My questions regarding on the future and the fate of Dramabeans from March 2025 onwards during post-fanwall era:
(1) Will Dramabeans survive despite the end of fanwall this year or a major total loss of Dramabeans website (due to cost-cutting and of course, the continuous decline of number/no. of active Dramabeans users (like me), I think) then resulting the "RIP Dramabeans" trend and of course, resulting old (like me!) and new Kdrama fans to be reacted the Dramabeans shutdown as "saddest", "maddest/angriest", "most tragic", "most disastrous" and "most disappointment goodbye/farewell ever"? (For me, I was the one of people who want to keep Dramabeans throughout 2025 and beyond.)
(2) Will the past and inactive veteran Dramabeans staff/writers will mostly be return?
(3) Will there will be a non-K-drama (for example: wax poetic C-dramas, Thai dramas, Japanese dramas, Filipino dramas) content on Dramabeans from March 2025 onwards?
(4) After the confirmed removal of fan wall on March 2025, there will be posting pics only on comments?
(5) Will Dramabeans users (like me) still wanted to use drama hangouts? (Recently, I found and I saw that Squid Game 2 had sadly no Dramabeans drama hangout yet until now. :( OMG, what happened to Squid Game fans wanted to have a Dramabeans series review only?)
Let's see if I will wait for someone's answers from March 2025 onwards. So stay tuned for me on March this year and find out what the future and the fate of Dramabeans is all about.

There is a significant South Korean trend that has yet to emerge in kdrama land. Younger generations (Millennials and Gen Z) and trendy foodies have embraced a new drinking passion: imported whiskey. The reasons are simple: though much more expensive, young drinkers want to savor the flavor, have a sophisticated or “small luxury” experience, and drink less than their elders. It is such a trend that whiskey high balls are sold in premixed aluminum cans. Broadcasters are clearly nationalistic in their programs so it is more likely that they will continue to present in scripts soju and other local liquors as the alcohol of choice. (Note: South Korea imposes a 155% tariff on all imported liquor).

Sigh. Los Angeles County has been doing an Unseasonable Inferno Impression. I haven't been near any of the burned areas for years, but my home smelled a bit smoky Wednesday, and it seems the neighborhood I grew up in may be toast. Literally.

https://media.cnn.com/api/v1/images/stellar/prod/06-closer-swir-view-of-burning-buildings-altadena-california-08jan2025-wv3.jpg?c=16x9&q=w_1280,c_fill
https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-01-08/shocking-before-and-after-satellite-images-show-destruction-of-malibu-and-altadena-neighborhoods

As of Wed evening/Thu morning there were some issues with the news coverage. The reported number of buildings destroyed in Altadena (Eaton Fire) was plainly far too low compared to satellite pictures and on-the-scene reporting of burned neighborhoods along streets that I have been on (although not recently).

Also, starting Wed evening there seems to have been some imbalance in reporting between the Palisades fire, Eaton fire, and some upstart latecomer fires. This may have been partly because Altadena is less prosperous than the Palisades, but also partly because of winds and geography. Earlier in the day when the winds were high and helicopters were grounded Palisades and Eaton/Altadena got roughly even coverage, but when the winds died down and air coverage mostly took over the live feeds Altadena got neglected. Wed evening one helicopter reporter covering other fires said they couldn't go over Altadena because the air turbulence was too severe, and Thu morning one said they couldn't show Altadena because too much smoke. Also, a lot of interviews have been with LA city officials, and Altadena is in the county but not in the city. So it wasn't necessarily entirely because they were focusing on richer areas.

But I can't help wondering if Altadena might have been underserved in the pre-fire allocation of fire-fighting resources.

I grew up there hearing lots of fire news every year and I have pretty strong opinions on some things. People who live in or close to the hills should know they are at high risk and if they can't accept that risk they shouldn't have moved there. But most of Altadena wasn't especially close to the hills (look at the CNN pic above) and shouldn't have been at risk. And considering what I've heard about demographic changes there in recent decades, plus California housing costs and the insurance market, I suspect many homeowners there are deeply screwed.

