capable attorney. Despite his cheeky attitude, his arguments are solid, and he exposes the husband’s lies without breaking a sweat. With all the evidence laid out, the husband drops the act and shows his true colors as an ableist scam artist. He gets into a heated argument with Jun, and the two start fighting in the middle of the room with the mediator doing his best to break them apart.
News of Jun’s skirmish has already reached the office by the time he returns, and everyone treads carefully as they comfort their newest hire. Sung-han barges out of his office, and unlike the others, he berates the younger attorney for his actions. However, Sung-han means none of it as he goes on his usual spiel of good-looking people needing to be careful in this world, and Jun nods along.
Discovering her feelings for Hyung-geun, So-yeon finds herself at an impasse. Her dream has always been to open a macaron shop but that would mean closing the restaurant. She asks her pet turtle for advice, but when that turns out to be fruitless, she gets Hyung-geun’s number from Jun and asks the source of her doubts directly.
Hyung-geun comes out to meet her — even dressing up for the occasion — and listens to her questions sincerely. He tells her to pursue her dream even though he prefers ramyun, and So-yeon has her answer. As Hyung-geun does his best to fight off his drowsiness, she asks him another question: was his ex-wife his last love?
After that almost-but-not-quite confession, Hyung-geun runs to his friends who beat him up for telling So-yeon that she was his first love. They get more animated by the situation than the actual recipient and ignore him for the rest of the night as punishment for his dense reaction. Pfft.
The team celebrates winning the farmer’s case, and Jung-shik tags along since he helped investigate, too. The friends tease each other relentlessly as usual, and for the most part, everyone enjoys the party.
On her way home, Seo-jin gets accosted by a drunk man who brings up her video, and all her fears coming rushing back. Sung-han intervenes and scares the man away, but Seo-jin remains shell-shocked by the encounter. She asks to be left alone, but Sung-han tells her to be strong. He knows that it will be tough, but he reminds her that they have accomplished harder things before.
Reflecting on his words, Seo-jin goes out into the world the next day and picks up her son from school. They go shopping for his shoes at the store, and Hyun-woo asks if she is alright. He says that he feels happy to be out with her again, but Seo-jin confesses that she is still scared. However, she is willing to try and hugs her son.
Sung-han’s next case is his biggest yet: Lady Ma’s divorce. While the other side busies themselves for the upcoming mediation and media frenzy, Sung-han bickers over marinated crabs with Hyung-geun. Despite being at a disadvantage, Sung-han seems rather relaxed about the whole thing.
Harboring some worries, Lady Ma asks Sung-han if he is not afraid of the chairman’s team of lawyers. In response, he plays her Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and tells her the history behind the piece. He plans to take a similar approach and will do his best even with the odds stacked against him.
As Sung-han tries to find an angle to make a case for Lady Ma, she invites him out for lunch and hands him all the evidence he needs to win. She recorded the chairman’s affairs for nearly three decades and has notarized settlement agreements and voice recordings. Sung-han points out that even a newbie could win her case with this, but Lady Ma argues that no one but Sung-han would have the drive to see her case to the end.
Following her humiliating defeat to Sung-han, Young-ju is summoned to the chairman’s office where he reprimands her for her actions. Chairman Seo tosses the divorce papers from his wife onto the table and tells Young-ju to resign from her position. Before she leaves, he comments on how Ju-hwa was such a nice person while Young-ju, on the other hand, always seemed shameless.
In spite of the chairman’s sharp remarks, he keeps Young-ju by his side and sees her shamelessness as a perfect quality to fill the position of his spokesperson. He tells her that this confrontation with Sung-han is a transaction, not a battle. The outcome will not be decided between a winner and a loser, but by how much she can bargain on the chairman’s behalf.
Young-ju asks what she gains from this proposition, and the chairman laughs at her predictability. She demands her stepson’s shares as compensation, and the chairman agrees to give Young-ju her daughter’s shares. However, Chairman Seo asks what she will give in return if she fails, and Young-ju hesitates to answer. The chairman laughs again and tells Young-ju to stay in her place if she loses.
Meanwhile, Seo-jin decides to stop hiding and accepts the offer from her friend and old colleague, PD Bang, to start a streaming channel. The show does well with old fans coming back to support her, and PD Bang tells her that the world might not be so bad after all. As they take a stroll outside, PD Bang advises her to look up towards the sky once in a while, and Seo-jin looks around to fully appreciate her surroundings.
Though there are plenty of positive comments on the channel, there are also a lot of haters, and a particularly malicious troll keeps attacking Hyun-woo. Rather than run away, Seo-jin musters up the courage to face the commenter, but her heart sinks when a fourteen-year-old girl shows up.
Seo-jin tries to be understanding, but her compassion only angers the young girl more. She asks why someone like Seo-jin would go so far to protect her son while her own mother abandoned her to live with a rich husband. After the young girl stops crying, Seo-jin tells her to ask for help next time rather than leave hateful comments. She asks who will help her, and Seo-jin tells her that there are good adults in the world.
Taking a break from the case, Hyung-geun and So-yeon go on a cute camping date. He even decorates the campsite with lights and pulls out all the stops to impress her. The two of them have a wonderful time together, but in the middle of their date, Hyung-geun realizes that he misunderstood her when So-yeon mentions going back home tonight.
From the next site over, a lone tent starts shaking with laughter, and inside, we see Sung-han and Jung-shik peeping on their friend. As usual, Hyung-geun went to them for advice about this camping trip, and even though he told So-yeon that his friends were smart enough to not tag along, he grossly overestimated their maturity. However, Jung-shik’s bladder gets them caught, and Sung-han sheepishly tells the couple what a coincidence this is.
Sung-han meets with the chairman’s legal team for the first time, and after exchanging pleasantries, they get down to business. The other side denies the affair claims, so Sung-han hands them copies of the evidence from Lady Ma. He points out that this also proves the decades of work she did to protect the company, painting this not as tale of a spiteful wife but as the tireless efforts of a businessperson.
After the meeting, Sung-han paces around his office and worries about how smoothly things are progressing. A knock at the door interrupts his thoughts, and to his shock, his nephew walks in. Sung-han realizes that something is wrong after seeing his expression, and his nephew tears up as he asks his uncle for help.
The show is almost over, but it seems that Lady Ma’s case might not be the last hurdle Sung-han needs to overcome. With the sudden introduction of Gi-young at the end, this slight pivot might be the exact thing the show needed before its final act. One of the story’s selling points was Sung-han’s background and his motivation to switch careers so late into his life (which seems to be a drama-exclusive plot point). While the tragic end of his sister was the primary factor for Sung-han’s change and something the show will have to answer in its last two episodes, I think Gi-young’s cry for help might be the real reason for our hero’s journey. Rather than have the past motivate him, this allows Sung-han to have a present, tangible goal that also gives him the opportunity to grow.
In a previous episode, the show depicted Sung-han struggling with the loss of his family, and he fails to see a hopeful future. However, with Gi-young in the picture, Sung-han will have to step up and realize that he isn’t alone — his nephew needs him, too. It also follows the general tone of the show that leans more heavily towards reconciliation, since Sung-han’s goal then becomes saving his family instead of avenging them. Also, it is becoming increasingly obvious that the Seo household is toxic beyond repair from the cheating grandfather to the evil stepmother, and while I’m unsure of the possibility of this scenario, I hope Gi-young can escape and grow up in a loving home.

