Beanie level: Chaebol’s poor doppelganger

All these season 2 and 3 announcements are getting a little out of hand, there’s a handful that make sense of course, but some stories are meant to be contained.

I know right. I get that for a few shows, a second season is possible but I tend to stay away from dramas that will have multiple seasons. What’s more annoying are the parts. Dividing one show into two parts for more clout and viewership. This trend serms exploitative.

    1

Unfortunately that’s how their operating model works. They need to keep subscribers. And they think seasons will keep people from maintaining their monthly subscription.
But kdrama folks will subscribe as long as they keep getting new dramas/episodes every month. the dramas with weekly episodes by themselves take care of this problem for them. Plus there is no shortage of new content in kdrama.
I feel they are missing the point here.
But I don’t know what is their true reasoning though.
I feel this trend is getting worse now. I tend not to start shows which have parts. Glory for eg. If it were 2 episodes a week I am positive I would have seen that drama.

Went from watching nearly nothing all year to having 7 shows to catch up from this week alone. Me @ me: can you please learn some damn balance?

Kinda disappointed Chanmi never got to *really* shoot anyone with her gun (call me a sicko, I crave violence). Was truly expecting her and/or Sooheon to actually kill someone and the show having a whole hide-the-body/on-the-run portion when we were in it’s first half.

Well, the Revenge of Others finale was certainly a wack ass ending to a wack ass show. And Revenge of Others is now a drama I have finished. A feat that not many dramas accomplished in 2022. I certainly can’t say I was ever bored, lol.

Revenge of Others just hits you over the head with a steel chair scene to scene to scene. Sick mom *whack* brain tumor *whack* violence *whack*. It’s not subtle storytelling, but I sure am having fun.

Whoever’s doing the makeup for Revenge of Others is filling in Seo Jihoon’s eyebrows with a color that’s too light/warm. It’s driving me insane, lol 😭

*cries in extraordinary you cast*
I miss them so much 😭

    Me too!

It was so funny to see them explaining how they had to handle the difference of height (and Jung Gun-Joo and Kim Young-Dae weren’t there :p)

I like how they’re still friend and confortable they’re with each other. This drama was very important for each of them because it was their main role.

Was trying to remember the name of a new drama that I watched the first two episodes of–which I was really impressed by, but could only vaguely recall.

Turns out this was a dream I had and there is no new drama staring Seolhyun and Nam Goongmin as military operatives in a mystery supernatural thriller. Not a casting pair I\’d normally care for, but dream me was impressed. I can only imagine my brain dredged it up because they HAVE been in a mystery drama together before, but I wasn\’t interested by it then or now. Weird pull from the memory banks brain.

Ohhhh that s the greatest! You dreamed a whole kdrama! And then thought it was real. The brain is an amazing thing 😆

This is the second time it’s happened! I’d say it’s fun, but I’m honestly a little genuinely miffed I don’t have more episodes of these non-existent dramas to watch. If only I had the will or talent to write them.

It would be great to get some down on paper. The funny details (and there are sooooo many details in my dreams, at least) seem to go poof! in my memory and are lost forever.

My friend recently recovered from major spinal surgery and was on heavy medication. One night she dreamed that my late aunt told her that once every calendar quarter (every 3 months), my aunt had to get under her grand piano and hop like a bunny.

Just … so many questions 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Starting with, where could that have come from?

Awaken was a supernatural thriller with experiences on poor kids… The leads were in the Police. So you weren’t so far in your dream :p

      Awaken was such a mess.
      I like it though.
      I’m weird 😂

I really liked it too! We’re both weird, I guess 😅

They were like… investigating a cave with weird activity in my dream? I’m sure my brain plucked that from somewhere as well.

That’s so funny though, I would have only maybe seen the poster for Awaken at some point. Always find it interesting what our brains use as material for dreams 😆

The only cave activity i know of this year was from Jirisan. But dont check that out if you haven’t already.

🤣 Who knows though, maybe you have time travelled and in a few days/months you will see the drama you dreamt about and have the mother of all deja vu moments.

Revenge of Others episode 6 was a lot.

Kinda interested in Weak Hero but I\’ve already committed to watching Revenge of Others and they seem too similar to watch simultaneously.

The Yoon Park & Sooyoung drama is a mini drama? Welp, I must\’ve missed that in all the press releases 😭

Revenge of Others is absolutely WILD. I did not expect that level of escalation in episode 2. These are teenagers??!?!

