I’m enjoying this drama so much!
The main couple could end being one of my favorites in Dramaland.

      I agree ♥

I love how they’re shaping up to be a couple of equals in capabilities and intelligence. I wish I could binge the rest of the show. An episode a day is too slow 😫 (although it does give me something to look forward to).

Even though I’ve only seen 1 drama from each of the leads (Zhang Wan Yi in Lost You Forever and Wang Chu Ran in The Longest Promise), they’ve done enough in the 1 role/drama I’ve seen them in to keep me curious and interested in their other works. This one is definitely on my “To Watch” list

It is definitely worth the watch. I would love to know your thoughts when you do begin watching 🙂

The ending of episode 10 of Are You the One was comedy gold!

    Is that a Cdrama?

Hi @Safeenah! Yes, it is. It is available to watch on Viki.

Thanks. Is it good? Does it have a happy ending? I developed trauma for sad endings due to the Cdrama forbidden love. So I always ask that.

Currently re-watching Tale of the Nine Tailed for one of my podcasts. So happy that my colleague liked the first two episodes (I think Lee Dong-wook helped 😉) and agreed to continue with the show. I had forgotten how spooky and unsettling the first couple of episodes of Tale of the Nine Tailed truly are. Beanies, are there any K-dramas that you are re-watching?

7
6

I’m always rewatching some drama or other. I have just finished The Spies Who Loved Me, and Just Between Lovers. Now I’m debating between Brain Works, or Please Don’t Date Him. Or both.

    3
    1

I used to rewatch A LOT, but I feel like these days there’s too much going on, and that makes it hard to get in the mood for a rewatch.

TOT9T was fun. I think the (3) main leads carry the first half of the show and the secondary characters carry the second half. The found family we get by the end has made me rewatch this show at least twice.

    2
    1

I have been busy catching up with ongoing shows. But my last rewatch was True beauty. I plan to rewatch Tale of the nine tailed as it is finally on Netflix.

My mom is currently watching Meteor Garden (2018) and she started the first episode of Love Between Fairy and Devil. Really hoping she likes LBFAD!

    I love LBFAD❤️

Ahh!! My gateway drama, and then the drama that got me back into C-dramas again! Hope your mom has fun with them! And then you’ll get to have fun talking about the dramas together 🤗

@HopefulRomantic She finished watching Meteor Garden last night. She has put LBFAD on hold but I’m hoping that she’ll pick it back up again.

Is your mom a drama watcher already? If this was her first one, MG does get pretty crazy! 😂 Taking a break before LBFAD is probably good – hopefully she goes back to it!

She has been watching K-dramas for a while now. She recently started watching C-dramas. The Double was the gateway into C-dramas for my mom 🙂

Currently reading this adult fantasy novel. Reading it reminds me of the C-dramas I’ve watched. Beanies, what are you reading?

7

Ooo I read that one too! Yep, it definitely reminded me of xianxia dramas. Unfortunately, I don’t read as much anymore because dramas have been doing a better job of giving me the genres and stories I love 😅👍 But some of my recent favorites from the past few years have been Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim (I LOVE her writing style), Only A Monster by Vanessa Len (surprising and addicting!!), The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh (inspired by Korean folk tales), The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah (djin and a clever thief), and Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett (like Elizabeth Peabody, but with faeries instead of mummies!).

    3
    1

I’m on the final part of the novel. I hope that I enjoy how it ends because that will determine if I read the second in the series.

      3

I have recently started The Grace of Kings, by Ken Liu. Another fantasy series.

I’m reading a Chinese novel in translation! It’s the original novel on which the currently airing drama Are You the One? is based.

I wanted a mindless read in book form (either digital— i.e. Kindle/e-book— or in hard copy) instead of reading another webtoon/manhua, and I randomly came upon this and it gave me just what I wanted, but definitely don’t recommend lol

Now onto searching for the next read! Maybe I should finally start the Before the Coffee Gets Cold series or return to some of the autobiographies that I’ve started but haven’t finished (Simu Liu’s We Were Dreamers & Joanna Gaines’ The Stories We Tell) OR even start delving into the stack of other biographical works I have sitting on my desk. So many great choices! Maybe too many choices 😂

    4

I didn’t like Before the coffee gets cold it isn’t my usual genre and I won’t be reading any more. I did enjoy We were dreamers.