One of the reasons I read weecaps of this show is because somehow it paints an entirely (maybe not entirely but big enough) different picture or interpretation than what I watched. I *still* don't understand what the stepmother's goal was farmer & the wife case. Was it to make him look like a bad lawyer? Was it to make him take on an socially unfavorable case? How does either thing benefit her? Being a bad lawyer or taking a socially unfavorable case doesn't mean you aren't allowed to be an uncle or a part of a child's life.
And with that case, it all amounted to what? Now people all know was cheated on and lied on, the wife's boyfriend helped framed the husband only to then abandon her, the husband put her up in an apartment only for her to return to him. What was the point of this? Was it to feel for the husband? If that's it then sure I feel for him and I thought the short story was a touching connection. Especially given that in SK, apparently adoption is looked down, criticized, and judged. The husband just looked at his son as a little miracle to him. And the fact that he just welcolmed them back by taking his son wordlessly was affecting to me.
Sidenote: I don't understand why it's made to seem like Attorney Shin should be underestimated or he's some kinda of novelty joke just because he was previously a pianist. He took all the classes, got all his qualifications, and he's won cases. Are people not allowed to be talented or skilled in different things? I think we're even led to believe that after whatever with the stepmother, he plans on or is considering closing the office to go back to music.
I didn't understand how the schizophrenic's husband was still saying he was deceived after it was revealed he sought out the support group before he joined the church. In his mind, the parents were hiding it by not starting every service with a "Hey, our daughter is schizophrenic. Now let's pray"? I don't understand how it was a "win/win" situation; the woman was living her life fine enough before he entered it and his deception triggered a backslide for her. The main takeaway I got from it was that he had an inferiorty complex and he got with her, at least, in part because it somehow made him feel better about himself (even though, again, she was completely better off without him).
Speaking of inferioty complexes, seriously what is the deal with the stepmother?Clearly, the in laws don't think much of her and the husband is such a non factor to me, I don't even know his point. At first, I thought she felt some kind of entitlement to the husband because she liked him or they dated first before he met the nephew's mom and now it just seems like her goal is money? Status? So, she's bringing nothing to the table except entitlement?

