News bites: October 22, 2024

Ma Dong-seok, Park Hyung-shik

  • LG’s Studio X+U has officially announced production for Twelve, with Ma Dong-seok (Police Unit 38, The Roundup: Punishment) leading our title’s 12 angel heroes while Park Hyung-shik (Doctor Slump) puts on horns as our demon big bad. The fantasy has filmmaker Kang Dae-kyu (Pawn, Harmony) attached to direct and is planning to release in 2025. [YTN]

  • MBC’s When the Phone Rings came out with their first poster, showcasing the romance-thriller’s secretive couple, Yoo Yeon-seok (A Bloody Lucky Day) and Chae Soo-bin (The Fabulous). Directed by PD Park Sang-woo (The Forbidden Marriage) with Kim Ji-woon writing, the series will be broadcasting on weekends starting November 22 next month. [MBC]

  • The air is also somber on JTBC’s first poster as we follow our heroine Im Ji-yeon (The Killing Vote) as she sets off on her journey from slave to nobility in The Tale of Lady Ok. The story begins on November 30 with Choo Young-woo (Oasis), Kim Jae-won (Hierarchy), and Yeonwoo (Dog Knows Everything) co-starring in the Joseon-era sageuk. [News1]
  • SBS released more character posters for the upcoming The Fiery Priest 2, introducing the upcoming season’s new faces: Sung Joon (Call It Love), Seo Hyun-woo (Seoul Busters), and BIBI (The Worst of Evil). Together with Kim Nam-gil (Song of the Bandits), Honey Lee (Knight Flower), and Kim Sung-kyun (Moving) as our returning heroes, the new second season premieres on November 8. [SBS]

  • Pondering the many questions surrounding marriage in the latest teaser for Channel A’s Marry YOU, the mission thus begins to have our country-bred Lee Yi-kyung take his vows and say “I do” with his perfect spouse. Coming to our screens on November 15, the comedy romance also stars Jo Soo-min (Penthouse 2), iKON’s Ju-ne (a.k.a. Gu Jun-hoe) (Twinkling Watermelon), and Ji Yi-soo (Sponsor). [Sports Donga]
  • Over on ENA, romance is bubbling between Kim Se-jung (Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch) and Lee Jong-won (Bad Memory Eraser) in the newest stills for Brewing Love. With PD Park Sun-ho (Business Proposal) and writer Lee Jung-shin leading production, the office rom-com will be launching on November 4, following Dear Hyeri in the Monday-Tuesday slot. [10 Asia]

Hyungsik is going into his villian era. His character apparently represents the crow so maybe no horns but wings. Looking forward to this and there’s also Treasure Island in 2025 as well.

Also, I’m really liking The Tale of Lady OK’s poster.

Busy busy filming time as it seems Twelve is starting soon and I don’t think Treasure Island has wrapped. Can’t wait for both!

I mean I’ll definitely watch BREWING LOVE (after missing out on LJW‘s last drama, albeit voluntarily), but I have the feeling heavy drinking scenes might be involved. Huh… 🤔
Those stills look like an adorable countryside setting to start with though!

Interesting that Park Hyung Sik is playing the baddie. Would definitely want to see him play one.

Not a total baddie, but he played Der Tod or death in the musical, Elisabeth, some years ago.

Its good he is expanding his repertoire. But I can only watch him in movies or dramas.

These all seem pretty exciting. There are so many names attached to Twelve, I wonder how they will balance it out. The rest of the year and a new year are looking good!!!

Seeing the whole page in italics, I must have my part LOL.

"Twelve", with the cast including Ma Dongseok, Park Hyungsik, Ji Changwook, Seo Inguk and Sung Dongil, is even a bigger deal than "Moving". I'm not sure if others apart from Ma Dongseok and PHS have confirmed their roles, but that's what is listed on MDL.

Lol, the page formatting)))

1 - literally groaned at yet another star-studded superhero show, but with Hyungsik as a villain? Let alone a freaking DEMON?! Sign me up! Pls don't be ISLAND 2.0

3 - wait, did FL's plot from CHUNO got a spinoff? At least I like YJY better as an actress, so maybe.

6 - omg, they didn't limit THAT filter to posters/trailers alone? At this point viewers are risking to get blind before leads get drunk (on love)...

They'd better keep his longer hair and style it properly! Plot is secondary to that #importantmatter

And the 'plot'....

1. I. Am. Seated. If all I had was a commitment from one of these actors I’d be ready. But Park Hyung-sik AND Ma Dong-seok? No other info needed. (But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see all the posters I’m sure will be released!)

2. I’m really intrigued by When the Phone Rings - and with a mystery I may even watch it live.

3. Very cool poster - loving the juxtaposition. I didn’t love IJY in The Killing Vote but I think that was more the writing for her character, and I’m excited to see Choo Young-woo again.

4. I guess I finally need to make time for the first season…

6. Will this be my next live-watch? Hoping for adorable things from this one.

#1: As if I care what the story is 😂 I am here to watch the horns, or in this case, the wings.
#3: Lady OK: This one calls my name. Interesting premise.
#4: Honey Lee. Nuff said.
#6: I like what I see. I hope they tone down the drinking though. It could surprise us yet.

I wish I could find out how When the Phone Rings ends - I want to watch it, but I don't want it to have a sad ending

1. Now is this what they call a multi bagger!! 🤣🤣🤣

2. Romance thriller!? Sorry but I haven't seen even a whiff of any romance, 😕 as yet.

3. Again, no whiff of a light, romance. These days I like my sageuks to be fusion ie light and fantastical. Till of course a right, proper, classic sageuk comes and sweeps me off my feet and makes me shed copious tears. 😭

4.  Oooh! Even after all these years Joon-i still makes my heart flutter. 💓🙃😀 Hope his role in this is better than his last drama with Kim Nam-gil.

5. One can bid goodbye to "who to marry" woes when you have such cute cupids. 😂

6. The excitement is really brewing. Cheers!! 🍻