      1

I’ve been forewarned about the writing style of Before the Coffee Gets Cold 😂
I’m about halfway through We Were Dreamers and there have been a couple of spots in the book—wherein I’ve read— that’s made me teary eyed 🥹

I just discovered audiobooks on Spotify but have not had much luck so wonder if it’s something about the narrators rather than the books themselves! I enjoyed The bookshop woman by a Nanako Hanada which I assumed was a novel but is actually a memoir!
I was enjoying Beautiful country: A memoir of an undocumented childhood by Qian Julie Wang until I ran of listening hours so have been left hanging for a month 😞 I am looking forward to finishing that one. It reminds me of Girl in translation by Jean Kwok and The leavers by Lisa Ko with its themes of otherness and extreme poverty.

          3
          5

            1. You just reminded me that there’s audiobooks available on Spotify, which reminds me that I can probably cancel my Audible subscription LOL So thank you for that 💜

            2. Some books, I actually prefer to have it read to me, especially if it’s an autobiographical book and I know that the author narrates it themselves! Maybe that’s why I put the 2 autobiographies I was reading before on hold— it’s because I didn’t have the time nor attention span to continue listening to the audiobooks and follow along with the book. Hopefully in the next month or so I’ll be able to return to it, when it’s less busy for me at work and I have less brain squirrels XD

            2
            0

@bebeswtz listen to one or two Spotify audiobooks first as I think Audible is superior. I love authors reading their own books too. The only time I didn’t appreciate an author reading their own book was because I could hear them take a massive breathe before starting to read EACH paragraph and I could not for the life of me work out why NO ONE in the sound room picked up on it and taught them how to avoid running out of breathe in a less annoying way.
Also we only get 15 hours per month of listening time with Spotify. I am currently appreciating the range of included in subscription books even if they are ones I wouldn’t listen to normally. I also like the always available to relisten option on Audible during the looooong wait before I can batch buy my next 24 books. I usually end up renewing early as I run out quite early each year!

@bebeswtz I am looking into the Spotify audiobook options and you can buy more listening time to use as and when you like but it looks like it’s per book. I think Audible should sponsor me for doing their promotion as they do seem to offer more choices but I guess it is because it is a standalone book app whilst Spotify used wisely is basically giving you free books each month😉 Let me know if you do try Spotify audiobooks.

@reply1988 Have you tried audio books on Graphic Audio? They are full cast with music and effects. I’ve read a few series under Graphic Audio and have really enjoyed them.

I am out of Audible credits until October so relistening to some of my library the most recent was Sweet bean paste by Durian Sukegawa and Pachinko by Min jin Lee.

I enjoyed A Crane Among Wolves by June Hur — a YA sageuk that was good enough to supplant my regular drama-watching. Snowglobe by Soyoung Park, set in a dystopian, frozen Korea, posed some interesting questions about the purpose of dramas (no, really).

    2
    1

I love Jun Hur’s books. I think my favorite is The Red Palace. She is currently working on a Romance duology inspired by Jane Austen. I plan on reading those two book, but I am already wishing for her to write another murder mystery novel.

And have you finished LYF S2??

@bebeswtz It was very good and very funny. I’m currently on episode three. I haven’t finished LYF S2. I’ve put that one on pause for the time being.

      1

I find it odd, because all the promo material (at least, the posters) made it seem like Are You the One? is a serious drama, and then the final trailer before the premiere was released and it was a complete 180– a comedy 😂 I’ve added it to my “To Watch” list!! Zhang Wan Yi is definitely on my radar now because of LYF

Speaking of which— that’s okay! If you feel the want/need to take your time with it, do what you feel is best for you! 😊

I have been waiting for this drama to air (thank you, Viki!) since I knew about it some weeks ago, but as I am currently watching another C-drama on air (You are my secret), I haven’t started it yet. Maybe today I’ll have a look at the first episode.
I liked the trailer, it seemed to have a funny side.

I’m watching it and love it. Up to ep 5. The first ep took a lot of rewinds to figure out what was going on. I was clear enough by ep 3 to realize that part of the storytelling method is keeping the viewer in the dark about a lot of background details 😉

    3
    1

I swear I couldn’t understand anything in the first episode. Now I have watched the second one and there are still lots of loose ends.
I think this way of starting the story and presenting the characters is risky and a challenge for the viewers. Many could drop it alleging “bad script”.
But I really like the main leads. I’m in.

      1
      2

I’m up to ep 9 now and it just keeps getting better. I agree that the start was risky, but once I realized that we’re meant to be confused about what’s going on, I stopped worrying and just let the story unfold. So glad you’re liking it too!

I got a Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibe after watching episode one. I’m currently on episode three.

        1

I watched episode 10 today and parts of it were so funny I was practically in tears. The director is doing such a great job with this, keeping it understated but still highly amusing. ZWY’s facial expression are getting even better with every episode too. There was also, funny enough, a Mr. and Mrs. Smith scene in this episode as well. I think that element is just going to ramp up from here, which I’m really looking forward to. But first… we have to go through the part where she gets her memories back 🤯

I just finished episode five. I love the dynamic between the male and female lead. I love how intelligent she is and how she is not afraid to pursue her goals.

