You that feeling when you found out your first love is getting married? There's this sense of bittersweet feeling you have no right to feel but you do? Even though you're happy for that person because for one thing, you're not involved with each other? That's how I felt when I found out Eric Mun's getting married on July 1st.

Hey guys! Wow, this is the first time I've been awake long enough to post something on Open Thread. I'm so excited... except I have nothing to say since I'm on a drama hiatus right now while studying for exams :( Hopefully, everyone else is having fun and drowning in dramas. Have a good weekend!

Hello, how are you? Yesterday I taught monoprinting to a japanese family and felt so strange - like, here I am, estonian girl trying to teach a fish to swim, people from the land that has such a rich ukyo-e printing tradition. am I insane? but they enjoyed it a lot, the little kid thanked me in english and it was aww! this is why I learned to be an art teacher.

the weather is so terrible, last weekend we planted radishes, parsnips and pak choi in snowfall and the stuff in my window boxes doesnt seem to grow any at all.

watching:
Chicago typewriter - so eccentric and kick-ass, I just love the strange vibe, Yoo Ah In´s acting, he is so dedicated but what I like most is that the drama has attitude, like it is kicking a fire hydrant and it surrenders. some kind of inexplicable pride.

Radiant office: so slow, but nothing is unecessary. All the characters still get development. everyone takes steps forward slowly but firmly. I especially like Ji Na. I want to cheer her up with something, for putting up with jerk Yoon Jae and the ungrateful work. If I were her, I would have exploded in rage already long ago, I dont have such self-control. I am only up to ep 11, hope she and Ki Taek get back together. The girl seems to be on the verge of a breakdown if she doesnt have someones´back to lean on. Ho Won has Woo Jin to confide in. We see people who are there for each other, and then we see some egotripping chiefs. this ep made a lot of good points that anyone can take along to life.

Rewatching Shopping King Louie just because. After Louie, we´ve seen a surge of sweetie boyfriends. SWDBS & WLFKBJ. Min Hyuk did remind me of Louie in a lot of ways in being so extra all the time and so supportive and warm, but he was more reserved about his state of mind in the beginning. Louie was more matter-of-fact what he was feeling, just said it without hesitation. but their common point is, both were brought up without the warmth and care of their parents, but grew a very big an generous heart despite that. It is like the theme of past season has been "People who bring themselves up well" vs psychopaths, who turn evil instead.

do dramas portray the "Millennials" now? We see different types of characters lately. They have become a bit more hipster, more independent, having learned to rely on their own survival skills, a bit more off-beat and riding a different frequency than the previous generation of characters. Young creative professionals? the new human? How to put it.

Hello everyone! I have been in such a drama rut since January, unable to concentrate on any new shows evee since I watched NIRVANA IN FIRE.

That show completely broke my heart and tok my breath away. I loved almost everything, the sprawling cast of characters, the interesting plotlines, the superb acting, and that heartbreaking (b)romance between the two male leads, Lin Shu and Jingyan. (I thought Goblin and Moonlight Drawn by the Clouds had the ultimate BroTP, oh no, NIF beat everyone to it).

I loved all the performances, my favourites were Jingyan by Wang Kai (who truly sold my BroTP) and Consort Jing by Liu Min Tao (non-scheming, perceptive with a hint a steel) and Fei Liu by Wu Lei (he's deadly and adorable-how did he manage to pull that off? Haha). And my OTP is Jingyan/ Lin Shu |Mei Changsu forever.

I'm on my third watch right now, after having gone through the entire fanfiction archive on archiveofourown, looking at pictures and gifs on tumblr and fanmade MV's. The last show that left me so devastated was Moonlight srawn by the Clouds.

So I would love to commisserate about this show with some kindred souls here, and if you have any cool links, recommendations, or opinions to share, I'd love to hear them. :D

OT Week 11. What a lovely, dark, and stormy evening and day today. Between watching Master’s Sun into the morning, and my dog, Ally, hyperventilating because of the thunder and lightning, rest was fleeting. However, I don’t regret a minute of it. There’s something satisfying watching a ghost story with the claps of thunder and flashes of lightning in the background—like surround sound. Kdramas and movies have definitely eased my fears of horror stories just a bit!

