I started ‘The One and Only’ with zero expectations and I’m loving it so far (just 2 eps) Anybody here watching it? or planning to watch after some eps?
Btw the sceneries are Pristine here!

    I don’t plan to because I thought it will be incredibly sad but it could also be the other way around and turn heart warming. Is it?

      I can totally understand your concern, that’s what I thought when I watched the poster (b&w, gloomy type) or when read the premise!
      But when I actually started it’s Different, it’s NOT like 3 women are in hospice so they’ll be in a room talking about life and crying, Not at all!
      These 3 women meets in a hospice, and then gets involved in a Murder (with our ML) and now are trying to handle and hide their mistake smartly! Overall feel of the drama isn’t as serious or sad as Human Disqualification!
      I’m not sure how it’ll turn out in the next episodes, but till now it’s fun!
      Yeah you can maybe wait for a week or 2, if it doesn’t become ‘Incredibly sad’ I’ll let you know! Works?

        I’m surprised at how hopeful the show is considering the main plot is them dying. I laughed out loud a couple of times and it’s not depressing.

    I love it! It’s interesting and the acting is top notch! I’ve only ever seen Ahn Eunjin in Hospital Playlist and her acting here is so different. She’s amazing!

      WDH will be with us next year in Netflix’s HUNTING DOGS. I am really looking forward to it. I believe that will be his comeback drama after his military discharge.

      (O/T. There is something about Netflix, kdramas and boxing: MOVE TO HEAVEN, D.P. and now HUNTING DOGS.)

Was astonished to see Lee joon hyuk in Life!

    For me in 2018 Lee Joon-hyuk’s cameo in LIFE was by far the best cameo of the year. There was so much going on with that appearance.
    You have the LIFE-STRANGER/ connections with: writer Lee Soo-yeon, and actors Yoo Jae-myung and Lee Kyu-hyung.
    Also in LIFE Lee Dong-wook played Dr. Ye Jin-woo.
    So when LJH steps out of the limo we have APAD’s Dr. Ye being observed by the other Dr. Ye from LIFE.
    Sorry for the convoluted explanation. I guess you had to be there. Anyway it was great. It comes right at the end and LJH doesn’t say a word just takes off those glasses.

      Well i saw Life for 2 reasons: 1. FOS writer 2. Cho seung woo (ofc after I saw FoS)
      and then when I saw so many from FoS, it was like bonus for me!
      But I never in my dreams thought about dong jae to be there man!!!
      and as I saw LIFE this year – this is my fav cameo!

        Of course Cho Seung-woo!! I should have listed him first.
        O/T. It wasn’t until recently that I realized that Moon So-ri, who was so wonderful this year in ON THE VERGE OF INSANITY, had been so good playing Dr. Oh Se-hwa in LIFE.
        Also this year Yoo Jae-myung gave a great cameo in HP2 and I think the whole time he was in surgical scrubs and for me it was like being back in LIFE except he wasn’t always exhausted lol.

          Yes I was happy to moon so-ri in verge of insanity! I think I’ll just like whatever role she plays, she’s been so good till now!
          Tell you honestly, most of the time I just keep connecting these actors, like ohh he was there, ahh she’s here! Recent eg is of head court lady in red sleeve, I was like oh she was Ah-ran in Human disqualification! Don’t mind me, I’m insane 🤭

Dramas I didn\’t love – Not sure about beanies (From all the dramas I\’ve watched till now)

1. Flower of Evil – When Female leads starts becoming Stupid in love – Over for me! On top of that unwanted emotional scenes, Cringy Romance, Dragging Episodes, Characters taking stupid decisions – The show spoon feeding audience and in end slipping from it\’s own premise! I rest my case!!

2. The King : Eternal Monarch – Again FL being mad in love, How on earth can a detective be that stupid and annoying, come on! The mains lack chemistry, lack of character development, Dull climax, Time travel and parallel universe concept is handled terribly. Plot was all over the place having more holes than a sieve. Thankfully, Woo Dohwan was there, Side characters carried the show! – And yes surely hated the cliche & biased ending! A drama that had lot of potential but failed miserably to deliver.

3. Squid game : For me, it\’s mildy entertaining, just about worth watching but a tad predictable. Got better as it went along then fell back and was muddled. I was expecting more philosophy behind all that from old man instead of just having fun because he could not feel joy anymore, or other emotions, he turns to killing people for entertainment.

      I have to click and that’s ok with me. Might be a server traffic saver function, or could be that click-to-start is becoming a new desired quality/norm on sites because motion sensitivities caused by auto plays for some folks.

Hey there red sleeve viewers!! I’ve binge watched 6eps in one go! So far so good!
I couldn’t understand that scene in ep 5, when court lady park was angry over some order changing which was apparently queen’s doing, I couldn’t understand what exactly happened there!
And one thing which is bothering me is how powerless our court lady is! I don’t like when she apologizes more than she even talk! The times she bows fearfully, saying my lord my lord!
I think she’s doing everything she can in her power as a loyal lady! But everybody’s treatment to her is sometimes painful to watch, be it the crown prince, princess, queen, even that teacher🙄
Ik that I shouldn’t see a sageuk with a modern mindset, but expecting a good behaviour atleast from crown prince is too much to ask?!

    You should never watch any historic drama (Korean or western) with a 21st century mindset.
    A court lady is just a servant and she is treated like one. In fact she’s quite privileged because she lives in Palace.
    Just imagine it’s a modern drama with a chaebol and a candy. Nothing is invented, it’s always been there.
    As for episode 5 scene, as fas as I know, Deok Im place was changed son Yi San mother could talk to him about not having a court lady as a concubine, and Yi San said he would never do it because they are low rank commoners and not fit to him , and Deok Im heard it.

    Social conventions of the palace dictate that she apologise thus.
    If a personage of lower rank, particularly a servant, to a royal, misspeaks, they must apologise, or they risk death essentially. There are formalities in address and speaking and language that they had back then, which we do not have in the same way now. Even modern Korean, which still is a formalised language (jondaemal and banmal), was even more so historically, particularly in the palace, or from royal/noble to commoner/servant/slave.
    It can take a bit of getting used to.
    Personally I love language conventions like this, and think they’re fascinating, so I don’t mind them, but not everyone is a linguistics geek like me haha.

    San’s mother changed the order of the court maids presenting to San, because she wanted to make a point to San about getting romantically involved with a court maid, in front of the court maid that he likes, so she could also hear. It was a warning to both.
    Of course, history will tell us, that San’s promise to his mother to keep relations within the nobility, will not be kept, nor will Deok Im’s insistence of not becoming a concubine.

      Ahh you’re right about getting used to, my first saguek after all! I understand about those rules and how things were in past, but does rules and formalities really applies when it comes to your beloved!?😅 But yeah that’s how the things were! (Uk I hated the confession from Darcy in pride and prejudice too, like how dare he, but accepted after re-reading and understood!
      And about language con. I guess I would have really really loved it if it was in a language I could understand, cause I’m a linguistic geek too! (Maybe subtitles are making me feel that way!)🙂

        Ah yes hahaha.
        At least right now when they’re not actually lovers yet, and definitely in the company of other people, and probably still somewhat in private for the time being. She already takes an awful lot of liberties when she’s with him alone anyway haha.
        He is still the Crown Prince, soon to be regent, and then King 😉

        Ahhh knowing the language would definitely help for sure! haha *high five to Lingy* How long have you been watching Kdramas? I don’t speak Korean, let alone Middle Korean, which is what they speak in Sageuks, but I have picked up a lot of vocabulary and recognise a lot more of their conventions now because I’m so used to listening to the language. Perhaps it will become easier with time.
