EP 10- we now have crossover of celtic mythology (i first thought pagan but then I googled it because I refuse to use terms brainwashed by Christianity) that states that the curtain b/w two worlds thins on some days like eclipses & halloween, so humans can see ghosts & supernatural beings. But even then there’s a glitch because the human guests can only see ghost hotel staff & not the other guests.
When past manager came to see HDL I understand how she could see MW since she’s an undead human, but ghost staff HOW?! Stupid show keeps contradicting itself & making mistakes 🙄

EP 11 HDL are you fucking kidding me? What msg is this stupid show trying to convey? What absolute fucking nonsense is mago 4 spewing? Mago 1 got GCS involved with HDL & MW, how dare that hypocritic sadistic bitch say that?
Mago 1 dragged the innocent man candy, not the FL.

Their gods sure like playing with humans. A human female that was captain of rebel forces obviously killed a lot of people, but so do other human beings like generals, soldiers, kings, assassins etc. But this woman somehow heard rumours of a place Moon Inn that consoles the souls of the dead & seeked it out, carrying around objects of those she killed so that she could atone.
Now this chick that showed more character than people who lived in such times did, was punished to serve the dead for years. Why? Because she had locked up her heart after losing her loved one & thinking she’d been betrayed by another loved one.
Inserting an innocent man into her life & taunting her about his demise, how is that anything else but sadistic?

What purpose does it serve? So what if she’s holding onto resentment & grudge & doesn’t want to let go? So what if she wants to be obliterated rather than reborn? How is this any different from being depressed? She doesn’t want reincarnation because she’s seen the unfairness of life, & the unfair games after death (RE : Cam girl ghost of room 13).
Instead of consoling her soul, (first of all why isn’t she allowed to die in the 1st place? So many people in the world have done what she did & far worse. Why is she a special peach? The show insinuated that MW tried to run away & cross over to the afterlife but wasn’t able to do anything except be tied down to the tree & hotel… ), the gods are going to manipulate events so that she experiences similar agony again?

MW did bad deeds years ago so all her relations have to suffer for it? This is like Confuciansm on steroids
What a fucked up drama. This reminds me very much of Goblin in its hypocritic standards of morality, twisted godhood & ideology about free will & destiny

Trash. Hot trash.

The fashion & the osts are the only good thing about this show. Everything else from writing, directing, costume (wigs! +Sageuk segment get ups), lighting, is bad. They don’t make proper sense.

I started watching Beautiful World, Wonderful Life , & even though I started it off with zero expectations after coming across a clip on Kocowa YT, I\’m flabbergasted by the change from Ep 8 to 9. Suddenly everything has changed.

From the drama genre to the direction, lighting, camera, sets, cinematography…. Acting, characters everything.
SOME SPOILERS :-
In ep 8 Junhwi receives his brothers letter 1 yr later & in ep 9 the FL is saying its been 7 years that she\’s failed at the police exam. In ep 9 the ML says he\’ll find her, the girl mentioned in the letter. Am I supposed to believe he waited for 10-11 years to start finding the girl? He received a letter dated August 2009, & it\’s 2020 by the end of ep 9. The time line just does not make sense.
It\’s so so unnatural & illogical.

How am I supposed to watch it with so many changes in which half of the major ones don\’t make sense? They\’ve introduced new characters & have had major developments happen offscreen.
God I feel like bemoaning fiercely about the drop in quality from ep 9 onwards.

Now I\’m off to watch Never Twice/No 2nd Chances : a 30 episoder from mbn with Kwak Dong Yeon. I\’m disappointed that the drama with Kim Jae Young that started off so well (on an unexpected note albeit) turned out this way. Fingers crossed that Never twice fares better🤞✊

So For HDL – I’m going to copy paste mostly & elaborate where needed. A drama diary of sorts.