As of Thu evening Zillow says the house I grew up in is worth over one million, which seems too high even pre-fire. I plan to keep checking to see when/if it gets re-valued as a pile of smoking rubble.

BBC showed satellites images of Altadena. It is horrific.
But the few houses standing are from stone / brick. Soooo.... i think a big part of the destruction is the wooden construction of american homes.

It is maybe out of place to say but i hope someone saysit on tv: ukrainians see this kind of destruction every day, but with bombs and explosions. So americans should not turn away from helping them. They now almost know what it feels like

Having been jolted out of bed by an earthquake this morning, I'll just point out that in earthquake country, brick and stone are much more vulnerable to damage and likely to cause injuries and death than wood construction. It's a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation.

well, yes, earthquakes. it is possible to build on the new turkish technology (which would have largely prevented a lot of collapses in their own mega earthquake, had someone not pocketed money). They developed a way to build concrete house that withstands earthquake and the few they had built is proof.
I meant more like, giving material for fire by using wood. like nowadays it is possible to use other materials...
just looking for solutions not critisising.
defo more money needs to go into research and engineering.

1

I'm a bit late, but stone & concrete construction can have an advantage that I'll bet most Beanies have never thought of.

I'm afraid you are wrong about construction being the main issue. No mass built housing could withstand an inferno fueled by 60-100 mph windgusts and tinder dry vegetation. But you are also wrong that we residents of the U.S. west didn't already know what this kind of destruction feels like. Although not quite to this scale, massively destructive fires have become part of life here.

My relatives in L.A., who all had to evacuate, know what has sadly become the drill--the box of important documents/family items already packed, a list of anything else of other things to be prioritized in terms of quick packing in the face of fire, and an awareness of places that might serve as a refuge. (as you might imagine, not everyone has these places to go, and even for my family, pets are a huge problem in terms of evacuating them and finding places to stay with them.) Living in a different part of Southern California, I myself have had to evacuate from a previous massive fire, and I know the fear of sitting in unmoving traffic among those fleeing and seeing fire roaring down the nearby hillside, not to mention the choking smoke turning the atmosphere orange-yellow, and then post fire, the awful burned smell that lingers for weeks.

You are right, that Americans, as an insular but relatively wealthy population, should not turn away, as we frequently do, from helping people around the world who are experiencing horrible disasters of their own--war caused and otherwise.

But to disagree with one more thing, the context of this disaster is not the atavistic war of conquest being waged by Putin, but rather similar horrific fires in Europe, Canada and Australia, and flooding and mass death in Asia and Latin America from torrential, never seen before rainstorms. In other words, its climate change that is the existential threat here. But I see very few nations effectively doing much about that, even though most have expressed more concern than the bulk of the U.S. population has.

I'm no expert on fire prevention, but one of the on-the-street reporters Wed said the houses he saw burning had started when embers landed on the roof and set it on fire.

Sounds right to me, EXCEPT that I was hearing a lot about the importance of fire-proof/resistant roofing decades ago and I would have hoped that kind of risk had been mostly addressed by now. FWIW, I live in a condo complex and before that in an apartment, so I've never been in a position to think about replacing a roof with something better.

2

I'm not a native of Socal, but I drove through LA on Tuesday night after spending the day at Disneyland. I had no idea there was a fire(s) until the wind picked up at Burbank (55-68 miles per hour). Even with closed windows, I could smell the smoke, and debris was everywhere. I could hardly control my car, and I had to pull over a few times cause I was scared to death. It took me 4hrs to get to SCV.
I was supposed to go to Universal today with friends, but I heard it was shut down since Wednesday.

The Santa Ana wind is no joke. It's no wonder people called it the devil's wind.

@lordcobol “Wondering if Altadena might have been underserved in the pre-fire allocation of fire-fighting resources” I’m thinking along the same lines. Also, Altadena is an unincorporated city, it’s under LA county.

The winds was treacherous too. Helicopters couldn’t fly. Even driving was dangerous.

But I have to say that the houses in Altadena cost $900k to over $1M pre fire. I know because my daughter is trying to buy a house.