If I recall what we learned from earlier episodes the stepmother and our Attorney's former brother-in-law actually had a relationship before she was supplanted by Attorney Shinn's sister. And her in-laws do not like her. The purpose of the farmers case was to smear Attorney Shinn as the champion of wife beaters.
But here is the thing that has become fairly obvious: The stepmother is really not that smart.

LOL yes! I came away from this episode thinking that the stepmother isn't that formidable an enemy after all. She's almost pathetic if not for the way her attitude and behavior affects Gi-yeong, and the way her greed may still one day deprive Gi-yeong of his inheritance.

Did you notice how easily the Chairman deflected her from even getting close to his grandson's inheritance? The Grandson is the son of his son: In a Confucian society that is essentially an unassailable position. This is a big part of why I see her as foolish. She is so emotionally caught up in her version of what should have happened that she cannot see what actually happened.

YES. She actually has the future of the clan in Gi-yeong since he appears to not just be a grandson but may actually be the eldest grandson. But despite clinging to him, she appears to simultaneously want to be rid of him so everything can go to her daughter instead.

Not just as a champion of wife beaters, but as a defender of people who hurt their spouses(by, cheating, bring abusive or any other vice) and still get a good deal out of it. Do not forget that they mentioned Seo-jin's court win during the court proceedings to create a bias against Sung-han in the Judge's mind.

Yeah, I didn't get that either! That was unnecessary, unprofessional, and uncalled for *AND* it added nothing to his case because the judge just ignored it. I forgot what he called her but I think he alluded to her being unworthy of raising her son?
I know he used it as a segue to "people have their reasons for cheating" but ugh, it was such a bad look; it's almost like he was just over things while also being full of disdain for Attorney Shin.

I think the stepmom saw the case as a sure win—both legally and in PR terms—for her law firm and an opportunity to one-up Sunghan, and therefore tried to milk it for what it's worth by sending the farmer to him.
She was probably counting on his pride or anger or animosity to goad him into recklessly taking on a "losing" case. If he had not taken the case, she would get to call him a coward; if he took the case, he would have lost (or so she thought).

I totally agree with you regarding the case of the farmer and his Vietnamese wife. Why did the step mom got Attorney Shin involved? Why was Attorney Shin's BIL has very little screen time as though he is of no importance to the plot.

I think the writer is showing he is insignificant and it’s the people around him that make things happen. He is just an extra in his family and probably life in general.

This show is good, that I will not dispute. Since it will be ending soon, there are many flaws that should be covered in future episodes but probably may not even see the light of day. Some of them has been covered in this comment sections and others that are glossed over such as Jo Jeong-sik's hatred of Park Yu-seok, the life of Atty Shin's sister before her death and also the life of Jin Young-joo before that event. This is important as most of the plot revolves around Atty Shin's relationships with his sister, her untimely death, her son, her ex, her in laws and her ex's new wife. I doubt the next 2 episodes will be sufficient to cover the back stories that is central to the plot. I may be wrong.

In some ways I actually appreciate the Chairman's pragmatic attitude: He knows that he is going to take a hit- he simply asks for the best price he can get. No wonder he is wealthy. He is not an admirable person and has done a lot of wrong, but he is not deluding himself.

Yeah. It's also why he is fine with having shameless people around him because he can use them to get things done. In a way, the stepmom is like that too—you see that same attitude in her interactions with Atty. Park. It's turtles all the way down.

He’s no doubt a top dog - pragmatic with a laser focus on cutting the loss. It’s a very well-written and consistent character despite the limited screen time. The actor (who plays Shin Hye-sun’s father in Forest of Secret) is doing a great job here, not showy but with gravitas.
The DIL will become 10 times more lethal if working directly under his tutelage - at the moment, she’s just greedy and pathetic.