First things first – 5 minutes into episode 1 & already its failing at logic…She’s dressed in joseon garb… Only her stole flies.
The reeds aint swaying, the dust ain’t flying… Only her stole. How freaking poetic 👏 👏 👏
She keeps saying she’ll slice off the chatty halmoni. But not even a scratch. Dammit why is a barbaric gal so anti actual violence?
ll By the middle of ep 3 but it’s already discarded a bulk of logic. Ep 2 had dialogue – “Nothing in HDL can be explained by human logic” & l had my HA😂😆🤣 moment. In the First episode they showed a shot of ML’s father standing in the balcony as if it was part of the real world. In ep 3 they go that the hotel doesn’t exist in the real world.
Plot Holes Galore :-
1) Aforementioned
2)The FL’s an undead human with powers. How? No explanation.
3) The ghosts can enter a painting & it can be turned into a quasi real place for them to get solace in? What even 🙄
4)The ML leaves his hotel day job during the day to run an errand for the FL w/o any repercussions ,How convenient.
5)The ghost can go from being in the state they died to completely normal looking just by wishing alone? How freaking convenient Gu Chan Sung gets dreams of her (that are shot wrong btw, if he is one of the men why would they show things from a neutral perspective? Poor direction for a dream sequence)
6)They wanted to show that the ML can help in the healing process so the female eyeless ghost gets back normal appearance, but then conveniently that part is forgotten for later ghost guests.
The hotel workers are ghosts, & there’s no explanation for the rules of their change of appearance either. From hair to clothes. They’re still spirits since they can possess, so how can they change their clothes, hair etc? (even with the services the hotel offers, HOW?!)
EP 3-4 : Where’s the linear progression in the story? You have a standard format used in mystery shows, of dealing case by case & then the story in the background moves concurrently with that. But here how does our guy go from being a reluctant worker that fears ghosts to being interested in Man Wol? If curiousity about ghosts, how their world works & Man Wol comes first I’d buy it. They leaped too many steps at once.

By ep 4 their mythology is all over the place.
From Korean fantasy to Greek 3 crones of fate. Like what the actual Fuck. This isn’t fusion, it’s just doing making up anything willy nilly. This is beyond poor writing.

The only thing this bad writing explains is why their moon looks so white, big & bright – because it’s all an illusion of a pretty world. But even that is such a cop out.
I have a feeling I’ll be *tut*ting over this gif a lot 😅

Haru Found by Chance aka Extraordinary You

BK continues to be a jerk, self aware or not, even in the shadows.
From ep 5 – aka 9-10 :- 
1)shoves a fellow schoolmate & behaves violently. The 뭘 봐=mwol ba “what are you looking at” was cute when it’s came from KWK in Gogh starry night, here BK’s absolute entitlement is argh.
2) He manhandles EDH even in shadow,even after hearing her cry out it hurts. These are not actions where he’s being puppeteered by the writer, these are his own actions. He’s nothing more than his archetype & that’s the truth.
___ He has flashes of semi decent behaviour (like wrapping tape around Haru’s racket) , but those seem to be for his own benefit than true kindness.

In this episode we have Do Hwa asking the Qs we’ve been asking – Why is EDH the only one different from her personality on stage? Why does DH’s set up not go away? He’s pretty chill off stage, but his like for YJD doesn’t go away.

We also get confirmation that Haru is indeed from a different Manhwa world – ‘Flower’. The recurring theme we all noticed was indeed true. Fairy also showed his villainous colours, I wanted to poke him with a hot object for how he Hurt Haru.

We see the stage scene in Manhwa that was set up to prove that no one was of similar caliber to BK, that he has no one of the same level ; change from having a randomly drawn character & the planned sequence of events to Haru being drawn as Haru & returning the serve. I’m not sure what exactly the changed manhwa scene says, papago wasn’t able to pick up anything. & the manhwa page wasn’t subbed in the drama

Ep 6….#Thaw Me. I will never use that cringey original title. Ew. My pores shudder in cringe if I even think about it.

After 5 episodes, the cringe hasn’t lessened…. But I finally cracked a chuckle at it for the first time.
I’m sure this wasn’t something I was supposed to cackle madly at…. But I always laugh at things I’m not supposed to 🤣😂

The hoobae at GMR’s college…. That super cute guy is her best friend’s (married to her cheat ex) son LMAO.

