Another wonderful episode!!

I spent the whole scene with Da Rim and her family crying. 😭 Even my mom heard me and was like "it's not real. It's just a drama". But is it? These characters don't feel like just fictional people to me. I'm too invested in this story.

1. "Da Rim has beautiful eyes" 😭 I'm just so happy for her. The whole family reunion. Watching her grandparents a little older. Seeing her beautiful mom and aunt. Her oppa and unnie too. And seeing her cousin, SBOO and Bom for the first time. 🥺 And her doc! Congrats, Da Rim!!
The whole scene of her talking to that bug and reading the news' subtitles was wonderful too.

2. I need some translation of everything Crosswalk's dad said, because I didn't get it. I'm assuming he's the type of person who feels like hiding his real feelings behind jokes and stuff like that? Or he was for real when he was telling his son that he would be happy without him? I didn't understand a word he said.

Btw, I feel bad for Crosswalk. He's so desperate to get even crumbs of love from his dad, but that man won't give him anything. I don't know if the way he talks should be taken seriously or not, but either way he's hurting Crosswalk and I don't like that. It's really sad to see how insecure he feels in his own home.

I have a feeling he wouldn't care about the divorce if he knew that his dad wouldn't cut ties with him too. But he seems like he will be kicked out along with his mom at any minute. That's really sad.
I already can see him break down when he hears that his dad has another son. A bio son. And one good with money! Oh, no!

3. That forehead kiss... He should've tell her even if it was at the end, before running away. He can't do that and then let her think it's from SBOO.
It's wrong, and it could cause misunderstandings, and it's not even convenient for him to let her believe that. So why...?

I loved the kiss despite all that, tbh. And I loved how he screamed his encouragement till the end. I really like this guy.

4. SBOO has been working with this family for years and he doesn't get way Cha Rim doesn't want to date him even though she likes him? Like, dude? Her dongsaeng almost lost her eyesight forever because they're broke? Have you not seen how her mom lives? She needs to spell it for you?

Also, I'm not sure he sees uri Da Rim just a his dongsaeng. And I don't like that. I like the ships the way they are! Stop blocking Crosswalk!

5. Halmoni was rapping in that elevator. 😂 She should go to Show Me The Money. LOL I loved that scene.

6. We saw Moo Jin smile?? He looked so happy for his dongsaeng. And sis in law too. Awww. They're lovely. Have a happy life you two!!

IKR? I think that's the vibe but I couldn't feel too happy about it.

I think I would've like it more if Crosswalk stopped trying to trick his own dad to not abandon him or looked less desperate for approval.
I wonder if someone hurt this boy in the past, maybe his bio dad?

Crosswalk is not written as a top smart cool guy. The writer has designed his character to be somewhat different from the traditional MLs. He is clingy, loyal and honest about his feelings. He loves his parents differently - recognising but protective of his spoilt-brat mom on one hand and yearning for dad’s recognition on the other. You raised a good point about his upbringing. I wonder what his interaction with the loanshark king grandpa was like.
I won’t be surprised that by the end of the drama, he’d pursue his dream of film studies while the bio son taking up the father’s company.

If this was a regular 50 episodes drama I would expect dad realizing that his son feels a bigger distance from him than he would imagine.
And Crosswalk dealing with the root of his insecurities.
And in that process he would realize that his dad always saw him and loved him as his son.

That "freedom" from his fear of abandonment would let him say "no" to his dad for the first time. And feel more confident and comfortable fighting for his dreams.

But this show is short and unpredictable, so I don't really know how deep they'll go with this father-son story.

I agree that there's something about grandpa. The way Crosswalk cherish that lighter is no joke.
Now, grandpa told his daughter to not even trust her husband with her money. So, maybe he also left some very terrible advice to Crosswalk on how to deal with his own father? Or maybe he told him about his bio dad?

...I think my thoughts are getting out of hand. Too many theories from one heart-to-heart that was supposed to be nice.

1

He is a writer / film maker at heart, not a businessman. His Hyong (?) will hopefully take the business burden off his shoulders so he can pursue his true dream. I also hope the three men, Businessman Dad, Lighter Writer and SBO Oppa, will eventually form a nice bond together.

2

Actually, halmoni (actress Kim Young Ok) has been on a hip hip variety program back in 2016 where she rapped up a storm! She was sooo cute and soo good at it! The show is called The Tribe of Hip Hop.

She said she wanted to fall in love with a rich guy, it's not like she's trying to find a rich guy just because.

Plus, it was a joke. I think she just meant someone financially stable. Maybe like her aunt's ex. Not some random chaebol.

But yeah, I also think her heart isn't really open for other guys. Drinking is like THE social event in kdramaland, and she's always doing it in this guy's rooftop, so how is she going to meet other men?