In unrelated news, I may be commenting in OT more often than I have been, to partially compensate for the soon-to-late, extremely-lamented fan walls. The issue has been that I work and live a schedule that makes commenting on WWW & OT inconvenient unless I wait until everyone else has read, replied and moved on with the rest of their day. For WWW I set an alarm, post my piece, and try to get back to sleep, but I didn't want to do that two days in a row.

Meanwhile I keep seeing things that I want to take screenies of for my fan wall, but then I remember The Notice and just don't bother.

My heart truly goes out to those being impacted and whom are on their toes not knowing what's going to happen next.

Wildfires are also a very common thing where I live (Alberta, Canada), but things have definitely picked up and gotten worse as the years go by. An oil town (Fort McMurray) burned down not even to years ago in my province-- 2016-- and even before they've been able to make a full recovery, a mountain town (Jasper) just burned down in my province this past summer. Both times, smoke blanketed the entire province and the 2 provinces I'm sandwiched between and there was ash raining down for days on end.

It's hard now, but don't give up hope, don't give up on trying, and do what you can. Stay vigilant--but most importantly-- stay safe and take care ❤️ It's easier said than done-- I know-- but it's in times when we're on the brink and feel like panicking, that we have to force ourselves to be more rational and remember to think straight. Plan ahead as much as possible. Know that you have a (online) community here on DB that's thinking of you and has you wrapped in our prayers!!

^ This goes for everyone--in and around SoCal-- who is being impacted by the ongoing SoCal fires 💪🏻

NOTES FROM 9TAILEDVIXEN'S 1ST WEEK BACK AT WORK AFTER THE HOLIDAYS:

1. LIFE NOTES

(a) The Chinese/Lunar New Year is coming so I've been doing festive shopping (all the traditional treats/goods for gift bags) and have resumed festive baking after just a couple of weeks of Baking Downtime after Christmas. It feels like a neverending festival period whenever the Lunar New Year kicks off in January.

(b)>/b> Aerial Yoga continues to go well except I'm still hit-and-miss with completing flows - I would absolutely nail a flow for 2 classes running, then get stuck halfway learning another flow. Hopefully I'll be able to complete flows EVERY CLASS by the end of 2025.

. THIS WEEK IN KOREAN WOMEN'S NEWS:

(a) Korea's female employment rate low among OECD nations: report

Korea's employment and labor indicators for women have remained low among members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) over the past two decades due partly to the lack of adequate government support and sufficient jobs, a report showed Monday.

According to the analysis report by the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) on employment and labor of women aged 15-64 in 38 OECD countries, the employment rate and labor participation rate of Korean women came to 61.4 percent and 63.1 percent, respectively, in 2023.

The FKI said Korea ranked 31st among OECD nations in both categories.

https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2025/01/113_389770.html

(b) UN demands North Korea clarify if it executed two women repatriated from China

U.N. human rights experts have called on the North Korean government to clarify whether it executed two women forcibly repatriated from China, as well as reported sentences of life imprisonment for nine other women.

In a letter dated Nov. 6 and posted online Sunday, seven U.N. special rapporteurs expressed “grave concern” over undisclosed reports that 11 women were tried in Aug. 2024 in North Hamgyong Province on charges of “operating adult entertainment venues, prostitution and ‘insulting the dignity of people.’”

Two of the women, aged 43 and 39, were reportedly sentenced to death and executed the same day, while the other nine received life sentences, according to the letter. “The fate and whereabouts” of the nine women sentenced to life in prison “are not known,” it states.

It’s mind boggling to me how optics-wise the SK’s Ministry of foreign Affair (and SK general leadership) comes across as weak.

NK sends troop to Ukraine - SK refuses to pass aid to Ukraine;
NK executes Koreans outside of Korean peninsular - SK scratches its butt;
NK sets a fish official on fire - SK talks in UN-speak and tots and prayers.

In light of Jeju airplane disaster, I’ve been mum and didn’t mention a squeak about the SK foreign affairs failures.

But either I’m missing some details (probably but I’ve read watched this issue through and through) or indeed the SK foreign strategy is anemic and unjust to the victims of NK’s crimes.