So, after 15 episodes of Master’s Sun, I am officially a Hong Sisters fan. This is the second drama in which I’ve seen Kim Yoo Ri, Hong Hyo Jin, and Seo In Guk, but my first introduction to So Ji Sub. The acting is commendable by everyone in the main cast and the story, dialogue and pacing are all definitely on point. However, no one does facial expressions like Gong Yoo, no one…and if someone would like to offer up another actor that does, please do, I’d watch them. It’s been fun reading the recaps and commenters from 4 years ago. Some of you are still here! (I’m looking at you @redfox, who I hope has seen some of Star Trek because, yes, So Ji Sub is basically Spock in his grey and mustard sweaters—as logical and unemotional as he can be.)

Otherwise, I finished Legion (FX, cable) this week as well. So good, imaginative, amazing special effects and cinematography, if not a little freaky, but very engaging.

Last weekend was a family weekend and we saw my husband’s parents and siblings’ families for Easter. On the way down there, he mentions…

Husband: I never noticed how big my eyes are.

Me: *WHAAAT? Why are we talking about this?* Well, you don’t have a monolid, so they would appear bigger.

Husband: I could pass for a Korean celebrity, don’t you think?

Me: *Really amused by this point since I dreamt a couple week ago that he was Yeo Jin Goo* I’m sure you could…let me go find one that’s your doppleganger…

*Later that evening…*

Me to sister in law (who is also a kdrama fan): My husband thinks he looks like a Korean actor, we need to find his brother from a Korean mother.

Sis In Law: *not even 30 seconds later* I found him !…
Me: *Looking at her Iphone* Who is that? He’s too pale, but he looks a lot like the husband.

Sis In Law: *Kim Hyun Joong* He was in Boys Over Flowers and Playful Kiss, and is embroiled in scandals.

Me: Intrigued. *Goes to look up Kim Hyun Joong*

Later that weekend:

Me: Look at these pictures, kids. Does your dad look like this guy? *shows kids a side by side of husband 13 years ago and KHJ*

Daughter: *studying picture* They look the same. Are you sure one of these is dad???

Me: *HAHAHAHA.* Yes, honey, one of them is dad before we had either of you. *Still giggling*

Husband: See, I told you I could pass for an actor.
Me: Maybe 13 years ago…

Moral of the Story: All Asians look the same.

2nd Moral: If you want an honest opinion, ask an 8 year old.

3rd Moral:...

I've readily scanned the Rebel recaps on this site, but without much interest. However, I was so bored the other day I thought I might as well watch a couple of clips from the broadcasting channel's youtube page .................................... and was sucked down the rabbit hole.

First, I just clicked on every early scene with Garyung and Hong Gil Dong because Chae Soo Bin is adorable, and that had me squealing of course. But then I had to watch the Avengers slash Seven Dwarves crew do their thing because c'mon, bromance. After that, it only seemed natural to check out Gil Dong's character trajectory and how he started becoming the people's man. And on and on it went. Basically, I marathoned the drama a couple times over in the past week.

As a result, I am terribly impatient and so so excited/scared for what's to come. Historical dramas really do raise the stakes. The angst is so good, but only if Gildong and Garyung have their happily ever after!!! Writers, you can't have him lose his wife to gain his siblings, you hear me!!!

On top of studying, I'm planning two trips in Germany the first one for a month and the second one for a year. I feel like my head will explode !!
Question : What drama do you watch for releasing stress ?
I'm enjoying every bit of Chicago typewriter and it was a long time since I enjoyed a drama this much ! I'm more invested in the family in Father is Strange than in any other family dramas. I want Ryu Soo Young's character's parents to communicate. I hope being in contact with the other family will change them for the better.

Hello everyone. Right now I'm pumped about Man x Man! I have my eyes on the clock and my bags all ready and packed to go. Nothing sucks like being at work on the day Park Hae Jin returns to the screen *sigh*. I'm so distracted and I'm sure it's reflecting in my work. Anyone have any suggestions I can make just in case my boss comes in on Monday to screech about me making a typo on a radio commercial I'm meant to write?

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today!

