I think ep 12 will go like this given how ridiculous Shin Lee can be with their poor and illogical character development ability (yes, I’m still traumatised to this day with how they failed to develop Chilbong as a character on his own and outside the love triangle, and also how they suddenly swerved with Binggeurae’s development too)
Based on how ep. 11 of Hospital Playlist went and with the content of the preview for ep. 12, I’m giving up on the hope for Jeong Won to have a consistent, logical and organic character development. It seems like they’re pushing the narrative that he likes Gyeo Wool romantically(?) and might even give up his priesthood dream because of her???¿¿?? When they barely have any emotional connection, except for a good mentor-mentee development?
I have no problem if they are romantically developed after his priesthood issue put behind him for good, FIRST. I mean they are now finally comfortable with with each other and it is looking promising for romantic development between them if he no longer pursue his priesthood dream.
But by making him waver because of her, like how Ik Jun is suggesting, it makes Jeong Won to be developed into some inconsistent and stupid alien or something?
If we’re to see the previews, it seems like it will focus heavily on GW x JW instead of an exploration on his own personal issues and dilemma so I have no hope left for his character development to be consistent, logical and satisfying to watch.
Because of how Jeong Won’s character and personality is already established, I find it hard to believe for him to waver for reasons less than those heavier concerns – leaving his old lonely mother alone, leaving pediatric surgery and his patients that gave him the most joy, leaving Yulje’s pediatric surgery department to collapse if he leaves, and not even his love from his 20s and fame in his 30s is as bright as his priesthood dream. And they’d make a crush being able to topple all that and let the hopeless romantic notion of ~love conquers all~ happen?
The only thing I’d believe he’d give it up is his own realisation he truly can’t part with pediatric surgery, or an outside force that’s totally out of his control over – sickness, accident etc.
Shippers will accept him wavering because of her with open arms no matter how inconsistent his characterisation might be, so long as they get what they wanted.
I seriously think he has no romance concern in his head atm as he’s bogged down with more heavier and complicated issues to deal with, but if Shin Lee made it that way then I’ll just 🤷♀️
If he wavers over GW’s character, I want it to be because there’s a shortage of pediatric surgeons and he now sees how he can be a mentor to one. That he likes her abilities and dedication as a surgeon. Not her as a woman. (But hey, I don’t think that’s how this is going to play out)
All along, I’d hoped his dilemma would be over the pain that being a doctor causes him, as we saw in the early episodes, and that maybe he’s running away from that responsibility to become a priest.
I am definitely in the minority but I expect to see Jung-won to pack his bags for Italy.
Jung-won has roomed with straight shooter Joon-wan for years, right? Unlike dealing with Ik-joon (believe me I love the guy), I think Joon-wan would tell Jung-won to do it. He is the one of the 5 that can make decisions unemotionally.
I dont want him to pack his bags but i dont want him to stay because of a crush or romance that we havent seen develop on his side for the past 10/11 episodes. But then Jun Wan/Ik Sun also came out of nowhere so yeahh..not much hope there.
Again, I completely agree with you on this. You were spot on about the season one finale. I thought they will be better and learn from their flaws from their previous series. I guess not. Watched this hoping they will redeem Chilbong’s wasted potential, look at what they have done again. They even have 3 seasons to manage Jeongwon’s arc better. But no, they refuse to do so. I guess I’ll never understand how can they can create characters with great potential but waste the opportunity to do so. Disappointed but not surprised, I must say.
This is also how I want it to progress. That all the other 4 reasons now has balanced his dream to be a priest, and his feeling or admiration for Gyeo-wool served as the last straw that finally tip the balance towards him staying as a doctor. Yep, a girl can dream.
Both scenes have many similarities, yet the first one only has a once in a blue moon one-on-one personal interactions shown on screen, while the latter is the opposite.
On k-internet drama discussion platforms, there are these slangs when it comes to shipping fictional couples:
1) 주식 매수 (jusik maesu) / 주식을 사다 (jusik-eul sanda)
= lit. stock purchase / buying stock
– in drama couples shipping context, it means kind of like choosing or investing in a top stock – very promising and full of potential ship? Aka choosing a ship that will most likely to sail 🚢
2) 사약을 마시다 (sayak-eul mashida)
= lit. drinking poison
– in drama couples shipping context, it’s like shipping a couple that is most likely not happening, despite the potential(?)