Kang Tae Oh is a 5urprise member??! Man, those dudes have actually all ended up pretty well in their careers.

5
5

Out of all the 5urprise members, sans one of them who seems to have left the entertainment industry, Kang Tae Oh was the one who rose up to main lead status the latest, but he might just leapfrog them considering the last pre-military project of the other guys:
Seo Kang Joon: Grid – hmm
Gong Myung: Lovers of the Red Sky – welp
Lee Tae Hwan: Thirty-Nine – oh dear

To be honest, had he needed to enlist earlier, Tae Oh’s last project would have been Doom at Your Service so he really lucked out. Personally, I think his acting skills is one of the best in the group based on the projects I’ve seen (he’s definitely not the worst, I have a clear forerunner in that imo that I won’t say hehe).

Definitely the best one of the five. He tries a variety of roles and somehow makes even similar ones different. His character in Run On is an extrovert like Lee junho in EAW but he makes the two very different. Though SKJ has also started challenging himself with different roles.

Yoo Il is not very famous as an actor but the others are more famous. Lee Tae-Wan was the lead with Park Eun-Bin in Father, I’ll Take Care of You.

They always were more actors than singers honestly.

5urprise was actually an actor group with a group format like those of idols, which was why they had a couple of songs for their promotion. I think it was a deliberate tactic to get them noticed

That is exactly what I was wondering. Because all of them have about a decade of acting experience. So I guessed right.

Who do I have to pay to stop seeing stalker subplots? The daily fear of being a woman is not something I need so heavily incorporated into my fictional escapism.

It’s so true they sell Korea as safe because of all the cameras then you see every drama where they damage the camera’s or just don’t care. The public transport feel ups under the disguise of overcrowding and then following you home is terrible. The dark alleys and long walks from the main road to the houses on the hills always fill me with dread when I see them on a drama.

20 mins into the Jinxed at First premiere, and the tone they\’ve gone for is so unsettling?? Why was this pitched as a Romcom?

Do you also find it extremely off-putting that the ML is paired with the female lead who has the maturity and life experience of a child?

Super off-putting. Just about everything weirded or creeped me out tbh.

Vague post is vague for reasons, I apologize if it\’s incomprehensible.

But:

I feel like there\’s a difference between \”this character has committed an ugly, unlikeable action out of malice to hurt others\” and \”this character has committed an ugly, unlikeable action out of previously referenced insecurity that has hurt themselves and others by proxy\” that fandom can often at large miss the nuance of. Like, I can totally get the frustration at these instances, but the complete bafflement that the characters we root for will, intentionally, be made to act in ways that are not charming sometimes… puzzles me.

\”The writers ruined this character!\”…

Maybe the writers are exploring the consequences of previously established character flaws that you\’ve ignored to this point?

7
3

    I can relate to this.

I guess sometimes people forget that having a character a lot of people rooting for doesn’t mean the writer has to ignore previously established character flaws that would make them unlikable at times. I get it though, that it’s easy to assume that a popular character must be likable.

It’s especially confusing when said character is meant to be an anti-hero of sort. Isn’t the unlikable action itself supposed to be a part of said character’s growth? Granted, the “The writers ruined this character!” sentiment could be warranted when the character flaw suddenly reared its head during the final hour when everything should have been wrapped up nicely.

I’m not sure which drama or character you are talking about but this seems to fit the reason why I skipped Why Her despite liking the cast. The posts about ep 1 were already too strange. I don’t mind any story about a crazy or evil lead but I don’t like when the story itself or audience pretends the protagonist is some poor puppy that gets to do whatever they want.

I think some people just… watch TV shows very differently. There are many people who react to TV shows as if what is happening in the show, especially to a character they like, is happening to them personally, and get personally offended. They don’t look at the whole picture and they don’t see characters as complex beings but instead as a mean person being mean to them.

It’s, well, a bit odd to me.

Every show I\’ve been anticipating & every idol group I\’m into are premiering/coming back all at once can we calm down?! Every hour I\’m being jumped scared by teasers. Never been so blessed & stressed.

Yoon Park lead role??!?! I manifested this!

Do any beanies here use any apps/sites that remind you of upcoming/airing dramas? I know there\’s ones that track episodes watched, but I need something more specifically to remind me of premieres.

You mean to tell me Lee Je Hoon didn\’t get nominated for anything when he was in Move To Heaven AND Taxi Driver in 2021?