Suddenly, the new cycle of animated ads, the ones that appear above "Recent Posts", are causing havoc with my laptop! Especially the "I Wish You A Merry Christmas" one. Either the site page or my laptop freezes or I can't click on my "back" button. Is this happening to anyone else??

Watched this week:

Defendant - Finally finished this! ....... But left wondering exactly why Jung-woo lost his memory, other than attributing it to the shock of the events.

Perfect Wife - Oh my goodness, when Lee Eun-hee walked in on Jae-book and Jung-hee's family dinner, when she let herself in ..... and just stood there!! How creepy was that?

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon - Half-way through ep 13.

Mystery Queen - I'm kind of curious how Seol-ok and her prosecutor husband ended up together, because even though they've had limited time onscreen together to make a real evaluation at this point, they seem like such a mismatch.

That's all for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

Currently watching Defendant, which is entertaining but a bit over the top. Not that that's ever a bad thing in a K-Drama. Can somebody please explain to me how we're only 4 months post-mortem and Joeng Woo has already been tried, convicted, sentenced, and is now about to start his second trial? Is this just for dramatic effect or am I missing some nuance in Korean criminal procedure that provides for a quicky "first" trial and then a real trial later on?

What a week! Finals officially begin today, but I've already taken two of mine (I think it should be illegal for the University to offer a final on an assigned "study" day, simply because they ran out of appointments during the rest of the week). It's been an adventurous first two, but I think the score is still safely Cozybooks-2, Finals-0, Dramas-15+alpha. I'm hoping to finish all of my remaining tests either today or tomorrow... so I'll have a clear schedule next week to relax and watch dramas! Haha, Happy weekend, Beanies!

First time commenting on DB! I've been a looonggg time silent reader on this site but finally decided to jump in the community with the changes. I told myself repeatedly that I didn't need to delve more into the kdrama world..Soompi was enough..etc etc but meh you can never get too much.

Re:kdramas. I'm not watching any currently airing ones but Tunnel is really tempting me. I've only heard good things about it so far. I am however watching Smile You....and Jung Kyung Ho!!! ??? Yes I'll watch 45 episodes for you.

Happy Friday! Its summer here but its been raining everyday. Still very hot tho. Anyways, its been a long time since I last caught an OT and i mostly marathoned stuff this week hence quite the long post hehe :)

Introverted Boss - I almost passed on this drama and I almost dropped it a few times but Im glad I stayed. Its messy and uneven. And tbh there were plenty of things that annoyed me. The 'horror' scenes, exaggeration of introverts and extroverts, annoying characters, etc. My love for YWJ and Hwanki kept me on. But the drama grew on me and gave me fuzzies.

I have a soft spot for Park Hye-soo(AOY!) so I couldnt hate her tho i found it hard to understand her char(esp in the early eps). Her characrer and acting improves but shes still greeeen. Im just disappointed the show fastforwarded on her development, trying to make her likeable quickly to salvage the ratings. On the other hand, Yeon Woo-jin did mighty fine with Hwan-ki. Its just hard not to feel for him. I just love how he grows, slowly but steadily. I also like how the show didnt give him a lobotomy. The 'dont change' scene totally won me over. I liked the otp's relationship though I do have a problem with how they got together. How their relationship progressed didnt feel very natural but I like how supportive and understanding they became of each other.

I also like how they allowed the supporting chars to shine. The Silent Monster team that was tasked to change Hwanki instead grew because of hwan ki. Han Chae-ah as the sister was so wonderful, i almost wished she was the lead. And Jang Hee-jin was lovely as the snarky, witty, awesome first love.

Its also nice to see a workplace romcom that actually integrates the office part into the story(and it did well imo). The PR company isnt just a setting for the leads' romance(yay for that!).

Overall, the drama felt like Hwan-ki. It looks scary at first(not so well received, low ratings, rewrite). It struggles to get the words out at first and stutters. But you realize that its actually very warm and thoughtful.

Tomorrow With You - I think I had way too high expectations for this one. I really like fantasy romcoms and time travel. I also like the cast esp the leads. But I had trouble connecting with the characters and I just wasnt invested in the drama. I think the otp is cute. But Im just not with them and I dont care(?) that much for them. And I really love Lee Je hoon but I just cant grasp So Joon as a character. He doesnt move me, I cant feel for him so I cant fully get behind him

I even find the side characters more interesting - Ki-doong(me loves), Se-young, Gun-sook, Marin's dad. I also love Marin and Gun sook and Sori and their interactions lol.

