As a frequent user of the fanwall, I’m saddened by the news. It has been such a fun place for us beanies to hang out, especially when I’m a slower watcher and most of the time non-live-watcher, which means I don’t often have much to say on the main page. But I know that the main page comes first, so I’m still grateful that the main page is kept running.

And who knows, maybe DB admin team will work out a way to restore the fanwall in the future?

(I recall some very old Open Threads with several thousand comments. Was it at the time the fanwall didn’t exist and beanies needed a place to chat? 🧐🤔)

I felt sad that there will be no more fanwall in two months' time. I totally and completely missed @eazal for being her own annual roundup that means 2024 would be the final fanwall roundup. But I was still afraid that this website (Dramabeans) has soon to be shut down because of cost-cutting. How about the old (like me) and new Kdrama fans will react to the supposed-to-be Dramabeans shutdown/loss? Was some of the old Kdramas will now be a rare lost media? Waiting for the weecaps for the future, next, upcoming Kdramas? Are the previous Dramabeans recaps/weecaps will be completely vanished and disappeared? :(

But for the good news (including me), if Dramabeans will not shutdown, then every users (including me) will not only have to see what's upcoming K-drama-related posts (weecaps/ratings/drama chat/hangout/news) but also I want to make my own request. My own request for post-fanwall on Dramabeans will be the Dramabeans posts on non-Kdrama content (for example, the wax-poetic C-dramas, J-Dramas, Thai dramas, Filipino dramas, etc.) if the Dramabeans fanwall will shutdown in March. Let's see what happens next for the non-Kdramas on Dramabeans and my fingers still crossed.

Andwaeeeeeee. Bye2 Shin Sung Rok and LUCY band wall posts and the unknown ranking system...I've been 'Entertainer-in-training' for years. Can I upgrade before March25? 🫢

DB Fanwall (FW) is where I started my fan journey outside of soompi forum. I started with Life on Mars and Jung Kyung Ho. Got hooked with The Last Empress and Royal Hotness Shin Sung Rok. FW introduced me to Rabbit, where I joined group watches with fellow beanies. The first drama I grouped watched was TLE, that's also where SSR got his Royal Hotness nickname.

So many drama memories on the fanwall, so many beanie memories: Love February posts!!! FW will be missed.
Some dramas I recall spazzing about on the fanwall:
1) Shin Sung Rok drama highlights: Perfume, The Last Empress, Kairos. My name is Kairoskat since 2020 😅.
2) other dramas: On the verge of Insanity and Seoul Busters. Both underated.
Dramas I 'hate-watched' or 'semi-hate watched': When The Devil Calls Your Name (weird drama with lightsaber fights), Memories of Alhambra (*cough*evil game*cough* cc: @sicarius), Heirs ('Kim Tan is smart, because he's good looking'...what even is this script 🙃), King Eternal Monarch (the CGI and @leetennant shirt), Sisyphus (CGI 2.0, duct tape plane or coca cola guns anyone?!). So many gifs and funny comments from these dramas, too far to dig them out now especially with no search function on the FW 😅.

I haven't really been active on DB compared to years before. Now that FW will be gone soon, I'll probably be more active...need to spread SSR and LUCY band awareness hahaha.

All in all thank you for the memories. Sad to see FW go~

This year I decided to take a break from fan wall and haven’t visited the fan wall or posted anything.

As someone who was actively using it, this is a bit sad. But also, it’s been always at the back of my head with all the content we have been posting over years. I guess the time has come to say good bye.
I don’t even know if I need to save some of these or just let it go.

Hopefully this decision helps the DB staff to keep this site up and running for a little longer. And hopefully brings more people to the recap threads.

It was a nice place to share some contents about drama without theme imposed by Dramabeans and without forcing every Beanie to read it.

Open thread is kinda different, first it's on Friday and then I kinda forget about it and I didn't share the same kind of content.

I will miss the content of other Beanies! They were very entertaining and interesting!

I am reminded of Search WWW when the company decided to remove one feature too.
It is sad but we are sure too much consideration was put into this.