After DB admins' announcement of the fanwall deletion yesterday, I have been exporting my posts each to a pdf file, including all comments in the post. Those posts hold a lot of fond memories to me, and although I don't know when I will read them again, I can't imagine I am without them.

Now to the technical aspect: I have only 12 pages of fanwall, so even at DB loading speed, I will finish my job in no time (A large part of the time I have spent on backing up those posts today was on smiling in nostalgia when looking back at those posts).

I guess if you begin with your latest post, and once you have finished the exporting, if you delete that post, you will not have to keep scroll down through pages. So it would be easier for those of you who have been using the fanwall for long.

Anyway, I'm sure most of you already know how to go to a specific page, but just in case, this is how you do it, for example
https://dramabeans.com/members/claire2009/?acpage=3

If you have long comments with a part hidden, you will have to click "Show full comment" in order for the full comment to be shown in your pdf file. You can do "Ctrl + F" in Windows or "Command + F" in IOS and search for "Show full", by that you can jump to all long comments without having to scroll down and find them yourself.

And although I didn't want to, I have deleted a number of my posts containing pictures. Who knows, maybe DB admins would change their mind and keep the fanwall, then I hope the deletion of my posts would help, albeit minimally, with the loading. In case the execution will happen as scheduled, then all posts will be gone with a piece of my heart anyway 🥹

RIP fanwall, glad I never moved my long essays there despite thinking about it. But life must go on, so:

Happy Friday, Beanies! Also, Happy Birthday to the cause and star of this whole segment - LYN himself! Since birthday boy isn't wise enough to receive my heartfelt congratulations in person – huge loss on his part! – I'll stick to basic wishes for him to always stay healthy, happy, employed and shine even more from now on))) We were supposed to celebrate the occasion together via late night livestream on 7th, but it got postponed over Tibet earthquake (he donated 500K yuans to its relief fund btw). Few other mishaps later he ended up having to spend his big day recording 2 (!) different Lunar NY galas in 2 different cities, taking a flight in between... Even for a man who exists to work it doesn't sound very fun(((

Unfortunate circumstances aside, things quickly turned into competition who will flatter him more: Weibo announcing he's getting their Livestream King award for 4th year in a row (I swear, this thing ONLY exists just so they can butter him up lol!) with a whole ass spreadsheet of his streaming achievements in 2024 (19 streams, 60+ hours and 700+M views total), iQiyi spamming their YT with fresh compilations of his MELODY JOURNEY stages, JiangsuTV actually throwing him a party with cake and all mid-gala... He ended up wishing for more work this year, idk if I should laugh or cry at it.

Upd.: he couldn't wait long and did the livestream yesterday! Never missing his chance to mess up with my drafts, isn't he?))) Proper coverage later, but the main entertainment of this stream was him reading fan letters out loud – bro, wtf, those are personal! It's not like real-time comments on your videos or me being horny on main for all Beanies to judge consciously typing whatever I feel like! Does he think he's cute enough for his fans to forgive him such a breach of their privacy? Perhaps he is, despite getting all hissy at being called “cute/wife/daddy” there (serves him right lol), but I'm not very amused overall. Ah well, he's likely forgiven already after tearing up over one extra touching one – subbed version (200% support “eat more and read less hate” advice):

Upcoming festive mood must've infected him early on, which could've been seen last Saturday on Tencent's Video All Star Night already – man radiated handsomeness and good vibes even before getting awards there: “Eye-Catching/Notable Artist Of The Year” (as both singer and actor for HEROES) and “Members Favorite Variety Show Of The Year” as a part of THE TRUTH S2 cast, which he accepted together with his ZLH and ZKY, collectively towering over anyone else in the venue lol:

Solo acceptance speech translated – so, Tencent, did you get that “release TPOB” memo? Man spelled it out to you in neon capital characters, take a hint finally! Some people got excited over Yuning and Tian Xiwei in the same frame after earlier rumors of them costarring together, but sorry, still don't see the appeal, esp after witnessing her “acting” in DAFENG.