For a drama with a main conflict that puts lives and deaths on the line, the stakes dont feel high(to me). TWY is nowhere near bad. It reminds me of Savvy. It was cute and well-made(imo) but I feel only feel hollow inside after watching...

The only thing I’ve watched this week is My Secret Romance. It definitely has the same low key vibe like the PD’s previous work, aka the gem that is Something About 1%. Likewise, it is very mundane and has the vibe of an early 2000s drama. Others might see it as a problem but I do think there is beauty with simplicity; the dramas I watch do not always have to be groundbreaking. The first episode has somehow frustrated me but I. am. hooked, lol.

Also, has someone watched the trailer of Ode to Joy 2? My heart wAAAAAH

Hello Beanies! I nearly missed OT again this week because it's right at the bottom. Still not 100% used to the new site yet even though the whole thing fan wall and notifications is terribly addictive.

Must spread the word that Diet Sodas are the New Evil- they cause 3x the risk of stroke and dementia in a new study recently released. ? If you want sweetness- avoid artificial sweeteners and watch some cute OTP clips instead. ?

My Boy's new favourite phase is "Wait for me, I want to go too!" and it's the most adorable thing. I can imagine it's going to get annoying real quick but for now I shall relish it till he becomes a prickly teenager and wants nothing to do with me. ?

My current dramas are only Chicago Typewriter and Liar and his Lover. And I'm adoring both for completely different reasons.

I'm doing a consolidation of all the literary references I've come across for Chicago Typewriter because I'm constantly amazed at just how much hidden detail is within the story. And as a self confessed literature and arts simpleton, this really is very fascinating and a total eye opener. Please do contribute if you have thoughts- im sure there are many literature buffs and bibliophiles here almost the drama addicts. ? I'm adding more to it tonight hopefully! Finally have some time to myself.

Also thinking of watching Queen of the Ring for Kim Seul Gi- anyone watched it? Is it good?

Hope everyone has a good week ahead!

Hellooooo beanies! Greetings from Busan where I'll spend the weekend.
Everyday I come to love Korea more and more. It's such a great country. Safe and comfortable, the people are lovely, especially when you know a word or two in Korean. The food is great, too. And the alcohol - loved makgeolli!
Oh, and a few words on couple culture. They sure know how to date. And the guys are so attentive to their partners - fixing their hair, etc. Very touching to watch. But overall they're not very touchy-feely, making all those frustrating moments of awkward goodbyes/hellos in dramas pretty true to life.
Anyways, I'll be in Korea for two more weeks, so if anyone's interested in anything, just ask. Or share your thoughts!

Hi Everyone and Happy OT!

I've always had a thing for emojis ? because they help to define the mood of a text that might otherwise sound blunt ? or sharp (lol!) depending on how one looks at it. ? ? ❤ ? ? So I've been collecting them (thanks to other kind Beanies who left them), and I notice that some of us do like to add some ascii pics to our comments. ✒ ✏

So I thought, why not let you all know that you can help yourself to my collection ? . Just go to my fan wall and open up the comments, where I've saved them. You'll find the ones I like. ? ? ? I know that there are lots more emojis, and I can add them too, but for now, feel free to go and copy them to add them to your posts. ?

Hello Beanies! I was sick for a few days so I was able to watch Chief Kim and was it good? No, it was DAEBAK! D to O! I thank the beanies who recommended me to watch it!

I'm still having thoughts of whether to watch Tunnel or Whisper. Because I'm saving the serious dramas for Circle and Ruler.

I cannot believe that April is almost ending. I still have too many dramas to finish and start watching.

Happy Friday, y'all! It has been a long, hard week, but I have the whole weekend off and I stopped by the local Korean market this morning, and bought not only ingredients for bulgogi, but also some yummy dumplings and pre-made side dishes (fish cake, radish kimchi, pickled veggies, seaweed salad), so I am going to have a delicious supper for the family tonight. :)

What I'm watching this week:
Perfect Wife: Aw, Jae-bok & Bong-gu's sweet friendship is the best thing about this show. So much happier than watching Jung-hee delude himself about how he can use his psycho stalker to enrich himself without anyone getting hurt. Show, I swear, if you make Jae-bok go back to that sorry sack of poop, I will - well, let's be honest, all I can do is swear loudly, but there will be plenty of swearing.