I love that a show about 3 male friends gave us some solid female friendships! they all stand so tall and so strong. Love their bond, their support to each other and love Ramyeon lady more.
I too thought the divorce will be the big climax but it makes sense it is Gi-Young! The only way he can be freed is if the evil step mother gets divorced and she loses custody of the child. Grandma also has an intent to remove him from the house.
So I wonder how this will pan out.
I love how Ramyeon lady was a sport even though the two friends totally crossed the line and invaded their date/privacy. She is such a sport.
I hope we get to see the kids also as part of the camping.
I am a bit sad this show will end next weekend.

Kim Hae-sook's cameo as the Noodle Shop Mama. Just like @bbstl, I yelped immediately I her face came into view.
The precursor son-in-law treatment over a bowl of rice. I just melted.
'Gentle. I like the sound of that.'
' I'm also rough around the edges'
'Rough and gentle'
What a dialogue - simple, short and concise.
I liked Seo-jin's return back to radio. l loved that Sacred Divorce never forgot how much her job as a radio OAP meant to her and they gradually built it up to this moment.
I liked the fact that they finally let Choi partake in a hangout. The guy has been everything nice but they ain't returning the gesture. BUit, I acknowledge the baby steps.
And please, I have to give an award to Ma Guem-hui for 1.) being a good granny and 2.) not giving Jin Yeong-ju any peace of mind.
Gi-yeong asking for a representation? The finale is going to be unclear waters for a chunk of the time, not that I do not want it. Anything to soil the linens of the haughty.
Hyeong-geon is gentle and steady. All I see is a lion waiting to be unleashed.

Thank you for the weecap, @lovepark!
I thought this line from the summary was particularly compelling because Sung-han said pretty much the same thing to Seo-jin when he reminded her that she should (and can) be strong for her son. Now he'll have to follow his own advice.
I still want to know if the stepmom is somehow culpable for Ju-hwa's death. The initial flashbacks made it look like an accident, but then they kinda implied a more sinister possibility with the 1225 phone number subplot.
The friendship between the three men has definitely grown on me with successive episodes. I still don't fully appreciate the humor in their interactions. The whole "the depth of my affection is apparent in the degree to which I needle you" relationship style is not personally my cup of tea, but the three actors are wholehearted in their performances, so props to them.
Sung-han's brother-in-law is the most *useless* man alive. Why that character even exists in this story is a mystery to me.

I don’t know about others but I’ve felt that taint of sadness in Sung-han throughout the drama, despite of the three supportive friends and winning cases.
So, I thank @lovepark sincerely for the observation of a hopeful future with Gi-young as the pivot. He’s already an empathetic attorney as we can see through his interactions with Seo-jin and the farmer guiding them to the life after. The same should happen to him.
Cho Seung-woo is such an amazing actor to bring out his loneliness and sadness in a subtle and barely-felt manner.

I'm guessing that the stepmom bribed Atty Park to do a bad job and rewarded his cooperation with a position at the law firm. I don't know KR law (or any other country's law, for that matter), but I guess it would be some form of obstruction of justice.
Also, I hadn't realized that the stepmom was a lawyer! Is she? Her title is PR Director, which to me sounds more like Comms/PR/Marketing rather than lawyering.

At the end, the fact he was a pianist teacher didn't play a big role in the story. I'm curious about his sister divorce case.
If he takes his nephew's case, what will it be? Abuse?
The step-mother is stupid. Telling she wanted Gi-Young's shares showed how bad she is. She's an adult and he's a kid... She created her defeat with the Vietnamese's wife case.
It would be nice if Seo-jin's son could act as an kid but he's the one who is protecting his mother and not the opposite.
Kim Hae-sook's cameo was really fun to watch. I can imagine her telling about her weird clients to her daughter :p

The 'piano teacher' angle will occasionally appear in those conversations where he brings up specific musical pieces (e.g., Erlkönig with the farmer and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with Ms. Ma). And the fact that he's frequently singing when he's alone is probably another indication that music is often on his mind. But yes, the Beethoven strategy seemed to have been irrelevant when Ms. Ma had decades of evidence gathered.

He gave up his dream job to pursue justice for his sister. That’s how I would summarize the role of his former life as a professor of piano performance. He was not a mere piano teacher. I think we’re supposed to get what he gave up from the video of him playing piano while drunk and the lawyer who took the video. His nephew is too important to him to stay in Germany, and he needed the tools to protect him.