In K-dramas it's all about the families. Her family is poor. With the exception of the stolen money. Her having some success is not enough.

Cha-rim has made a specific point to him that it is SBOO's apparent poverty that is his sole drawback in her eyes. Why does she say that? Not for his benefit or even information but to keep on convincing herself that she should not take things further even though she is deeply attracted to him and to no one else.

The irony of this is that he takes that very personally and it puts him off (an utterly understandable response). Yet he is emotionally attached despite that: Remember when he came to her workplace in the wee hours of the morning to rescue her sample? He is indeed very aware that Cha-rim likes him but his exact words to her at that time were that she cannot have him.

Ep 7 is such a delight! And so many standout scenes in this episodes:

The whole family watching nervously as Da-Rim’s eye cover is removed. The one-by-one reaction is so good. Everyone is doing a good job. And the older brother smiled for the first time (plus a wide grin in a later scene with his future wife in the police station!). Keeping a straight face for almost ten straight episodes is quite something - guess he has the gene from his dad.

Kim Hyun-jun is wonderful in this role, dorky with a bit of silliness. How he tried to check out Da-rim in the hospital and planted a kiss on her forehead is certainly the highlight of this episode. Not many actors of his age can convey tenderness so well. His sitting by the bedside, holding her hands, to can’t-help-but-kissing her on the forehead is ever so gentle, natural and tender.

And what a darling Da-rim is! Everything she does in this episode is enchanting from the curious joy of seeing/recognizing each family member, to talking to the little bug and walking on the road with her ice-cream. I’m a bit surprised though that she can’t recognise Gang-ju. I was under the impression that she hasn’t yet lost the eyesight during the one night stand. Anybody remembers the details?

We finally got to know the ‘father-and-son’ relationship better from their soju conversation - so frank and from the bottom of their hearts. It’s not quite as I expected that the father married for the money (but he clearly worked hard to get to where he is). The son yearns for the love and recognition from the stepdad but hoping he still loves his mom. Well, besides the money, certainly the dad was attracted to her for both the look and her one-of-its-kind personality.

Now that we are sure of TG being the bio son, I’d think the hostess-liar mom would appear at some point. But then how the relationship between DR’s mom and TG’s dad will play out is intriguing. At present, they dislike each other so much but I can’t see any major curve ball with only 27 episodes remaining.

Now, more than anything, grandparents who find the money accidentally will also be the ones disclosing accidentally about their new money. The bed is not a strong safe compared to the concrete safe which was dismantled so easily by the semi-professional?!

I think she doesn't recognize him because that one night stand happened a century ago. 😂 If she's like me, there's no way she can remember a face she saw once after a while. Also, she saw every part separately: eyes, nose, lips... So maybe that's why?

He didn't talk, and he didn't play with his lighter (the thing that made her recognize him the first time).

PS. The bed is not a strong safe, but it's definitely less suspicious/obvious.
If you go to someone's house to steal from them, would you check the safe or the grandparents' bed?

Unless it's someone from their family (like, the police officer Moo Rim). Someone who knows they got that bed randomly right at this moment when they started to spent a lot of money they don't have.

I think you already described so nicely all the touching scenes, @enriquequierecagar and @epyc2010 , I don't have much to add. So... I will just comment shortly on the comedy part 😁, because I'm still laughing a lot with the show and appreciate its humour - like Businessman Dad pushing Lighter Writer aside, because he was taking the arguments out of his mouth... or that family elevator scene 😆 ...or when it is making fun of makjang - instead of complicated reveals lasting many episodes, bam, e-mail announcing a son, bam, second e-mail with a photo. 😄

Also, sneaking the stolen money as wedding gift money?? Brilliant! 😄

The comedy in Iron Family is seriously gold. The father and son competing to scold the mom is brilliant - and the physical comedy of brushing the son down LOL.

That woman may be a liar or wtv, but she's HILARIOUS.
"Hi. I'm dying. You have a son btw".
"Hi. *insert massive pic of SBOO* Your son" LMAO

PS. I like the idea too, but it would be weird if there's like 150 envelopes with a bunch of money, when they only invited 100 people, and most of them are probably poor.
It's not like there's many college friends who would pay their debts by sending their girlfriends to the wedding. So what excuse are they going to use for so many mystery envelopes?
They should just fit what they can in one big envelope with mom's rich bestie's name in it or something. She's already using him as an excuse for one crime, so why not for another one?

Oh My God. I laughed out several times this episode 9. And majority comes from Chaebol Ji. His physical comedy is pure comedy. I am just looking at his bodily reaction everytime and it was so freaking relatable. Him shoving Crosswalk cause he was taking the arguments out of his mouth... honestly I was waiting for that scene. If only I know how to do GIFs I'll just gif all his reactions into stickers.