Mystery Queen: I love this show so much that I can't wait for subs, so even though I know who the murderer is, I still am not entirely sure what's going on. Guess I should watch the fully-subbed version.

Tunnel: I don't know why I find it disappointing that the 1988 Park Kwang-ho wasn't the 1960-something Park's son. I had a whole narrative about that built up in my head, but alas - I was wrong. I'm glad they went back to the creepy serial-killer-in-training student; that was too good a thread to let go. But wow, Park Kwang-ho is just not really good about keeping secrets.

Library Shenanigans:
I hurried Bad Guys through processing & went to put it on the shelf, but lo, and behold, it already had three holds on it! :happy circulation dance:: Next? I dunno. I'll have to see what I can find. :)

Hi beanies! Hope you all had a good week. Wish you all a wonderful weekend! :)

So, I made this decision two weeks back without thinking things through and it ended up being bad and I am still dealing with the consequences. I am not physically hurt or harmed due to this decision but it has given me a lot of mental stress. Like ever since that, I keep reviewing every single little decision I make and end up making myself go crazy. I totally want to just accept it, learn from it and move on. But, I find myself not being able to let go of it. All this has made me realize how being an adult sucks. :P I was more happy when my parents took care of things. I also realize that this is all just the start and I have so much more to go in becoming an adult. I already talked about this enough with my family and as I mentioned above, I am still not able to get over it and so sharing it here.

Being a drama addict, this has also made me want to watch more adult dramas. Currently I am watching the liar and his lover and misaeng (yes! I am already watching an adult drama which gives me some solace to see that corporate life all around the world is somewhat similar). But I am not sure whether learning from dramas is wise, lol. The drama I have picked out now is the woman who still wants to marry. One, its a female centric drama. Two, its about them wading through their adult lives. Is there any other dramas of this sort? But, I am not sure if I will able to finish it soon considering I want to check out all the dramas coming out in may.

Also, for people who are interested in cooking korean food, there is this youtube channel I found yesterday called maangchi. A cute, sweet korean lady cooks and its very easy to follow. The videos are a lot of fun to watch too. I have decided to prepare her omurice ( the one lee he joon will be eating in signal) tomorrow. Because its the only one where I could get all the ingredients and it seemed doable for a beginner cook like me. I am basically beginner in everything adult related. ;)
P.S: Sorry for the long post.

Hi Beanies! Happy Friday!
My drama rut continues. The only show I've followed to the end is Strong woman but now that is done. I'm not sure what to watch next. I've seen a lot of beanies rave about Chief Kim. I think I dropped it after 3 or 4 episodes so I maybe it is time to pick it back up? The best thing about the rut is that I have been watching more US shows. I finished all 6 seasons of Game of Thrones and it was AMAZING! I don't think I have ever watched anything like it. My only critique is that they went overboard with some of the violent and risque scenes. Per the recommendation of some beanies, I watched "this is us". Maybe my heart is dead, but I didn't find it nearly as emotional as people said it would be. It was a good show though and I will probably watch season 2.I've also been watching attack on titan. Season 2 is now out. I decided to borrow the books from my local library cause I can't wait for the show lol. So many questions!!! If anyone has any recommendations for J-dramas, please feel free to share! Also, what's good on Viki? What are y'all using your passes to see?

For almost a year now I've been watching K-Dramas almost exclusively and I really needed a break from them. So I started back watching western shows like Billions which is absolutely fantastic. I've been really missing that down to earth chutzpah--the proper adjective eludes me. The I started watching the Japanese drama Midnight Diner which I found absolutely refreshing. It tackled some "controversial" social issues really interesting ways. Now I've landed on the Chinese drama Across the Ocean to See You and I'm almost falling in love. I'm really loving the male lead. I also think I'm developing a bias for the friends become lovers trope. It really helps with character development and you don't feel to cheated that it sometimes takes too long for the couple to get together because they have already spent so much time together and usually understand each other. I'm also hoping that it doesn't have the usual high low high K-drama formula of getting together, splitting up, getting tother. That is getting really old and frustrating. I'm on episode 20 so I'm hoping for some "action soon"--no spoilers please. lol. Oh, and Zhu Ya Wen is awesome.