Ofc, there was also singing – prior to awards part in his case – for which he dressed... how do I say it... more rebelliously? Fandom was collectively puzzled by everything going on in that look at the same time – formal top (yet another deep cleavage notwithstanding), snowflake hairclips (cute!), sheer nude lace turtleneck (that's turtleneck, right? at first I thought it was scarf trying to pass for a choker... gonna have LOTS of fun imagining how it looked unbuttoned, heh) and then suddenly full punk pants and boots?! Turns out it's Balmain (again! brand deal when?) newest collection and he chose it to “spice his suit routine up”, hmm. Enough of fashion, back to music – he did “Stolen heart” yet again! Only half of it, unfortunately – seems like there were interesting elements to the arrangement (the orchestra!), mainly the intersection, but it was way too short to develop((( Was that ZWY in the end all misty-eyes and engrossed?^^
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4f5EheWcug

And also a half of “Splashing ink” (THE RISE OF NING OST):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgxXjAxl8B4

More trophies with Tencent Music Charts (TME) & ZhejiangTV Nigh Of Honor, which he recorded nearly a month ago on rainy day, looking full vampire aristocrat – or a human-sized wax doll on some press shots lmao - again in all turtlenecked black with long emo bangs. He got “Top OST Singer Of The Year”, which makes much more sense than many of these awards wording-wise))) If you're as confused as I was why there's TSOPG clips, that's because its OST charted well there, despite being Youku's drama. In conclusion, penguin should air TPOB asap and stop borrowing others cookies))) Acceptance speech translated:
https://x.com/fandoestrans/status/1875917825032036604

Hah, MC made him sang a bit of “Only wish” too (acapella!) – is that how they're hyping up his upcoming dramas with them or what? Still hate the song, it never fails to give me heebie-jeebies...
https://x.com/fandoestrans/status/1875920294160076860

And a glimpse of his future album – song title translates to “Share the stars”. I like the sound, even without music it's already sweet and maybe upbeat too.

Thank you, Chingu!!!

I wished him a Happy Birthday a few times in some of his live broadcasts.

4

How lovely! It's been a good year for LYN, a career changer. Thank you for chronicling this happy story. We all need happy.

Excellent Pomellato photoshoot. So far, in this one posting alone, we got Balmain, Pomellato, and Balenciaga. Once you reach Balenciaga, you are touching gold (imho). Also, the puppy!

Oftentimes, over many years, I've thought how tedious it must be for these performers to sit in the audience at awards events. China takes that to a new level, with hours of tedium for the actors in the audience. And, they are obliged to wear the most outrageously uncomfortable getups. This is why I love Jennifer Lawrence who has been known to show up at awards ceremonies wearing Chanel gowns with flip flops, sneakers and bedroom slippers.

3

@kiara hi! I wish I could join the chaotic fun of his livestreams, but making an account and then navigating Weibo seems like such a hassle... Maybe later, in better times. I'll take this time to improve my Chinese till then)))

3

Thanks, Gikata!

Today I watched an old video (but I hadn't watched it yet) from the shooting set of Prisoner of Beauty. LYN was so nice and funny while showing and explaining everything!

I wish we can see this drama someday.

2

@isagc ah, the recently subbed livestream he did from the filming set back then? I've yet to go through that one but very intrigued)))

Ikr, it's been a long overdue for the drama to air, I'm rather tired from rumors and whispers that go nowhere in the end. Now even novel translation 2.0 (first one got unfortunately wiped off the internet due to some blog failure and unwise lack of backups) also halted for reasons unknown, just when I was in the mood for 5th or so reread...

2

Congratulations to the hardworking dear boy!! 🎉🎂 I do hope he will accept your wishes in person or at least not read aloud your private comments on his livestreams.

I don't know whether I should wish for him to be swamped with more work but I would 💯 wish for him to be healthy and do as much work as he is able and which makes him happy.

