Premiere Watch: You Are My Spring
by missvictrix
Time slot: Monday & Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Romance
Episode count: 16
Tonal whiplash, anyone? Initially described as a romance, this drama’s promo materials have been all over the place, and I’m left with the feeling that this drama might be darker and deeper than we originally thought. While I can’t guarantee the tone, I think it’s safe to say we are getting ye olde love triangle, with our heroine/concierge Seo Hyun-jin, and the two men (Kim Dong-wook and Yoon Park) that enter her life. There’s much to do in the promo material about how each of these characters is wounded and has this “heart of a child” aspect to them. Are we going for a more literal Thirty But Seventeen heart of a child, or something more like what we saw in Come Here and Hug Me, where childhood traumas kept characters from moving on emotionally? Either way, I’m here to find out.

Actually this is a mix label genre wise as Romance, Drama, Fantasy & Melodrama...
Still curious about the Fantasy element...
It involves a crime as well...

"People with a childish state of mind now live as adults. They happen to live in a building where a murder takes place.
When she was a child, Kang Da-Jung (Seo Hyun-Jin) stayed at an inn in Gangneung for a short time, but she considers that inn as a home of her heart. Now, she works as a hotel concierge manager. She moves to the Gugu Building. There, she gets involved in a murder case and with her neighbor Joo Young-Do (Kim Dong-Wook). He lives downstairs from her.
Kang Da-Jung problem is that she takes after her mother’s poor choice of men and dates men who are terrible like her father."
To help u make a bit more of an idea what's about based on the synopsis

The premier was intriguing - it'll keep me around for at least tomorrow's episode. It's darker than I expected, but so far it feels a little different from standard fare, like it could potentially have some good layers to peel back. Here's hoping!

I might be in the minority here but I enjoyed the premiere. The first two episodes kept me intrigued enough to want more. I thought there were some similar vibes to IOTNBO, perhaps it's the murder mystery and dark fairytale plot. I haven't seen much of KDW before this but so far I'm liking both leads and their performances. Within the first 2 episodes I find myself invested enough about the characters to want to tune in next week. I think with a different actress it might not be the case but it's SHJ. She has a knack for playing ordinary, cliche characters with so much heart and earnesty and I always find myself invested in her portrayal. Please continue with the recaps even as weecap or open thread 🙏.

I really liked the premiere. This felt refreshingly different than other k-dramas. I usually push myself through a first episode, knowing that I will get invested once the characters are set up. However the interesting shots were fascinating as well as trying to piece together what had happened. I love a murder mystery and am excited to watch our characters progress.
