Beanie level: Errand boy

He may be a petulant weirdo, but his meltdowns are a riot, and when he changes the gear… Swoons for days, I tell you. If the scene in ep. 7 wasn’t a big, nasty fakeout, he may have climbed to the very top of my ranks. But alas…

P.S . I love that despite being absolutely gorgeous, Jun’s not afraid to make a face and lean into the comedy (or more like dive in head first). He’s being funny before he’s handsome, and honestly? That makes him hundred times more attractive.

    Your Face-of-the-ML series is always the best-est. ❤ 🥰

Jun’s a good actor and not afraid to take on dirty roles! I hated his deadbeat, drunk, and abusive character in Mask Girl – forever scarred lol, don’t know if he’ll make a comeback for me – but I recognize he’s good.

Also enjoyed his BDSM role in Love & Leashes.

The plot is… there somewhere. I’m paying attention, I swear.

That last pic reminded me of @seeker Cera’s
    “Er, Ryu Sun-Jae who!?” 🤣🤣

Thank you for sharing the most perfect screencaps. Between his voice and pretty pink cheeks and that milky overcoat I doubt any of us are complaining about *plot*.

The way he hauled the FL over his shoulder “like a bag of rice” is my new favorite swoony move. Although it may just be the blood rushing to the head from hanging down. 😂💖

It’s absolutely unapologetic in how silly, campy, and full of clichés it is, and I… absolutely love it. The leads’ chemistry is off the charts, the episodes are short so it’s a breeze to go through them, and did I mention the amazing chemistry between the leads?

(Why did I discover the pure delight that is Jun this late?!)

11

Be happy that you discovered him in a positive role! 😁 He is perhaps unfortunately way too good at evil roles too!

    5
    2

To clarify, I really really love him too! Pure delight is such an apt description!

It is always best to approach him with caution. I have been known to be pretty traumatised by his seemingly nice roles when he has turned on a dime. 🤣

This is my first time seeing him too and it’s been insta-love. It’s also my favorite role for PYJ. They are both a perfect fit for their roles 😍

You probably have met him in something better than me (the movie Love and Leashes, which I didn’t like at all).

    2
    1

Even Love and Leashes is better than some other dramas which are best not mentioned. 😂

There’s also a movie where he is so good he gave me nightmares for quite a while 😶‍🌫️

        1

          Same. 🙈

Even in May I Help You where he’s the ML I kept on wondering if he would turn out to be the villain.

          2
          2

Even Please Don’t Date Him tried to keep him an enigma for as long as possible! 😆 I call him the devil, poor boy! He is simply too good! But I really really love him, despite everything!

@midnight I was only *mildly* skeptical of him as the Prince Cha-min to Cinderella. Given the tone of the show he should stay good. 😊🤞🙏

Managed to give the premiere of My Sweet Mobster a watch! The drama is cheekbones, I mean cheekbones, I mean jawline, I mean…

What was I talking about?

Me, immediately after I made the “drinking honey during military” joke:

It was fun! I felt like the story knew exactly what it wanted to be and stuck with it until the end. It may have resulted in some exasperating bits, but overall I must admit my feelings after the finale are quite positive. I liked the flair it had, the heavy vibe, moody directing and intriguing premise. I enjoyed Jang Ki-yong as much as I did in Come Here and Hug Me (maybe even more? Considering his acting seems to have gotten better), discovered Chun Woo-hee, and OF COURSE marvelled at two talents that are Park So-yi and Moon Woo-jin.

P.S. Is it just me, or did JKY lines sound like they were dubbed over at times?I don’t remember him having such a smooth sounding voice… Did he drink a lot of honey during military?

Who would’ve thought that a show that advertised itself with toilet humour in the very first week, would turn out to be so pleasant in the end? It was by no means a spectacular drama, but I have to admit it has an odd charm; at times tad heavy-handed, but nevertheless quite enjoyable. Is around 90% of credit for that going to Kang Hanna and Go Kyung-pyo? Absolutely.

Also, I need to give a little bit of love to the one and only Byun Woo-seok, who with this drama decided that he’s fed up with being one of my “likes”, then promptly kicked out every single other actor out of my heart and made it his permanent residence. He’s showing no intention to vacate the place, and honestly? I don’t mind in the slightest.

13

Oh, the feels that I’m feeling right now… Did it have some hiccups along the way? Undoubtedly. Could some things have been done better? Probably. But what we got was still the story so thoroughly lovely, fun and full of heart, and to say that I’ll be remembering it fondly would be an understatement of a century. I’ll love it, miss it, long for Mondays, get all sad, then remember the absolute monster of an OTP that was Sun Sol (🌞🌞) and become a giggling mess. Rinse, repeat. Let’s rejoice in our sadness 😭💔🩹❤️‍

The part of the proposal scene with the ring was one of the best, if not the best, I’ve seen in k-drama 💕

Thank you for your perfectly chosen screencaps. All awesome. So glad they showed a wedding scene. How simply amazing does Sun-Jae look as the groom. ❤😊👏

Yay for part 2 of the “I’m cool, I swear” comedy show, where our dear Sun-jae makes an absolute fool of himself, gives us second-hand embarrassment for days, and in the end makes us giggle at his silliness 😂

10

    *That* expression!! LOL.
I swear Sun Sol have a competition at who can make a bigger fool of themselves but Sun is winning by miles.