3) 사약 커플 (sayak keopeul)
= lit. poisonous couple
– same as above, aka a couple that is most likely not the endgame, despite the potential(?)
On k-comms as I observed, Ik Jun x Song Hwa & Gyeo Wool x Jeong Won are considered as the two major HP ships and have the most potential to sail given the screentimes allocated to them, with so many shippers shipping them aka them “buying their stocks”. While Jeong Won x Song Hwa are considered as a “poisonous” ship – least likely to sail (very minimal together screentime despite the existence of their potential) and only shipped by a few outliers, who were often jumped on by the major shippers for being “delusional”.
Now,
despite all those, /MY/ main ship is Jeong Won x the Lord 🤷♀️ Because I don’t think Jeong Won is into romance at the moment. I might be wrong but there seems to be so many other things weighing on his mind and romance is totally not his main concern. If he ever decide on his own to let go of pursuing priesthood, only then we can talk romance with him.
And I am feeling sad for my boy because everyone is imposing their assumptions on him and selfishly wants to decide on his behalf on what course should he be taking. They never take his words seriously nor respect his own wishes.
Why can’t everyone see how detached he is now from everything. His crocs used to have those colourful, cutesie Jibbitz Charms but now as at ep. 11, he has NONE of them on. (Ansjfj I know I sound ridiculous for using those silly jibbitz as example but they actually serve as a display of contrast?)
I’m so happy that actor Lee Jung Hyun got his breakthrough through his portrayal of Tsuuda in Mr. Sunshine. (Many were surprised to know that he’s a Korean, not a Japanese). He was invited to (con’t)

Thanks, daydreamer, I really enjoyed reading about Horace Allen. He’s mentioned a lot in the “Fifteen Years Among the Topknots” book that was posted a while ago, written by another of the Presbyterian missionaries: https://www.gutenberg.org/files/50609/50609-h/50609-h.htm
Which version did you watch? tvN’s or Netflix’s? Apparently they change the name of the organisation he is in. Originally he belongs to 흑룡회 (Heuk Ryong Hee aka Black Dragon Society) but after the complaints by some people, they change it into 무신회 (Mu Shin Hee) – a made up organisation name I think? Instead of Black Dragon Society which exists in real life and which the complainants were so against to be romanticised.
In the tvN version, the characters were heard to be saying ‘Mu Shin Hee’ (idk how they did they edit the audio. Probably overlapping the words or something). Whereas in Netflix, they still said ‘Heuk Ryong Hee’. Maybe they couldn’t meddle with the Netflix version since they already release it to them?
In both Netflix and tvN version the pastry chef mentioned the word “오야봉” when referring to Dong Mae which Netflix translates as yakuza leader. I think in a way, be it Black Dragon Society or the newly made up group name he is in, in essense he is still a yakuza / gang leader? The organisation he belongs to is an organized crime group.
This makes sense. It’s like saying you’re the leader of a “gang” organization generically, even if you’re in a specific gang, like the Crypts or the Bloods.
Yoo Yeon-suk is seen applying medication on Kim Min-jung’s hurt hand. Hina (Kim Min-jung) was washing away blood on her hand when Koo Dong-mae saw this and came forward. Although he is gruff with others, he is nice and sweet to her and Hana doesn’t seem uncomfortable with that.
Koo Dong-mae gives off a threatening air as he has two big swords around his waist. They seem like they’re talking, but it’s unknown what the relationship between these two are.
The scene was shot recently and the two actors had to express a mysterious relationship without words. They were very thorough with the scene before they filmed it and went over the little lines they have in their own methods.
The new tvN drama “Mr. Sunshine” begins on the 7th at 21:00 KST.
I was kind of skeptical that this show could be a hit for various reasons before this and was keeping my hope low, but this highlight video shoot my expectation through the roof ;____;
It really is a big challenge! And back then I was excited but at the same time worried as heck for Yoo Yeon Seok since this is not an easy musical to pull off and I didn’t have much faith in his voice lmfao. But he pleasantly surprised me (and others) after kicking off his performances – I’ve read thag the audience seem to be loving him as Hedwig! 😀