Except, he didn't do anything in is sister and nephew's case. He was there for his nephew but again he could have been anything else than a pianist. If he chose to change his job, it didn't mean he had to stop completely playing music. Why he did? They didn't really adress the change, what he costed him, etc.
It just I was hoping that music would have a bigger place in this drama. For now, there was one performance.

@kurama i think it’s guilt. Him not playing the piano. It was mentioned earlier (in a conversation with the MIL) that he put his piano rendition a priority when her sister reached out to him. She needed him. And he was not there for her. And losing her made him feel guilty. He came back for revenge (against the lawyer) but he is also fighting his own demons. He wants some form of closure but I don’t think he knows exactly what he wants. He wanted to go after the lawyer but he is starting to see more now that he is in close quarters.
So his nephew’s freedom might be the one that heals him eventually.

I agree. But the issue, it's the drama doesn't adress this part of the story. There are only 2 episodes and I guess they will focus on the past. But it's weird to adress the ML's feelings at the end of the drama. They gave some clues like the purple grape.

@kurama I had similar thoughts when he made such a big deal about his piano playing being filmed and attracting alot of views. I thought his reaction was like someone who had to hide or be undercover and he had drunkenly outed himself.
Then I thought maybe because he was a musician, he thought he was playing badly so it was cringey to him to see & hear but to everyone else it just sounded good.
Regardless, I don't understand the *big* deal of his pianist past aside from he thinks in terms of piano pieces & trot songs. Maybe because music & the law are so opposite each other?

April 4, 2023 at 7:37 AM
@kurama I think you are right that it is guilt. That's why he was uncomfortable playing anymore. He has a nightmare about playing the piano with his sister! But also, I want to observe how cool the writers of Korean dramas think both classical musicians and professors are. They have all kinds of ambivalent and even negative feelings about the law, but nothing but glory to heap on classical music.

The only reason why I didn't drop the show is the chemistry between the three friends. The actress portraying Seo-jin makes it difficult to empathize with her though it is an interesting storyline. I love So-yeon and her mother. That single scene was more pleasant to watch than many scenes.
I am not fond of the show turning into the Seo family drama. They are caricature characters, especially the stepmother. I wanted to see Sung-han helping different people, learning from them, and growing as a character too. Perhaps we could have the last case as saving Ki-young from that suffocating household but I wish the rest of things were pushed to the background.
We could have Sung-han's back story as it is but focus more of his journey towards becoming a better person and attorney.

I had been eagerly anticipating Seo-jin's story arc when they gave us the door-repair scene in Episode 2. I was half-hoping we would see her MacGyver-ing her way to the solution of a case or two. But sadly, the rest of the episodes have just been "I'm a shy wallflower" scene after another.
Granted, she finally did the streaming show thing, but Seo-jin (the character) continued to be quite bland, and her on-air monologues were just so boilerplate that ChatGPT could have generated something more interesting. Heck, PD Bang has more life and spark in her fewer scenes than Seo-jin, and that's such a shame.

She is not shy, she is trying to recover from the trauma of a sex tape she did not know was being recorded, released to the public, and later to find out her ex husband showed it to their child. On top of the abuse she received in the marriage. She was ready to give up going back to radio, which is why she went to the law office, to get experience in another field.
She couldn't even take out the trash without people talking about her 2 feet away.
Come on now.

We all know she is having it hard but her emotions feel flat to us. The same bland facial expression all the time.

Oh yes, I have a lot of sympathy for what her character went through. I guess I was expecting more after talked about being willing to be 'shameless' about seeking happiness in an earlier episode. It had seemed like it would be a turning point for her, but nothing meaningful really happened.
Possibly related: I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop from that scene where Atty. Shin was asking himself why he was getting so worked up about the negative comments that were being left on Seo-jin's videos — I was dismayed at the possibility that the show is setting things up for him to end up in some kind of relationship with her. IMHO she's not anywhere ready—she needs to find her own strength before she gets involved with someone or else she's forever this damsel in distress.