Oh, how I love Ki-baek. Everything about him is so endearingly goofy. The way he shuffled into that Manner Legs position – too silly for words 🤣 About 90% of credit for Ki-baek’s charm goes to Go Kyung-pyo, who’s an absolute master at casual swooniness.

Way to make me squee at how cute they are, and then fall into a nostalgia-driven musical journey right after – it’s been AGES since I’ve heard a 2013-2014 EXO song, and after hearing XOXO of course I had to listen to some others.

11

Ah, it hurts me to see how much Sol is hurting… Where the cute at, dammit?

(I’ll love this drama forever for giving us such an amazing OTP that is KHY and BWS, and also for boosting my tall boi’s career the way it did, but I feel like it’s losing its steam toward the end; K-drama writers really need to learn that 16 is NOT a sacred number…)

I thought there were a lot of cute, funny moments to balance things out in this episode including drunk Sol with Tae-sung, Sun Jae with In-hyuk and his manager, and Sun Jae again with Sol at the convenience store. Sol and Sun Jae are definitely caught in a sad, frustrating loop, but the show still makes me laugh. And Sun Jae’s complete devotion to Sol, no matter what the status of his memory, is extremely endearing.

I was definitely more invested in episode 14 not that episode 13 didn’t have its cute moments. Now episode 15 seems like we’ll get a visit from ToD. 😱
On the whole Sun Sol still have my whole heart. 😊❤

Also, don’t tell me they don’t love each other, cause I will not believe you. In-hyuk loves them too, he’s just being shy 🙈

💯 In-hyuk proudly proclaimed Tae Sung as his friend while claiming credit for there being a huge audience for their (allegedly) last show.

I’m so glad this episode had SO MANY memorable comic moments.
The romantic scenes are too cloying to my liking, but the comedy is great (and a funny bromance always wins my heart).

Much like with Bae In-hyuk back in the day, I had to resort to collage making to keep at least a PART of screenshots I took this (perfect, amazing, squeee for days) episode.

I don’t have Sun-jae’s restraint, so… How many hearts? ALL OF THEMMMM ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️(∞)

You have more restraint than me. 😭

I totally understand @claire2009 when she says she wants to gif every second of an episode of her favorite drama.

Yeah… Screenshots are nice, sure (and a better alternative for my lazy self), but some things just need to be in movement (like Sun-jae sending kisses like a madman, hee).

Is it too soon to call that *iconic* 🤣
If you want to send flying kisses do it like Sun-Jae or not at all. 🙌

I managed to check out the premiere week of The Atypical Family, and despite the obvious issues I might have with it (and which were, from what I’ve seen, discussed at length by you, Beanies), I found myself sacrificing some of my sleep (it NEVER happens) to finish up the two episodes. It’s moody, grim, at times bizarre, and very much discrepant with the warm days of fast approaching summer, but I was more and more drawn the more I was watching, and left curious about many different parts of this strange setting. Gotta say, overall I’m kind of excited for the second week.

I’m looking forward to the next episodes too.
The cinematography and composition of images are quite elegant and different.

    5
    1

Yeah, the directing really elevates the scenes too. Everything looks sophisticated, dare I say artistic.

      3

It’s definitely unique, and the second episode was more watchable and enjoyable for me than the first. As you say, there are certainly problems with some of the characterizations and depictions of alcoholism and weight shaming, but I’m willing to wait and see how things progress. I do admit that the scene at the park with the ML thinking he was beating the crap out of the motorcycle guy to protect his daughter was darkly funny. It definitely encapsulated the humor of the show. And I wasn’t feeling the romance at all until that end scene, which really got me.

I feel the exact same way; I’m more than willing to observe and see how events unfold. It can all go in some really interesting directions.

    Same here.

Agreed, including on the timing of the release. I believe it’s @kiara and I who had an exchange this past winter about the seasonality of dramas. This doesn’t feel like a late spring release. Neither did The Midnight Studio.

    2
    1

Yup; this one screams fluffy blanket and a warm drink of choice 🤔 But we will see whether it’s the overall vibe of the drama, or just a stylistic choice to go along with the narrative, and as the characters undergo change, so will the rest.

      1
      1

And then…

If I end up dying to save you, I’ll be fine with that.

Well excuse me while I swoon my goddamn mind off…

A heavy melo starring Sol and Tae-sung made a glorious return! Gotta say, Sun-jae imagination and penmanship is right up there with the bestest of the genre.

There’s this one movie commentary channel on YT I enjoy and I find myself rewatching the vids from time to time. The comments under one of those mentioned k-thriller Midnight, and I remembered that I forgot about it (lol); and since it stars the one and only Wi Ha-joon, who is about to grace our screens (❤️), I decided to give it a watch.

It wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever seen (I feel like they relied too heavily on the main ‘gimmick’, and forgot about logic), but ohmaygad was Ha-joonie crazy good in there. I needed to have my pillow on standby, to clutch it when he was getting too creepy to handle. And Jin Ki-joo? She was amazing as always, and a solid protagonist to HJ’s antagonist.

Now, the big question is: how messed up on the scale of 1 to 10 is the fact that after seeing them in Midnight, I really want them to have a rom-com (or anything else with ‘rom’ in it) together? 😂😂😂

2

Good luck trying to spot the creepy Ha-joon of Midnight in the swoony ML of Midnight Romance.

    1

That’s the wonderful thing about him – he switches between the two effortlessly and both versions of him hit just as hard. Creepy? You got it. Swoony? Right away! Menacing? Say no more. Lovesick? At the drop of a hat. Now that’s the kind of versatility we love!
