Jang Seung-jo confirms JTBC drama Chocolate with Ha Ji-won, Yoon Kye-sang

Casting has been confirmed for actor Jang Seung-jo (Boyfriend), who will be joining Ha Ji-won (Hospital Ship) and Yoon Kye-sang (The Good Wife) on JTBC melodrama Chocolate.

The story is thoughtful romance about a cold-hearted neurologist named Lee Kang (played by Yoon Kye-sang) who meets a hot-headed chef named Moon Cha-young (played by Ha Ji-won). Although the details of their initial meeting are unclear, the two characters cross paths at a hospice where they form a stronger bond through food and cooking. And as their connection deepens, they start to grow as individuals and help each other heal old emotional wounds.

Jang Seung-jo will be the second male lead, a neurologist named Lee Joon who is both an old childhood friend and current work colleauge of Yoon Kye-sang. His character is incredibly proud, highly competitive, and loathe to lose anything–regardless of the stakes. Though he and Yoon Kye-sang go way back, their memories of each other are not happy ones as the two had a strained relationship. Thus, when they meet again as adults, Jang Seung-jo’s competitive nature is stirred up.

On the creative team, PD Lee Hyung-min (Strong Woman Do Bong-soon) and writer Lee Kyung-hee (Uncontrollably Fond) will be working together for the third time to produce JTBC’s new melodrama Chocolate. Their past projects were notably I’m Sorry, I Love You and Sang-doo, Let’s Go to School.

JTBC’s Chocolate is currently set to air towards the end of this year. It will be taking over the Friday-Saturday timeslot after My Country, which is scheduled to premiere in the autumn.

I've mixed feelings. I enjoyed I'm Sorry I Love You but simply disliked Uncontrollably Fond.

I love Yoon Kye Sang and Ha Ji Won but HJW doesn't have a good eye for projects (since the few last years at least).

I like shows involving cooking but I'm sick of medical dramas.

I guess I will still check out the premiere.

I'm in for Jang Seung Jo. I just love all of him. I don't think I've ever finished a Ha Ji Won drama. As for Yoon Kye Sang, I only liked him in the good wife. The writer is meh, so this should be interesting.

I'm also in for Jang Seung Jo and HAJIWON. I loved Hwang Jinyi and Empress Ki and Money Flower

Even though that's not his picture, I got a little excited for a minute because I read "...Jo Seung Woo joins..." -- but alas, 'tis not it :(

Jang Seungjo made Encounter bearable (barely) and he was the reason I watched the fantastic, completely bonkers, perfect Money Flower while Encounter was running, to see more of him. In both shows he managed to make me root for him, somehow making unlikable characters likable and complex. I don't mind him being a second lead again: a good second lead makes a story much more interesting.

Money Flower - the biggest surprise of the last year for me (and tough live watching).

My favourite love line was between Pil Joo and Boo Cheon (Jang Hyuk and Jang Seungjo).

In-between Money Flower and Encounter, he was in Familiar Wife. He played a good guy that was doomed not to get the girl. He is capable of taking command of scenes from the main leads. btw- I also was bonkers for Money Flower. The only Jang Hyuk drama that I have finished(he was brilliant in it!). The 8.4 score on Mydramalist is a travesty.

Hm... I really like all the leads so far, but I haven't been interested in the writer's more recent works. I guess I'll watch for the pretty.

it might be old hate but i hate swdbs and will continue to do so until i perish probably. that being said, it was sort-of promising and i think the two leads had amazing chemistry--hopefully they will here! it sounds really interesting but i am coming off of how much i truly love just between lovers... and that was the last melo i saw on jtbc! it could be really beautiful if done right

Why is she a chef and not chocolatier?
Anyway, me too, awaits the day when Jang Seung-jo headlines a drama, preferably a good rom-com. He's awesome.

I don't know Yoon Kye-sang and I don't like Ha Ji won, so I won't be watching. But I still have a complain. Why on Earth Jang Seung-jo is second lead again??? He deserves better!!!

Second lead again? Well, he will probably do quite well. Not that I hate them, but sometimes I find myself distracted by his ears...doesn't he have the most unusual ears?

"I'm Sorry I Love You" is a classic but I actually did not like "Uncontrollably Fond".

This sounds like a good plot premise, although we need to hope that a show set in a hospice will not be overshadowed by the morbid background.

I love this actor. I continue to await the day he's lead. He's taken the spotlight in almost everything I've seen him in and ugh drama gods, upgrade him to lead status already please and thank you *continues prayer circle*

I don't have strong feelings about the cast, but I didn't care much for Uncontrollably Fond, and while I do love me some SWDBS, that is all and only because of the chemistry between PBY and PHS. I can't give the PD any credit for the show's charm, to be honest. I'll wait and see how beanies like this one, but I expect I'll skip it.