I will miss the fan wall so much. It's my favorite place to check in on beanie's unique reactions to shows. Although it wouldn't be the same without the pictures and gifs, is there a way to keep the fan wall but only allow links instead of embedded images?

Oh no 🥺 I'm sad! After being a lurker for a while, I officially joined the site in spring of '23, and the fanwall officially became my favorite place to be. I have enjoyed so many conversations with Beanies! I understand the DB decision, but I still feel the loss of community. How will I talk to you all, chingus? 😭 DB has become a special part of my drama experience by adding in the community element to what had been a solitary hobby. I hope the site will be around for a long while. I guess I'll need to hop onto the open threads in the future!

Without Fan Walls, we're pretty much back to the old pre-2017 site.

I'm sad to see this as I have just recently discovered the Fan Wall! I'm still trying to navigate through this site, and I'm never sure where to post or find things.

So, this leads me to the reason I came here today. I recently read a "thread" about dramas to WATCH IN THE WINTER. And now I can't find it!
I wanted to thank the Beanie writer for the suggestion of A PIECE OF YOUR MIND. This had been on my very long watch list for a long time, and I was thinking about it as a post WTPR watch due to Chae Soo Bin. I am so glad I started this after reading the review. I'm sad to see that it got such low ratings and that it was cut short. I loved it from the very first episode. I binged 6 episodes last night! It is so beautiful and thoughtful - not to mention Jung Hae In's amazing coat collection. I tend toward these types of dramas (Because This is My First Life, Just Between Lovers, The Trunk) and I am not disappointed in this drama at all.

So thank you, Beanie, wherever and whomever you are for this recommendation!!

Regardless, I support this decision and I recognize it couldn’t have been an easy one to make. Whatever keeps the site up and running in our current day and age - the modern Internet makes operating independent, fan websites so hard!

Dang, what a welcome I got today. Opening the Beanies section and read a post in the fan wall about losing the fan wall...

The lost memories is the most heartbreaking part for me. The fact that we won't even get to go back to them when we get nostalgic... Not only the posts but the conversations in it. And not only go back to my posts but other beanies' too.

From traditions like Love, February or the end year round up, to little moments like beanies who didn't join the recaps expressing their thoughts about the shows they currently like or not. Or just random conversations (beanies are curious beings). And some cute real life moments that beanies share too.

Even if I try to save those moments somewhere, I feel like they'll become just pictures in a folder. They'll stop being part of what we have here, as a shared memory.
So it's sad to say goodbye to all those moments.

But thank you DB for giving us that place in the first place. I really loved it.
(I'm saying my goodbyes already because with the way the time's running, march is the same as saying "the day after tomorrow").

I know every option has probably been weighed and considered carefully, but I still have to ask: I wonder if it would be possible to keep the fanwall if we stick to words only? No pics, no links, no gifs?

Question: Do our profiles remain the same, like the comments section of it where we can view older comments made by us? Considering one of the purpose of the profiles was to comment generally but also to post and those posts went on the fanwall.

I am your most commented Beanie and most of my content is on the fanwall. All my essays, shitposts, recaps, hundreds of fanwall posts, and tens of thousands of comments. It would be nice if you kept it even as an archive, since there are tens of thousands of conversations and resources that will be lost to time, and never be able to be seen again, at the very least. That's a lot of history about to be erased.

But if you take the fanwall, I will likely never, or very rarely, but probably never, come here again. I have already been pulling away from recaps for a long time, since I have been getting less and less out of both the recaps themselves and the discussion underneath them, but posting essays in a character limit of 3000 has never been fun, nor my preferred method.

Oh well. I guess I'll be spending the next 2 months grieving, trying to manually archive my wall, and figuring out where to shift it all to!

@missvictrix, did the DB decisionmakers consider the possibility to take down older fan wall posts and have newer posts expire -- say anything more than 12 months old? or even 3 months old? -- but leave the fanwall as a space for real-time comments that don't fit in any post. That should free up a lot of space on the servers, while still leaving Beanies a place to share.