Good to know that I have someone rooting for my hopeless cause))) If you ever see me in handcuffs, know that I succeeded and he unromantically called cops on me for it^^ Doubt I'll ever write any more handwriting love letters in this lifetime (because I hate holding a pen and my handwriting SUCKS) and my internet comments are... let's just say I don't care who sees them (heck, my PARENTS lowkey stalk my sns, I'm sure of it!), but if he wants to keep his other fangirls pleased he needs to work better on his "nice guy" persona here, that was borderline teen manga ML level of tactless (PLAYFULL KISS opening sequence with love letter roast, anyone?).

Even more work was his "public" wish, from what I understood, he kept the real one to himself with a coy "I probably shouldn't say that HERE..." - truly a master of keeping the suspense, this guy!))))

You're underestimating his prickliness for sure))) And as much as I love the guy, if he proposed that cursed thing starting with letter M to me, I'd be the one running away screaming... All the other sinful out-of-wedlock options are considerable tho^^

We need to wait to get a proper video and translation of that segment, because I couldn't quite understand if he meant "I shouldn't say my wish out loud, that'll spoil the magic" or "I shouldn't say my wish out loud ON NATIONAL TV", could be either. Hope it comes true anyway, whatever that was, because simply "more work" is NOT what one should dream about above anything else!

1

Ah! Well I hope both of you get your wishes, whatever they may be. 😂

The heartfelt fan letter, that was also lovely. Thank you.

Lovely indeed, esp how he "lagged" when realization hit)))

Balenciaga is a big love of his, don't recall it ever being reciprocated yet - I'm afraid he's paying his hard-earned cash for it all, not getting sponsored gifts from them. While Balmain seems already halfway there with constantly reposting him wearing their stuff, maybe they'll be able to overcome his natural disdain for fashion-related sponsorship.

Speaking of - he also talked about pre-event preparations stars do, including mock dressings and photoshoots in hotels DAYS before the big night... His explanation why he doesn't do that and opts to cram everything into one day, usually resulting in skipping red carpet part altogether? Too costly to pay for all that dolling up TWICE)))

You are a great example that OT can be used effectively for most raves and rants. 👌

Side tidbit from an old beanie: back in the day before the site revamp, over the comment box at the bottom of every recap, instead of a phrase like: "leave a comment", it was : "rave or rant". So appropriate for smitten or frustrated kdrama fans!

If I could inspire other Beanies to move their raves and rants (why did they change that? sounded much better!) back from fanwall here, count me in! It's alright, folks, really: not without some additional hassle and limitations, but nothing a truly passionate yapper cannot overcome! Even site's big bad filter already got used to my quirks more or less...

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

Ooof, what a blow.

To be honest, I considered cutting back on Dramabeans in 2025 to focus more on some other positive changes, but that irony makes it even more painful.

In March 2017 I was among the many lurkers who decided to register and become active Beanies. Since fan wall and what we are watching are mostly K-drama specific and I only earn a handful Beans a year, you can guess how (in)active I have been there. I would make up for it by lurking every day as if I were reading my daily newspaper. I wish I could have parted with it on my own terms.🙂

With that acknowledged, the positive changes I was going to mention today anyway:

From February onwards I am allowed to work more hours a week. This means I am adjusting well enough to work life, but I am not entirely there yet. I have some ideas to try and improve my weekly schedule, but most of them are outdoors without screentime. Better for my health, I guess?🙂

Fanwall is indeed like a daily newspaper where one can get a good drift of what's going on in the dramaworld. Your words really hit me hard - "I wish I could have parted with it on my own terms." IKR, it would have been so much better if we got a rationed amount say a limit of 100 posts and would have to delete a previous one if we wished to post more. 😞

It is great progress about your work life. I wish you all happiness for the year so you are able to enjoy both your personal and professional lives to the fullest. And yes, keep beaning on. 👍🏻🥰

I was thinking about the friends to lovers trope and I just thought I would never confess to a friend or want to be confessed to by a friend for exactly the reason there's angst in the trope: what if it ruins the friendship?

I would never be in this situation but just imagining having a truly genuine and healthy friendship; full of love, support, and trust and then risking it by getting into a romantic relationship?

And I know in the trope it's always "but what if it works? Isn't it worth the risk?" And I'm thinking no? Haha because what if it doesn't?

