Another totally random question. What should I watch between THE DEVIL JUDGE and THE KING’S AFFECTION?

I haven’t seen The King’s Affection but Devil Judge was really good although it was pretty dark and heavy. However, Jisung and Jinyoung are both very handsome so that made it more enjoyable 😍😍😍

You can hardly do more different…

Personally, I dropped The Devil Judge and love The King’s Affection.

But I think it’s more about your mood? TDJ is a dark critic of the modern society (not sure about how critical it was at the end) and TKA is a fusion sageuk with the FL fighting for her life (literally and figuratively).

I know, right? I’m in this rut where I can’t decide what mood I want. I’m getting mixed reviews of The Devil Judge but I want to watch it because of Ji Sung and Jin-young. I’m not a fan of sageuks really but been seeing a lot of great stuff about TKA so I’m like, literally at a crossroads. 😀

      1
      1

So both of them? TKA has many fluffy moments that could balance the dark side of TDJ :p

Out of these two, I only watched Devil Judge. It was interesting. Check it out and see what you like it. 🙂

I dropped TKA since it got nothing interesting to offer except if you are fans of the leads. It is just a typical sageuk..love, politics and even though PEB is a great actress, but I am not really buying her character as a crown prince. It is obviously that she is a girl..her figure, her voice, her face..

While the devil judge, it is interesting for the first half but it seemed i can’t remember the story on the second half..🙃 (or maybe i just watch too many thriller kdramas) but it offers a unique storyline, i think you should try the devil judge first…

Hmmm, thanks for the differing insight. That just makes the decision harder. I’m contemplating Devil Judge first and see about alternating them. 😄

Totally random: I counted the dramas I watched for 2021.. 110 Kdramas and almost 20 Cdramas.

And now, first week of Jan 2022 and I’m 3 completed dramas in.

What am I doing with my life???

Looney! I will always remember Lee Kyu-hyung in PRISON PLAYBOOK even more than HI, BYE MAMA lol.

I super relate to his character in episode 3 of SHALL WE HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE? because that’s how I’d look if there was a cafe near home.

I loved this episode because of how realistic it is. You identify with the cafe owner (or barista in this case) for wondering how you can maximize your revenue per available space but you also understand the feeling of wanting to work or study in a different environment (hence taking up a table and probably an electric socket for a long period).

Towards the end, when they discussed how JK Rowling wrote the Harry Potter series in a cafe, again, it resonated so much with me being a Potterhead. Everything I love is in this episode!

I’ve gotten my first watchlist for the year in some order!

So I’m not a good live watcher because I HATE cliffhangers and sometimes I need time to adjust and remember what happened the last episode.

I’m currently following SNOWDROP but I’m thinking of stopping and waiting for it to finish then binge it.

Current binge: RAINLESS LOVE IN A GODLESS LAND (episode 6 of 13)

I found a list of steamy kdramas so I’ll be watching the following next.

On The Way to the Airport
Secret Affair
Love Affairs in the Afternoon

Possibly alternate with any of the following:

The King’s Affection
Uncle
Our Beloved Summer

I find this show so inspiring if you want to open a cafe.

I know, right! Btw it was so relaxing, coffee everywhere, the Espressos, the beans and grounds, the ambience, everything!
Had stopped watching after 6 eps, will continue though!(once I assign a subject to it😂)

I agree! Even the OST! I love watching this when I’m stressed. 😂

YAY! I’m on episode 3 but taking it slow and enjoying the vibe.

The things we learn from dramas.

In GOBLIN, FL would blow out a candle for her handsome guardian to appear.

In RAINLESS LOVE, FL would drink for the same reason. 😂

Just finished THE SILENT SEA (6/10). I enjoyed the thriller parts when it happened, but sort of drooped in conjunction with the too-slow-paced scenes.

I never thought I’d describe water as disturbing but it really is here. The first time we see the effect of the lunar water on-screen, I wanted to freak out.

I can’t imagine how scared I would be going to the moon, actually crash landing on it, finding a deserted station with dead bodies, and having to go through dark shafts and hallways while feeling like someone else is there following your every movement.

Anyway, I don’t think this is a show I’d really recommend, but it’s still something different from the typical kdrama so it’s still worth a watch. Plus points for it being only 8 episodes long and about 30 mins each.

Side note: the girl Naruto-running was a bit funny. Sorry, I couldn’t help but think that amidst the tension.

It istelling when episodes are short enough yet I still FFW.
Waiting for a parody version. Good material here.

While I try to figure out the sequence of shows I will watch next, I’m spending my nights on movies.

