Kim Jung-hyun reunites with Geum Sae-rok’s Iron Family

Catching up with promos for KBS’s upcoming weekender Iron Family, the first teaser along with a slew of stills have been trickling in, promising us both rom-com and black comedy shenanigans with our leads: Kim Jung-hyun (Kokdu: Season of Deity) and Geum Sae-rok (Soundtrack #2). In a premise that sounds a little quirkier than our usual weekender fare, we’ll be following our title’s dry cleaners household as they somehow end up ironing money instead of clothes.

But before we get there, we meet our hapless hero Seo Kang-joon (Kim Jung-hyun), a director at Ji-seung Group. Although he tries his hardest to make his stepdad and CEO Shin Hyun-joon (Moorim School) proud, things never seem to work out in Kang-joon’s favor and the staff often avoid him due to his up-and-down personality.

The trailer is very much a tease, only revealing the happenstance of Kang-joon’s reunion with Lee Da-rim (Geum Sae-rok) eight years after their college days. A lot has changed for the dry cleaners’ youngest daughter Da-rim, who has been struggling with an illness that affects her sight. Crossing paths at the intersection, our pair almost miss each other when recognition hits in the end. The teaser then closes on Kang-joon’s gentle voiceover, asking Da-rim, “Is it hope? Is that what I am to you?”

Filling out the rest of our drama’s world, the new stills offer a peek at the supporting characters, including the orphaned part-timer Choi Tae-joon (The Midnight Studio) who gets taken in under the wing of our dry cleaner family. We also have Da-rim’s older sister Yang Hye-ji (Bad Memory Eraser), who works as a designer at Ji-seung Group.

The head of our central family is the happily married granny Kim Young-ok (The Pork Cutlets) and gramps Park In-hwan (One Day Of). As an affectionately bickering duo, the latter being younger still calls his wife Noona, even after all these years together. The two are also always sorry and grateful to daughter-in-law Park Ji-young (Love Next Door), who assumed responsibility for their dry cleaners shop in her late husband’s stead – despite becoming widowed while still pregnant with Da-rim.

The weekender’s story unfolds on September 28, with production for KBS’s Iron Family led by PD Sung Joon-hae (Bravo My Life) and PD Seo Yong-soo, along with scripts penned by Seo Sook-hyang (Greasy Melo, Jealousy Incarnate).
