That feeling when you’re watching a drama that you shouldn’t be because it has some of your squicks… but you can’t look away… but you’re waiting for them to fuq up what you like about it!
Name a US show that would be better as a Kdrama. I’ll start: ‘Forever’ (cancelled) from ABC. Medical-crime-conspiracy-romance with an ‘extra’ male lead. I’m going to go look up my dream cast.
Good pick. I really liked that show and was kind surprised and sad when they cut it off. Ioan Gruffad is dreamy and the dynamic of young dapper (mostly) celibate father – old casanova son was so fun. Can’t quite see it as a kdrama though… but this gave me sth fun to think about to distract me from the AYHT insanity floating in my brain at the moment. Thanks.
He’d be younger looking (because Kdrama). He’d be secretly chaebol like in Ghost. She’d be a noona-ish, spiritually defeated prosecutor who needs a little mystery & magic in her life. The conspiracy would be another immortal secretly runs the government.
My votes:
It’s actually a movie, but “Decoy Bride” would make an amazing k-drama. Celebrity is trying to get married to a regular joe but the paparazzi keep ruining it, so they go to a remote island and recruit a local girl to stand-in and throw them off the scent. Paparazzi find out anyway and Groom and Stand-In have long shenanigans when it is revealed they accidentally did the ceremony for real.
“Castle” would have been fun. Sparking chemistry between the leads, great side characters, unfortunately went on way too long and spoiled itself.
Title: Forest Of Secrets … Action: Binge … Feeling: Satisfaction. How do you have a dude that has no emotions but you ship him with every female (choi, han, eun-soo)? Somebody kiss the man!
The Master Plan is in play — Step 1: Wife ate hot stone bibimbap, took a two hour nap, and woke up to the realization it is the perfect comfort food. Next step: The K-Pop playlist on a long drive.
Ooh! Bad Guy II on Netflix! Binge-Time!!! Although, sometimes Netflix is weird because they don’t get the rights to music so when it’s quiet, I don’t know if it’s supposed to be quiet or just cheap.
Yeah, it depends on the song, I think. Watching the Answer Me series (especially 1994) on Netflix is weird because sometimes the music is different from the original… there was a whole music montage in 1994 that was cut from the Netflix version!
I noticed it for the first time with Strong Woman Do Bong Song — because the two BEST scenes with music — Min Min singing Michael Jackson in the car & the Bodyguard scene don’t have the music in Netflix. I couldn’t watch it on Netflix after that because the music is an integral part of the scenes.
How you know that you are Beanie… I am being dragged to Disney World so I am looking for a drama to binge on this ‘vacation’. Or maybe I need a re-binge.
Dragged?? I go willingly to Disney World!!! Hahaha. I am planning a trip for this November 😉. I can’t wait! Knowing I am going is helping me get through work each and every day…
@Ally has listed some pretty bingeable shows. I am thinking something light and easy instead of serious might be the best when on vacay.
Started Healer, I am through 13 episodes. It is tracking to end up as my favorite non-supernatural kdrama. (I’m a sci-fi/fantasy dude, so supernatural kdramas always get bonus points.)
I’m amazed by the number of comments on recaps… that might be my new measure of whether or not to watch an older kdrama… how hoping was the recap comment section.
Finished Weighlifting Fairy, liked it ‘while’ watching. Afterwards, felt the males were ‘additional’, found myself wondering if it wouldn’t have been a better story with just the ladies.
When you have a lot you to say about a drama, but you’re watching an old one (Weightlifting Fairy) and you think commenting on old recaps would be a little sad. (But you REALLY want to!!!)
I remember seeing it and not particularly seeing anything ‘great’… but there are so many good reviews that I decided to go past the first few episodes.
What I REALLY like
1. Female lead actress is physically creating a character — I see other pictures of her and I don’t believe it.
2. How ‘for real’ they were willing to go about crushes and how you feel and what happens when the other person finds out but they’re trying to be ‘nice’… That’s so painful to watch and remember when I had that crush.
Yes! The LSK’s acting is unbelievable: especially considering her career as a model ( with a body type very different from the character) and her earlier roles. ((Girl crush))
Missing polls! First “Oh, we like each other moment!” aka. The Stare, some dramas have multiple of these. Or best line, just for Strong Woman’s main dude teaching every guy how to take that step.
3 choices for favorite character!First Life has 3! Goblin has 2! Strong Woman has 2! Time for a cage match! Oh wait, that pretty much eliminates all but 3 super characters. Ok,I can live with it!
Black Knight Ep1-2: Nothing like a hero disarming the heroine with honesty, “Because I wanted to spend the day with you.” And the lady villains with the boots and the crow coat… my chips are in!
So has Black gone far enough that I can binge and ‘not knowing’ will not drive me crazy? Important note: I read the last page of a romance first… just in case.
I can’t really say I watched 1-14 last weekend and I have serious questions on how they will wrap it up, but I must say I don’t regret it at all and by the time you watch all those ep it will be time for 15/16 – they are going to 18. I skimmed Man-ho and his dad though, blech!
Yes. At the very least, the four episodes require binging as a group. As @katrina hints, there are some really horrible characters—actually almost everyone is awful. I’ve been watching live but I haven’t done too much scrubbing. The show requires its own conspiracy wall with red thread so … you might want to clear a wall in your living room.
Agreed on wall with red thread but I give up trying to follow every conspiracies and just mindlessly watching it. But I will watch till the end just to see how they gonna wrap the whole thing up.
Ha! That’s a good plan, @hanie! Last week or so, other Beanies recommended the same thing. I’m going with the flow and keeping my brain cells from other stuff like … real life and better shows.
When Ji Ho’s mom called her out on the nonsense, I thought Ji Ho was going to face-palm herself, look at the camera, and say “Oh… I’ve seen this in so many dramas! What am I doing?!?”
Lmao, I also thought that was such a moment of self-awareness for the drama.
I think the writer realized what she did… but it was too late to edit the script, so she left us that hint as an apology.
When you don’t speak Korean, but the acting and cinematography is good enough for you to ‘understand’ enough to make the raw watchable… I’m a sad-sad person today.
I agree with both JH and SH. Ji Ho is right, it started on a pile of crap, they have to start over. Se Hee has ALWAYS protected her feelings; once she spoke, he should not have done it differently.
Sitting here, waiting for the recap, so I can go all Soo Ji on Won Seok in the comments-don’t give that BS about you did it ‘for her’… you did it for you! (Yes, ‘all Soo Ji’ is a thing for me now!)