Down the memory lane it is – and what a classics. I love this opening song. It is almost like the total opposite to Meteor Garden – a very dark story but Barbie and Vic could finally act, LOL.

I finished Lost You Forever (first season) this afternoon and I’d like to share some thoughts on the male love interests. I am not going to count Feng Long even though he is supposed to be a contender for Xiao’s affections. He is a good man but he is ultimately better suited to being her friend and confident. Xiao makes it clear time and time again what she is looking for in a romantic partner. She desires a man who will remain faithful to her (no side women) and always put her first above all else. As a child she was abandoned by those who were supposed to care for her. She cannot bear the thought of being abandoned again as an adult. None of the remaining three men: Xiang Liu, Tushan Jing, or Cang Xuan can fulfill these requirements. Tushan Jing was always torn between his love for Xiao and his duty towards his clan. In the end, although I cannot fault him for his decision, he chooses his clan. Xiang Liu is a military advisor and he cannot abandon his duty to the men who serve under him. I believe that he truly loves Xiao but I do not believe that he would abandon his men and his duty to live out the rest of his days with her. Lastly, Cang Xuan. He is a man of great ambitions who is not afraid to utilize people; this includes Xiao, in order to further these ambitions. Lastly, he has been crowned the King of Xiyan. Cang Xuan will always have to place the interests and the needs of the kingdom over Xiao.

An excellent summary of what makes LYF such a compelling (and eminently debatable) watch!

Thank you! ♥ I am debating whether to dive right in to season two or watch another drama and then watch season two.

      1
      2

Hmmm… Part 2 is not as tightly produced as part 1, but it has a number of epic scenes. I also found it much more intense emotionally, if that’s a deciding factor for you.

        2
        1

Intense emotionally is most definitely a deciding factor. I know that I’ll be emotionally wrecked but it will be worth.

I think it’ll help with your enjoyment of Season 2 if you dive right into it. The 1-year break in addition to the off-beat editing of Season 2 stunted my enjoyment of Season 2 juuuuuuuuuust a bit 🤏🏻🤏🏻

Watching Lost You Forever is one of the best drama decisions I’ve made. Currently on episode 33.

    ♥️♥️♥️
How did you even make it through Ep. 30 without so much as a peep on here?? I bawled my eyes out (after bawling my eyes out before only on Ep. 15) 😭😭😭 And now you’re on Ep. 33 where the storm begins to calm again

    2
    1

I really, really, try not to look at spoilers. It is hard for me because I enjoy watching fan made videos of the dramas I’m watching.

      3
      1

That makes sense 😊 I was wondering more about how you didn’t find the need to come on here and write an entire thing waxing emotional poetic about ALL THE THINGS that happened in Ep. 30, because that episode was a lot packed into 45 minutes 😅

        *clutches heart*

But now that I think about it, I don’t recall if even I, myself, came on here to share about that episode after I watched it LOL

        1
        1

I often find it hard to adequately express my thoughts on episodes. I’m probably going to save a large post for when I finish the first season.

          3
          1

Currently watching episode twenty three of Lost You Forever and I have some thoughts on the love interests for the female lead. I really hope that Xiyan Cang Xuan and Xiao Yao retain their brother/sister relationship. I cannot see them as being truly happy if they cross the boundary into a romantic relationship. Also, Xiyan Cang is overly possessive of Xiao Yao and really bothers me. With regards to Tushan Jing, I feel as if his love for Xiao Yao stems from a feeling of gratitude because she saved his life and offered him a home. I like his character and I believe that among the men in her life, he is the one who respects her and her boundaries. I want Tushan Jing to be happy because he has been through a lot. As for Xiang Liu, I truly feel that there is something special between him and Xiao Yao. Or, it could be that I really, really like his character, and I’m prepared to over look his flaws!

      2
      1

oooh this episode was a good one!!
The REAL start to the mechanisms to Cang Xuan’s goals and the displaying of Jing’s resourcefulness and wit that he has and that he’s not naive in his kindness but that his kindness is a choice to those around him that he cares for and loves

        3
        1

I agree, he is very kind. I also agree that he is an intelligent and resourceful individual who is overlooked/underestimated by those around him.

          1
          1

Yes! That’s why I was so happy and excited when we finally got to see more of the resourceful and stern—but still kind— side of him. He’s definitely not the doormat type of kind and definitely not someone who let’s other’s walk all over him, and especially not walk all over his loved ones
