Disney+ previews K-drama content for 2024-2025

Looking ahead to the last quarter of 2024 and beyond, Disney+ unveiled a new video announcement, taking us on a speedy guided tour through their upcoming K-drama lineup. It’s been almost three years since Disney entered the K-drama scene and they’ve certainly been courting a mass of star-studded talents to continue gracing our screens in the seasons to come.

Drama: Gangnam B-Side (previously Bulk)
Release date: 2024
Need to know: Following Jo Woo-jin, Ji Chang-wook, and Ha Yoon-kyung into the underbelly of Gangnam, the crime series will be premiering first at the Busan International Film Festival in October before its wider release later this year.

Drama: Light Shop
Release date: 2024
Need to know: Joo Ji-hoon and Park Bo-young star in an ensemble cast, with our title’s light shop becoming the crossroads between the mortal and spirit realms. Production for the fantasy-horror is helmed by actor Kim Hee-won making his drama director debut, with scripts by the original webtoonist and Moving’s Kangfull.

Drama: Unmasked (previously Trigger)
Release date: 2025
Need to know: Centered around a mystery-documentary show, the office-thriller has a dogged Kim Hye-soo leading our truth-hunting team, working with Jung Sung-il and Joo Jong-hyuk to bring justice against baddies through their public broadcast.

Drama: Hyper Knife
Release date: 2025
Need to know: Pitting ~genius~ against ~genius~ in a teacher-student relationship that hits the fan, the suspense has Park Eun-bin facing off with Sol Kyung-gu. The medical series also stars bodyguard Yoon Chan-young and fellow doctor Park Byung-eun.

Drama: Knock Off
Release date: 2025
Need to know: Kim Soo-hyun brings us to the 1990s in this period black comedy as he journeys to become the king of fake designer sales. But trouble is afoot when his ex-girlfriend and cop Jo Boa begins a crackdown on the counterfeit market.

Drama: Nine Puzzles
Release date: 2025
Need to know: The mystery-thriller has profiler Kim Da-mi as the sole witness to an old unresolved case and cop Sohn Seok-gu still suspects that she’s culprit. But the situation becomes muddier with the sudden appearance of our title’s mysterious puzzle pieces and a re-surfacing serial murder.

Drama: Low Life
Release date: 2025
Need to know: Inspired by the real-life treasure ship discovery on Korea’s southwest coast in 1975, the webtoon adaptation and crime series is headlined by Ryu Seung-ryong, Yang Se-jong, and Im Soo-jung among other talents in the larger cast.

Although not featured in the teaser, preparations are also underway for the following to release in 2025:

  • Tempest, a spy romance starring Kang Dong-won and Jeon Ji-hyun
  • Made in Korea, a 1970s period crime series starring Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung

Lastly, on top of Disney+’s original programming, the platform will be streaming the following dramas for international audiences this fall (availability may differ by region):

  • SBS’s The Judge from Hell on September 21, starring Park Shin-hye and Kim Jae-young

Disney+ continue to shine with all these dramas, while Netflix continue to deteriorate.

1000% agreed. What I don't understand is why Netflix has become complacent with churning out mediocre productions. Isn't it bad ROI? Or did Squid Game make them enough money to not care?

I disagree. All of the Disney+ k-dramas have been / appear to continue to be quickly-produced badly-written cash grabs. Season 2 of Squid Game is worth 10 of these shows.

(Not to mention that Disney's domestic streaming content has been supremely inferior so far.)

Light Shop: given the title, can we at least hope the lights will be on so we can see stuff? (I'm still grumpy about Queen Boo). With Park Bo-young and Kangfull, I'm look forward to, you know, actually seeing it.

Hyper Knife: Extraordinary Surgeon Park Eun-bin?

For the amount of money all these A-list actors must be (or ought to be??) getting paid, you should hope it'll all be visible. Each one of those posters looks more expensive than the next. 💸

I'm looking forward to:

1. LIGHT SHOP - Supernatural Horror, Joo Ji-Hoon, and Park Bo-Young sound right up my street. And if they can deliver the same way A SHOP FOR KILLERS delivered (tight episodes with very little filler and a brisk plot, excellent acting everything we can expect from a supernatural drama etc), then I'm in.

2. LOW LIFE - I'm willing to give this a shot.

Also - Ji Chang-Wook really seems to be leaning into the gangster genre for some reason.

I was thinking the same thing with Ji Chang-Wook.

HYPER KNIFE - Psychopath Park Eun-bin and Sol Kyung-gu.

LOW LIFE - Ryu Seung-ryong and Yang Se-jong. I haven't seen Yang Se-jong since "My Country." I hope Wookie doesn't regret turning it down.

Disney+ got all the big names but it doesn't mean good dramas... I was very excited for Blood Free and at the end, it was super disapointing.

Blood Free, Tyrant and Red Swan were disappointing for me too. Hopefully these new dramas are better.

The ending was indeed terrible. Joo Ji Hoon as a bodyguard was its only redeeming factor. 😅

I enjoyed it when it was about meat.

I think it lost its interest when it became about making super humans.

yes I am curious, like based on what. same channel has shown Charmed, Angel and X files so maybe they like dark fantasies? it´s like their style I guess?

I think it could be the international star power of Song Ji-Hyo (popular from Running Man); it was her last drama. It was shown on TVING streaming platform owned by CJ ENM, Naver and JTBC, who are probably trying to license more of their drama libraries to offset the current local entertainment downturn.

Honestly all of these seem like they could be great, but I think I’m most excited for Light Shop. I’m such a sucker for a bridge between mortal and spirit realms! Good cast and writer too.

Actually, I would like, that in addition to so many new productions, streaming channels would also recover the 'old' kdramas
There are so many titles, even on VikiRakuten, as well as on Netflix, Prime and Disney, that here in Italy are not available
Every time I read your comments, especially when you mention your favorite Kdramas, I immediately go to check and most of the time the fateful message appears: "this content is not available in your region"

There are reasonably-priced VPN services that would allow you to access some of these shows. Might be worth looking into.

I’m tempering my expectations for now. So many beloved stars, so many promising premises…but how many times have we been burned before?

I almost never read News Posts that start “Disney+…….” but I figured I better check this one to see what dramas I will have to unfortunately ignore.
In an alternate universe where DramaFever was still with us I would have liked to have a chance to watch:
KNOCK OFF.
NINE PUZZLES
LOW LIFE. (My last Yang Se-jong drama was in 2019: JTBC’s stabby MY COUNTRY: THE NEW AGE (Netflix)). Looks like I will have to wait somewhat longer for my next YSJ drama.)

Those large computer monitors in the KNOCK OFF pic with Kim Hyun-soo bring back memories. Matter of fact when my office entered the computer age I swear the monitors were bigger than the ones in the pic. My buddy at work burned out his first mouse playing DOOM (totally against the office rules).
Our monitors also acted as televisions and we all watched the 8 month O.J. Simpson trial live in 1995. It was a wonder any work got done (but it did, it had to lol).

I've missed Kim Hye Soo so much, I'm really looking forward to her drama, I hope it's a good one because the premise is appealing to me. Park Eun Bin's as well, it looks like a more somber role for her, I'm excited!

I love Kim Da-Mi...but I noticed that in most shows, they dress her really fugly and give her terrible hair cuts.

I love her too. Her hair in that photo make her look so young. And she looks better with longer hair imho
