Sorry Not Sorry: Episode 5

Our girl opens up about being lonely this week and is looking for love. With our heroine’s friendship group expanding she is encouraged to join a running club to meet someone organically, as she wants to be upfront about her checkered past. The universe definitely seems to be pushing her towards someone in particular.

EPISODE 5

The flustered response to Chan-yang’s question last week is the start of a budding friendship. Chan-yang had asked Song-yi if she was having an affair with her husband, and Hana jumps in to defend Song-yi letting the cat out of the bag that Song-yi is Jin-ho’s ex girlfriend. Woops. It would seem Chan-yang had picked up on all of the shifty behaviour of both Song-yi and Jin-ho. She had read Jin-ho’s messages and got her binoculars out to check on his whereabouts. (The hidden sleuth Chan-yang let out amused me no end.)

When Song-yi can finally spit her words out she defends herself by admitting to Chan-yang that she and Jin-ho were a couple a long time ago, and she was just giving him advice on sex — and she’s got the messages to prove it. Chan-yang is so amused that Jin-ho actually has a past, and I think she does believe Song-yi. And if I’m not wrong, she’s a little grateful too.

Chan-yang was actually at the kids cafe to bounce on their trampoline, and she invites Song-yi and Hana to join her. As the three ladies are chatting after their bounce, Chan-yang asks if they can be friends. Chan-yang explains how she feels like she’s just going through the motions and that something is missing, and both Song-yi and Hana understand. Our three ladies have felt lonely even though they are surrounded by people. (This friendship will pick up the pace of our show as our three girls are so very different, and I can’t wait!)

A definite bonding moment happens between our three friends when Song-yi meets disaster and falls getting out of the bathtub. Song-yi lies on the floor for hours and Chan-yang finally hears her discomfort through her toilet as she is in the unit above Song-yi. Just watching Chan-yang talking to her newfound friend through the toilet bowl — and not being fazed by it — makes me think this girl’s a bit off the wall, and I love her for it.

After Chan-yang has saved Song-yi, she tells her — with a complete lack of a filter — that dying alone on your bathroom floor isn’t as unusual as you would think. (Excuse me while I clean the coffee up that I just spat out.) Song-yi’s little face looks so bewildered when Chan-yang adds “especially the elderly.” And that is what Song-yi is – old and alone. *Hides behind hands* Song-yi cries out that she doesn’t want to be old and alone. Much to Chan-yang’s dismay, the poor girl had no idea what buttons she was pushing.

All three of our ladies are sitting around Song-yi’s kitchen table after said incident and Song-yi opens up to them about not wanting to be alone. But with Song-yi’s past, she doesn’t want to join a matchmaking service or anything. Chan-yang suggests joining a club to meet someone naturally, and with both her and Hana in agreement, Song-yi joins said running club.

At Song-yi’s first session with her running club there is a surprise member: Hyun-woo. (Thank you, universe!) Song-yi is as petty as ever with Hyun-woo until she takes a tumble while stretching and he catches her. Song-yi is frozen in position by the close proximity to Hyun-woo, and he gently lowers her to the ground. Still frozen in position – she is dumbfounded and I am laughing my ass off.

The running club goes for a meal and the other members chat about their divorces — it would seem Song-yi isn’t the only divorcee there to date. It’s the cutest thing watching Song-yi and Hyun-woo spend the entire time whispering about who’s telling the truth and largely agreeing with each other.

It’s interesting to see one of the men who takes an interest in Song-yi begin to bombard her with questions about money, children, her job, you name it. Song-yi comes to realize that what she wants is true love, like the hopeless romantic she is — she’s not here to tick someone’s boxes. So as Song-yi sets the record straight with this guy, Hyun-woo is sitting hidden around a corner smiling while listening to every word. (Cute.)

As they are neighbors, Hyun-woo is walking behind Song-yi on the way home – no doubt due to her past hostility towards him — but now she tells him to walk with her. Hyun-woo tells Song-yi he joined the running club to clear his head, and she asks if it’s about work. Just as he is about to open up, she squeals that she forgot her takeout order. Talk about timing!

On the way home, Song-yi and Hyun-woo are discussing the murderer that they saw on the news: he has broken out of prison and there is reward money if he is caught. And just as Song-yi is saying she really needs that money, a man cloaked in black and looking shifty walks into their path. As they unmask him, Song-yi recognizes him as Hana’s husband, who then promptly runs away.

They chase Hana’s husband and he disappears around the corner only for the real killer to appear in front of them. Song-yi, being the spitfire she is, jumps on him, but the guy is huge. Hyun-woo tries to help her and she mistakenly bites him in the process. LOL!

As the murderer gets the upper hand and starts threatening both Song-yi and Hyun-woo, Hana’s husband comes back and knocks him out. (That got a little hairy for a second.) When the brave citizen award is mentioned, Hana’s husband initially says no, as he doesn’t want Hana to know he was there. But the mention of the reward money soon perks Hana’s husband up, and this makes Song-yi suspicious. Song-yi and Hyun-woo ask Hana’s husband what’s going on and he starts crying begging them not to tell Hana they saw him. He’s been working as a part-timer delivering food. This is weird. Song-yi obviously feels bad for Hana’s husband, but will she keep it a secret from her best friend?