His conversation with Crosswalk though. I don't know if he was being open and hurtful at the same time or he was trying not to say how exactly it is that he feels. I'm not saying his words weren't true. I just feel like there is more, and he knew Crosswalk wanted him to say more. Yet he choose not to say more.

Yes to everything you said about dad. I have no idea what's going on in his head or what his real feelings and intentions are.

He seems to like his family, but how much? Does he not see Crosswalk as his son? Why doesn't he give him a little of comfort? Why does he keep talking about how he married mom for money? Does he really feel like they're in different levels? Why does he try to keep a distance?

I have so many questions.

Episode 8
Sometimes I wish we had a full recap (*cough* @unit *cough* 😉) because the episodes often feel packed with information and meaningful moments - those were the loan sharks sitting at the barber, right? And Aunt indeed just wanted the best for her son. 😪

Most hilarious moment:
Kim Junghyun bringing congratulatory plant and his exchange with Darim. 😂

Cutest moment:
Darim sneaking again in bed to sleep with Halmoni and Haraboji.

Most dramatic arc:
Business Bio Dad and Bio Son finding out they are Bio. The tension I didn’t know I needed! So much chemistry! 😊

EP 10

1. First of all, ahjussi, SBOO is minding his business and living his life; you could've e-mailed or texted those words to his bio mom directly. He literally knows NOTHING about you two. It's almost as if you just wanted to get his attention? Is that it?

I really can't understand this man.

2. Uri auntie. 😭 She almost made me cry. I wonder if her kid really wants to be a doctor, or if he only said that because he thought that's what she wanted to hear.

Anyway, I feel so bad for her. I don't know how she's going to get her little boy back, but I hope the kid doesn't think his mom wanted to get rid of him. I hope he knows how much she loves him.
And I hope the dad treats him right on the meantime. It seemed like he did want to get rid of the kid, tho. Yikes.

3. Cha Rim spelled and draw things for Crosswalk, then haraboji, mom and literally EVERYONE but this guy doesn't get it, no, he doesn't care. 😂 As long as he's okay with it, this guy couldn't care less about how others feel. I guess he got that from his parents. Neither of them seem to react to other people's feelings. Do they even listen when people talk to them? I don't think so.

I hope he doesn't ruin things for Da Rim, tho? I thought he was going to ask them to let her use the elevator. What's his plan now?

4. I LOVED how confident and happy Da Rim was while looking herself in the mirror. Yes, you're beautiful! I love how comfortable with herself she is. And I love how aware and sure she is of her feelings too.

I just love watching her happy. That scene with haraboji and halmoni was adorable too. The scene at the hospital with Tae Ung was cute too.
I hope the misunderstanding doesn't last long, tho. She needs to know Crosswalk is the one who kissed her ASAP.

5. What's with Mu Rim and his MIL?
Both of them were way out of line in that scene.
He should've told his fiance that she was looking beautiful (because she damn was), and mom shouldn't have talked about money and all that.

If he wanted her to try another style he could've just said that later. And if it really was about money, he probably should've talked to her about that since the beginning. And mom... Why would she bring that up when no one mentioned money at that time?
And why did she have to say it like that as if trying to step on his pride?

That scene was awful to watch. I wouldn't want to work at that place in that moment. And the bride deserves sooooo much better than that behavior from those two. But again, why were both of them there?
If something I learned from too much Discovery Home and Health, is that you take your mom OR your fiance to try on dresses, not both. 😂
Okay, that's a joke, but Idk, in this case I think she should've done that. Their relationship doesn't seem to be improving.

6. Crosswalk's mom is so real for that. I also trick my oppa to take pics with him, so he looks ugly in most of them.

It was sad and sweet to see...

Uhmm, I don't know. His future wife seems okay with him and she even said she loves him because of his pride. Her mom is the one that has a problem with him.

This is the wedding and we don't know how much is mom paying for it, and all that, but I really hope she's acting like this just because of the wedding. I hope she doesn't try to make their financial decisions for them in the future. Her daughter doesn't even seem to agree/side with her, so it's just weird. She can give her daughter advice and that's it, she can't keep making decisions for her.

1

This is interesting, because I was somehow getting everyone in that wedding dress scene... I think Murim just really felt uncomfortable about the dress and was clumsy about that, Mom wanted her daughter to be happy and Fiancée didn't care much about the dress and wanted to have a happy moment with Murim.

