News bites: December 19, 2024

Jung Kyung-ho, Seol In-ah, Cha Hak-yeon

  • Winter is just getting started and MBC is already thinking about spring, lining up Labor Attorney Noh Mu-jin (roughly translated) to broadcast in May with Jung Kyung-ho (Crash Course in Romance) as our reluctant ghost-seer and title character. Also starring Seol In-ah (Twinkling Watermelon) and Cha Hak-yeon (Castaway Diva), the supernatural-comedy has filmmaker Im Soon-rye (The Point Men, Little Forest) and writers Kim Bo-tong (D.P.) and Yoo Seung-hee (A Year-End Medley) leading production. [MBC]

  • LG’s U+ Mobile TV is working on a psychological crime-thriller called Dark Legacy, with coroner Park Joo-hyun (Perfect Family) trying to hunt down dad and serial murderer Park Yong-woo (Tracer) before detective Kang Hoon (Dear Hyeri). Aiming to release in 2025, the novel adaptation will be directed by PD Lee Jung-hoon (Shh, Please Take of Him) with scripts penned by a team of four writers: Jo Han-young, Park Hyun-shin, Hong Yeon-yi, and Jin Se-hyuk. [JTBC]

  • New character posters have dropped for SBS’s Love Scout where CEO Han Ji-min (Behind Your Touch) and secretary Lee Jun-hyuk (Dongjae the Good or the Bastard) will be putting their heads and hearts together in the upcoming office romance. Written by Ji Eun with PD Ham Jun-ho (My Strange Hero, Payback) and PD Kim Jae-hong at the helm, the series is slated to premiere on January 3, following The Fiery Priest 2 on weekends. [SBS]
  • tvN’s The Queen Who Crowns has character posters for us as well, showcasing a moody Cha Joo-young (The Real Has Come) and Lee Hyun-wook (Song of the Bandits), in addition to his royal concubines, Lee Yi-dam (Daily Dose of Sunshine) and Lee Shi-ah (The Goryeo-Khitan War). Coming to our screens on January 6, the sageuk will be commanding the Monday-Tuesday slot after Parole Examiner Lee concludes its run. [10 Asia]

  • Also opening the new year, tvN’s When the Stars Gossip will soon be launching on January 4 and the sci-fi rom-com will reportedly feature a special guest appearance from Jo Jung-seok (Captivating the King). Although the details are being kept under wraps, it will hopefully mark a fun reunion with his Jealousy Incarnate co-star Gong Hyo-jin (When the Camellia Blooms) as well as writer Seo Sook-hyang. [Newsen]
  • KBS released the first script reading stills for Kick Kick Kick Kick, with Ji Jin-hee (Romance in the House), Lee Kyu-hyung (Uncle Samsik), Baek Ji-won (Parole Examiner Lee ), and Lee Min-jae (Hide) headlining the office-comedy. Following our fledgling content creators as they enter a new chapter in their has-been careers, the series will be premiering on February 5 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot. [10 Asia]

Keeping my fingers crossed for "Love Sout" to be good, the teasers, artwork and visual aesthetics look great, lets hope the writing, direction and acting are the same.

I will always have a soft spot for Lee Min-ho, Gong Hyo-jin, or any of the Hallyu megastars the 00s, so "When the Stars Gossip" is automatically on my watchlist

Okay. „Kick Kick Kick Kick“ and „office comedy“?!?! Sounds like a fun combination. 🤔😅🫣 Just hoping „Kick“ is not the replacement for „Lovely/Queen/Midnight“ in upcoming drama titles 2025. (Dare say they used all allowed mentions of it here already.)

1) I like these actors but not sure about the pairing. Does the story needs a difference of age? But I like the PD and writer.

4) The women look beautiful with these outfits.

5) Jo Jung-Suk's cameo was the best thing of The Legend of the Blue Sea. I hope it won't be the case for this drama. I'm happy to watch a reunion with Gong Hyo Jin.

I bursted into laughter right away when reading JJS’s cameo in The Legend of the Blue Sea. Pearl tears - only he can pull that one off so brilliantly!

2. Now the psychological crime-thriller bit is something which calls my name. Kang Hoon as a the ML. Yay!!

4. Looks amazing!! 👌🏻👏🏻

5. I don't care about the sci-fi, please give me the rom-com and make it double. 😊❤🥰

6. With all that kicking are they sure they ain't playing football. 🤔

1 - This has potential to be fun but I'm kind of seeing it start strong and fall apart by the end. Color me cynical after 2024.

3 - I'm looking forward to this but my expectations are definitely tempered and I will drop fast if needed. See previous point.

4 - Not likely to watch but the costumes are stunning. It looks to be a high quality production and I hope it does well!

5 - See point 2.

6 - This year was the first time I'd seen Ji Jin Hee in a drama (Romance in the House) and I enjoyed his acting. I'll definitely give this one a try. Plus I really like Baek Ji Won and Lee Min Jae.