After @Hye Mi's encouragement last week, I finally succeeded in watching Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms without letting the CGI get to me. I still roll my eyes or giggle whenever some horrendous CG creature pops up or the faker than fake golden lotus.
It's actually not that difficult because the men are so gorgeous!

Forget about Hwarang, the beauty here is of another level. Also, this drama and I think C dramas in general have better manes of glory. I used to think Orlando Bloom as Legolas of LOTR looked very much a character in a fantasy. It's the same for the men in Ten Miles. They look celestial indeed, even the Prince of Ghost Realm looks strangely heavenly.
I'm at episode 3 so I can speak only the superficial stuff ?

I was sitting at my computer editing, twirling my hair, popping a few Cadbury chocolate eggs into my mouth, and wondering what I should watch as a reward after I finished working. I was caught up on Chicago Typewriter, Liar Lover, My Father is Strange-and recapped this week's episodes, finished Strong Woman. and watched the k-entertainment episodes of Radio Star, Hello Counselor, LoJ, 1N2D, I Can See Your Voice, The New E News, and I Live Alone, and needed a k-pick-me-up. Soooo - I decided to rewatch Moon Lovers! That first episode swoop - gah! Does it every time. And what a lineup of princes, and IU is pretty cute, too. Feeling refreshed!

An awful thing happened to me.

So I'm not big on either Kim So Hyun or Yoo Seung Ho (but I like them well enough to hope them success in their careers because y'know #stantalent) and sageuks are good if done right but I was only mildly interested in that upcoming Ruler Mask drama (can't even remember the correct name).

Somehow my brain farted and I had a dream yesterday night. In my dream while waiting for the Ruler Mask drama to premiere I checked out the previous drama that KSH and YSH did together as main otp too (I know its not real, alternate reality yea) which was a modern day romcom/melo in which chaebol YSH got lost in the snowy mountains (beautiful cinematography) and lovely mountain girl KSH helped him. The damn drama was so sweet and cute and had me fangirling so hard. Right before they kissed I woke up. And realized I would never ever have the chance to finish that drama.

So yea I am infinitely screwed. Also I ship KSH and YSH so much now.

The main couple is adorable and the show is funny and easy to watch. The doctor and the girl-I-don't-like's sister are adorable also. I am currently watching episode 36 and with 8 episodes to go.

See y'all next week.

Still enjoying Queen of Mystery the most, I do agree that the case dragged on a bit too long but it's still a fun watch. This reminds me of Detective Conan and like the comic that has been going for so long already (a decade or more?), I really don't mind watching this on and on for more than 16 episodes.

Also rewatching Pasta and City Hunter because nothing else interests me at the moment.

I forgot there's a character that is worse than Kim Tan, the chef is a huge ahole (and only saved by Lee Sun Gyun's charisma) and Gong Hyo Jin's character must be a masochist for liking him. I am so glad in recent years we have started to see the diminishing of jerk male lead, candy doormat female lead, and bithcy second female lead who lives only for one sided love.

I watched City Hunter so long ago that I already forgot most of the story so it's a nice re-marathon. I remember being so captivated by Lee Min Ho the first time I watched this but this second time around, I noticed that the ahjussi is quite smokin with his James Bond's suits, hair, and big watch (in contrast to LMH's blazer over a singlet - I know it was probably trendy back then). I guess I am just getting old don't I?

anyone living in Seattle needs to run outside and enjoy today's SUNNY weather!! we've just come up for air (it's been raining and raining), and they say this sunshine is just for ONE DAY and the rains return...

: [

which means no drama watching until the sun goes down! go outside, get some vitamin D!!!

have a good weekend, everyone -- i'm certain most of you have spring weather to enjoy... so jealous.... *sniff*

It's Friday again!
I just announced at work that I'm quitting, I have a much better job lined up that I'll start in May.