But I'm a very scared and cynical person haha

It is very scary. My husband and I were friends first and it took us a while to take the next step because we were both worried about ruining what we had. And we had all the same friends at the time, so we worried if it didn’t work out our whole group would be ruined.

But finally our feelings grew to the point that it seemed dishonest not to talk about them, and to at least give it a shot. And just like a kdrama, all our friends already knew we liked each other anyway! I know it doesn’t always work out like my story, but I’m so glad we took the risk.

4. Disney+’s THE MURKEY STREAM (Rowoon, Shin Ye-eun). Eps. ? MDL rating 15+. Airing: Sept. ?

5. Netflix’s HONG RANG (Lee Jae-wook, Jo Bo-ah). Eps. 12. MDL rating: ? Airing: ?

Note. These projects I consider have a decent chance of airing in 2025. There maybe other sageuks in production now that I am unaware of.
Please feel free to add, amend or correct.
Of course the best recent news in the sageuk front is the information coming out about an upcoming KBS epic sageuk: THE CHRONICLES OF THE SILLA-TANG WAR with Jang Hyuk and Yoo Joon-sang. I would be surprised if this drama becomes available this year but we can always hope.

tvN's THE TYRANT'S CHEF (Im Yoon Ah, Park Sung Hoon, Kang Han Na) S/S Eps: ?
Rumored: November 15

Coupang's THE GARDEN OF HARMONY (Kim Myung Soo) Eps: 16
Rumored for 2025 but it seems like a long shot

Thanks @zindigo for the additions. Re:
1. Taec’s drama DUKE. Because I had decided at the git go that it would be a pass for me that I failed to enter it on my list.
2. First I have heard of tvN’s THE TYRANT’S CHEF. No doubt this will be a hard pass for me. I like Director-nim (KNIGHT FLOWER, TREE WITH DEEP ROOTS) but from MDL:
“Adapted from the web novel "Surviving as Yeonsan-gun's Chef" (연산군의 셰프로 살아남기) written by Park Kook Jae (박국재).”
Over at THE QUEEN WHO CROWNS @kiara commented:
“Historically, Yeonsangeun was the worst king in Joseon and of any period in Korea.” Really, tvN greenlit a foodie drama about King Yeonsangeun. For me another reason to avoid tvN/TVING historical dramas. Sorry for the rant.
3. On a more pleasant note. Coupang’s THE GARDEN OF HARMONY. Also the first time hearing of this. I really like what I read of the synopsis at MDL:
https://mydramalist.com/758993-the-garden-of-harmony
I am assuming Kim Myun-soo is (L) and as lead would be perfect casting. In 2024 I watched KMS’s 2020 KBS drama SECRET ROYAL INSPECTOR and loved it. It was ine of my favorites of the year.

1. So funny! I almost mentioned that in my reply but forgot. I knew you'd react that way haha 😂

2. I was not aware of the history and have to say I'm shocked now at the choice too. Well, this drama may be doomed anyway as Park Sung Hoon may be stepping down because of some ridiculous "scandal" about an instagram post. I really hope his career isn't tanked.

3. Yes, L is rumored to be the lead. I'm looking forward to this one too! It seems fun and different (and 100% fusion 🙃)

Coming attractions. At least I have two upcoming sageuks to anticipate: JanHyuk in Silla and L back in Joseon. (I am probably one of about 5 beanies who enjoyed L’s performance last year in DARE lol).

Rumors abound about possible historical dramas and casting. Here are some on my list from last year. @zindigo you may be aware of some or all. I have no idea about the status of the following dramas that is why I didn’t list with the five dramas above. In the order I became aware:
1. SERENADE (Yeo Jin-goo)
2. HAESI’S SHINRU (Ahn Bo-hyun)
3. LITERALISM (Seo In-guk)
4. MILJU (Joo Won)
5. SECRET MEMOIRS OF THE SUSEONG PALACE (Jang Dong-yoon)
6. THE SCENT OF PLUM BLOSSOMS (Cho Yeo-jung)
7. GOD’s BEADS (Ahn Bo-hyun)
8. THE DEACON OF GOD.
(Note. The above each have a marker at MDL).