I am relatively new to DB and also to fanwall posts, but I am sad. I've enjoyed the content people have put up and I'm glad I got to be part of a community rewatch at least once.

A few random thoughts
*I'd like it if db could occasionally allow guests/members to post on the site- like the year in review, or monthly theme posts, both of which have been discontinued.
*I'd be happy to join/moderate some other media- eg an email or online meetup group-for continued long posts about content if any of the the long-content fanwall people are interested.

Even though I've recently detached myself from the fan wall, for various reasons, I can't imagine the site without it?!!!
I also really love looking back at old posts, both other users' ones and my own history, so it'll be sad to lose that!!
I can save some things for sure, but we're talking about like 6/7 years worth of content 🥲 ...saaaad... :(((

Shocking news! T_T I was reading over my old posts the other day and appreciating old dramas all over again.

I know my Fan Wall is gif crazy, but I do love making and sharing gifs of particular scenes and adding to my drama enjoyment/reactions. My gifs are hosted outside of DB's servers, but I guess the loading of the images still are a burden... ;-;

I have enjoyed the offtopic, random Beanie conversations. And it feels more cozy on the Fan Wall than in the Open Thread.

It's my 10th anniversary on Dramabeans AND watching Dramas this year, in 5 days no less! I was going to do something for it, at very least share the screencap that started it all for me. Lmao. I was a lurker for a year and a half, and then the new site + fanwall was launched but still. Never mind then 🤣🤣🤣; no more fanwall anniversaries or spams!

Anyway, better get back to my 166 pages of fanwall to save. Lol.

Fan Wall has been the most fun to visit since its where we can post gifs, reactions and updates to the community. I am sad as everyone to see it go soon. 😭😭😭

Though I don't post there much anymore I will be sad to see it go. It was a good place to take the pulse of a drama. A few like Perfect Marriage Revenge I may of never tried if it wasn't for the excitement of Beanies.

Kidding aside, this is really sad news as we've had awesome memories there. I mean, Love, February? I understand why it had to be done though. Gosh, this is giving me flashbacks of when sj-world had to be taken down due to financial reasons as well. Years of discussions, artwork, media archives, and fanfics.. but that's life. Thank you so much, DB Staff! The fan wall had been a blast!

I just read the announcement and I'm saddened to learn the beloved Fan Wall will be gone. I so enjoyed reading all the comments from our dear Beanies. Whether we shared the same opinion or not about a drama or anything else, I've always found the Beanie comments fun and interesting.

Thanks to the entire DB Staff for doing what you do on a daily basis, to make this site possible. Also, thanks to the all the Beanies for always making this such an enjoyable place to visit! I'm going to miss the Beanies on the Wall!

I only joined Dramabeans just over a year ago and had been contemplating posting on my fanwall but never got round to it.

So I guess based on what veteran Beanies are commenting, Open Thread is going to get a lot more comments. This will be interesting.

I was just about to start a fanwall. It has not been easy to understand how to do that or what its purpose was. Perhaps I did not look into it enough.

How does this change how we connect with others?

We have lived a rich and fruitful life.

We have lived in a world without mobile phones. We have lived in a Dramabeans without the Fanwall and apparently we are going to do so again.

Thank you 🙏🏻🙇‍♀️ to each and every Beanie - past, present and future - who has kindly contributed to and made the Fanwall the hotspot it is and will continue to make the main site as happening and newsworthy as it has always been.

We have lived our best life on the DB Fanwall and have no regrets.

We have really enjoyed our time on the Fanwall. And now that it is coming to an end all we can feel is being greatful for an awesome time. After all a picture is worth a thousand words.

The Fanwall is full of our emotions and creativity and nuance. It is our fun zone, our chill hangout with friends with whom we can just kick back our heels with and shoot the breeze with but also have some surprisingly deep and philosophical and meaningful even life changing discussions.