@lovepark thank you for including the story source that is exactly the kind of thing that I am drawn to when I am watching a drama and I hate that I am not able to find the reference. Why don’t they do PPL on that kind of thing? I loved the poem about stars from Romance is a bonus book and had to search for that for ages before finding the English translation.
I can’t believe the show is ending but I loved that both the in-laws told evil step mother to know her place and that she does not have the power she thinks she has. It’s almost like she is a second female lead that got her man but the gains were not what she thought they would be so continues to behave as the second lead insecure and manipulative. We don’t really see how the husband treats her or the children he is such an insignificant presence. We just see that she picks on a child in order to throw her power about in the home and tries to control her subordinate lawyer but even he does not like or trust her. My hope is that the driver is the one that supplies the evidence needed for the nephew’s case as she is constantly ordering him to do the things that impact on the child and his look while he observed the child eating the noodles all alone in a convenience store when he lives in a mansion said it all.
I also wonder if the mother in law couldn’t explain that her message about kindness on the wedding day was referring to her own situation and knowing her son was taking after his father in being a two timer. In her son’s case he had fallen for the wrong woman and whilst he was obedient to his parents and did not marry her, he clearly just kept her as a not well hidden concubine and married her once he had produced the son with his first wife and his first wife had died. I just realised the connection between Giyeong and his mum both being shown isolated eating ramyeon in a convenience store. I also hope they wrap up the night his mum died and whether the distress caused by the call was because the step mum rang her to say something about Giyeong as it almost seemed like he stayed with his dad as part of the divorce deal.
Again the treatment of the rookie winning his first case and receiving minimal acknowledgement was really grating and unnecessarily cruel. Either he is an outsider not to be trusted and they sack him now his spying duties are no longer needed or he is fully integrated into the fold having proved his true colours and commitment to the team, the half way house is not nice to observe. I hope they resolve this part of the storyline before the show ends and he does not remain the Jeongsik of the office. I didn’t like Jun’s character at first and he is still a rough diamond but I think he would grow quicker with support rather than the current approach.
Jeongsik’s office is always empty, he has no money to pay rent and is rubbish with women, but surely he would have had a long term relationship like Hyeonggeun but we we not given any background on him. He is...

You're not alone. I don't know if it is played for laughs, and even if it is, I'm not liking it, laughs or not. It's like they're banking on the goodness of his heart to not sell them out if the situation arises or they want to say I told you so, if he does sell them out. If Choi Jun does sell them out, I'll ve very understanding of it cause the entire staff of Sung-han's office, Sung-han included have been total jerks to this guy.

I’m with you on literary sources. I started trying to look up the first author they mentioned and realized it was a joke! I think the sin of the stepmother was that she insisted on taking custody of Gi-Young from his mother in the divorce. I suspected suicide, not murder, in that case.

Yes, I agree that the rookie lawyer is under-appreciated. However, I think it would be far more unrealistic if he were to be treated with anything other than barely-civil tolerance because he only got the job by extorting it out of Atty. Shin with the piano video. He'd been asked repeatedly to take that video down, and he didn't because he was personally benefiting from it. He then used the video as leverage to get a job at the firm. IMHO, he's going to have to pay his dues and prove his loyalty first before he gets out of the hole he dug for himself.

“Did you think she was the only one who slandered him?” Best line ever.
As far as the Vietnamese wife, why would he take her back? She did it once. What is the guarantee she won’t be tempted by a younger guy a couple years from now?
The banter between the 3 friends is precious. I wish I had friends like that. The scene where they were teasing Jung Moon Sung endlessly about his hemorrhoids or when they argue about the crabs, it was all hilarious. I could, though, do without the extreme closeups of Kim Sung Kyun slurping his ramyeon.
I love me some Kim Hae Suk. “From what I saw, you’re good enough to teach some kids” LOLZ
I saw some comments earlier about Han Hye Jin , but I actually like her. Her performance is subtle but I could feel her pain. Love her story and her recovery
“Gentle and steady hyeong geon”. “SF like sci-fi”. That last camping scene was so very good.
I am not sure what Gi-Yeong will need defending against. Poor baby.
I am so sad we only have one more weekend left of this show. I really enjoyed it

I think He took her back mostly for his mother and the child. His mother and him have gotten attached to the child like their own. And they didn’t want to lose the child. And also he thinks he can provide best for the child.
If it happens again he might let her go, if it’s after his moms passing.

Sure that makes sense. That baby needs stability. However, it would worry me that if she tries her tricks again, it might not be as clear cut as this time and all of them may be affected b

Ok I didn’t explain myself properly. This time it was clear he was innocent so it ended well. Next time it may not be as clear and it may affect them all
