- On the heels of his recent role in the Japanese film Grande Maison Paris, Taecyeon (Heartbeat) confirmed casting for the new Netflix Japanese drama Soul Mate, starring opposite Isomura Hayato (Extremely Inappropriate). In a heartfelt story about love and life, we’ll be following our pair’s relationship over ten years, set against the backdrop of Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo. Aiming to release in 2025, both writing and directing will be helmed by Hashizume Shunki (More Than Words). [JTBC]
- Fellow 2PM member Chansung (Bittersweet Hell) has reportedly lined up his next acting project as well, joining Rain (Ghost Doctor) in the baddies camp for Netflix’s Bloodhounds 2. With Woo Do-hwan (Joseon Attorney) and Lee Sang-yi (My Demon) reprising their roles as our boxing buddy heroes, production for the crime-thriller remains in the hands of filmmaker Kim Joo-hwan (My Heart Puppy), in both writing and directing. - Over on SBS’s upcoming Good Partner, Jang Nara (My Happy Ending) and Nam Ji-hyun (High Cookie) command our screens in the newest poster, teaching us how it’s done when it comes to divorce law. With Kim Joon-han (Anna) and Pyo Ji-hoon (Mouse) rounding out the attorney foursome, the legal series will be broadcasting on July 12 in the weekend slot. [Sports Donga]
- Choi Sung-eun (The Sound of Magic) is reviewing an offer to star in a new fantasy romance and webtoon adaptation called Gyun-woo and Fairy (roughly translated). With Choi up to play a teenage shaman, she’ll be pushed to save her crush from his doomed fate when she learns that his death is in the near future. Planning for a 12-episode run, production has PD Kim Yong-wan (If You Wish Upon Me) attached to direct. [Xports News]
- Casting news continues for MBC’s Undercover High School (working title) as well, with Kim Shin-rok (Sweet Home 2) reported to be playing the chairwoman of the high school board. Headlined by Seo Kang-joon (Grid) and Jin Ki-joo (Uncle Samsik), the crime-action and rom-com is expected to air in 2025, with PD Choi Jung-in (Knight Flower) at the helm and writing by Im Young-bin (Bad Prosecutor). - More promos have come out on LG’s U+ Mobile TV for No Way Out: The Roulette, delivering an eggy welcome to Yoo Jae-myung (Uncle Samsik) in the new teaser. Premiering next month on July 31, the mystery-thriller also stars Jo Jin-woong (The Good Bad Mother), Yeom Jung-ah (Cleaning Up), and Kim Mu-yeol (Sweet Home 2), in addition to Lee Kwang-soo (The Killer’s Shopping List), Kim Sung-chul (Death’s Game), and Taiwanese actor Greg Hsu (Someday or One Day). Bloodhounds 2 with Chansung probably playing Mr. Punchable Face Villain again? I'll just imagine he's a boxer all the same.
But this all reminds me... @tccolb or anyone, is there any news on Mr. Plankton out there? I'm looking forward to seeing Woo Do-hwan fully-clothed, even, in a drama...and the cast is simply amazing.

@marcusnyc20: Exactly! The idea was just there! It would’ve been a lot of fun to see the resurrected club and hear the sublime voice of Park Kanghyun but probably would have been much more work for the production to organise.

I'm pretty much convinced that they gave Taecyeon another script or maybe just the first few episodes of Heartbeat otherwise there's no way he would describe it as a romantic comedy. He actually said that he wanted to do something light after Vincenzo and Blind and that his heart felt lighter when he read the script for Heartbeat. How is that even possible if he had actually read the entire script, right down till the last minute!? I still can't believe it! 😢
Good on him that he can speak Japanese. 👍👌👏👏👏
But then again J-dramas are not exactly known for their happy endings!! 🙈🙃😱🤷♀️

They probably rewrote HEARTBEAT's script on the go. They always do.
If anything, Japanese series has higher chances to give HE to BL couple...

Well, it depends on the genre/type of story. Japanese romcoms and slice of life have just as many HEs as kdramas usually do.
it's the terminal illness movies you gotta watch out for :)

In my HEARTBEAT rewrite besides having a happy ending I would have ditched the idea of a guest house and resurrected the place as a jazz club with Do-shik (Park Kang-hyun) nightly belting out tunes having given up on being a real estate developer with the vampire boys back being bartender and waiter etc.

1 - ah, so it's a Japanese drama after all... I assume it's gonna be 2 languages show - or is Taec's Japanese THAT good? I'm afraid this aspect of my 2pm knowledge is a bit lacking))) Bold of them coughing up money for Berlin filming in today's economy tho.
3 - not to be mean, but this poster just reminded me how super tiny both JNR and NJH are... Good for the show to pair them up - no one's neck will be hurt this time!
4 - not just "save your crush" plot, but also "fairy" in the title AGAIN? Dear kdramas, it's time to hajima!

The BLOODHOUNDS SEASON 2 casting keeps getting better and better. I hope the story picks up right where it left off.
Netflix’s BLOODHOUNDS (2023) (8 episodes) (set early days in the coronavirus pandemic (2020)) was the best drama I have seen to accurately portray the devastation the pandemic did to every day activities for so many. Seeing Seoul as a ghost town brought back memories of NYC where I lived from 2013-2021.
A memory: I have a dear friend who lived in Manhattan who would invite me over from Queens (where I lived) for lunch and dinner since everything was closed. In April 2020 (when it would still get dark early) I told her, “Angela, I have to leave by 7 pm to catch my bus back to Queens. Its creepy out there. There is no one out on the streets.”
BLOODHOUNDS really showed how it was.