It is perhaps difficult to express in words all that the Fanwall means to us. Just that is a rare and precious corner of the internet. 🫰🏻❤🥰 A unicorn in its own way.

I never used the Fan Wall. I thought I would. I put up a picture, but never got around to using it. I never got the hang of using it either. Perhaps, I just didn't take the time, but I found the Fan Wall confusing and slow. I didn't know how other Beanies knew when someone/something was posting on someone's fan wall (those community watches---I never knew where/when they happened). I didn't know how to get to someone's fan wall without finding one of their posts and clicking on the link which seemed. clunky and time consuming. I'm sure much of this is my own not taking the time to learn, but I just ended up never using it. So, it was wasted space for me. I'm thankful for DB and the space they give us to discuss. I'm looking forward to more discussions on the Open Thread. I'm sorry to those Beanies that used it. It is so awful to find your content gone. I never post reviews on places like Viki because of that---if they take down a show, so goes your review. It all seems so ephemeral.

I realize the decision has been made, so this is shouting into the wind, but words - no matter how many - don't take up a lot of server space, and links to images or gifs hosted elsewhere don't either. Uploaded images are what really take up real estate and cost money to host. So if you've been using the fanwall as a kind of Pinterest board over the years - well, the good news is Pinterest still exists.

After wiping it out, I wish DB could find the resources to recreate the fanwall without the ability to upload and with rolling deletion of posts after a certain (short) amount of time. But even that effort would take more money and time than the current owners seem willing to spend. Ad revenue generally is pitiful these days. If they're prioritizing clicks through from Google (which probably come from people searching for recaps and news) over the experience of site users, that makes financial sense in the short term but will drive those users away in the long term. Related to that experience: posts with lots of comments, including fanwall posts with a huge number of replies, slow down site loading and that slowness also diminishes the user experience.

I do expect this to kill dramabeans.

So sorry to hear this, but whatever helps the site stay afloat. Few Beanies have given good suggestions here, hope they will be considered.
The best and my most active time on DB was during the Covid lockdown when we did some fanwall themes for several months- Love February, Music March, 6 Words April.. and of course the Annual Roundups!
I hope we can continue to favourite shows and retain our Beanie levels.
I would also like to see more content covered through the posts on the site- like the Beanie written articles and reviewing the single drop dramas on OTT.

I can only express how much I loved posting and reading other beanies' posts all these years. It's been a K-blast through and through. OT will get popular again and help us stay connected. DB power 👊 and ❤️

I remember when in 2017 Fanwall was introduced I wasn't particularly happy, Dramabeans as a site then changed so much and suddenly everything looked so unfamiliar... and then I got used to it and found my way. 🙂
I'm not a regular user of Fanwall, but I liked the small (and more personal) discussions it allowed, the immediate reactions we could post while watching a show (perhaps a weekly hangout First Reactions could substitute this?)... and yes, some squealing over oppa (or wedding rings) together was nice as well. 😊
So... yes, I think I will miss the Fanwall a bit.

Practical question @missvictrix : Is it just the Fanwall which disappears and our account and Comments (My Shows etc) stay... or everything disappears?

I never thought this day would come. I’m a lurker, always has been and have mostly hang out on the fan wall whenever I visit DB. Then smile when I read familiar names and maybe an update here and there.

It even took me awhile to see this post and that means I’m mostly in the Fan wall.

I’m gonna miss the fond memories. Azzo and SNG, Love February, the gif battles, the gif stories, the Island Parties, the year end posts, the live comments on current dramas, beanies levelling up and tons more.

Why does this feel like DB is ending when in reality this is to keep DB afloat. Sigh. Oh what memories does.

I only posted three items to my Fan Wall in the entire time. They could have been posted elsewhere, and people could simply follow a link.

I noticed that Redfox has already hit upon a solution for this. Create a blog, post there - and now the links that you post will simply be to your own blog. Blogs can be created for free at Google's Blogger or Wordpress.com (or others).

IN other words: Make your own Fan Page - and let Google pay for the server space. Don't worry- they won't lose money.
