I have a question for anyone who watches c-dramas, is it just me or is something off with the voices? I\’ve tried watching A Love so Beautiful and Love o2o and the voices almost seem unnatural? It definitely makes it hard for me to watch them.

1

I don’t watch C-dramas but they’re all dubbed over, right? So that’s probably why.

    4

It’s my understanding a lot of C-dramas dub the voices. It can be very disconcerting.

    3
    0

I noticed this too. In one scenes one person’s voice would be so loud and clear and the other persons would be garbled. I think they dub over some of the voices, i know they do it when non native speakers are acting.

    3
    0

Most, but not all, C-dramas have the actors/actresses voices dubbed over, most of the time with another voice actor’s/actress’ voice, but in some rare cases, it’s dubbed over with the original actor’s/actress’ voice…. I’m not sure of the reason why, but I’ve heard it is so that all the accents of the characters are the same or are more unifying, since China is so big with so many dialects and so many dialectual accents XD

    5
    1

wow, that’s… something. So the face actress/actor could be acting the scene one way while the voice actress/actor’s interpretation could be completely different. No wonder I was getting so thrown off!

      3
      1

Well all the filming is done first, and then when the production is in “post-production” (e.g. edits, photoshopping, adding CGI, adding the ost in the background to scenes) that’s when the dubbing is also done, and in the dubbing booth, clips of what the voice actors are dubbing are actually played to them as they dub, so that they can see the mouth movement of the original actors to match their dubbing speed and the speed of the mouth movements of the actors/actresses to be as accurate as possible…. It’s literally how voice actors for animation films/cartoons do it, too 😁

I noticed it in love o2o movie version, and sometimes it feels weird. Like watching korean actress/actor that act in c-drama and we hear the different voice from their original voice

    2

Yep, it’s the dubbing. Drives me crazy enough that sometimes I watch on mute. It’s close, but it’s just microscopically off enough to trigger my subconscious. Also female characters are often dubbed very high and screechy.
Sometimes TW dramas do it to, but it’s not as bad.

that must’ve been such an uncomfortable position to hold!!! How long did they have to stay there like that???

Oh my god, the Jugglers finale was so cute and fluffy and made me so happy! It has definitely rose to the top of my pure unaltered fluff drama list. Now it’s time to go ruin the sugar high with this week’s episodes of Just Between Lovers…

That’s a great thing to do. Too bad we don’t have Jugglers for the final week of JBL. 😭

    1
    1

But it would be okay because the last 2 episodes of JBL would be rainbows and unicorns, just happiness for everyone…..right? right? right?

      3
      1

Sooo many great things happened on Jugglers, but this was definitely one of my favorite scenes. I just really feel for Bo-Na and I want her to become a better person so she won’t have to feel like she has to do everything by herself and she can rely on others. I wish we got to see more of Kyung-Rye because she’s just so freaking cool… alsosheandbonaaredefinitelydatingandnoonecantellmeotherwise.

So if there\’s drama catnip there has to be the opposite too, right? Something that makes you instantly decide stop watching a drama. What would that be called? Kdrama buzzkill? Does anyone have any drama buzzkills?

Screeching, over the top reactions. I almost dropped Kill Me Heal Me because the female lead was beyond annoying, but powered through with the mute button at the ready because Ji Sung was so phenomenal.

That haapened to me when i first decided to watch it started wid a kiss.. ariel lin 🙁 beyond annoying

I dropped Michevious Kiss even though I liked Kim Hyun Joong (it was back then) because the girl is utterly stupid.

The only version of this drama that I like is the original Japanese version.

Oh i loved it started wid d kiss.. after like some 10 tries
… its the shrieking ariel lin in first 10 min who kept discouraging me..

I watched mischevious kiss before any other drama so i liked it..but jsm is worst kotoko for me.
I literally pledged to never watch anything she is in and them its my first beautiful life happened

I avoided her too, until I saw the movie Twenty. I was surprised to find her decent there. I guess it was the script that made her so unlike-able in Mischievous Kiss

    Overly kind, bordering stupid heroine.

I think I’m going to give into my gigantic case of FOMO and attempt to watch Hwayugi. Hopefully, the FOMO is greater than the fact that I am literally the biggest scaredy cat ever when it comes to horror.

I’m a scaredy cat too! But the horror is not so bad, especially in the later episodes. 🙂

I just finished the first episode and it wasn’t bad at all except those puppets, they were hella creepy.

Haha yes! I hope you enjoy the next episodes – they get more interesting as more episodes pass. 😉

I am getting serious FOMO as well but I just can’t watch another currently airing drama AND still have time to watch Chief Kim.

Maybe I’ll pick it up if the new batch doesn’t interest me, since all 3 of the shows I’m watching either just ended or are ending soon.

What a power move! I can’t believe he showed up in his freaking bathrobe and look at his manspreading! I hope he’s wearing something on underneath that bathrobe 😏🤣😏😂

As my friend would say, “ RUDE!” [insert unimpressed face] lol 😆

What was disturbing is that he arrived fully dressed in a suit & tie and then must have undressed into the bathrobe especially for meeting?

I think I\’ve been able to categorize Min-Kyu\’s fashion sense. It\’s modern meets lonely 19th century Lord wasting away in his large manor house that sits on a desolate English Moor.

My feelings about I’m Not A Robot episodes 25-26 in one gif

3
5

Oh my gosh, the angst! Sometimes it’s pleasurably painful, and other times it makes me want to throttle some sense into the characters. Episode 26 definitely induced me to feel the latter.

    1
    1

I know right! I wanted to smack both of them during that last fight. Thank goodness for Sun-Hye the bearer of Truth and the smacker of Sense.

      2
      1

All I could think of during that one-way shout fest was how unrealistic it felt. Sure she felt apologetic but any person as spunky as she was would be interrupting, crying and yelling out her reasons (rational or otherwise) and explaining her actions and giving as good as she got. At the very least, I don’t think she would have left without being the one with the last word. Or maybe I’m just thinking about how I, a real-life person, would have reacted.

And he wasn’t much better by stubbornly shutting her one attempt to explain herself down. Though at least, even in that, he made sense.

Other tropes I can handle but people who refuse to communicate or try beyond a single failed attempt in one I have no tolerance for.

        1
        1

That’s exactly how I feel. I was really disappointed when she didn’t stand up for herself when he started going off on her. Maybe she felt like she deserved it, but still… she could’ve done more than just standing there and apologizing.

PSA: Don’t watch Just Between Lovers episode 11 if you’re sick because you will cry and then you won’t be able to breathe. (source: personal experience)

I’m finally making my way through all the KBS drama specials and this one was so cute! It’s Let Us Meet with Jo Bo-Ah and Son Ho-Jun and I highly recommend it if you need something to do for an hour!

Who knew that part 3 of Choi Daniel is straight out of a Yaoi would come so soon! I’m (mostly) joking on this one though because damnnn that is a nice 🍑 (this is also the first time I have ever used the peach emoji in this way so congrats, I guess, to Choi Daniel.)

I will never see his hands, actions, and body the same way as before. 😂 The fujoshi in me is coming out.

Hey the yaoi you’ve used above – isn’t that the mangaka that wrote the very cute detective-robber love story? They are stranded on a small island and the robber makes his moves. It’s super duper cute. ^^

I am not kidding, I smelled smoke from my air draft when this scene was on.No, for real, what a strange coincidence. Or not a coincidence?

Here is part 2 of proof that Choi Daniel is straight (haha) out of a Yaoi. If I have to live with this truth then it’s only fair that y’all do too.