Totally agree with your conclusion, @enriquequierecagar , that they shouldn't go all together (and just choose one of the pairings). 🙂

So did I. I think that with her mom this may be one of those living vicariously things- she was a single mother and wants her daughter to have what she never got to have- and that beautiful wedding gown would be right there at the top of her list. This is really meaningful to the mom.
Which is why Mu-rim should not have been there at all. It would have been better to wait until the wedding day and let him be bowled over by his stunning bride. That is when it would have become meaningful to him.

Isn’t if funny that we are dreading the short run of this drama?! Just shows what a great drama it is. Yes, please start the aunt’s arc with Bom’s dad asap. She’s less annoying after these two episodes - additional marks for her self-awareness.

2

This may be the first weekender ever where we are saying OMG- there are only twenty-six episodes left! As I see it the money is being doled out sequentially- First Da-rim's eyes, then Mu-rim's wedding, and now we have a coming need for a good lawyer for Aunt PLUS setting aside a fund for their grandson's college and medical school.

3

I know that her ex will renege because that is what his girlfriend will demand. I have seen this scenario in real life many times. To say that it will not happen is right up there with saying that the sun will not rise.

• The random workout scene with SBOO and Lighter Writer made me remember personal trainer Hyo-shim from Live Your Own Life.

• Da-rim's sight is back! Yay! The hospital scene with the whole family was really touching 🥹🥹 I didn't think Mu-rim oppa could look so happy. We need more scenes of him smiling please. *And more scenes of him actually being in love with his fiancée. For now, it looks like she likes him a whole lot more than he likes her.

•Laundry Mom was smart to get that promissory note from the chairman. It will save her a lot of explanation as to where the money came from. *The congratulatory money idea for Mu-rim isn't a bad idea, but isn't it counterproductive if they loudly announce to their invitees that they don't need to bring money? I get the idea, but one of those invitees is bound to spill, and Mu-rim is quick to pick up on things like that.

•Lighter Writer is part-adorably, part-annoyingly too absorbed in his own world.

Housekeeper Ahjumma: You caused a lot of problems for the laundromat.
Lighter Writer: Why hasn't Da-rim been discharged yet?

Da-rim: Please, leave.
Lighter Writer: Why don't we see a romantic movie together?

I can't help but love Lighter Writer, and KJH is killing it in the physical comedy realm. Him tripping over his own feet on the way out of the hospital--adorable and hilarious! And then how he fell when Dad pushed him after that whole hysterical scene where he and Dad were yelling at Shopping Mom--so goofy but genuinely funny and charming at the same time.

I wish Da-rim wasn't so smitten with Tae-woong, and not sure how the writers are going to have her believably transition from what is clearly a longstanding and deep crush. And I'm not sure what's up with Tae-woong's feelings for her. He says he only sees her as a sister, but he's also very protective and possessive in a way that seems unsibling-y.

Agreed about Cop Oppa's seeming indifference to his own fiancee, who is just lovely. It'd be nice to see more warmth between them since the other romances on this show are going to be quite slow to build.

Our Chairman’s character was finally fleshed out in these two episodes. First things first: Let us not forget that this is not a second or third generation Chaebol. He is literally the first generation and there might not have been a true second one except (Shazam!) it turns out he does have a son- our 2 ML Stocks and Building Owner Oppa – who has genetically inherited his wealth producing talents. Yet this is not treated as good news at all by either father or son- our episode 10 ended on an exceptionally bitter note as he proceeds to throw the DNA test results down in front our Oppa- and informs him that this changes nothing. There would be no point to this except the emotional one of raging against what happened to him. We now understand a great deal about our Chairman including the fact that he probably was driven to his high achievements on the power of his emotional trauma- just as his son has amassed some wealth as a response to his abandonment. Both are high achievers motivated by their past.

It was a revealing moment when our FL asked him if there was another woman that he desired and he answered yes- before attempting to cover that up with some nonsense about ‘all the women in the world except Da-rim’. The woman he really desires is Cha-rim, who wants him even more but, as we know, breaking the wall that stands between them will not be easy.

Which brings us to two other young men: Our FL’s Oppa who is so worried about money that he cannot even enjoy the sight of his bride in her wedding gown- despite the fact that was the most beautiful bride one has ever seen. Being poor for so long has scarred him.

Our FL’s Aunt has divorced and now we see why she gave up alimony so that her ex would take her son: It was not because she did not want him but because she wants her son to achieve his dream of becoming a doctor. Unlike most kids saying that at his age this is not something her son ‘wants’ to do because he has been told he wants it- his mom would not have made that sacrifice if his dream was not a real one. However, her total scumbag of a ex will not be able to keep his promise once his girlfriend puts her foot down. I see her parents choosing to find a third reason to dip into their stash to get funds for a lawyer. Possibly something could be set aside of medical school? As for a future for our Aunt? I’ll bet Nam Bom would love to have a mom.