Oh this is gonna be hilarious 😂😂😂 the combined freak out of the Cutie’s parents will be ⏩ worthy ofc, but maybe just maybe the rant will be funny….. A girl can hope right? 🤔

I….. I think Thaw Me has found its soul in ep 5…. I didn’t fast forward as much & didn’t watch it fully at 2x…🤔
I’m flabbergasted… Did it get better or is it  JCW’s charm that’s working on me?

____ I still think it has problems with just how everyone is acting, reacting…. The family & the victims especially… Also the pseudo science logic & the shady thug/+bigger evil power behind the car crash bit…

But I’m beginning to not hate every second of it…

I’m excited to see the changes in the drama & how it pans out!

Even though its in the vein of insta love 💏…. There’s the undercurrent of sadness & struggle, it tugs at my heartstrings….. I JUST WANT TO SEE ROWOON OKAY?! I’M JUST A SIMPLE FANTASY, I want to see our daddy long legs of sexy sweater-dom.

So like I took these screen shots last Sunday & I still think they’re cute enough that I want to post them

I wrote this long ass comment & I’m gonna copy paste because I want attention. Also it contains edits, but whatever.

I was feeling too drained on Friday to pen down my thoughts, so here they are now on Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung.
MY GRIPES
#1 – Eun Woo’s acting. I think he had his best moments during the plague arc. He also did well in the confrontation in coronation anniversary celebration in last episode. But otherwise eh, I could see him putting in a lot of effort & it showed. I shouldn’t be able to see his struggle & effort to emote. At other times he was acting like FL’s of yesteryears kdramas. Overacting. The soup wasn’t just right. [He’s not even a teddy bear, so can I say that? Blah.]
#2p – Then last couple of episodes it was as if Hae Ryung was written by someone else….
Beacuse had they shown that her encounter with the soraewon woman & seeing her father’s name & writing, &/or eavesdropping on her brothers conversation with that woman jogged her memories, it would have been a bit cliché, but more believable.
The last episode also glossed over some things, & while fitting, things ended too conveniently.
#3 – The crown princess getting divorce – as if being a divorcee daughter of a traitor was no big deal. It’d be different if they showed that the Saeja met her in secret & promised to free her when he found a way, that maybe somehow they portrayed to the world that she helped in bringing her father down, that she had a saintly but pitiable image for the peasant public.
That would make her future possibilities sound brighter even without any love angle.
#4 – They could have shown Historian Min on his work bench in the epilogue scenes instead of the mourning father with sister scene, but then that would have left out the sister & that would have been okay. She’d just be a sad victim of circumstances & a demoted wife. They could have not bothered to try & wrap up her story & it would have been totally fine because as mentioned in #3, they only messed it up instead of cleaning it up.
#5 – The grandma planned for 20 yrs to topple the regime & make Yirim a puppet king, I doubt anything less than his suicide attempt would make her deviate from her plans. I don’t buy that just a talk could change her mind.
Also she was ready to kill Jae kyung – so the orabeoni remaining alive doesn’t make sense unless people pour in petitions for it, or Yirim pleaded for him.
However since she never treated Yirim as more than a chess piece, so even that explanation I can’t totally gel with.
#6 – I feel like if the overall pacing of the story was better, the end could have been wrapped up much better.
It was a little too idealistic & unbelievable for what had been a pretty grounded drama till then.
#7 – The king & his relationship with the dowager was never explained. I find it hard to believe he let YiRim live just like that. What no poison attempts at the dowager? Had they showed us an oedipus complex or that she had something conclusive on the legitimacy of his reign, or maybe was threatening something he held dear I’d understand.
#8 – The Queen & the harem. What I’m supposed to believe the new king didn’t get to producing a spare? They only showed the Queen in the last episode & she looked more like a lowly consort than a queen. Now I’m thinking had they shown us that the the king loved Paeju’s wife & only wanted her for his queen, & by that token he was manipulated into hating his brother & his offspring & into becoming a puppet king I’d buy why he didn’t have an official queen & left Yi Rim alive.
#9 – They never explained YiRim’s dreams – I don’t buy divine intervention, unless he heard stories under a hallucinogen in sleep.
#10 – So YiRim went off to be a traveller. Okay. But if he gave up prince hood & royal rights how did he survive? Did he get compensated by guilt money? No care packages from the grandma huh.
#11 – Remember that boy GHR saved? What happened to him? Could have shown him with the servants in the end scene or maybe as gopher, intern, tea boy something in the Historian office.
#12 – Me thinks before re-establishment of Soraewon the Saeja, now King would rather implement admission of female govt officers using precedent of female historians. His leaning towards technical & medical advancement felt like it came out of nowhere. I’d take his revolutionary idea of social reform as more palpable because of how they showed him previously.
#13 – They first showed Sambo as a happy go lucky but fretful resourceful eunuch that was a fool for his wife. Then later showed us he was in the know all along. So why would he act like a lovestruck fool & act confused about the mysterious actions of his ‘wife’? For whose benefit was he acting in the middle of the night? The maids? Had they shown a giggling pair of maids in that scene previously it’d round off his character & what all happened then.
And so if the writing filled in these gaps, this could have been an easy 9.5 (-0.5 for Eun Woo’s acting) for me; as it is I give it an 7.85-8 (Why? Because I liked it am a bit indecisive about whether I should keep it below 8 to account for the fast forwarding, cringe & bored moments. But then I don’t want to be too harsh & want to give it an 8.5 but I know it doesn’t deserve it according to my feelings £review & now I’m in a dilemma but that’s alright since I don’t have to give final rating like a professional critic & I can just go off & watch some bts footago from astro & what not & maybe I’m going to pick up Six Flying dragons even though FL did get slightly sidelined in the latter half….. & I’m rambling, so I’ll try n pause my rant…. 😅*whew*
That 👆🏼 unexpectedly turned into a big IF paragraph 😆