Finished Disney’s RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON (the story is very Moana but think Nepalese maybe?) and Netflix’ DON’T LOOK UP (I wasn’t overly fond of the humor and it kinda dragged, but it does make you think).

Tonight, I’m going back in time to IL MARE.

    I really liked Raya!

I didn’t really like Encanto otherwise… It was beautiful but the story didn’t really touch me.

I liked Raya, too! Encanto is next on the list.

I just watched Raya this past weekend and really liked it! Encanto is also in my list to watch, but waiting for my sister to have some tike to watch it together.

well the humor in DLU is satire so it is not perhaps for everyone. butI enjoyed it since I am old and cynical.

I like the humor better in Death to 2021, also on Netflix.

I ended up asking why is Don’t Look Up not funny like this.

Did anyone else notice that there was barely anyone singing in Raya? 😀

If WORK LATER, DRINK NOW is a show I can get away watching while working, WOULD YOU LIKE A CUP OF COFFEE? is one for after a day’s work. It’s so chill. A latte please, Go-bi!

Is THE SILENT SEA horror? I’m not good with blood, gore, anything super scary so a word of warning would help!

As a benchmark, I’ve watched BEYOND EVIL, FLOWER OF EVIL, TALE OF THE NINE-TAILED. Couldn’t watch SAVE ME, HAPPINESS, HOTEL DEL LUNA.

No not horror! There’s water instead of Blood btw!

Im not sure yet. but it is not very scary. People dying? Not scary. Planet dying? We had it coming. The possibility that Netflix will bring down the quality of kdramas? pretty scared.

No no nothing of that sort! Things aren’t graphic or brutal uk. And when some people are to die they die quickly, so no lots pain or bloody scenes as such! You’ve watched beyond evil and FOE, so go for it! And I told you the disturbing thing here is water! H2O 💧💦🌊

Haha the part where the other crew member spewed out reddish water was grosser.

I’m a scaredy cat but I did finish Hotel Del Luna but could not manage to finish Master’s Sun so that’s my benchmark xD and I was able to finish The Silent Sea just fine.

Even hotel de Luna is gore/bloody?! I think I can still watch it just by looking at IU!

I don’t think it’s gory. There are bloody scenes in flashbacks but it’s the ghosts I’m worried about here. Lol.

2.5 hours until the New Year! At my age, I will be spending this time watching a movie — New Year Blues (Korean, 2021).

1. Park Do-soo gets my vote for Brattiest in 2021. He’s worse than a little girl on a tantrum!

2. His dad gets Worst Dad Award.

3. A moment of silence for Bead Boy as he is called here on DB. Oh, and for his friends too.

The Silent Sea: stream or skip? 🤔

Stream – the eight hours are worth it. Not the best sci-fi by international standard but a courageous K-endeavour that keeps me on the edge through the 2-sitting binge. The ending looks more like a prelude for a S2.

Bae Doona is as always a standout to portray the character she plays and Gong Yoo’s screen presence speaks for his A-lister status.

    2

I’m about halfway through, and i get what’s missing now after reading your comment; it’s not very sci-fi ish. The flair is missing and half the crew doesn’t seem to be a necessary presence. I’d say it’s still worth a watch if you’re a fan or want to see a new effort from k-ent but don’t expect to be impressed by the awesomeness of space travel.

My Sunday afternoon movie was THE PIRATES. I was hyped after seeing the posters for THE PIRATES 2 so I went and downloaded the movie right away. It’s a funny Korean version of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN lol. It came out in 2004 but I think it was done pretty well and it was a personal achievement to be able to recognize a lot of the actors there! Now I can’t wait for the sequel. Arrrr!

P.S. Only legends would know what’s happening here. 😂

Finished USE FOR MY TALENT (Chinese). It was too long for a show that CLEAN WITH PASSION FOR NOW (Korean) did better.

Initially, I enjoyed it better because the ML was cuter (Jasper Liu over Yoon Kyun-sang for me) but in terms of overall acting, the Koreans did it better. The audio edits of Chinese dramas are sometime obvious which is distracting for me. I did enjoy the Chinese OST.

One thing I like about Chinese dramas is that they’re not shy when it comes to kissing and relationships. That’s what I enjoyed more here — more fluffy kissing scenes. But at the end, the romance was just so cringey I wanted it to end.

If you’ve seen CLEAN WITH PASSION FOR NOW, don’t bother with USE FOR MY TALENT. But if you haven’t seen any, I’d suggest going with Chinese first. If you want to just pick one, I’d go with the Korean version. 😅 It’s been a while since I watched it, and while it didn’t leave a great impression, it was still a nice watch.