Dramas, I need to finish the Jdoramas that I'm watching like Quartet, and now the new dorama season begun so I'll try and watch a few eps of some shows to see what I like.
Might watch the Shibasaki Kou taiga about a female warlord in feudal Japan (Kou is great at badass roles)
As for Kdrama:
My secret romance, I'm hooked. It's maybe not the most original writing but it's super cute. And I liked how the female character was taking matters into her own hands. You go girl!
Tunnel, loving the bromance and excited to see how they'll make everything come together.
You are too much, I started watching after they changed the actress and I quite like it so far.

On another subject, I wonder how popular is Japanese popculture (movies, manga, literature etc) in SKorea
It seems in one hand all Japanese people in Korean films and dramas are villains (yes I know history and why Japan was terrible) but yet it seems that adaptations from Japanese original works is quite usual. Like now they are adapting Ima, ai ni yukimasu into a Korean film.
I know there was a ban for Japanese products in SKorea until something like the year 2000.

Happy Friday, everyone! My first time commenting on an OT thread :D How's everyone kicking off the weekend? IU dropped her new album today and the tracks are just GORGEOUS and so reflective of her (still evolving) style. The album is currently on repeat in the background and serving as the perfect mellow accompaniment to my weekend. Been a long time fan of hers since her debut with MIA and couldn't have been prouder of her growth and development as an artist and actor since then. Any IU fans here?

Does the new format mean no more Beans of Wisdom? That was my favorite weekly post for laughing and learning from our dramas. And Spill the Beans, too? Totally understand if they were put on hold because of the move, but I'd love to see them back. They would be housed under Extras, right?

Hi Beanies!! This is my 1st official time commenting on the open thread. For years I have been lurker, giggling to myself (which sounds my creepy than it actually is lol)at work reading all the comments but never once left a comment myself. Anyways Today is The 1st Anniversary of Prince's death and boy is it a crappy day that makes me relive that moment last year all over again. If you're a fan of Prince, you understand what I mean by that.

Going to another subject, I'm definitely in a kdrama slump nothing has been making me interested at all except for Tunnel, Perfect wife and Father is strange. Which is Strange lol. I got into kdramas in late 2012 and watching at least 8 dramas each week. For some reason now it's kinda hard to even watch a drama. I tried J-dramas, C, TW, you name it but still waiting for something to draw me in again.

Then again that's how my life has been. Anyone here searching for a opportunity in life but can't seem to move forward because you feel you're receive a opportunity where you are? For example I work in the beauty industry and I'm at job that's not paying me much but I get many opportunities to be close to celebrities (American) and meeting well-known makeup artists, stylists, etc.
But when I think about it I wonder if it's worth it... at the end of the day I need more income. Sigh~
That's end of my stupid rant.

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday.

I recently finished Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms and that was an amazing drama. I had a hard time moving on past it. The story was breathtaking, the romance swoony, the actors did a phenomenal job in it. I keep wanting my mom to watch it so I can gush and gush to her about it. Granted, the CGI and some of the blue screen was horribly done and the timeline was weird and confusing but all of that became unnoticed as the drama went on. This was my first Chinese drama I managed to watch more then a couple episode on and I was blown away.

I've almost finished watching a Taiwanese drama called Bromance (atleast that's the English translation). I am really loving it. I also love how accepting of gay romance and marriage the show is. It is a very refreshingly progressive show, especially compared to kdramas. Even though the romance is between a man and woman, the main guy doesn't know the main girl is a girl. But he loves her despite thinking she is a man, and tells her he loves her for who she is no matter what her gender is. And the kisses! So many delicious kisses! My rewind button has gotten quite the workout as I rewatch those scenes.

I have been in a kdrama slump with nothing really appealing to me lately which is why I've been watching other country dramas. However, 3 dramas I am looking forward to are coming out soon. Man to Man, Suspicious Partner and Ruler: Master of the Mask. Can't wait for May!

It's oddly reassuring to read that so many are in a Kdrama slump right now... I'm not alone then.

I'm not following any Kdramas right now. There's a whole lot of stuff on my backlog like Defendant, Whisper, and all but I just don't feel the urge to get started (I feel the same about my homework lol). BUT, I'm watching the Chinese drama Surgeons right now and I think it's really entertaining.