This is still one of the best period pieces I’ve watched so far (I haven’t seen that many, maybe that’s why 🤷🏻‍♀️)

WHAT SURPRISED ME
#1 – The shady female historian, the Saeja’s love interest went on to do social charity teaching whatever & that her father just supported her. As if a man entrenched in political schemes for years would change suddenly just because of a slight past threat to his daughter & her incident. He’s the kind of guy that would be more likely to finagle a marriage out of the fiasco especially with crown princess out of the way & actual feelings strong & mutual between the ttwo. Honestly speaking I didn’t find any reason why they had to include this side romance story with no future or conclusion when the story could have used that time to fill in the blanks of gripes 1-12instead. Except for causing a conflict in the daewon prince’s marriage situation & leaking info to Councillor Min her track had no particular draw or use.
#2 – The ML & FL didn’t get married even after 3 years & were almost in a live in relationship.
Ha maybe the writer is more courageous than I thought they would be, or I’m more orthodox. I never imagined they’d leave that marriage bit open. I thought they’d subjugate her by the end of the drama, & in the epilogue we’d see her pregnant or travelling with him & recording history around the country ; or maybe Yirim as king finding his feet with her as a Historian, no to queen, saeja dead & historian Min alive or Saeja on throne, Yirim going off & writing novels & taking social responsibility or some official post in remote areas, with GHR as a writer of secret opinion pieces in some local newspaper while still working as historian – groaning about her two jobs but enjoying them at the same time.
The third end scenario I thought was ML & FL as king & queen, finding their footsteps & struggling to wrest control from the dowager & minimise minister’s interference with the show ending like “We started off as rookie historian & rookie novelist but now are rookie deciders (yes I used my made up slang word. My grammar core is 😱 atm) of the future of this country.

The end.

Maybe I put in too much thought into this? 🤔I feel like I could rewrite some of the drama. , make a fan fiction & turn into a perfect piece of gem. It’s like an unpolished diamond in the rough.
PS – I feel like I’m justifying my words & I never want to do that. Ugh I’m conflicted but at least my conflict isn’t manufactured & a poor attempt at red herring like the crown prince’s actions actions*rolls eyes*👀🙄

Still Good, but it could have been amazing.

The next Netflix ven(tor)ture. I’m a sucker for Jung Hae In so I guess I’ll watch it even if its split into seasons, thought I pray to drama gods it isn’t.
This looks like a verry confusing teaser…..I understand nothing at all. Maybe I’m just dumb in the mornings 🤷🏻‍♀️