1

@marcusnyc20

Oh my gosh I totally forgot about GOD'S BEADS and it's one of my most anticipated dramas this year!! The rumored release date is September 13. I'm really looking forward to this one with its very different storyline.

I just read something the other day about DEACON OF GOD and I think it was mentioned that it would be a 2027 release! Maybe because it's going to be a big expense production-wise? But this too looks very different and exciting.

The other 5 are on my tracking list as well but I have no new information about any of them. They all seem like really good stories that I'd like to watch, so I hope they do get produced eventually.

Also, we both missed:

TVING's THE SCANDAL OF CHUN HWA (Go Ah Ra, Jang Ryul) W/T Eps: ?
Scheduled to air on February 6

1

@marcusnyc20
Oh wait, you didn't miss it. I did, lol. Sorry!

So after the sad news about the fanwall, I reread my posts and I don't really care if they disapear because I really used this space to post video about airing dramas like interviews, OST, promotion events, etc.

Otherwise, it was more hot reaction about a drama, sharing pictures of pretty dramas, comments about styling, casting, etc., talking briefly about a non KDrama, but no big analyze or anything of this kind. It was short except when it was December round-up.

The sad part is there is no real space on Dramabeans that will match what I was posting on my fanwall like just sharing a thought in my mind.

I wonder if Dramabeans will expand their content to compensate. Because lately, except When the Phone Rings, the recaps didn't bring a lof of comments. There are so many news, it's impossible to comment everything. The other posts are more episodic : discussing a theme, hidden treasure, caption a picture.

Fanwall was "freestyle". Everyone could use it as per their wish or preference. It did not necessarily have to be restricted to a particular topic. It definitely brought about the creative side in many Beanies.

I had to pause scanning my fanwall to save some content, because it was depressing. Fan wall was perfect for me as it helped me talk and chat in a way that worked for me.
I grew up with English not being my first language. Even though I use it extensively now, its not a language that I am proficient enough to write a lot or wax poetic or even express myself well. Gifs and pictures helped me in making me post things with fewer words and still express myself.
Now that being gone, I don't even know how it would change for me. yeah, I can come to recap and comment like before, but I only get excited in recaps for shows I really love. Otherwise, I put a comment and don't really engage.

No matter what changes they bring about, this will limit my time on DB.. and may be even slow down on kdrama watching (honestly, I have watched many shows only because of watching it as a group and ranting live in fan wall). Remove the fun factor, I expect my kdrama consumption to also reduce.

Personally, It is time for a change, I guess.

Usually, for me, it was a little thing like I was watching the Jdrama Ai no Nai Koibitotachi and the couple kinda replayed the E.T scene and I thought it would be fun to share it on the fanwall.

So it's nothing important neither interesting, but just fun. But I wouldn't do it on an official topic.

I think I will miss these little gems shared by Beanies.

I may not come here as often as before once the fanwall is gone, but I guess I'm still watching Kdramas as much as I am atm (which is not as much as an average watcher anyway), because it's my only TV entertainment. Reddit is another forum I often read, but I've never engaged in discussions there. DB sure is special and it's a pity that the fanwall is now gone.

Talking about the English language, I've learnt so much since I've been on DB.

It makes me feel extremely sad and alone thinking that someday Dramabeans might not be here. I can't express how lonely I feel when you I can't talk about the dramas I'm into or moments that live rent free in my head.

Even though I don't always get responses here, it's still nice that I can express my feelings and thoughts on a topic in a place people can find it even weeks, months, or years later.

I didn't use the fanwall that much so it doesn't hurt to lose it *that* much but the fact that it could be a foretelling of losing other things is what hurts.

The 2 main actors are real pros and are doing a good job with what they have, but the story and esp the directing are just not there. The office antics and forced cutesy-ness, as well as all the supporting actors, are just not working for me. It's too bad. But I finally started and am on ep 2 of My Love from the Star which is checking all the boxes :) so all is not lost for this weekend. The Finland boys are also still making me laugh.
