Byun Yo-han searches for his missing memory in Black Out
by lovepark
MBC’s upcoming mystery thriller Black Out released a new teaser, starring Byun Yo-han (Uncle Samsik) as Go Jung-woo, a man convicted of a crime of which he cannot recall. Even after spending a prison sentence for murder, Jung-woo still does not know the truth of that night or what he did.
The teaser shows two high school girls — the victims in this twisted case — and memories of their laughter mingle with scenes of them in fear. As Jung-woo gets hit by fellow inmates, their actions remind him of his own.
Fragmented snippets of Jung-woo slapping his classmate and covering something in a trunk suggest he did, in fact, kill his friends. However, Jung-woo does not remember what happened, and this blank in his timeline leaves him confused about his own innocence. Is this the whole truth, or did he forget something important?
Once released, Jung-woo sets out on a mission to recover what he lost. He returns to the crime scene in hopes of finding pieces of his missing memory. Amidst the garbage and forgotten items, Jung-woo discovers something: a student name tag.
As he checks the name, his expression wavers, and Jung-woo realizes that he did not do it. He professes his innocence, and all those years of not knowing erupt into a strangled scream. It seems something finally jogged his memory, but will it be enough to convince the rest of the world?
Also starring in the upcoming show is Go Joon (Cheat on Me If You Can) as Detective Noh Sang-cheol, Go Bo-kyul (The Heavenly Idol) as Jung-woo’s old classmate Choi Na-kyeom, and Kim Bora (Like Flowers in Sand) as medical student Ha Seol.
Adapted from the German novel Snow White Must Die, the fourteen-episode drama is directed by filmmaker Byun Young-joo (Helpless) and written by Seo Joo-yeon (Rescue Me 2). MBC’s Black Out is slated to premiere August 16 in the Friday-Saturday slot.

I was sort of hoping they wouldn't reveal if he was actually the killer in the promos, but maybe it's complicated and/or a misdirect. Regardless, this still seems like a good time, so I hope it's available!

Gotta read the German novel ASAP. Actually, is there a German TV adaptation? Euro noir dramas can be so good!

👀 Umm, yes there is a movie adaptation according to IMDB (“Schneewittchen muss sterben”, 2013). Since I haven’t watched it, I cannot recommend it though 😉
Let’s hope the drama does well. The topic sounds heavy indeed!

Byun Yo-han, to me, is the best or among the best actors of his generation. He’s pivoted to movies which I could understand as great dramas are hard to come by whereas a great movie director is a better guarantee. It’s great to see him receiving awards or nominations continuously. I’m finishing Uncle Samsik right now and it’s a joy to watch him act with the great Song Kang-ho in equal footing.
Will certainly check in this drama.

I agree! He is the best and most likely to succeed in Chungmuro. He reminds me of Hwang Jung Min. Despite his talent, it took a long time for Hwang Jung Min's movie career to become stable.
I miss Yoo Ah In. He had a successful movie career at a young age in Chungmuro.

Sad indeed. I hope he'll return someday.
I've been rooting for Park Jeong-min longer, so I'd say he has a bit of an edge over Byun Yo-han.

PJM is well established now as an accomplished actor. He’s a chameleon excelling in a variety of roles without resorting to look - an advantage in the long term as a character actor.

Park Jeong-min is a gem! He is my favorite in his age group. He is active but not overexposed.
