Things get spicy When the Phone Rings with Yoo Yeon-seok, Chae Soo-bin

New posters and a video teaser have lured us into the lair of MBC’s When the Phone Rings, where Yoo Yeon-seok (A Bloody Lucky Day) learns something new about Chae Soo-bin (The Fabulous). Although it isn’t what I initially expected from the genre, I suppose this is why they call this webnovel adaptation a romance-thriller.

In any case, here we are with our Blue House press secretary Baek Sa-eon (Yoo Yeon-seok) as we open the teaser on their wedding day. It’s now been three years since their arranged marriage, but Sa-eon continued to treat their relationship like a business. Wife Hong Hee-joo (Chae Soo-bin) is thus wary, believing that, “My husband, you see. It seems like he’d rather I be dead.”

It is very concerning when Hee-joo is suddenly kidnapped and when the blackmailer threatens Sa-eon, our callous hero isn’t intimidated and coldly informs them to call back when they have her corpse. But this is when things start to veer in a different direction as Sa-eon escapes a fiery explosion and rushes to save Hee-joo… cut to the bedroom?

Now seeing a side of Hee-joo that he’s never seen before, Sa-eon wonders, “It isn’t possible for there to be a Hong Hee-joo that I don’t know. Was I mistaken?” Hee-joo grabs his pillow with petty vengeance, declaring that Sa-eon doesn’t know anything. An amused Sa-eon then notices Hee-joo’s lingerie preferences and the teaser comes to a close as their bedroom antics take a spicy turn.

Directed by PD Park Sang-woo (The Forbidden Marriage) with writing by Kim Ji-woon (Melancholia), MBC’s When the Phone Rings will be premiering on November 22 in the weekend slot.

Ooohh... I like the dichotomy of his character, that was interesting. I expected this to be so much darker given its thriller genre, but I'm not going to say no to this sexy interlude between our couple. November, bring it on.
